[bold]N.Y. Times' Harvey Weinstein Story to Become Movie From Annapurna, Plan B[/bold]
Plan B, the Brad Pitt-headlined production company behind Oscar winners 12 Years a Slave and Moonlight, and Annapurna, Megan Ellison’s media banner that made Detroit and Phantom Thread, have teamed to pick up the screen rights from the reporters and The New York Times.
While there is no writer or filmmaker on board, Plan B and Annapurna are not aiming to tell the tale of Weinstein or his purported crimes, but rather how the reporters faced down threats and intimidation to push through with one of the most important stories of the decade. Movies such as All the President’s Men and Spotlight are the touchstones for the project.
I'm thinking they'll write Ronan out completely as it looks better if it's just two women taking down Weinstein.

by Anonymous | reply 55 | May 2, 2018 6:15 PM |
Based on OP's video, is Farrow really smarter though? The fact that he skipped the last 7 or so years of school to go to college so early can be a sign of 2 things. One option is that he's an Einstein-level prodigy and at age 11 he completed ALL mandatory natural & social science subjects for the entire modern HS curriculum, without exception: math, chemistry, physics, foreign languages, etc. I find that very hard to believe - because it would imply that he somehow managed to squeeze 12 years of school into just ca. 5 years, with good grades too. Even Einstein would struggle to achieve that.
The other option is that the general level of school education & national curriculum has become so subpar and over-simplified that generally bright, motivated students can just skip the last few years of school entirely, since they don't teach enough.
I'd wager it's the latter option.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | May 2, 2018 6:27 PM |
His intellect is greatly exaggerated .
by Anonymous | reply 57 | May 2, 2018 6:33 PM |
Ronan attended Bard College at Simon's Rock, which is basically a prep school for academically precocious/gifted children who are way too young and socially immature for a real college environment, not matter how advanced their intelligence. I know of two kids who went to Simon's Rock at about the same age Ronan started--there simply wasn't another academic environment for them; they were fish out of water in public and even the best private schools (socially awkward and frankly, weird) and their academic needs couldn't be met there.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | May 2, 2018 6:36 PM |
So really it wasn't a question of "skipping" grades or missing essential curricula. This school covers all that plus college level academics. Ronan got out of there at --what? 16?--with enough credits for a college degree, and then took some gap time before starting law school--a smart move for the same reason Simon's Rock is a smart choice. It gave him time to mature socially.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | May 2, 2018 6:40 PM |
Even though Frank Sinatra’ was not “gay friendly”, I think he’d be proud of his boy.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | May 2, 2018 6:54 PM |
This school covers all that plus college level academics.
R59, from a cursory look at Bard College's website & program descriptions, it doesn't seem it covers all that. High school generally has mandatory subjects (to ensure that graduates have at least a base level of proficiency in all required subjects). But Bard seems to allow an easier approach, college-style: you can choose your favored concentration (e.g. Literature) and e.g. mostly skip natural sciences or moderate them down (so that even if you're bad at e.g. HS math, it won't affect your overall GPA too much) .
"Undergraduate students can earn a bachelor of arts degree in one of approximately 35 stand-alone programs in the following academic divisions: The Arts; Languages and Literature; Science, Mathematics, and Computing; Social Studies; and Interdivisional Programs and Concentrations. [bold]They may moderate into a concentration, or cluster of related courses, in conjunction with moderation into a program.[/bold]"
by Anonymous | reply 61 | May 2, 2018 7:10 PM |
You are looking at the wrong website, r61. Bard College is not the same as Bard College at Simon's Rock. The former is a standard liberal arts college. Google the latter and you will see that they offer something tailored to particular gifted children.

