Do you think we will see the death of the Republican party in our lifetime?

I'm hopeful of yes, within the next 40 years.

by Anonymousreply 70June 20, 2018 2:36 PM

No.

Evil never dies.

by Anonymousreply 1June 19, 2018 7:02 AM

I think we’ll see the death of the US as we know it.

by Anonymousreply 2June 19, 2018 7:04 AM

Sure, troll R2.

by Anonymousreply 3June 19, 2018 7:05 AM

Yes. I truly believe the GOP's handling of gun control and school shootings for the last 20 years is going to come back and bite them in the ass.

by Anonymousreply 4June 19, 2018 7:08 AM

I hope so. Some of the stuff the Democratic party does is ridiculous and wrong but they don't seem to believe it's okay to snatch kids from their parents and lock them in a cage. Plus there's the whole allowing insurance to deny people coverage for depression meds or type 1 diabetes. I don't understand how anybody who isn't well off and white could vote Republican.

by Anonymousreply 5June 19, 2018 7:09 AM

Not as long as overly insecure, masculine men dominate. The rural population with their fears will always embrace these lunatics.

by Anonymousreply 6June 19, 2018 7:40 AM

In France, we've seen the crumbling of both the Socialist and the Republican parties in less than a year (2017). We'll see how they do in 2022, but so far it's not looking good. All in favour of a "movement" designed around a personality.

by Anonymousreply 7June 19, 2018 7:45 AM

Wish you'd included a poll.

I don't think they'll die. I think they'll adapt - mobilize all voting white males to vote in every single election. They'll retain control for the next 100 years.

by Anonymousreply 8June 19, 2018 7:49 AM

It will take a civil war and blood in the streets, OP.

Anyone who supports todays Republican party needs to be killed.

by Anonymousreply 9June 19, 2018 7:49 AM

Republicans are more than partly responsible for the shit show in American culture. It is a cultural issue caused by decades of propaganda from Fox News and right wing media. This is what they've created with the win-at-all-costs mentality. It's divisive and they have managed to turn "us vs. them" into a business, convincing people to vote against their own best interests by lying to them constantly and gaslighting. And then you have Russian propaganda in the last decade as Putin tries to restore the Soviet Union. So a lot of these people have their worst instincts and impulses fed day in and day out and with today's everpresent media and communication it's almost impossible to avoid.

The only way they are going away is if the beast they created destroys them for something even worse.

by Anonymousreply 10June 19, 2018 8:54 AM

The Republican Party is already dead. It is only the Trump Party. Everyone who isn’t a Trump cultist has become “independent.” The brand has been destroyed.

by Anonymousreply 11June 19, 2018 9:04 AM

The Republican party ii the party of white people and white privilege and will continue to shrink as they have no outreach to other groups. It is approximately 30% of the electorate and should hit 25% within the next 5 years. Their numbers are unsustainable and younger white voters are not aligned with the current Republican party. The party of Trump will go the way of the Whigs as they have repudiated every political position, except anti-abortion.

They are not the party of fiscal responsibility. They are not the party of deficit and debt reduction. They are not the anti tax party as tariffs are taxes. They are not the party of the NATO Alliance. They are the party of Putin and Kim. They remain the party of voter disenfranchisement. They remain the party of institutional racism. They remain the party of the Southern Strategy. They as a party have turned their backs on what it means to e an American.

Fuck Trump.

Fuck the Trumpublican Party..

by Anonymousreply 12June 19, 2018 9:25 AM

R11 that has been the party base since Reagan. It's not destroyed, just changed.

by Anonymousreply 13June 19, 2018 9:25 AM

Nope. There;s too much money in it for it to just die. They'll make a few cosmetic changes if necessary but there'll be a Republican Party as long as we're alive.

by Anonymousreply 14June 19, 2018 9:41 AM

Yes. Demographics are not in their favor. The most solid Republicans are over 65, and that’s not very sustainable for growth.

by Anonymousreply 15June 19, 2018 9:51 AM

Its choking to death as we speak, its now the Trump Party. The so called "ethical" Republicans are suddenly pretending they are Independents and had noting to do with it. Except they did and they put him into office. They all voted for him, he didn't win with just the Tea Baggers.

by Anonymousreply 16June 19, 2018 11:39 AM

yes. it is going to happen within the next ten years. they passed the point of no return just recently. A new party will emerge which will go back to the what the republican party used to stand for.

America is going to survive but will be a different country unlike what we have known. Washington will have less power and the states will have more. The country will never go thru something like this again.

The country became too big to be ruled by the few who have mostly turned to politics for all the perks and money the can make from it. Unfortunately most of those that truly wanted to be a good politician became lost in the fold of greed. You can't miss what you never had but once you have it you never want to give it up.

by Anonymousreply 17June 19, 2018 11:47 AM

Clearly we need multiple parties in this country. There are a distinct group of non-batshit conservatives out there who are horrified by what the GOP has become.

