CAN YOU EVER FORGIVE ME? - released this fall.

Do you think it looks interesting/promising?

Odd seeing Julius's bar in the trailer.

Lots of gays, clearly - the bookseller (at the very beginning of the trailer) is a DL meangurl come to life.

[quote]The true story of bestselling celebrity biographer (and friend to cats) Lee Israel (Melissa McCarthy), who made her living in the 1970s and '80s profiling the likes of Katherine Hepburn, Tallulah Bankhead, Estee Lauder and journalist Dorothy Kilgallen. When Lee is no longer able to get published because she has fallen out of step with current tastes, she turns her art form to deception, abetted by her loyal friend Jack.

It's hard to imagine a movie where they have to make Melissa McCarthy even less attractive than she is in real life.

by Anonymousreply 3April 5, 2018 1:04 AM

I read the book after reading Lee Israel's biography of Dorothy Kilgallen. Fascinating — she was a braggadocious sociopath.

by Anonymousreply 4April 5, 2018 1:08 AM

Is this a Muriel biopic?

by Anonymousreply 5April 5, 2018 1:12 AM

There seem to be few interviews with her.

When I google it I keep getting Kathy Lee Gifford and her trip to Israel.

But there's this >>

It looks ok, but I feel like I’ve seen the whole movie or at least know what they’re going to cover.

I guess they are trying to generate interest. I’m going to google her.

Melissa is the new Kathy Bates

by Anonymousreply 11April 5, 2018 2:08 AM

The real Lee Israel was worth 17 million at the time of her death.

by Anonymousreply 12April 5, 2018 2:58 AM

I find that hard to believe R12 considering she was just a copy editor in her later life.

by Anonymousreply 13April 25, 2018 6:54 PM

Nobody likes it when a slapstick comedian does drama.

by Anonymousreply 14April 25, 2018 7:02 PM

by Anonymousreply 16April 25, 2018 7:45 PM

When did trailers become abridged versions of the entire movie? I'm interested in seeing this, but the trailer gives away the whole plot.

by Anonymousreply 17April 26, 2018 12:52 AM

17 Million? I knew Lee Israel and I doubt it.

What does DataLounge think? It looks good to me, but I haven’t seen it yet.

by Anonymousreply 20November 9, 2018 10:53 PM

I saw it today and enjoyed it. Whoever above said Richard E. Grant "can't," can fuck right off. He was great in the role of Lee's co-drunk, slightly idiotic pal.

Melissa played Lee as someone you really want to like but can't, because she's so awful to everyone. However they gave her something of a conscience in the movie, as she looked sorry about some of the people she was conning. I don't know if she cared about who she hurt IRL, though. I knew nothing about her until today.

by Anonymousreply 21November 9, 2018 11:04 PM

98% on Rotten Tomatoes, sounds like she deserves an Oscar nom.

by Anonymousreply 22November 9, 2018 11:27 PM

Melissa McCarthy and Richard E Grant were well cast in this film; very engaging story and plenty of unexpected dark humor!

R18 I hope you will tell us more!

by Anonymousreply 23November 11, 2018 7:03 AM

Also, I read that Julianne Moore was originally cast as Lee Israel but obviously backed out. So glad she did; Melissa McCarthy did such a great job.

by Anonymousreply 24November 11, 2018 7:08 AM

Saw it today and it was great. Darkly funny. McCarthy and Grant and screenplay all deserve nominations.

by Anonymousreply 31November 11, 2018 1:17 PM

Saw it today and loved it. Melissa and Richard are equally fantastic. Good storyline and a poignant valentine to a vanishing NYC (public phones, non-chain coffee shops, great bookstores).

by Anonymousreply 32November 11, 2018 10:09 PM

Sounds great, R32.

by Anonymousreply 33November 11, 2018 10:17 PM

I saw the movie last weekend and loved it. I agree that both Melissa McCarthy and Richard Grand are excellent. Kudos also to Jane Curtain, whom I didn't recognize at first.

by Anonymousreply 34November 14, 2018 3:09 PM

I enjoyed it, also. I read that the real Lee Israel did not experience any remorse for her crimes and considered her writing to be on par with that of the writers she plagiarized, but the movie itself is a charmer. And yes, the Manhattan of the era is definitely a character in the movie. I actually had to go for a drink at a dive bar I know after seeing it.

by Anonymousreply 35November 14, 2018 3:18 PM

Which era is it set in?

by Anonymousreply 36November 14, 2018 5:03 PM

R36, the movie takes place in late 80s/early 90s.

by Anonymousreply 37November 14, 2018 9:07 PM

Just saw it -- best movie I've seen this year, so far.

