Post some of your personal favorite songs by them here.
It would be so much easier to list the songs which don't make the cut. "Revival" would top that list, followed by 2/3 of their "Peace" album. Everything else is pure angst-y joy.

Couldn't you have found a better picture OP? There are so many of them....
That one is fucking awful.
This would have been much more iconic and representative of Eurythmics:

Here you go OP.
Some kindly soul on DL posted this years ago and it has become one of my favorites. Annie is mesmerizing.

The entire album "Savage" (1987) is an unsung masterpiece, but this is a personal favourite:
by Anonymous | reply 9 | April 21, 2018 1:14 PM |
Sex Crime - one of my favorites of theirs.
How I wish I'd been unborn...
by Anonymous | reply 13 | April 21, 2018 1:43 PM |
This is probably a more boring, pop choice, but I really liked "Would I Lie to You?" when it came out.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | April 21, 2018 1:50 PM |
r11, that's the most stupid assed song I've ever heard.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | April 21, 2018 3:40 PM |
Would I Lie to You is my favorite as well. Love the video as well.
I don't think it would be considered pop, R15. There are some heavy, old school R&B influences in that song.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | April 21, 2018 3:49 PM |
I loved their work on 1984 but this is the song that stands out for me
by Anonymous | reply 20 | April 22, 2018 2:08 PM |
Touch and Savage are absolute masterpieces, first note to last.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | April 22, 2018 2:16 PM |
I never realized until recently that Annie's solo "Why?" was about her complicated history with David Stewart.
"You don't know how I feel!"
by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 22, 2018 2:21 PM |
I never actively disliked them, but I never bought any of their albums, either. They were part of the Great Disposable Pop era known as the 1980s. Their ubiquity rendered them unnecessary as a purchase.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | April 22, 2018 2:27 PM |
I thought they were tremendous. I had several albums. I can't currently think of a song I didn't like but one of my favorite's not mention yet was

[quote]They were part of the Great Disposable Pop era known as the 1980s.
I thought they were talented, but I do have 80's flashbacks to high school watching videos when I hear Sweet Dreams. Actually, I think a number of the pop groups from that time had talent and a number of the songs have held up. The ones that didn't seem really dated now, but that is probably true of any era/decade and its pop music.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | April 22, 2018 2:44 PM |
I think they were more interesting and subversive than other pop acts of that era. Their chilliness and androgyny was tonic to the extremely hetero, teen mentality bubblegum pop and hair metal of the ‘80s. Annie my my first gay icon and still my favorite.
“It’s Alright (Baby’s Coming Back)” is probably my very favorite, but the entire 1984 album is underrated.

"Seventeen Again" is on the November 1999 GAP In-Store Playlist.
It's a beautiful and melancholic song.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | April 22, 2018 3:02 PM |
I thought they contributed a sensitive pulse and energy to the 1980s pop music and culture scene, in the iconic vein that Simon & Garfunkel did for the 1960s. The 1980s music scene was a treasure trove of intelligent creativity, and The Eurythmics were at the center of that, in IMO.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | April 22, 2018 3:06 PM |
and since I love this one so much this live version is....mesmerizing.

"Right By Your Side" is on the June 1997 GAP In-Store Playlist.

Is the guy in r39 famous? If not, why not? He looks like a cross between Keanu and Chrises Klein and Evans.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | April 22, 2018 3:19 PM |
I think he was just a generic Gap model. In 1997, we also had future Christ portrayer Jim Caviezel as a Gap model.

Their version of "Winter Wonderland" has been on many, many GAP Holiday Playlists, including December 1992, December 1998, December 2001 and several more!

I remember reading that Annie was pregnant but the baby died in her womb. She had to carry it for quite some time knowing it's already dead. When she delivered the baby she wanted to hold it in her arms for one night, and the hospital let her do it.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | April 22, 2018 3:40 PM |
R49 Eww
by Anonymous | reply 50 | April 22, 2018 3:42 PM |
An alternate edit (not this one) of the 1988 video for "Put A Little Love In Your Heart" had a few shots of Annie very pregnant with that child (obviously before it was dead or she knew it was dead). Those shots were edited out later.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | April 22, 2018 3:45 PM |
R53, that is a shitty song.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | April 22, 2018 3:49 PM |
R54 your opinion, I didn’t say it was their best
by Anonymous | reply 55 | April 22, 2018 3:53 PM |
R34, she’s not gay. She was the first (and really only) female singer I worshipped the way that other gays love Barbra or Judy or Cher or Madonna or Ga, etc etc.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | April 22, 2018 4:01 PM |
I don't know that it is, R26. I believe it is Dave who said that the song is about him, as in, years later I was still that important to her she wrote one of her best songs about me. This was never confirmed by Annie.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | April 22, 2018 4:12 PM |
The Tourists' cover of "I Only Wanna Be With You" is on the February 1998 GAP In-Store Playlist.

This is an INCREDIBLE deep cut that should’ve been a radio hit.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | April 22, 2018 5:30 PM |
Curve was a ‘90s shoegaze group and my favorite band ever. Eurythmics is my second faborite band ever. They shared a musician, Dean Garcia; he played bass guitar with Dave and Annie and founded Curve with Toni Halliday. Which makes Dean Garvia my very favorite musician by default, I guess.

Annie Lennox has one of those rare symmetrical faces. You can see it in this very early photo.

by Anonymous | reply 69 | April 24, 2018 10:28 PM |
I was a fan of Savage as well. The videos were brilliant. I wish they'd done more stuff in that vein, but they only made one more (relatively disappointing) LP before breaking up.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | April 24, 2018 10:43 PM |
R68- I had the cassette single to that amazing song. It was the b-side to Little Bird. That song may be my favorite of Annie’s of all time.

Annie is above most (if not all) of today's female singers: she's gifted with an amazing, crystalline voice; she has a powerful stage presence; she's elegant and classy; and her repertoire is filled with gems like this. Unfortunately, people these days seem to settle with the lowest common denominator. (*sighs*)
P.S.: Am I the only one to believe that, in an alternative universe, Annie is Bowie's youngest sister?
by Anonymous | reply 73 | April 25, 2018 12:34 PM |
Well, let's be real - Annie's voice is a bit worn these days, but yes, in her day she was truly amazing.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | April 26, 2018 12:30 AM |
"No Fear, No Hate, No Pain (No Broken Hearts)"
I love the way Annie manages to infuse cold futurism with human soul. Just listen to the first minute or so... Into this robotic minor-key riff suddenly comes this plaintive, heartwrenching, "Oooooo..." Gets me every time.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | April 26, 2018 12:51 AM |
I love that one, R77. It's a great little video. Is the song about her first daughter?
by Anonymous | reply 78 | April 26, 2018 3:38 AM |
Technically not the Eurythimics, but I like this one as well. She did do some good videos.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | April 26, 2018 3:47 AM |
I like this live performance of WHY where Annie grows more upset at whomever she's thinking while singing the song. You don't want to cross this lady.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | April 26, 2018 3:54 AM |
Savage is Annie at her most devastatingly raw.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | April 26, 2018 3:54 AM |
I actually saw Eurythmics at Magic Mountain (CA) summer of 1983 when they were still one hit wonders with Sweet Dreams. The park was open all night and it was called Party With No Sleep. I was 23 at the time; the perfect age for a night like that.

'Jennifer' is an excellent Eurythmics song from their first album.
