As much as I love shows like Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones, I would never watch them endlessly in repeat the way I do Golden Girls, Seinfeld, or other cornball sitcoms. Talented female comics come and go. Some have been smart enough to tap into a specifically gay (and hip) audience: Cho, Sandra Bernhard, Kathy Griffin, Sarah Silverman, and certainly, Joan RIvers) regardless of their own self-identified sexuality.

If they're smart, they'll respect and celebrate that audience without patronizing them. Rivers did. Silverman is uneven, but she's improved with age and is kind of great with G&L stuff.

By contrast, Griffin was always patronizing (and frankly, kind of limited) . Cho even more so. Bernhard was fun but was always a little fucked up on the G&L stuff, and has been running on fumes for decades now.

Regarding the transgendered, if one is born a male, he remains a male for the rest of his life. Even if his penis is molded into a vagina, he’s still a male.
