What exactly is ANGELS IN AMERICA about?
Sure, there's the actual plot. But, there are so many different themes about religion, community, homophobia, self-hatred, mental health, gay relationships, being in the closet, motherly love and acceptance it gets crazy.
Is there one theme that encapsulated everything in the play?

You can resist change, you can fight against it, but everything eventually changes.

There ARE no angels in America, especially not the ones you thought were angels, with whom you lived with for years, but who abandoned you when you got sick.

It's a "gay fantasia" on AMERICAN themes.

We won’t die secret deaths anymore. The world only spins forward. We will be citizens. The time has come.

It's pretentious nonsense. I fell asleep trying to watch it.

Give the acclaim the play has received, r7, falling asleep says a lot about you and not much about the play.
