I mean vocal harmonies in songs, lest someone post their favourite oboe/violin duet

Aren't harmonies in almost every song ever recorded?

In current music, Little Big Town knows harmonies. especially in their tribute to Elton John.

New Kid in Town - Eagles. That last verse...."And he's holding her and you're still around". Dead.
All BeeGees songs. Seriously, what they achieved vocally boggles the mind.
Could It Be Magic - Barry. The whole ending. The backups at full voice, Barry losing himself in the chorus. I'm gone.
10cc The Things We Do For Love. Love to sing this with a friend. :)
I'm also a complete sucker for The Association (Cherish), The Turtles (Elenore), The Hollies (Bus Stop), The Four Seasons (Walk Like a Man), The Fifth Dimension (Let The Sunshine In), Beach Boys (Sloop John B). They did harmonies better in the 60s than any other time in music.
Contemporary would be Ghost Love Score by Nightwish. The ending again, the chorus with its morose verse and the lead singer soaring over them.
I've mentioned in the past that I like my music over the top. Guilty as charged.

HERE COMES THE SUN KING - the Beatles
Also like female close harmony vocal groups like The Chenille Sisters and The Puppini Sisters. The Chenilles do a version of "Dinah" that is fantastic, also a great version of "C-U-B-A" - great stuff.

I have a very soft spot in my heart for The Flirtations' rendition of MY BUDDY.

OP has good taste! "If I Fell" was the first track I thought of, the only one that makes me drift off into some blissed out state.
Who was the journalist who compared the track to wedding vows? It was an apt metaphor.
I also like "Scarborough Canticle" (I think that's what it's called) by Simon and Garfunkel.

R4 I agree on the Everly Brothers. Their harmonies are what everybody elsein rock tried to emulate.

R32, it was Jonathan Gould in his book ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ who made the comparison.
Wonderful choice, OP.

[quote]I also like "Scarborough Canticle" (I think that's what it's called) by Simon and Garfunkel.
It's called "Scarborough Fair/Canticle," and it's the title track from the album Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme. Its harmonies and vocal interplay make it a favorite of mine, too.
"Are you going to Scarborough Fair
Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme
Remember me to one who lives there.
She once was a sweet love of mine."

What about US, you sanctimonious bitches!!!!!
Just because it's not Christmas we don't matter?!?!?!?
Oh sure. When you and all your friends gather to open presents, drink, and sit around the tree, THEN we matter.

The Everly Brothers, especially "Dream".
My favorite, though, and IMHO the master of harmonies, Brian Wilson, arranging those harmonies so beautifully with The Beach Boys.
A few top ones- "Sloop John B" "Wouldn't It Be Nice" "In My Room" and my all-time favorite, "God Only Knows".

R43 According to Michelle, Papa John woke her up in the middle of the night and told her to sign her name to the lyrics of California Dreaming and she would be set for life.
