HHS proposes rollback of ACA transgender protections
The New York Times reported the Department of Health and Human Services has proposed rolling back Affordable Care Act rules that bar “discrimination based on ‘gender identity’ and ‘stereotypical notions’ about how men or women should present themselves or behave.” The proposal comes after a Texas judge ruled that the transgender protections were “contrary to law and exceeded statutory authority.” Roger Severino, director of the Office for Civil Rights at HHS, explained that “the court order is binding on H.H.S., and we are abiding by it.”
But, “the rule being drafted by the Trump administration puts federal officials at odds with many medical experts.” James L. Madara, MD, “the chief executive of the American Medical Association, urged the administration to preserve the existing protections for transgender people.” In a letter to Severino, Dr. Madara emphasized that the AMA “‘stands behind’ those protections and ‘opposes any modifications to the rule that would jeopardize the health and well-being of vulnerable populations.’”

R4, Oh fuck you. Before ACA, 15% of America (and quickly growing) were uninsured; Medical costs were the #1 cause of bankruptcy; Insurance companies were free to sell junk insurance that ran out after a few thousand dollars.
ACA was a market-based system that would have moved us towards universal coverage, which is cheaper and leads to better outcomes than the crap we had before.
The ONLY system better, and it's FAR superior, is single payer healthcare. The rest of the developed world has adopted it because it works,