It's all top-drawer: the script, the acting, the production design, the soundtrack...

by Anonymousreply 43November 23, 2018 9:35 PM

by Anonymousreply 44November 23, 2018 9:59 PM

Thanks for the reviews DL. Can't wait to see it. And whoever said McCarthy is the new Kathy Bates is spot on. I can so picture her (younger) in this role.

by Anonymousreply 45November 23, 2018 11:17 PM

McCarthy really should get an Oscar nomination for this. She makes a completely obnoxious character someone we can sympathize with and understand.

by Anonymousreply 46November 23, 2018 11:22 PM

I urge you to see it sooner rather than later. Already it's only playing part of the show times in one theater in my town.

by Anonymousreply 47November 23, 2018 11:46 PM

R46 I like how they're showing the destructive nature of a creative itch not properly scratched and appreciated. Like people who are creative have to channel that spirit impulse into something constructive or it comes out in mischievous ways. It causes trouble for everyone. It's like an angry elf. Creativity is like an angry elf causing mischief if you don't keep it occupied.

by Anonymousreply 48November 23, 2018 11:55 PM

R48, you really got that? If a non-fiction writer is not allowed to be creative she will become a criminal?

Considering all the other possible takeaways, that is the one you picked out?

by Anonymousreply 49November 24, 2018 12:04 AM

R49 THAT's what you got from my comment at R48 ?

by Anonymousreply 50November 24, 2018 12:06 AM

Not *necessarily* criminal, R49. Jeez.

I’m glad this movie is so well received. There were so many assholes commenting on the Instagram ad for this a month ago, saying “Oh no, we’ve seen this lame bullshit before — taking a comedian and putting them in a dramatic role. It’s not going to work. Fail.” And then there were like 50 other comments that were variations on that. I was like, Really?! They haven’t even seen it yet!

I wish I could find that post, but it wasn’t a regular Instagram upload; it was a paid advertisement (a shortened version of the trailer) and I think those expire after a while. I would love to go back to it and BLAST those people for being so wrong.

by Anonymousreply 51November 24, 2018 2:06 AM

She's a great actor. This isn't like Shoomer performing in a dramatic role.

by Anonymousreply 52November 24, 2018 2:52 AM

R18 What was the real Lee Israel like?

by Anonymousreply 56December 3, 2018 1:47 PM

r56, I've read that she was not a very likable person and expressed no remorse for what she had done. Even though she has moments of irascibility in the movie, she's been softened up quite a bit.

by Anonymousreply 57December 3, 2018 1:59 PM

R47 is correct. It has practically disappeared in Boston area theaters, which is a shame because the movie is excellent and McCarthy and Grant are both outstanding. I urge you to see it if you can find it.

by Anonymousreply 58December 3, 2018 2:05 PM

Saw this today and i thought this would be the one movie her husband wouldn't show up in........i was wrong lol

by Anonymousreply 59December 11, 2018 1:30 PM

R59 Melissa was making some very questionable movies (some so bad they made me assume she had to pay off her mortgage quickly) but I think it's kind of sweet that she and her husband are close and work together... a lot.

by Anonymousreply 60December 11, 2018 1:35 PM

I loved the movie. Glad to see all the good reviews here.

Who does her husband play in the movie? I have no idea who he is.

Great production and costume design, Without being showy and obtrusive, it really captured NY in 1990.

I also loved the actress who played the book seller who befriended her. Such a lovely low-key performance. Her name is Dolly....something. Surprised to hear that she's British as the role could have been cast here, I guess.

by Anonymousreply 61December 11, 2018 1:41 PM

Tammy wasn't great and The Boss was terrible but i thought Life Of The Party was a slight improvement. Although i do agree with you that it's cute they work together so often. My favourite is her hitting on him in Bridesmaids.

by Anonymousreply 63December 11, 2018 1:49 PM

R61 Her name is Dorothy (Dolly) Wells and I agree that she was also very well cast. Love it that she played the part of Methuselah on an episode of The Mighty Boosh!

[quote][R18] What was the real Lee Israel like?

