Shania Twain Apologizes! Trump don’t impress her much

Call off the Shania record burnings! She apologized for saying she loves Trump. She was misquoted, misunderstood, yada yada.

Please keep buying her music and merch, gays!

Lots of anger about her original praise of Trump

We know.

Who's buying any of her music these days anyway. Not me.

by Anonymousreply 3April 23, 2018 12:37 AM

This is just going to piss off her deplorable fans too, not endear her to liberals

by Anonymousreply 4April 23, 2018 12:38 AM

Damage is done Princess on multiple fronts. Its not just “discrimination” it is his full assault on Democracy. Something your Country believes in also. Second front is - this is what people will remember about you, a subconscious slip of the tongue. Yr Done.

by Anonymousreply 6April 23, 2018 12:40 AM

Fuck her.

by Anonymousreply 7April 23, 2018 12:42 AM

She must think everybody is as dumb as she is.

by Anonymousreply 8April 23, 2018 12:43 AM

She tweeted:

'I was trying to explain, in response to a question about the election, that my limited understanding was that the President talked to a portion of America like an accessible person they could relate to, as he was NOT a politician.

I wondered if that was what she might have meant. There's truth to that.

by Anonymousreply 9April 23, 2018 12:45 AM

Has been says what?!

by Anonymousreply 10April 23, 2018 12:45 AM

Uhm again she said her words were taken out of context. Perhaps something got lost in translation as she does speak french you know (as Canada is a Bilingual country)

by Anonymousreply 11April 23, 2018 12:49 AM

Those french country songs were hot R11. SMH.

by Anonymousreply 12April 23, 2018 12:53 AM

Why does anyone care what a Canadian singer from the 90s thinks about American politics in 2018?

Can’t they interview her about, oh I don’t know, music?

What does Anne Murray think of Trump? How about Alanis? I need to know what Avril Lavine thinks about Trump.

by Anonymousreply 13April 23, 2018 12:55 AM

R13: Exactly! I'd love to hear Shania talk about music.

by Anonymousreply 14April 23, 2018 12:59 AM

Didn't she say that she would have voted for Trump? It doesn't sound like she was able to backtrack from that.

by Anonymousreply 15April 23, 2018 1:01 AM

R15 if she was speaking in her native french, maybe something got lost in translation

by Anonymousreply 16April 23, 2018 1:02 AM

She's an English speaker from English Canada (Timmins, Ontario), she's not Celine Dion. What she was trying to say was she might have voted for him at the time because crude as he was he seemed like a straight shooter. She realized it was a hasty answer to an unexpected question that she probably should have declined to answer for a lot of good reasons.

Settle down. She's not Roger Stone. Pick your fucking battles.

by Anonymousreply 17April 23, 2018 1:05 AM

None of the Canadians I know had a hard time seeing Trump was a con man and Hilary was the only sane choices.

by Anonymousreply 18April 23, 2018 1:06 AM

[quote] She's an English speaker from English Canada (Timmins, Ontario),

by Anonymousreply 19April 23, 2018 1:08 AM

oh ffs

by Anonymousreply 20April 23, 2018 1:08 AM

R18, yeah, you fucking riptard, but do you actually think the whole country is fluently bilingual?

by Anonymousreply 21April 23, 2018 1:09 AM

[quote] None of the Canadians I know had a hard time seeing Trump was a con man and Hilary was the only sane choices.

Tell that to Doug Ford

by Anonymousreply 22April 23, 2018 1:09 AM

Timmins isn't a French town, R19. Jeez.

by Anonymousreply 23April 23, 2018 1:09 AM

R21 how do you know Shania doesn't speak french?

by Anonymousreply 24April 23, 2018 1:10 AM

R23 french is a required subject in high school

by Anonymousreply 25April 23, 2018 1:10 AM

Shania never seemed very smart or well-informed

by Anonymousreply 26April 23, 2018 1:13 AM

She's not a native French speaker. Why would she have problems being understood in English?

by Anonymousreply 27April 23, 2018 1:13 AM

Has she learned nothing about neutrality by living in Switzerland?

by Anonymousreply 28April 23, 2018 1:15 AM

She was born in the mid 1960s and learned French after the birth of her child.... in 2001. It's safe to say English isn't her first language.

