Why Anointing Joe Biden for 2020 is a Terrible Idea
It is little wonder, then, that of the six people considered the most likely 2020 Democratic presidential contenders, only “Middle-Class Joe” does not support single-payer healthcare.

If centrism is a thing that gets rids of Trump in 2020, I'm all for it. We can always go further to the left after that.

WTF is In These Times? A Bernie paper?

by Anonymousreply 3May 11, 2018 12:25 AM

He's just too old.

by Anonymousreply 4May 11, 2018 12:26 AM

At present the Democrats really do not have a viable candidate to beat Trump. They're grasping at straws. It'll take time but don't underestimate Trump's popularity. Throw out the present batch of candidates and start from scratch. And no, it ain't Joe, either.

by Anonymousreply 5May 11, 2018 12:28 AM

Berniac wing of the party still wants a "pure" nominee, meanwhile our country is being destroyed by Trump and the repubilicans because of their purity. Joe won't be anointed either, he'll have to earn the nomination.

by Anonymousreply 6May 11, 2018 12:30 AM
He's just too old.

What is it with American and these ancient guys? He's 75 NOW.

by Anonymousreply 7May 11, 2018 12:32 AM
“Middle-Class Joe” does not support single-payer healthcare.

Middle-Class Joe didn't support marriage equality, until he did. I am hoping Joe doesn't run but no just because he doesn't support something today doesn't mean he won't tomorrow. Same for anyone else.

by Anonymousreply 8May 11, 2018 12:33 AM

I don't want a 77 yr old president.

by Anonymousreply 9May 11, 2018 1:07 AM

Enough Biden talk.

by Anonymousreply 10May 11, 2018 1:19 AM

Well he’s arguably the front runner right now, so there won’t be “enough Biden talk” unless he announces that he won’t run.

by Anonymousreply 11May 11, 2018 1:48 AM

R11 If Biden is the front runner then God help the Democrats.

Republicans begin their candidate-seeking and mouthpiece-searching when kids are in HIGH SCHOOL. Stephen Miller was tapped by the GOP when he was still in high school. They supported him through college. Karl Rove was head of the student Republicans when the GOP started supporting him and giving him work. He dropped out of college because he didn't need it anymore. He was already working with top level Republicans.

Democrats don't do this. They should take a page from the GOP and start noticing kids writing for their school papers who have writing talent and a commitment to democratic ideals. Then praise them, offer them emotional support and sometimes financial support. Make them feel they are valuable to the Democratic Party.

We always see Young Republicans at the RNC and CPAC. When was the last time you saw Young Democrats? There is no centralized office in the Democratic Party that plans national searches for bright young things. They need to be noticed, nurtured and rewarded.

When’s the last time Biden made a gaffe?

Trump voters don't care about Trump's lies and gaffes. Liberal voters weren't as forgiving with Hillary and they won't be with Biden. They will sit at home.

I read some SJW attacking Kamala Harris for her "whorephobia."

That will get Trump reelected.

Biden is way too old

by Anonymousreply 22May 13, 2018 1:06 PM

Even thought Kamala Harris appointed a trans person to a position and has been very pro-LGBT rights, Chelsea Manning and the trans mob are against her because as Attorney General representing the state she did not cough up the money for sex-changes for two murderers.

by Anonymousreply 23May 13, 2018 1:35 PM

Even THOUGH

by Anonymousreply 24May 13, 2018 1:35 PM

Democrats who run need a message. "Not Trump" is not a message to run on. Democrats need to forget about 2020 and start working on 2024. They've wasted too much time on Russia collusion and Stormy Daniels.

by Anonymousreply 25May 13, 2018 2:04 PM

IT'S BIDEN'S IRAQ WAR JUDGEMENT, STUPID!

He's already proven he doesn't have the judgement worthy of a president by voting to authorize Dumb Dubya's wild goose chase in Iraq!

by Anonymousreply 26May 13, 2018 2:18 PM

Why is nobody talking about Beto O’Rourke?

He’s a young, likeable, progressive candidate who has mainstream appeal and comes from a conservative area.

by Anonymousreply 27May 13, 2018 2:22 PM

Joe Biden? Doesn’t he have a dead son? I thought I heard that once.

by Anonymousreply 28May 13, 2018 2:26 PM

Anita Hill. The end.

by Anonymousreply 29May 13, 2018 2:28 PM

Fucking hell. Can't they find anybody else? I'm sure Biden is a good man but he's just too old (75 right now) and too... I don't know but just no.

Is there NOBODY else at all? Is there such a vacuum? I think we are in for another 4 years of Trump. Pretty sure of it.

by Anonymousreply 30May 13, 2018 2:33 PM

by Anonymousreply 32May 13, 2018 2:39 PM

He'll be 77 + in 2020. Nearly dead.

by Anonymousreply 33May 13, 2018 2:39 PM

Chuck Schumer - 67

John Kerry - 74

It's time for some younger leaders.

by Anonymousreply 39May 13, 2018 2:44 PM

R34, that guy is Beto O’Rourke, who is about to beat Ted Cruz in the Senate race in Texas.

But the Dems don’t want to hear about him, so fuck them... they can run Joe Biden and lose.

by Anonymousreply 51May 13, 2018 2:59 PM

R49 I am not sure getting shit-faced and beating on women is a "sexual proclivity".

by Anonymousreply 52May 13, 2018 3:00 PM

Gov. of Montana

Gov. Steve Bullock recently became the first governor in Montana history to officiate a same-sex marriage. He performed it Sept. 12 for Mike Wessler, his deputy communications director, and Wade Zolynski at Hauser Lake. About 100 people were in attendance. Wessler gave his boss kudos for a job well done.

