Nearly 50 percent all millennials were unable to identify any one of more than 40,000 concentration camps or ghettos used by Nazi Germany — and 66 percent were unable to identify Auschwitz.
History is not emphasized and the survivors and veterans are dying off.

Doesn't that just speak to the poor American education system though OP?

Why not worry about the genocide of Palestinians or whites in Africa.

What kind of troll would start such a thread?

I have to respectfully disagree. When I was in high school, as our history classes progressed towards the modern era, our teachers became less and less willing to discuss issues in depth and were very cognizant that history and politics are so closely intertwined that any discussion of events post-1900 or was fraught with risk. I had one teacher who flat out refused to cover anything past the lead-up to World War I. And yes, I'm old, but this was in the 1980s... only 40 years after the end of the war.
It hardly seemed possible that political concerns could impact something as basic as World War II, but fast forward to the election of Trump with his support from openly racist alt-right Nazis, and you can see why. Still, sad. Maybe if more history teachers were less afraid to talk about the atrocities committed by the Nazis, there wouldn't be such an opportunity for the racists and bigots to gain a foothold.

40,000 concentration camps to kill 6m Jews doesn't seem very efficient. Each only killed 150 Jews? Starvation and disease could do that.

R5, we never talk about the ongoing Holocaust being perpetrated against the Palestinians, not in class, not in the media, not anywhere. Yet since late last month Israel has wounded more than 2860 unarmed Palestinians. Israel shot and killed 30, including a clearly marked member of the press.
This Holocaust is happening now, perpetrated against people, the Palestinians, who had nothing to do with the Jewish Holocaust, and the world turns a blind eye, because Israel uses the Jewish Holocaust as a weapon to shut down all criticism of her own horrific actions.
R7 - there you go - equating just criticism of Israel to a blanket hatred of Jews. There are many Jews who are critical of Israel, and many people who will no longer be silenced by the word "anti-Semite" when it's used indiscriminately on any critic of Israel's actions.

Wait, ignorance of the holocaust brought on by our shockingly incompetent educational system makes a person a “Nazi?”

Why the fuck does the name of a European concentration camp matter? The better question is do they know about the Holocaust and WWII? The answer is yes. Everyone knows about the Holocaust, there is a movie out almost every other year about WWII for the lazy. It always features a Protestant squad leader, loud mouth Italian, hot Irish boy, and a Jew.
If you think the Nazi movement is big in America check out European countries with large Middle East immigrants. Young whites are fed up and the far right movement continues to grow.

I graduated from HS in 1996. We studied everything up until 1945, then a few years after... The 30 years that followed were a big mush, that we did study, but not as in-depth as we did WWI and WWII. The 1970s and 1980s weren't studied at all, that was it.
