In the book, Ehrenstein interviews a lot of Hollywood gays. One of the things they say is that it isn't heterosexuals they are most worried about -- it's gays. We are the ones who like to gossip the most about who is gay and which gay celebrities are involved. I think David Geffen says in the book that he blames the gays for starting the rumors about him & Keanu Reeves.

The point is that gays have better gaydar than straights. The younger straight generation today is a little more tuned in to who is gay then they were in the days of Rock Hudson, but they are still pretty clueless. However, we are able to often figure out who is gay years in advance and predict which gay celebrities will come out. On gay forums like DL, the power of the "Gay Collective" is magnified because hundreds of gays are gathered together in one place figuring out which celebs are gay.

This is probably alarming to gay celebrities who are still in the closet.