R44, Obama served in the Illinois house for 8 years and was a US Senator for 4 more before becoming President. O'Rourke has served in the Texas Senate for 6 years. Even if he defeats Cruz in November (please please please), he'll only be able to serve 2 years in the US Senate before in 2020 elections.

Not that I'm against O'Rourke, exactly the opposite. I'd be happy as hell to see him take the White House away from the rotten orange turnip.

by Anonymousreply 58May 13, 2018 3:25 PM

R54, actually I think Pelosi and Biden are part of the Silent Generation. They are even older than the Boomers.

by Anonymousreply 59May 13, 2018 3:29 PM

Beto looks too young and the drug stuff and the SJW circus will not win votes. Trump could easily crush him.

by Anonymousreply 60May 13, 2018 3:31 PM

R60, he’s in his 40s, and nobody cares about “drug stuff” from 20 years ago.

by Anonymousreply 61May 13, 2018 3:35 PM

I get that sinking feeling. Like when Gore chose Lieberman as his running mate. I knew we'd lost then.

by Anonymousreply 62May 14, 2018 2:27 AM

Biden has done too much groping to be considered POTUS material. Trump may have talked about it, but Biden did it. Plenty of videos on YouTube of him groping women. ##MeToo

by Anonymousreply 63May 14, 2018 3:30 AM

Biden never molested a woman who didn’t want it.

by Anonymousreply 64May 14, 2018 3:47 AM

Haha cute. Molest = didn't want it. Just sayin for those who didn't get the sarcasm

by Anonymousreply 65May 14, 2018 3:50 AM

Biden will be almost eighty fucking years old in 2020. His time has passed.

by Anonymousreply 66May 14, 2018 3:57 AM

Plus he would have to have a really good explanation of why he didn't run after 8 years of Obama. That whole "My son is dying" just doesn't really sound like the "real" reason he didn't run.

by Anonymousreply 67May 14, 2018 4:01 AM

That Biden is even being talked about is depressing.

by Anonymousreply 68May 14, 2018 4:11 AM

I know it's an old story but has the world just forgotten about Biden's plagiarism? I'm not talking about lifting the odd word, a phrase or a passage from one person like Melania was racked over the coals for. Biden was a serial plagiarist, he stole from Neil Kinnock, the Leader of the British Labour Party, RFK, JFK, and Hubert Humphery. Not to mention it was discovered that had committed plagiarism in law school and lied and embellished his college credentials. Honestly, I couldn't believe it when Obama picked Biden to be VP, but it would be idiotic for the Democrat Party to nominate him against Trump. The whole campaign is supposed to be about how Democrats contrast to Trump. If Biden is the nominee, the Democrat campaign becomes, vote for our old white groping lier, we promise he is better than the other one.

by Anonymousreply 69May 14, 2018 4:26 AM

R69, thank you for bringing this up, it’s never mentioned. It was a huge scandal when it came out. Between the plagiarism and his creepynes around young girls, not to mention his age, there’s no way he’d win.

by Anonymousreply 70May 14, 2018 4:36 AM

And his cravenness during Anita Hill.

by Anonymousreply 71May 14, 2018 5:30 AM

Going for Biden because he supposedly has blue collar appeal is like going for Kerry in 2004 because of the war hero thing. It’s trying to play the game on the GOP’s terms, and that’s always a losing proposition. You never play by the rules your opponent sets.

Joe Biden has been a catastrophic failure every time he has run for president. He found his place as the presidential wingman, and was excellent in the role. He should accept that as his place in history.

by Anonymousreply 72May 14, 2018 5:45 AM

by Anonymousreply 75May 14, 2018 5:50 AM

I'd be all in for Elizabeth Warren and think she's one of the few who might be able to bridge the divide between Hillary and Bernie supporters. I get that Dems are focused on the midterms, but trying to "not relitigate 2016" when it was never fully litigated is a big mistake, in my opinion. Thinking it won't rear its ugly head again in 2020 is delusional.

by Anonymousreply 76May 14, 2018 6:14 AM

Warren is too much of a Bernie Bro, I don't like her hypocritical ass.

by Anonymousreply 77May 14, 2018 6:38 AM

What do the boring wimpy Dukakis, Biden, Gore, Kerry have in common. At least Lieberman had his agenda however foul and Hillary has the balls in the Dem family.

by Anonymousreply 80May 14, 2018 9:10 AM

Fuck Joe Biden. Creepy toucher. I don’t give a flying fuck if he’s on “our team”. He cannot keep his hands to himself. But, as always, women and girls are supposed to let it happen and “he’s harmless” and “he’s a good guy” or “he’s from a different time” and he does it in front of a thousand people and a dozen cameras, if it were wrong, he’d be hiding it. Jesus Christ, that’s the exact same kind of entitlement that “I could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and get away with it” is! Oh but he’s a Democrat, we have to support him, hush now, little lady.

And IMO,Elizabeth Warren has the same problem as Hillary but worse: she’s a scold. She reminds me of the lady who teaches Sunday school to the “little ones”. I’d prefer Hillary because at least she gets her hands a little dirty with real power brokering.

And, no, I don’t have any better suggestions. I’ll give Beto a whirl.

Why can’t Obama run again?

In 2004, the Democrats nominated John Kerry.

In 2016, the next presidential election cycle the party lost, their nominee was Hillary Clinton.

Both John Kerry and Hillary Clinton voted for the war in Iraq. (So, too, did 2008’s losing Republican nominee John McCain.)

If the Democrats want to lose [italic]three[/italic] presidential election cycles by nominating specifically a candidate who voted for the Iraq War, they would do be able to achieve that with Joe Biden.
