'Godzilla: King of the Monsters' (2019)

Starring Millie Bobby Brown, Sally Hawkins, Vera Farmiga, Ziyi Zhang, Bradley Whitford, Kyle Chandler, Charles Dance, Ken Watanabe. Directed by Michael Dougherty; screenplay by Zach Shields, Max Borenstein, and Michael Dougherty.

[quote]The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.

In theatres May 31st.

Shout out to Debussy.

by Anonymousreply 1July 21, 2018 7:42 PM

I'm really not into the Godzilla franchise but those beasts look awesome, and the cinematography looks promising as well.

r1 Which bussy?

by Anonymousreply 2July 21, 2018 7:47 PM

My goodness. That trailer was poetry.

Was that Mothra @ 1:23 ??

by Anonymousreply 3July 21, 2018 7:52 PM

If you grew up watching these rubber suits duking it out in English dubs on TV, this shit it catnip...

by Anonymousreply 4July 21, 2018 7:57 PM

WHO IS THE SHILL POSTING ALL THESE NEW MOVIES LATELY? There's Aquaman, Halloween, and who knows what else??? GET THE FUCK OFF DL.

by Anonymousreply 5July 21, 2018 8:17 PM

It's Comic-Con so of course the trailers are dropping left and right. Also, some of us come to DL to discuss current movies and TV shows, you'll be shocked to learn.

And what's with the all-caps? Insane much?

wondering which monster Sally Hawkins is gonna bone this time

by Anonymousreply 8July 21, 2018 8:23 PM

I’m dying to see this. I loved the Godzilla reboot and this looks terrific

by Anonymousreply 9July 21, 2018 8:23 PM

Thank God! I was terrified we'd go a couple more years without another Godzilla movie!!!

by Anonymousreply 10July 21, 2018 8:24 PM

r7 Had no idea she was in this movie but got excited when I saw her in the trailer. Looking forward to hearing her speak again. But yes, I also immediately thought of what r8 said.

by Anonymousreply 11July 21, 2018 8:25 PM

I’m glad to see Ken Watanbe and Sally Hawkins are back from the first film🙌🏾

by Anonymousreply 12July 21, 2018 8:26 PM

This looks beautiful, Mothra looks glorious. There were some truly wonderful moments in Godzilla 2014, I hope this continues, and improves upon that.

by Anonymousreply 13July 22, 2018 1:17 AM

Godzilla 2014’s plot was too unwieldy at times but this one looks simple and beautiful.

by Anonymousreply 14July 22, 2018 1:29 AM

Anyone know anything about any backstage drama with MBB and this movie? I heard someone mention today that some in the cast or the crew were referring to her as the King of the Monsters from the movie's title. I hope it was just a joke.

by Anonymousreply 15July 22, 2018 1:34 AM

I love the "Clair de Lune" music piece.

by Anonymousreply 16July 22, 2018 1:37 AM

R6 STFU, basic fan bitch.

by Anonymousreply 17July 22, 2018 2:35 AM

I'll see it for hot daddy Kyle Chandler.

by Anonymousreply 18July 22, 2018 3:09 AM

Simple? It doesn't look simple at all. They have to bring the titans out to fix... global warming???

by Anonymousreply 19July 22, 2018 3:32 AM

I still can't believe they killed Juliette Binoche (!!!!!!) in the first ten minutes of the last one

by Anonymousreply 20July 22, 2018 3:41 AM

That first film was one giant tease with no emotional payoff from a character perspective, but Godzilla's atomic breath was cool. Hoping this film actually delivers. I like the director a lot.

by Anonymousreply 21July 22, 2018 3:47 AM

Sally Hawkins bonded with a mystical amphibian creature in an Oscar winning movie, and now it's Godzilla. I wonder when she'll ever get a normal movie role?

by Anonymousreply 22July 22, 2018 3:58 AM

I completely disagree r21, I think these monsters are amazing when you show them fleetingly but become a bore when they are around onscreen forever. Gareth Edwards made an amazing movie and I’m very worried about his absence in the sequel.

That said: The trailer looks pretty good ... but why is MBB the lead? Is she not a child?

SALLY!!! 💕

by Anonymousreply 26July 22, 2018 4:39 AM

My partner loves Godzilla, he’s happy.

by Anonymousreply 27July 22, 2018 4:40 AM

R25 they have employed more than enough monsters in the movie already. No need to have one more

by Anonymousreply 28July 22, 2018 4:48 AM

I hope the teeny twin chicks are in this.

“MOOOOOO-THERA!!!!!!”

by Anonymousreply 29July 22, 2018 5:00 AM

Not surprisingly the music publisher put out a video of the trailer music featuring the Clair de Lune arrangement.

by Anonymousreply 34July 22, 2018 6:34 AM

Cher pre-dates dinosaurs, so her appearance would be historically inaccurate. Nancy Pelosi, on the other hand.....................

by Anonymousreply 35July 22, 2018 12:29 PM

To me the definitive Godzilla is the original Japanese language version from 1954, Gojira.

R36, it’s on TCM tonight. I’ve never seen it, only the version with Raymond Burr.

by Anonymousreply 37July 22, 2018 1:11 PM

R37, I just checked my cable guide & it's on at 6AM tomorrow morning (eastern time).

The Raymond Burr version incorporates a lot of the stuff from the original version into that movie - some scene dubbed into English, some left in Japanese, with Burr "explaining" what's going on as if he's there in the room. But the anti-bomb/war aspect of the original film is toned down.

The original has a unique perspective, given Japan is the only country ever to get hit with atomic bombs . . .

by Anonymousreply 43July 23, 2018 1:21 PM

Love Clair de Lune. An excellent use of it was at the end of The Right Stuff. The ending of Oceans 11 paid homage to that.

by Anonymousreply 44July 23, 2018 1:29 PM

Is Ziyi Zhang playing a Japanese again?

by Anonymousreply 45July 23, 2018 1:38 PM

Who can tell r45?

They all look alike to Americans

by Anonymousreply 46July 23, 2018 2:38 PM

I enjoy Godzilla movies, but I will avoid, on principle, anything that features Millie Bobby Brown.

by Anonymousreply 50July 23, 2018 4:48 PM

I fucking can’t wait and I rarely am excited for films. This one I’ll be throwing my money at theaters.

by Anonymousreply 51July 23, 2018 4:57 PM

R47, that’s King Ghidorah

by Anonymousreply 52July 23, 2018 6:08 PM

R58 why did he marry a much older woman? I highly doubt it was love

by Anonymousreply 60July 26, 2018 6:24 AM

Oh man, that trailer looks cheesy and awful, so I am SO there in 2019!

However, my enjoyment will probably be just of the cheese factor, because if Gareth Edwards isn't directing there's no way it'll be as good as the 2014 remake. Which wasn't great but which was much better than it had any right to be, Edwards used some excellent camera work to rise above the generic script - you felt like you were right there with the monsters looming over you. But then, I don't demand much in the way of quality from my Japanese monster movies, if they're ridiculous I'm almost as happy as if they're good.

by Anonymousreply 61July 26, 2018 7:04 AM

Love the smog monster! That was my favorite movie, when I was a twelve-year-old nerd!

But this movie won't be complete unless it has Mothra's tiny girl sidekick, and the leading team of monster scientists includes a ten-year-old boy.

The monsters in the final trailer at r63 really don't look that great. The more they show them, the more they look like a computer game, especially when fighting it out.

by Anonymousreply 68May 26, 2019 9:18 PM

Shit that retard girl ruined the movie

by Anonymousreply 69May 26, 2019 9:20 PM

r69 Have you seen it at a press screening?