by Anonymous | reply 65 | May 2, 2018 8:39 PM |
From the official website of Bard College at Simon's Rock: “Early college at Simon’s Rock … We’re the only full-time, 4-year, highly ranked college of the liberal arts and sciences designed for motivated students ready for college after the 10th or 11th grade.”
"Our students typically enter Simon’s Rock after finishing 10th or 11th grade, [bold]which means that they skip the last year or two of high school and arrive at Simon’s Rock without diplomas[/bold]. They make a deliberate break from the standard academic track to dive straight into college at an age when most of their peers are just heading into their junior or senior years of high school. But
Simon’s Rock is not some kind of “halfway” college or an unconventional prep school.
It’s a rigorous 4-year institution."
R62, so basically for the first 2 years (out of 4) Bard College at Simon’s Rock is not, in practice, a "college" as in higher / tertiary education, but rather a "college" as in secondary education / high school. During the first 2 years they cover the 2 HS grades they skipped – i.e. HS grades 11 and 12, and get their HS diploma. Then the last 2 years are actual college (higher education). So they graduate with a nominal 'Bachelor’s degree’, but based on merely 2 years of college-style higher education.
But, reportedly, Farrow went into Simon’s Rock aged just 11 (i.e. probably transferring there from Grade 6 of middle school – not from grade 10 or 11 of high school, as is usual for Simon's Rock). So, what, he crammed the final 6 long years of HS curriculum into just 2 quick years at Simon’s Rock?
Again, that means that he’s either prodigy-level clever – or that the curriculum is too easy in general. My bet is on the latter. Having experienced an Asian high school, I can say that it would be excruciatingly difficult to cram 6 years of Asian-level HS math (and other subjects) into just 2 years.

I'm not r66 but I will admit to being somewhat envious.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | May 2, 2018 8:52 PM |
You sound both, r68. I think the guy is scary-smart /high achieving on any scale. I also think you're not bothering to understand what this school offers and why. Kids who are that kind of smart frequently have associated social issues (or are "on the spectrum") that make learning in a standard academic environment difficult. I think that's particularly true if the parents have emphasized to the kid how smart s/he is and hasn't made a huge effort to provide some balance in his or her life. Simon's Rock is a place that nurtures kids like this.
Here's the thing with Ronan, though. Frequently, kids finish at Simon's Rock and matriculate in a standard-issue college, even if only for a year or two. And if they do that they have to go through the standard admissions process. Ronan went directly to law school, where they don't look at essays or admissions interviews; they look at the undergraduate record and the LSATs. Ronan may be book smart and a good test-taker, which isn't necessarily the same thing as having intelligence and analytic ability. Nevertheless, he stayed the course there, so he's certainly academically competent.
That said, he seems incredibly smug to me and I'm not much of a fan.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | May 2, 2018 8:59 PM |
And you're completely missing the point, R70. I was making social commentary on the state of the national education curriculum (if a kid, even a clever one like Farrow, can condense ca. 6 years of it into just 2 - that's actually not a good sign). The standard curriculum is too easy and lax - which is why many graduate HS having only a vague understanding of spelling, geography, math and foreign language skills.
And all you do is defend that one special school, due to some miscommunication. There's nothing wrong with that school per se. But the point is the admittedly clever kids that go there wouldn't perhaps be considered 'prodigies' if the overall bar for HS education wasn't set so low. It's a social problem. E.g. in a European school, it's quite possible those kids would simply be considered good or above average, provided the general bar for pre-university education is higher.
There's also no need to feed the myth that high-achievers tend to be "on the spectrum". Most students outside of the US start law school at age 17-18, similar to Ronan. And many do two HS degrees simultaneously (a national HS diploma in a local language + an international diploma in English (e.g. International Baccalaureate)). I wouldn't say the people I know who went down that academically demanding route were "frequently on the spectrum". They were considered clever, but socially normal.

Autistics are mostly retarded r71
by Anonymous | reply 72 | May 2, 2018 9:44 PM |
I "defended" the school (in which I have no interest, nor do I have much interest in Farrow) only to try to correct your apparent misunderstanding of what's going on here. If you want to cling to your willful ignorance, knock yourself out.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | May 2, 2018 9:48 PM |
If you're trying to correct anything, you're doing a poor job, R73. You implied that kids similar to Farrow who go to 'early college schools' frequently have social issues or are on the spectrum, and need some kind of protective environment. I'm not familiar with Farrow's mental health history. But by that strange logic, everyone abroad who over-excels in HS or goes to law school straight out of HS is "on the spectrum" too. Well, thanks for the warning.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | May 2, 2018 10:06 PM |
Not remotely what I said. Believe what you like.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | May 2, 2018 10:16 PM |
what this school offers and why. Kids who are that kind of smart frequently have associated social issues (or are "on the spectrum") that make learning in a standard academic environment difficult ... Simon's Rock is a place that nurtures kids like this.
Pfft, R75. From your quote above, apparently kids that are simply good at learning are prone to "social issues" or autism. Nice to know.