Two friends/colleagues of mine knew her at Scholastic (where she worked for a while when the judge told her to get a job as part of her sentencing agreement). One says Lee was a terrible person with no redeeming qualities; the other found her terrible, but entertaining and even a little endearing. Apparently, she would drink at work and then drunk dial coworkers and verbally abuse them. Eventually she was canned and escorted from the building after one such incident. She definitely was not worth 17 million when she died! And I do believe she was always proud of her letter forgeries (some of them were really good!) and never very repentant.

by Anonymousreply 66December 11, 2018 2:08 PM

Enjoyed it very much. It was great to see the sites of actual bookstores used in the film (East Village books, Argosy, etc) and references to Noel Coward and the like. It proves there is some sophistication left in the world--not everything has to be sacrificed to the giant maw of mainstream "entertainment."

by Anonymousreply 67December 11, 2018 2:12 PM

I love her name Lee Israel - especially the way Americans pronounce it Lee Iz- reeel.

(& don't say Americans don't pronounce it that way, because they DO).

by Anonymousreply 68December 11, 2018 2:15 PM

R68 how do you pronounce it?

by Anonymousreply 69December 11, 2018 2:57 PM

R66 Thank you; especially love the drunk dialing but that's unkind of me since was was indeed an alcoholic.

She had so many issues and flaws and I hated it that she wouldn't get help for her relationship issues and alcoholism but I at least she got some enjoyment out of her writing adventures until she got caught.

Has anyone read the book?

Estée Lauder was a great mogul, businesswoman and art patron. I'd read a book about her.

by Anonymousreply 89December 14, 2018 10:44 AM

Just about anybody's life can be made interesting with the right biographer.

I've read Israel's bios of Kilgallen and Bankhead. Interesting reads and held my attention. She was a decent writer.

by Anonymousreply 90December 14, 2018 10:50 AM

R86 apparently many, since Lauder's memoir (published around the same time as Israel's unauthorized book) sold fairly well. Also, in the ;80s there was a documentary made about her. Even in the late '90s, she made Time magazine's list of Top 20 Business Titans of the 20th Century. I fact, she was the sole woman on the list.

Just because she doesn't seem interesting to you now doesn't mean there wasn't an interest in her at some time.

by Anonymousreply 91December 14, 2018 10:55 AM

The story is that Israel was contracted to write a no-hold-barred bio of Lauder. Lauder was furious and tried to block it.

When she could not, she wrote her own quickie book which came out at the same time as Isreal's and buried it.

by Anonymousreply 117January 26, 2019 1:13 AM

^^Do not download for free. Support the continuation of the arts by supporting them, aka paying the price of admission. Do you want to live in a world where no one creates anything new, interesting, or exciting? I do not, but that is exactly where we're headed if this attitude that all expression should be free does not change.

by Anonymousreply 118January 26, 2019 1:26 AM

What if I paid once in the movies, should I pay again to watch it on TV?

by Anonymousreply 119January 26, 2019 1:28 AM

No, obviously. If it's being played on television or a an actual streaming service, then they are still being compensated. I'm talking about just shitty sites that allow free downloads of movies and music.

Honestly, I think this ties into the thread about stagnation of Hollywood and music. If you don't have large backers, your work will be stolen. We have more opportunity than ever to create new works independently, but at the same time the opportunity to destroy creativity through theft is rampant. I think that's a large part of why we're at a stalemate in most of the arts.

by Anonymousreply 120January 26, 2019 1:34 AM

^^ and yes, my response is part of the reason I'm interested in seeing this movie. It deals with this exact issue, but brought down to a much smaller and personal scale than what we are dealing with now.

by Anonymousreply 121January 26, 2019 1:38 AM

I loved this movie. Caught it at the Chicago Film Festival last October and could not stop thinking about it. It’s hysterical but also upsetting and gave me second-hand anxiety. Richard E Grant and Melissa McCarthy have phenomenal chemistry.

by Anonymousreply 122January 26, 2019 1:41 AM

Melissa McCarthy was great and I hope this leads to better roles for her. Richard E Grant was ok but didn't live up to the hype. I wish Jane Curtain had a larger role because I seriously think she would have been nominated for some awards. She really is wonderful and I kept waiting for her to come back. I'm shocked the judge didn't sentence her to jail time. This, The Wife and Green Book were my 3 favorite movies last year. Hated The Favourite.