Not my beliefs, but there's a significant voting block out there that still believes in limited government, limited taxation, focus on private initiative, etc. Cheeto Hitler turned the GOP into a personality cult.

At least four parties - hard left, center left, center right, hard right - would hopefully allow people to engage in political movements they believe in. Whoever won the presidency would have to have a majority or build one from a coalition to govern. Enough of this "winner take all" nonsense.

by Anonymousreply 18June 19, 2018 11:52 AM

That will never work R18. Countries with more than 2 parties have wild swings and go into odd directions that no one is happy about. Plus America is not that evenly divided. If you did it today the hard left would be 20% while the center left would be close to 30. But on the right it would be 1% center right and 49% ultra right.

by Anonymousreply 19June 19, 2018 12:01 PM

It’s become, even more than ever, the home base of an angry, ignorant nativism, so it’s not going anywhere.

by Anonymousreply 20June 19, 2018 12:13 PM

The party was never supposed to have survived GWB's presidency...

by Anonymousreply 21June 19, 2018 12:13 PM

Yes Please.

by Anonymousreply 22June 19, 2018 12:17 PM

Oh No!

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 23June 19, 2018 12:22 PM

Most likely, there will always be a 2-party system because that's where the money flows. For sure, both parties will change over time. (The Republican party in the Eisenhower era, for example, is much different than the Republican party of today.) However, neither party is going anywhere anytime soon.

by Anonymousreply 24June 19, 2018 12:35 PM

No, what we are seeing is the death of American democracy.

by Anonymousreply 25June 19, 2018 12:39 PM

HEAVEN OR HELL While walking down the street one day a Corrupt Senator was tragically hit by a car and died. His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.

"Welcome to heaven," says St. Peter. "Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we're not sure what to do with you." "No problem, just let me in," says the Senator. "Well, I'd like to, but I have orders from the higher ups. What we'll do is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity." "Really?, I've made up my mind. I want to be in heaven," says the Senator. "I'm sorry, but we have our rules." And with that St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and goes down, down, down to hell. The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a club house and standing in front are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him. Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people. They played a friendly game of golf and then dined on lobster, caviar and the finest champagne. Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly guy who is having a good time dancing and telling jokes. They are all having such a good time that before the Senator realizes it, it is time to go. Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises...

The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens in heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him, "Now it's time to visit heaven.." So, 24 hours passed with the Senator joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns. "Well, then, you've spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity." The Senator reflects for a minute, then he answers: "Well, I would never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in hell." So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell.... Now the doors of the elevator open and he's in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage. He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash falls from above. The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulders. "I don't understand," stammers the Senator. "Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and clubhouse, we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now there's just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable. What happened?" The devil smiles at him and says, "Yesterday we were campaigning ... Today, you voted.."

Vote wisely

by Anonymousreply 26June 19, 2018 12:53 PM

We already have. The republican party is no more. It's the trump party now.

by Anonymousreply 27June 19, 2018 12:57 PM

No, OP. But we saw the death of the Democratic Party in November 2016 though. And it'll never come back.

by Anonymousreply 28June 19, 2018 1:06 PM

It's not dead now. I am not counting Trump out at all in 2020 - in fact his numbers are going up! The sooner liberals / Democrats come to the reality there is a whole country of stupid yahoos living between Northeast USA (DC to Maine) and California, the better they will be. Somehow, Democrats have to get back the middle of the country.

by Anonymousreply 29June 19, 2018 1:10 PM

r29 oh ye of little faith..............he won't be running in 2020 : )

by Anonymousreply 30June 19, 2018 1:19 PM

R30 Are you included in this montage?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 31June 19, 2018 1:24 PM

R19: You're so wrong. Countries with multiple parties report higher voter turnout and higher satisfaction with democracy. The American system sucks. But until we get rid of primary elections and institute some form of proportional representation, it is very unlikely we will move to a multi-party system.

R28: Yeah, that's why the "dead" Democratic Party is winning this year's midterms. OK there, pal.

by Anonymousreply 32June 19, 2018 1:25 PM

Both parties will die.

by Anonymousreply 33June 19, 2018 1:45 PM

r31 there was never a single moment that I ever laughed at any of this.

did I believe he would win? no

was I laughing at him? no

by Anonymousreply 34June 19, 2018 2:02 PM

Remember when Obama was elected (both times) and there was a lot of discussion about how the GOP needs to adapt to a changing demographic in the US or face irrelevance? About how they could win again nationally if they dropped their immigration rhetoric, because it was alienating Hispanics, who would soon be a majority of the US?

