Best soap theme

soap threads seemed to be allowed these days

here's something I've always wondered about the popularity of soap opera opening themes - which is the most popular?

"And suddenleee you take me awaaaaay... to another world!"

Hands down the best.

I played the theme to Y and R in a piano recital as a kid. It was really popular in the late 70’s.

I liked the Passions theme but I would later watch a week's worth of shows in a day on the old VCR & I'd have to admit the long version would get on my nerves at times (especially if it didn't fit the mood of the show at the start).

A dead young black rapper in America in 2018?

Who could of predicted such a thing?

I'm listening to "Another One Bites The Dust" by Queen on my car radio as I drive myself home.

by Anonymousreply 15June 21, 2018 12:16 AM

Miss R15 is in the wrong thread, but she should be slapped repeatedly for using "could of."

by Anonymousreply 16June 21, 2018 12:21 AM

OP, my favorites would be:

A tie between the 83-85 GL and the 1991 era GL theme

The 70s AW

The 80s ATWT

The "disco" GL

Ryan's Hope theme

The old Doctors theme

I know its heresy to say this, but my favorite AW theme was the 81-87 one.

Thank you, r22. Also, thank you for saying "reaction shot."

Did anyone ever notice that Dr. Mark Craig on St. Elsewhere had a great friend—maybe a mentor, I can no longer remember—named Dr. David Domedion. It came right back to me when I started watching ATWT and its end credits.

by Anonymousreply 24June 21, 2018 8:30 AM

Here's the full instrumental of the AW credits circa 1981.

Some really good cast shots. Especially of Beverly Penberthy, Paul Stevens and Irene Dailey.

Thanks, r25. Who could have known in 1981 that I would become the Magnificent Midwestern Towns fan I turned into by 1989?

by Anonymousreply 26June 21, 2018 8:47 AM

Crossroads (UK) had even more incarnations than American soaps.

by Anonymousreply 46June 21, 2018 6:57 PM

I still laugh at someone in one of the Midwestern threads who said that when Victoria Wyndham farted, it sounded like the 70s AW theme.

by Anonymousreply 47June 22, 2018 9:36 PM

Can't believe they left the original EDGE OF NIGHT opening off the poll.
