Because I wanted to read the comments. It's getting spammed now, one of Matt's usual tactics, so it will fill up pretty quickly.

And if I block the thread without blocking the accounts, that leaves those accounts unblocked on other threads.

I had a nightmare recently about Matt coming back to DL and now it's reality. Jesus Christ.

We all should start multiple Call Me By Your Name / Timmy / Armie threads so that Matt will go into a spamming frenzy and, hopefully, have a stroke.

That's what led to his 18-hour meltdown a few months ago, R44, which is where we discovered just how pervasive he was. A few people kept resurrecting threads he was trying to kill and, in the process, he revealed all of the multiple accounts he was using. That's how we tracked him to B&B, Mary Poppins/Julie Andrews, the Broadway threads, the "goyim cracker breeder" crap, the anti-T lunacy, and so on.

If nothing else, he has exposed some real vulnerabilities in the software platform here at DL, since he should not have been able to do what he's doing. Those vulnerabilities have not yet been fixed, alas, so he's free to continue his periodic meltdowns.

Yeah, but on some threads, R54, it can really drag the site down. And we're talking about something like two dozen accounts, if not more, to fully block that loon.

If I were the webmaster, here's what I'd consider:

1. Implement a timer between posts. Put it low enough that 99% of us would never be caught by it, but high enough that it would block Matt's script or render it ineffective.

2. Implement a maximum post count per hour or day, either global or on a particular thread, with a warning when you're close to the limit. It would stop back-and-forth trolling and would block Matt's script.

3. Implement a per hour or day old-thread-bumping limit. If a thread had been dormant for more than one month and you try to bump two dozen of them, you'll get blocked.

I'm sure there are other ideas. None of these would block any real discussions but the combination could help reduce the impact of Matt's denial-of-service attacks.
