Immigration! Immigration! Immigration!
It's all I hear from the left wing anymore.
Who in the donkey party is focused on voiding the Repubs chance of holding a constitutional convention?
Shouldn't this be an ongoing topic of major concern? Like level 10 out of 10?
As a political junkie, I can't recall a single time it was brought up by any Dem out on the campaign trail or even in the liberal media.
Can anyone here post any articles written by left wingers from 2016 to the present where its being made the top priority it should be? Michael Moore? Steinem?Bill or Hillary? Pelosi? Debbie W.-S.? The Obamas? anybody?
Repubs could rewrite all of the liberal groups rights = feminists, unions, LGBT, racial minorities, religious minorities, etc. but I'm not aware of any left leaning movement having a fund set up to target the repubs chances of getting a constitutional convention held in the future with ads, voter turnout, etc. on this issue.
Liberals have been laughing at Trump's wall but it's still moving forward. They don't seem to take conservatives seriously until they are in office. I'm not confident in any current party/movement/alliance's ability to thwart their plans. This should be all non republicans # 1 priority not immigration.
Discuss.

Op I'm also sick of illegal immigrants being the sole focus of attention. It's not our #1 priority.

I would prefer their attention be focused on Americans.
Not pandering to non-citizens who are in violation of our laws.

I sympathize with the children, but I fear that while the media is distracted by covering this, there's no telling what Trump and his minions are up to.
We haven't heard anything about Mueller investigation all weekend. And this is the first I've read about a constitutional convention.
We're so fucked.

R14 No that's what I'm complaining about in this thread & why I created it.
I think it's the biggest issue out there for all non republicans & hardly anyone is talking about it.
R15 You'll be singing another tune with this issue if the repubs do well in the fall elections.

Trump got elected on this issue.* Dems better be doing something to fix the porous southern border.

Democrats and Republicans agree that the system is broken and needs some updating. The Congress will never reform itself, so a convention is the only means possible for the citizenry to fix things.

r7 that's also a big concern of mine. WTF else is going on while the media is focused on the border?

The only fix for the threat of constitutional convention is to vote the bastards out and that's an ongoing project of Democrats, who have been turning out above and beyond at every election.
So, this falls into the realm of concern trolling.

OP, yes, interesting topic, but c'mon. From your own link at R12:
[quote] However, holding a constitutional convention is still a niche issue that exists in the background of American politics. So while it's true that some conservative activists are pushing for a convention, and the Democrats' astonishing weakness at the state level could make one start seeming like a real possibility, it's probably still a long way's off

That's the problem. People are too focused on whatever he comes up with, that they're ignoring the blatant stuff that is happening every week in the country. The abuses of power, the breaking of laws. "The other shoe is about to drop" my ass. It's been dropped for the last year and a half.
These detention centers are a flagrant violation of human rights. If this was happening in any other country, the US and UN would intervene. Enough with the strongly worded statements on Twitter. Every democrat in the House and Senate should stand together on TV and call it out for what it is.

Sorry to bust your bubble, but the Democratic turnout for the recent Pennsylvania primary was <15% of registered voters.

As I put in another thread, I listen to Spanish-language radio. Last week, I heard a young gay man talk about how he thought that Latinos have become more accepting of gays. Or at least the ones in his family.
However today, I heard another young man, on the most popular Spanish-language religious station (they hold mega-events in stadiums) talking about how homosexuals are evil and go against the teachings of Jesus and gays shouldn't be allowed to marry, much less adopt children.
I personally prefer Latinos to any other groups: I love their culture, the food, their devotion to their families, the warmth, and feel completely at home with them, however, I am opposed to illegal immigration because, in this Age of Automation, we need immigrants whose skills are not going to become obsolete.
And I don't think that mass migration behooves either their countries or ours.
Rather than take all comers, unvetted, we need to demand that the US stops its skullduggery in Latin America and work with our neighbors to make sure that they achieve their potential.
Instead, Dump is getting exactly what he and the GOP want - they're distracting us with this unpopular topic while they dismantle the US. So I agree with the OP: DEMOCRATS, FOCUS ON WHAT AMERICANS NEED. Don't fall into Donnie Fatso's and that cretin McConnell's trap.

R25 I agree with everything you said.
Repubs have a way of spinning the immigration issue as "liberals caring more about non Americans than regular citizens".
So far it's always worked for them.
They control the White House, Senate, U.S. House, U.S. Supreme Court & a majority of state governments.
Dems control a bunch of city mayors that the conservatives really don't give a damn about & whose policies can easily be overridden at the state (like North Carolina) or the national level.

The immigration system is not failing -- its laws have stopped being enforced. A lot of this has to do with Israel flying high ranking LA city officials to TelAviv, and then those same officials refusing to enforce the laws when they return home.
You are hearing about nothing but immigration because the Jews who have ruined the Democratic Party want it that way.

Democratic candidates are currently investing a grand total of 3.4% of their advertising budget on immigration issues. Their main issue isn't immigration, it's health care.

Wrong R31. Read this article which says 40 new miles of construction was funded for border barriers where there weren't any. That's progress.
He signed a 6.4% increase in March for new fencing (an increase of $1.6 billion). That's progress.
He went to California this year to personally examine 8 different prototypes & to "pick out the best one". That's progress.
Everyone should realize that the wall (as large as it was proposed) wouldn't be up in less than 2 years after the proposal. Everything from putting a man on the moon to repairing monuments takes several years at the least. The current "slow progress" might make dems happy but it is still advancing forward step by step.

R30 I wasn't talking about advertising by politicians/political parties when I made this thread back in early June because there wasn't much to talk about. They weren't talking about health care much back then either.
I was mainly talking about speeches where immigration was mentioned to be the main topic for 2018 & not a single mention to "rally the troops" on the Constitutional Convention Crisis that could be coming if repubs pull out any more victories in the fall elections.
It seems like the dems & the third parties just don't want to fear monger on the issue. If the roles were reversed, the repubs would be fear mongering this situation until the cows came home. It's like the fall elections don't have anything new at stake (compared to other election cycles) or any game changing situations on the horizon like a Constitutional Convention. Dems will lose their minds if that reality happens & of course the big issue will be why the dems didn't bring it up during the entire '18 campaign with specific talk shows, ads, town halls, etc.

R33, read your own fucking link. None of that is in any way Trump's version of the wall. It's maintenance on existing fencing and some new fencing in some areas. There hasn't been any real progress, no matter how much Trump whines.

R34, Democrats have been running on health care all year. And nobody is "rallying the troops" on that "crisis" because there doesn't appear to be any real crisis. Democrats are heavily favored this year, even if they don't retake the Senate.