Well, the GOP got that memo, but went in a different direction with it: they have now doubled down on anti-immigration rhetoric in the hopes of reversing Hispanic growth in the US, and therefore prolonging white majority for a few more years. The GOP knows this was a one-way road, and that they will never again be able to woo Hispanics to vote Republican. The GOP knows it will die when white people become a minority in the US.

What’s worrisome is that they seem to be prepared to do some unspeakable shit in order to keep that from happening.

by Anonymousreply 35June 19, 2018 2:17 PM

While there is no specific requirement calling for a two party system, the constitutional provision creating the Electoral College forces it on us. Ergo, there will always be a Left and a Right in the U.S., unless and until the constitution is amended. Until that happens, if ever, the entrenched term "Republican" will probably soldier on, as it effectively connotes right wing. If it does formally die, the party that will take its place will have all the same people and all the same issues.

by Anonymousreply 36June 19, 2018 2:35 PM

The Republicans are simply the Right side of the spectrum. There will always be two parties in opposition. Their views will change partly in response to the strength of their opposition. So, the Republican name might change, but it will be the same people opposing Democratic ideas and initiatives.

by Anonymousreply 37June 19, 2018 2:42 PM

they will fight fiercely to keep the con going, gerrymandering, voter suppression, propaganda, corruption etc. There is a life of death fight.

Republicans will either be destroyed or they will destroy American democracy.

by Anonymousreply 38June 19, 2018 4:00 PM

They are well on their way to doing the latter R38!

by Anonymousreply 39June 19, 2018 4:10 PM

I'm 65, so no.

by Anonymousreply 40June 19, 2018 4:27 PM

In terms of trending... -Republican shrinkage -Democratic slower shrinkage -At least a growth of demand for third party, more likely leaning left as the Democratics (or at least leadership) continue to push to attain the independents (of which many lean right) and disenfranchised ex-Republicans; in the meantime, the continued growth of no-party/independents

Whites will go more heavily towards Republicans as time goes, with the rest finding appeal in the 3rd party (but otherwise sticking Dem). Non-whites will sometimes attempt, more than ever, to go Repub, but the continued disgusting transformation of the party will alienate them, so further conservative non-whites will go Dem, while further liberal non-whites may try 3rd party. Republican party will more likely get even more white (while positioning non-whites as showpieces), while Democratic party will become non-white. An even more distinct gender split will occur, with more women disgusted with the Republican status, and more men disgruntled with the Democratic status.

So far, I'd predict the 2020s to be a dying Republican party, while the Democratic party picks up, but also transforms to become even more centrist as movements to split it occur. The Ds will return to be winners until that happens, then the Rs will take advantage of the chaos (2020s-2030s) and return for their next wave of wins.

But I'm just Canadian.

by Anonymousreply 41June 19, 2018 6:29 PM

Nope. After Nixon the country went right back to them for 12 years with Reagan and Bush.

by Anonymousreply 42June 19, 2018 6:32 PM

We will see the death of human decency in America in our lifetime, that's for sure.

by Anonymousreply 43June 19, 2018 6:35 PM

Will see, R43? We already are.

by Anonymousreply 44June 19, 2018 6:43 PM

The Republican party will just "rebrand" itself. It's done so a few times in recent years.

After Dubya, it rebranded as the "Tea Party" and started throwing taxation and deficits around as its big beefs.

For Trump's era it rebranded itself as, well, Trump. Focusing on blaming bogeymen like the EPA for the loss of jobs in the rust belt and other depressed areas, as well as becoming embarrassingly transparent in its racist messaging.

After Trump, the talking heads will just say, "Well forget about all that other stuff. There are **NEW** threats to our freedumb and we need to mobilize!" And the herd will follow right along behind.

by Anonymousreply 45June 19, 2018 6:53 PM

What will it take for decent people in America to do something? Easier said than done I know. But this is not something one can live with.

by Anonymousreply 46June 19, 2018 7:19 PM

no, The GOP is finished.

by Anonymousreply 47June 19, 2018 7:22 PM

The Republican party will live (and thrive) as long as religion and money drive people's votes - which pretty much means it will never die. Those who think otherwise are living in a fantasy.

by Anonymousreply 48June 19, 2018 7:41 PM

[quote] The Republican party will live (and thrive) as long as religion and money drive people's votes -

Thank goodness, younger Americans are becoming less religious.

by Anonymousreply 49June 19, 2018 7:43 PM

America will be a minority white country in 20 years.

Of course by that point perhaps the GOP will have their apartheid police state perfected.

by Anonymousreply 50June 19, 2018 11:54 PM

I think we will see the death of the Republican party. However, the cause of death will be from the far radical/extremist right than from anywhere on the left.

by Anonymousreply 51June 19, 2018 11:57 PM

[quote] America will be a minority white country in 20 years

And that is something you want, R50?

by Anonymousreply 52June 20, 2018 12:08 AM

It doesn't matter what anybody wants, R52. It's what's going to happen whether you like it or not.

by Anonymousreply 53June 20, 2018 12:10 AM

The Democrats are strictly a party for minorities.