But I suppose it makes perfect sense she sat down to do an interview with The Guardian, an English newspaper, and did the interview in French because.

by Anonymousreply 29April 23, 2018 1:15 AM

She's fluent in retard.

by Anonymousreply 30April 23, 2018 1:16 AM

The "Canada is bilingual so Shania must have been speaking in French" troll is honestly the dumbest thing I've seen on DL in a long time.

by Anonymousreply 31April 23, 2018 1:16 AM

Eileen has a long shady history. She is not very bright but she knows how to lie. In English. Most of her backstory is a fabrication. She hasn't many friends in Northern Ontario. no sir.

by Anonymousreply 32April 23, 2018 1:17 AM

Look, R25, R24, you fucking idiot troll. Timmins is not a French town. The majority of people there speak English as a first language. Shania speaks English as a first language. I have no idea whether or not she took French in school. There would be no reason as to why she would be giving a French language interview to a British newspaper. Please go away or come up with a new angle to try and defend her.

by Anonymousreply 33April 23, 2018 1:17 AM

[quote]The "Canada is bilingual so Shania must have been speaking in French" troll is honestly the dumbest thing I've seen on DL in a long time.

I'm so hoping I got trolled because otherwise the stupidest person on earth is posting here. Scientists should be informed.

by Anonymousreply 34April 23, 2018 1:18 AM

R31 are you disputing the fact Canada is not a Bilingual country?

by Anonymousreply 35April 23, 2018 1:18 AM

It is not a fact that Canada is not a bilingual country.

by Anonymousreply 36April 23, 2018 1:19 AM

[quote] I have no idea whether or not she took French in school.

French is a required subject in all schools in Canada

by Anonymousreply 37April 23, 2018 1:19 AM

by Anonymousreply 38April 23, 2018 1:20 AM

[quote] It is not a fact that Canada is not a bilingual country.

So you are saying French is NOT Canada official language?

by Anonymousreply 39April 23, 2018 1:20 AM

Canada is officially French, English bilingual. Do you have any idea as to what that means, you stupid idiot, R39?

by Anonymousreply 40April 23, 2018 1:21 AM

R40 tell that to R36

by Anonymousreply 41April 23, 2018 1:22 AM

Give it up, apologist idiot @R35. Shania Twain is from Timmins, ON, where the number of native French speakers is probably 0.01% or something like that. Given that her education is marginal at best, I highly doubt she speaks that much French at all.

BTW, teh only province that is bilingual is New Brunswick. Quebec is largely French, outside Montreal and the rest is solidly Anglophone.

by Anonymousreply 42April 23, 2018 1:22 AM

R42 there are pockets of Alberta that is 100% francophone

In addition some Native reservations (which Shania is a band member of one) are bilingual as well.

by Anonymousreply 43April 23, 2018 1:24 AM

Read your post at R35, R39.

You're not even making grammatical sense. Your error is obvious to any able to tie their own shoe laces.

by Anonymousreply 44April 23, 2018 1:25 AM

To hell with this cunt.

by Anonymousreply 45April 23, 2018 1:25 AM

Clutching at straws much, R43? Give it a rest - she's exposed herself as an ignorant, bigoted idiot.

by Anonymousreply 46April 23, 2018 1:26 AM

People on this thread are trying to downplay the mosaic of francophone culture in Canada. Must be Conservative supporters.

by Anonymousreply 47April 23, 2018 1:30 AM

Meanwhile, the Widow Angélil refused to perform at Trump's inauguration soiree. Made me love her even more.

"Las Vegas hotelier Steve Wynn, a longtime friend of Trump’s who has worked with Dion before, reportedly promised to secure the singer for the big day. Alas, he’ll have to say au revoir to that idea—the Canadian chanteuse isn’t doing it."

by Anonymousreply 48April 23, 2018 1:30 AM

Yeah, also Manitoba has a French speaking population too, R42 and must provide provincial government services in both English and French.

Not that it matters, Shania is not a French Canadian.

by Anonymousreply 49April 23, 2018 1:30 AM

She should make a big donation to an LGBT charity to prove that she’s not a deplorable

by Anonymousreply 50April 23, 2018 1:31 AM

[quote] Shania is not a French Canadian.