The movie had potential but felt flat. Richard E. Grant gives an excellent performance. The movie starts to come alive whenever his character appears, but then Melissa McCarthy sucks all of the energy out of their scenes. She sleepwalks through the film with a permanent grimace. Not a terrible movie but unremarkable (much like everything else today).

i would gladly read a Fanny Brice biography, BTW

by Anonymousreply 134January 27, 2019 7:09 PM

Read THE FABULOUS FANNY by Norman Katkov, first and best of the bios.

by Anonymousreply 135January 27, 2019 7:55 PM

I must have checked that one out of the Newark Public Library 25 times in my salad days....

by Anonymousreply 136January 27, 2019 7:56 PM

thanks R135

I met her at Julius. A miserable nasty alcoholic. But a true Village character - which are fading fast. Between death from alcoholism and being priced out of the city, not many left. Glad I got to meet a few. Still a few characters left at Julius. But I have noticed the women alcoholics tend to die early. But some of the old gays are still hanging in there. Probably more health conscious - except for the alcohol.

by Anonymousreply 138January 27, 2019 8:32 PM

I really love this movie, I was fascinated from the first frame to the last. And I especially liked all the scenes at the Julius bar. The whole thing seems so damned real.

by Anonymousreply 139January 27, 2019 11:27 PM

Well, they filmed on location, along with the other extant bookstores, if that's what you mean, r139.

Every comedian has to make serious films. It’s a requirement ever since Robin Williams did Garp & Tom Hanks did Philadelphia.

So Jim Carrey, Steve Carrell, Bill Hader, Kristin Wiig, Bill Murray, Chris Rock all did serious films, looking to break out in a new role as a dramatic actor. Even Mike Myers played Steve Rubell in Studio 54

by Anonymousreply 142January 30, 2019 5:53 PM

[quote] Nicknamed in England - Richard He Can't (act

Nonsense. He and his ugly daughter are national treasures. Rex Reed once used the description “aborted albino alligator fetus” to describe an actor (can you guess which one?) It fits Olivia Grant.

by Anonymousreply 143January 30, 2019 5:59 PM

R143 who was the aborted albino alligator fetus?

by Anonymousreply 144January 30, 2019 6:09 PM

Richard E Grant is amazing.

by Anonymousreply 145January 30, 2019 6:16 PM

i just found out Richard E Grant is straight!! Who knew!

by Anonymousreply 146January 30, 2019 6:25 PM

^ I'm not saying he's not straight but you never know who's really straight or gay most actors never come out.

by Anonymousreply 147January 30, 2019 6:31 PM

Richard E. Can't comes from Dame Maggie Smith who loathes him for some reason.

by Anonymousreply 148January 30, 2019 6:56 PM

I always thought he was a terrible actor.

by Anonymousreply 149January 30, 2019 6:57 PM

i don't find him a bad actor, but he's NOT easy on the eyes, not even when young. BTW, this is very sweet (and very gay)

I think this is the first film since Withnail that he's had any sort of recognition for his work. That's a long gap.

by Anonymousreply 151January 30, 2019 7:10 PM

R150 Just lovely!

by Anonymousreply 152January 30, 2019 7:44 PM

I saw it in the theater back in October. I thought the movie was good however, I couldn't stand the character. Absolutely no redeeming qualities about her and therefore it made it hard for me to care or get that invested in the outcome of the story. I know everyone is raving about McCarthy's performance but I personally didn't feel she did anything different than she does in any of her other roles.

by Anonymousreply 153January 30, 2019 8:21 PM

I felt sorry for the cat. Americans never kill dogs in their movies because of my god a man's best friend!!!! but somehow don't give a shit about cats. Cats aren't the ones biting and mauling their owners to death.

by Anonymousreply 154January 30, 2019 9:13 PM

the cat was very old and sick. it was not "killed" in the movie. it felt realistic and sadly natural.

by Anonymousreply 155January 30, 2019 9:32 PM

[quote] Americans never kill dogs in their movies because of my god a man's best friend!!!!

