30 Days of Halloween
What are some scary movies that you all can recommend?
I want to watch one scary movie, for each night in October.
Not really a fan of gore, like Hostel. Nor am I a fan of movies like Exorcist or The Omen. Those are just not my thing.
I just like to be surprised, creeped out, and want to hide under the covers while eating popcorn.
Fun scary. Not evil scary. Halloween, Friday the 13th, My Soul to Take, Sleepy Hollow, Fright Night, Lost Boys, etc.

Blair Witch has stunt casting. 3rd incarnation. Forgot to have Asian monster. Bad Benniton ad.
The original is a masterpiece.

Gargoyles (1972), and Devil Dog: Hound of Hell (1978). Not great movies, but they are a lot of fun.

Night of the Living Dead (1968).
The best of the genre, and the original.

"You're Next." A home invasion where not everyone's a victim waiting to be slaughtered.

Honestly, OP, if you want an update, HEREDITARY is the best horror flick of 2018 so far. I also like A QUIET PLACE and a Sundance flick called SUMMER OF '84.
Last year it was GET OUT, but I loved the alien movie LIFE. THE BOY was also surprisingly good.

Wow, R8 through R18 is totally CUNTASTIC!
Good thing we have a hall monitor here, or this place would be complete chaos.

The Boy really was WAY better than it had any right to be. I really enjoyed that one. I truly believe that, had it been made in the 70's or 80's, horror fans would be drooling all over it. It felt like a throwback done right and not in an obtrusive way with fake film grain and dated clothes and synth music.
There's a great little seen movie from '83 called Sole Survivor about a woman who survives a plane crash and zombies begin coming after her and anyone who gets in the way. It's really subtle and creepy. Same goes for Let's Scare Jessica To Death and Messiah of Evil. I lump them all into the same spooky category.

I saw a recent movie called Boarding School, which is probably the most original and unsettling horror film to come out this year. Shame it went straight to VOD. Always been a fan of Will Patton, who really gets to sink his teeth into his role. The last 20 minutes are incredible and there is a death scene that's up there with the best giallos in terms of visual artistry.

Thanks for posting those threads, but it's hard to revive old threads with lots of replies because people don't post unless they have read all the comments.

This was a real gem, I was so happy to find it again, I had always remembered it and found it on Terrarium.

Urban legend is a good "mood" movie for Halloween.
It has suspense, dark nights, thunder, lightning, rain, and MURDER!

As R4 says, the first "Night of the Living Dead" is still scary even after 50 years of imitations.

Night of the Living Dead is coming back to theaters on October 24th and 25th from Fathom Events. Pretty cool. I've never seen it on the big screen.

The Haunting (1963) is my favorite, hands down.
The House on Haunted Hill (1959) is excellent in its earliness, and don’t forget

A made-for-TV movie that scared me as a kid was "How Awful about Allan" with Julie Harris and Anthony Perkins.

The Fog, original 1980 version, directed by John Carpenter. I like it even better than Halloween. One of the best atmospheres of any horror movie you'll ever see. I watch it every Halloween.

The Haunting is really wonderful. Another of Shirley Jackson's novels, We Have Always Lived In The Castle, is being made into a movie this year, but I have my doubts.

I can't find it, but we did a thread about hot men in horror movies a few year back.
We should revive that.