But she was in french immersion

by Anonymousreply 51April 23, 2018 1:31 AM

Manitoba also has Icelandic speaking population. Doesn't make it any more relevant to the essence of the story.

by Anonymousreply 52April 23, 2018 1:32 AM

What fucking difference does it make, R51? So fucking what? She gave an interview in English, to a British newspaper. There were no translation issues or language barriers.

by Anonymousreply 53April 23, 2018 1:36 AM

R53 you don't know that for a fact,

by Anonymousreply 54April 23, 2018 1:37 AM

Man! I Feel Like a Moron

by Anonymousreply 55April 23, 2018 1:39 AM

OK, you're right, "Canada is a bilingual country" troll. I believe it's all an error. She gave the interview in Farsi, a language she just began studying last week. That explains the mix up.

Doesn't explain why she's apologized though.

by Anonymousreply 56April 23, 2018 1:39 AM

[quote] a language she just began studying last week.

Google the words "French Immersion" in schools

by Anonymousreply 57April 23, 2018 1:41 AM

What does French Immersion have to do with anything, R57?

I know good and god damned well what French Immersion is, btw.

by Anonymousreply 58April 23, 2018 1:42 AM

I seriously doubt her words were mistranslated. But be aware Northern Ontario is far from exclusively Anglo. About 35% of Timmins have French as their first language, same for about 25% of nearby Sudbury residents.

by Anonymousreply 59April 23, 2018 1:46 AM

I believe the problem is she gave the interview in English, but in her head she was thinking in French and in iambic pentameter... something was bound to go wrong.

by Anonymousreply 60April 23, 2018 1:50 AM

^ LOL.

Whatever she was speaking, she is now engaged in damage control.

by Anonymousreply 61April 23, 2018 1:53 AM

A simple Google search proves that she did not attend French Immersion, you idiot "Canada is bilingual country" troll.

by Anonymousreply 62April 23, 2018 1:54 AM

Iambic pentameter is what the Illuminati use hypnotize Christians into being pedophiles.

by Anonymousreply 63April 23, 2018 1:55 AM

Obviously, the big D is trolling here, trying to wave a shiny object to draw the imbecile's attention away from the real issue.

by Anonymousreply 64April 23, 2018 1:56 AM

Va te faire enculer, connasse.

by Anonymousreply 65April 23, 2018 1:57 AM

Eh! (Canadian!) Shania is yesterday’s news, and if she doesn’t have the good sense to know to hide her admiration for King Kumquat, however ill-considered, then let the bitch reap what she sows!

by Anonymousreply 66April 23, 2018 1:58 AM

Merde!

by Anonymousreply 67April 23, 2018 1:59 AM

Didn’t Shania spend some quality time in Alaska? She may be a Palin fan.

by Anonymousreply 68April 23, 2018 2:00 AM

[quote]Va te faire enculer, connasse.

"Go fuck yourself, bitch" sounds so much classier in French.

Thanks, Google Translate!

by Anonymousreply 69April 23, 2018 2:01 AM

Tabarnack!!

by Anonymousreply 70April 23, 2018 2:05 AM

Too late bitch!

by Anonymousreply 71April 23, 2018 2:06 AM

No one should attack or denigrate her because it makes her look like a victim; that doesn't mean you can't be critical of her. I went from indifferent to her to now disliking her because it's obvious she's a selfish person who lacks empathy.

by Anonymousreply 72April 23, 2018 2:07 AM

[quote]She should make a big donation to an LGBT charity to prove that she’s not a deplorable

It would look like extortion. If she didn't do it before on her own as an altruistic person, then no one should want her money now which would scream "pressured into it."

by Anonymousreply 73April 23, 2018 2:10 AM

Can we just accept that she’s a native English speaker?

She can clearly speak and understand English regardless of any other languages she may know.

She gave this interview in English and there were no translation issues.

That being said, she is not an American citizen, and she does not live in the United States.