They don't?

by Anonymousreply 156January 30, 2019 10:22 PM

He’s been trying to break into big money American films/tv shows for a while.

by Anonymousreply 157January 30, 2019 10:22 PM

R157 who has?

by Anonymousreply 158January 30, 2019 10:33 PM

Richard is fabulous, I hope Nolan puts him in his next one.

by Anonymousreply 159January 31, 2019 1:44 AM

Richard E Grant is in the next Star Wars so he finally made it in the US

by Anonymousreply 160January 31, 2019 11:08 AM

Plus he got a note from Barbra Streisand. Now THAT's success...

by Anonymousreply 163January 31, 2019 4:25 PM

R153 - the picture did her justice. She had little or no redeeming qualities. She was a nasty, mean, uncaring alcoholic. An interesting story - but she was no hero. Just a scam artist doing what they want to get by without worrying who gets hurt - similar, if pooorer, to our President. Hopefully we are not starting to worship scam artists.

by Anonymousreply 164January 31, 2019 5:51 PM

R164 starting? Zack Morris was a scam artist and he was the idol of many a '90s tween, including yours truly.

by Anonymousreply 165January 31, 2019 6:41 PM

[quote]I saw it in the theater back in October. I thought the movie was good however, I couldn't stand the character. Absolutely no redeeming qualities about her and therefore it made it hard for me to care or get that invested in the outcome of the story.

I've never understood or related to this desire to "like" someone in order to be interested in their story.

No one's asking anyone to worship her.

by Anonymousreply 166January 31, 2019 6:45 PM

[quote]I've never understood or related to this desire to "like" someone in order to be interested in their story.

Read that again. It didn't say the person needed to be liked in order to be interested in their story - it said to be invested in the outcome. I didn't care what was going to happen to her. She didn't deserve better.

In a world of so much hype, I thought this film lived up to it. Truly fantastic. I hope this will finally convince her to drop her husband professionally. They seem like a lovely couple, but every film he writes/directs is a piece of shit and drags her down. No shame in being a stay at home dad, Ben!

by Anonymousreply 170February 18, 2019 12:40 AM

R170 he’s the reason she’s in this and it got made?

by Anonymousreply 171February 18, 2019 4:24 AM

This was an upset win at the WGA last night. I hope it can win the Oscar, too (it probably won't, BlackKKKlansman will because Spike Lee is black).

by Anonymousreply 172February 18, 2019 1:59 PM

R169 I enjoyed that interview with Melissa and hearing about how she prepares for her roles. Thank you!

by Anonymousreply 173February 18, 2019 2:55 PM

Spike Lee will win because BLACKKKLANSMN is excellent, racist/R172.

by Anonymousreply 174February 18, 2019 10:58 PM

R174 oh, come on. You know his being black is an advantage in this day and age (i.e., post-#OscarsSoWhite).

by Anonymousreply 175February 18, 2019 11:05 PM

Please, R175. I’m no Spike Lee fan, but BLACKKKLANSMAN was great. The film is very timely and that ending really shook you up.

by Anonymousreply 176February 18, 2019 11:15 PM

R176 the screenplay/film can be great and he still can have an advantage being black. That's what advantage means. You have something else that makes you more favorable.

Another advantage he has is this being only his second screenplay nomination in 30 years for DO THE RIGHT THING, which many people thought was snubbed for Best Picture and director. And the fact that he hasn't won a competitive Oscar, only a Lifetime Achievement Award several years back.

Berry Jenkins is also black but he already won one two years ago, so he's not getting it.

by Anonymousreply 177February 18, 2019 11:28 PM

Finally saw it.

I'd already read the book, seen the clips many times...so I was a bit stale about it.

I really hated the dreary 50s sings blasting throughout, sometimes to the detriment of the dialogue. They ruined it for me actually. I miss gentle theme music.

by Anonymousreply 178February 20, 2019 7:25 PM

**50s songs** not sings

by Anonymousreply 179February 20, 2019 7:26 PM

But I thought Jane Curtin was stand-out excellent.

by Anonymousreply 180February 20, 2019 7:33 PM

"BLACKKKLANSMN is excellent"

I liked BKKKM very much....for the first two-thirds. It had 15 different endings, the climactic scene was poorly staged, filmed and edited, and dragging in the contemporary footage at the end was embarrassing in its heavy-handedness. Like we didn't get it from the very beginning.

by Anonymousreply 181February 20, 2019 8:00 PM

The best part of BKKKM was Harry Belafonte’s cameo appearance. I wish he had been given Adam Driver’s nomination.

by Anonymousreply 182February 20, 2019 8:03 PM

Why don’t you start a fucking bkkkm thread.

by Anonymousreply 183February 20, 2019 8:04 PM

What R183 said.

by Anonymousreply 184February 20, 2019 8:14 PM

I finally saw it last night and liked it. Thought Melissa McCarthy turned in a good performance but hardly an Oscar-worthy one. I hope it gets her some more dramatic, less-broad roles. Jane Curtin was wonderful.