Whites are still the majority. And no whites are going to vote Dem as they continue to move to the extreme left.

by Anonymousreply 54June 20, 2018 12:12 AM

IMO the Republican Party is already dead. The media keeps talking about "the Republicans" and pretending it's business as usual with two political parties, but it isn't. there needs to be a new party . A party that understands that "conservatism" is not about "social conservatives" but it refers to the relationship of the states to the federal government and the proper role of the federal government.

by Anonymousreply 55June 20, 2018 12:16 AM

Look at what happened to the Republican party in California. They used to be large and in charge and gave the country two Republican presidents. Now they can't even buy office. There are less Republicans in California than Independents. They are a dying, third party, and it's a pleasure to watch them gasp their last, dying breaths.

by Anonymousreply 56June 20, 2018 12:18 AM

I live for the day they are jailed or dead.

by Anonymousreply 57June 20, 2018 12:25 AM

R54: Are you liar or a retard?

by Anonymousreply 58June 20, 2018 12:27 AM

Dear asswipe at R54 The Democratic Party is a party of Inclusion and the policies they support are for universal healthcare, a higher minimum wage, jobs programs training programs, education, a cleaner energy and environmental policy, and regulatory policies for the financial services industry that prevent excessive interest rates for credit cards, and other consumer protections and also regulations that seek to prevent another financial crisis like the one the Republicans gave us in 2007.etc.

Obama was a good example of what the Dems represent. I'm not a minority except for being Gay. The Republican Party of today is about Rich people grabbing everything they can and everyone else can go fuck themselves. Anyone who self identifies as Republican today is a vile excuse for a human being. You want Dems to move Right? Bernie wants them to go left, and what you'll get from both extremes is the unity of oppoite as Vlad lLenin used to call it. It shoul be clear to anyone with a brain that Putin exploited our divisions and racial hatred as well as homophobia to destabilize our country and help elect Trump. And the sad thing is that it's so easy to do that.

by Anonymousreply 59June 20, 2018 12:30 AM

[quote] It doesn't matter what anybody wants, [R52]. It's what's going to happen whether you like it or not.

Ok, fine, but you avoid the question, R53. Is it something you want or not?

by Anonymousreply 60June 20, 2018 12:33 AM

We need a party for moderates.

by Anonymousreply 61June 20, 2018 12:33 AM

It’s already happening

by Anonymousreply 62June 20, 2018 1:04 AM

The Republican Party would have died if Trump did not enter the race. They would have lost. The establishment of the party hates Trump but as long he passes their anti-environment, anti-everything and pro-tax cuts for the rich stuff, they will go along with him. The Democratic Party still does not have a leader or a clear positive message. It is all anti-Trump. They may be united in being anti-Repub/Trump but they are divided in terms of center and fringe left positions/candidates and to appear to be some weird mixture of both with not appeal to either camp, or the public.

by Anonymousreply 63June 20, 2018 1:11 AM

WILL not appeal to either

by Anonymousreply 64June 20, 2018 1:12 AM

Yeah a one party totalitarian state is just what the OP wants...F Off

The Establishment Republicans will go the way of the Whigs. In its place is a new party which Trump is already building. Good or bad we will see. I also see a future split in the Democratic Party between the far left and the more centrist social democrat types.

I am sick of the Nanny State, be it right or left. The problem with regulation is initially some regulation of an activity is needed. Regulators are hired. However, after the necessary regs are in place; what do the regulators have to do...that is they create more regulations on top of regulations. Hire more regulators. Until kids can't even have a lemonade stand anymore. Additionally, entrenched Industries love intensive regulations because it keeps competition at bay. Its to protect the people yeah right. Notice how everyone on the various regulatory boards are from the industry being regulated.

by Anonymousreply 65June 20, 2018 1:21 AM

The US doesn't really have, and never had a "nanny state" - that is why there is no single-payer healthcare and e coli on the lettuce.

by Anonymousreply 66June 20, 2018 1:26 AM

On a related thread I now see that DL threads are getting linked over at gab.ai, a/k/a Hipster Nazis R Us.

Which explains a hell of a lot.

by Anonymousreply 67June 20, 2018 5:52 AM

Its called progress, r52. Why are you so determined on keeping America majority white? Fucking piece of shit Nazi. You need to be gunned down.

by Anonymousreply 68June 20, 2018 11:26 AM

This is exactly what Steve Bannon and Breitbart were working towards. A legitimate White Supremacist Party. They said it loud and often that Bannon's aim was to completely tear down the Republican Party and rebuild it into "the Party of Trump." And now that it's happened I hope they choke on it.

by Anonymousreply 69June 20, 2018 1:51 PM

They just need to re-brand themselves and use the name of one of their predecessor parties.