Therefore, whoever asked her opinion about American politics is a stupid person, and got an equally stupid response from her.

by Anonymousreply 74April 23, 2018 2:11 AM

R74, the person who asked did a good job because look how it spread like a wild fire.

by Anonymousreply 75April 23, 2018 2:16 AM

What else would you expect from a country singer?

by Anonymousreply 76April 23, 2018 2:24 AM

Her name is in the headlines and she didn’t have to spend a dime or lift a finger!

by Anonymousreply 77April 23, 2018 2:25 AM

R76, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw are big Democrats... so it’s not clear what you would expect from a country singer.

by Anonymousreply 78April 23, 2018 2:29 AM

I think the real news here is that she’s a COUNTRY singer who has had to apologize for supporting Trump.

by Anonymousreply 79April 23, 2018 2:29 AM

When I saw how many replies this thread had, I really did not think most of it would be taken up with a language debate. Lol.

by Anonymousreply 80April 23, 2018 2:44 AM

I suspect that, living in Switzerland all these years, she just has no clue about how most Americans feel about Trump and doesn't keep up with his corruption, his disgusting Twitter feed, his right-wing policies, etc. She's just not invested in it at all.

by Anonymousreply 81April 23, 2018 3:00 AM

It's not a battle, r17. It takes almost no time out of my life to make sure her vapid 90s songs are off my playlists.

by Anonymousreply 82April 23, 2018 3:00 AM

She is bilingual now, but was not when she lived in Timmins.

by Anonymousreply 83April 23, 2018 3:01 AM

It's really hard for people to stick to their principles when society around them is getting angrier and more conservative. It's got to be worse for spoiled rich brats who are sheltered and too dumb to just answer "I'm not American and not up on politics, so no comment."

Also, no one should expect some country pop tart to really mean it when she sings a "feminist anthem."

by Anonymousreply 84April 23, 2018 3:03 AM

Why didn't see say something like,

"I'm not American nor living in the United States, So I'm not informed enough to have an opinion."

Because she's dumb.

by Anonymousreply 85April 23, 2018 3:19 AM

[quote]The "Canada is bilingual so Shania must have been speaking in French" troll is honestly the dumbest thing I've seen on DL in a long time.

Yeah, it was a bizarre subject to bring up.

Shania is an Anglophone and speaks English, and she obviously would have been speaking English to a British newspaper.

So there was no French translation issue.

And although Canada has 2 languages, only a minority of Canadians are fluent in both.

For example, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is fluent in both languages. And so are some of the other Members of Parliament. But most Canadians are not.

by Anonymousreply 86April 23, 2018 5:53 AM

OK, this is a parody account, but it's brilliant.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 87April 23, 2018 5:56 AM

More native French speakers are fluent in English than the other way around, but Canada is a bilingual country. This has nothing to do with Shania Twain who went to school in the dive bars of the north. Plenty of French speakers up Timmins way though.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 88April 23, 2018 6:04 AM

R40 you’re engaging a troll who is trying to get people worked up for his/her enjoyment. And it’s a successful troll at that given how many people are talking about this French bs.

by Anonymousreply 89April 23, 2018 6:31 AM

Look at the way she worded her "apology" and her absolute avoidance in the word "Trump".

- "I do not hold any common moral beliefs with the current President". Um, why not say "I do not hold any common moral beliefs with TRUMP"??? - “My answer was awkward, but certainly should not be taken as representative of my values nor does it mean I endorse him.” Um, "him" should be replaced with "TRUMP". In fact that whole statement comes across like "maybe I do, maybe I don't support TRUMP". She could have easily been more straightforward herself and said "I don't endorse TRUMP, and I don't share any of TRUMP's moral views" - Telling us that is should be "clear" to US that we're misinterpreting her (dumping the blame on us for her stupid comments) because of an even more vague statement about the "choices" she's made and the "people" she's stood with.

Bitch please. She's trying too hard to have her cake with this and eat it too.

by Anonymousreply 90April 23, 2018 6:45 AM

Will some other story bury the Shania/Trump story? Or will this embarrassing debacle linger and do real damage to what’s left of her career in the US?

by Anonymousreply 91April 23, 2018 12:33 PM

Bump for the apology

by Anonymousreply 92April 23, 2018 3:59 PM

I forgive Shania.

by Anonymousreply 93April 24, 2018 3:25 AM

Shania Who?

by Anonymousreply 94April 24, 2018 3:49 AM

Poor little backwoods Eileen Twain. Such an emotional singer....

She did have a nice (mono) tone to her v e r y limited voice at one time. Not any more, her lil one octave range was destroyed by ticks and fleas and mutt. Now no one wants to watch her lip sync for $39! I forgive a lot of people but not chicks who can't sing having the best selling lady album of all time. She can perform at Trump's 2020 inaugural. Some people don't know when to quit.