Really the biggest pleasure of the film was seeing New York through a 1990s lens (and I never thought 1991 could be "nostalgic").

It's also nice to see a movie that's shot on location and not green-screened to death; the last scene in Julius seemed to be partially green-screened and the difference was palpable.

by Anonymousreply 185February 21, 2019 12:24 AM

I liked this film very much. I got a SAG screener for it and felt the film and McCarthy’s performance were both excellent. I also got a screener for The Wife, and feel that CYEFG is a better film.

by Anonymousreply 186February 21, 2019 2:31 AM

McCarthy and the screenplay make a despicable character relatable. It is a great movie.

by Anonymousreply 187February 21, 2019 3:51 AM

Saw this last night and really enjoyed it. Wonderful performance by Grant, good one by MM. Loved the settings, the bitchy dialogue, and so nice to see Jane Curtin!

by Anonymousreply 188February 24, 2019 5:39 PM

R188 the bitchy dialogue is a thing of beauty. I look forward to seeing it a second time!

by Anonymousreply 189February 24, 2019 5:41 PM

R167, so there is a difference between being interested in a story and being invested in the outcome? I guess if you like to count angels on the head of a pin.....

by Anonymousreply 190February 24, 2019 5:44 PM

Just watched it...WONDERFUL movie!

by Anonymousreply 191February 24, 2019 7:33 PM

I got a SAG screener and enjoyed this movie a lot. I think it’s a better film than The Wife.

by Anonymousreply 192February 24, 2019 7:46 PM

Loved this movie.

by Anonymousreply 193February 24, 2019 7:53 PM

almost anything is better than The Wife, r192. I'm glad it will finally get Glenn an Oscar, but it's basically a Lifetime movie.

by Anonymousreply 194February 24, 2019 9:27 PM

It's better than Still Alice R194

by Anonymousreply 195February 24, 2019 9:42 PM

I would rate this movie better than more than half of the best picture nominees.

by Anonymousreply 196February 27, 2019 8:51 PM

Even though I can see that this movie is good from an artistic point of view, it is also a really DEPRESSING movie. I don't know whether anyone else has remarked upon this, but the edit of the trailer which makes it seem like it might be a comedy/dramedy is very misleading.

by Anonymousreply 197February 27, 2019 8:59 PM

a bit OT, but i loved what Paul Schrader said after losing his best script Oscar to Green Book: "Yu can't beat mediocrity". That's also why CYEFM sisn't get any awards this season.

by Anonymousreply 198February 27, 2019 10:12 PM

Schrader will never win anything now. No one likes whiners who lay their sour grapes on the table for all to see.

by Anonymousreply 199February 27, 2019 10:27 PM

[quote] Even though I can see that this movie is good from an artistic point of view, it is also a really DEPRESSING movie.

On the contrary, if I find a movie to be good from an artistic point of view, it cannot be depressing. The thrill of talented artists working at their peak is far from depressing to me.

by Anonymousreply 200February 27, 2019 11:47 PM

I liked it a lot, but definitely see why it didn't play to a broad audience. Everything about it is very good, and is absolutely worth seeing, but it is a pretty depressing film. That said, it is a really good portrait of the artistic reality.

by Anonymousreply 201February 28, 2019 12:02 AM

I thought the trailer was much funnier than the movie.

The bad music drowned out a lot of the dialogue. In fact it was too heavy handed and not relevant to the story in general.

by Anonymousreply 202February 28, 2019 11:18 AM

[quote] and so nice to see Jane Curtin!

She was great in this.

by Anonymousreply 203February 28, 2019 11:20 AM

I read Lee's book Can you ever forgive me? and enjoyed it more than the movie. I found the wit, and dark humor here that was supposed to be in the movie.

by Anonymousreply 204March 17, 2019 6:14 AM

I agree about the music being too intrusive. I thought it especially ruined the telephone booth scene.

by Anonymousreply 205March 20, 2019 8:57 AM

Yes, it did. Very clumsy filmmaking.

Shame because that could have been a very funny scene.

by Anonymousreply 206March 20, 2019 6:15 PM

It was still funny because we got the jist of it, though it wasn't clear what was written on the note they left for the same bookshop guy earlier. I assume it was something like you are an Asshole.

by Anonymousreply 207March 20, 2019 6:59 PM
