Return To the LAND: A Michfest Revival

Hello Womyn! The Land has missed you!

Sarah has stopped by to help get the party started, twirling in her vagina cape. So glorious!

Fat womon are needed, as always, for garbage duty, and we will have CPAP capabilities for them and their comfort dogs.

The photo is Sarah; I am Fran.

Is it true that they bloodlet a male infant on the night of a full moon?

by Anonymousreply 3March 23, 2018 7:44 AM

Yes, r3. We take a random boy child from Camp Son and slit the penis.

by Anonymousreply 4March 23, 2018 7:55 AM

Is that before or after the smudging ceremony, R4?

by Anonymousreply 5March 23, 2018 8:08 AM

It’s right after the breast molding activity, R5.

by Anonymousreply 9March 23, 2018 8:45 AM

Are you free flowing, Fran?

by Anonymousreply 10March 23, 2018 8:56 AM

This year’s Butch Strut is being moved to a paved section of the Land so that our DART sisters aren’t forced to scar the Land with their Rascal scooters, an unspoken trauma that has plagued those already downtrodden and differently-abled soldierwomyn for years.

by Anonymousreply 11March 23, 2018 9:17 AM

I’m telling you NOW so I don’t have to tell you THEN

by Anonymousreply 12March 23, 2018 9:31 AM

My soulyearns to make a pilgrimage to the land and take a cleansing shower but I am disabled and on welfare. Would somebody be charitable enough to purchase a ticket for me. Also can somebody give me a ride to fest and provide food and shelter while I am on the land? Blessed be.

by Anonymousreply 13March 23, 2018 9:35 AM

My nutloaf speaks my truth.

by Anonymousreply 14March 23, 2018 9:42 AM

Please remember that due to all attendees suddenly remembering they have nut allergies and because the word NUT can be triggering, please endeavour to refer to nutloaf as labia loaf. This isn’t compulsory but is preferred.

Namaste

I simply MUST attend the Michfest revival this year and feel the healing power of The Land! So I am asking all of you sisters for donations to make up for the money I will lose by not working at my job while I attend Michfest. I don't actually have a job, but I intend to get a job between now and Michfest. Your donations will help offset the lost wages from the job I hope to have by then. Can you help a sister out?

by Anonymousreply 17March 23, 2018 10:01 AM

R17 I remember her! She was real and she was serious.

by Anonymousreply 18March 23, 2018 10:04 AM

I GIVE AN ANGRY CRY OF WOMYNHOOD!

by Anonymousreply 19March 23, 2018 3:35 PM

R16, I am so sorry to wound a sisterwomon with an H. I realize this letter is really triggering, as its shape is like that of football goal. This symbol of the Patriarchy should never be included, unless absolutely necessary.

by Anonymousreply 20March 23, 2018 3:51 PM

Can someone spot a syster some weed to get me through until my hook-up arrives on Saturday? Thanks and light in advance.

by Anonymousreply 21March 23, 2018 3:55 PM

If you’re having a difficult time making that resolution every year just put up a copy of OPs picture on your refrigerator. Whatever you want to fix is represented somewhere in that image.

by Anonymousreply 22March 23, 2018 4:24 PM

I first showed up on DL around the time when MichFest was coming to an end, and when I discovered the historical threads about it on here it was one of the funnest things I’ve ever encountered. The snark and parodies were gut-busting hilarious.

Butch dyke systers, please let’s avoid the unpleasantness of 2012 when a few of you sneaked in some beer. I realize it’s an expression of your butch identity, but it was very triggering. I’ve stated my boundaries.

I would like to remind you all that to cut down on unnecessary squandering of resources that paper plates, napkins, and toilet paper are all strictly forbidden this year, and that we are all going to show our respect for Mother Gaia by going green and using fallen maple leaves instead of these products. Remember that only leaves that have already fallen from the trees may be used--picking leaves will not be tolerated any more than lateness would be at a breast casting session for wimmon of color.

We are stating our boundaries.

Sister at r34, I am currently being triggered by the spermatazoa tattooed on the inside of your ear, which is clearly the sign of patriarchal hatred spilled from a penised persyn.

I am stating my boundaries NOW so I don't have to state them THEN.

by Anonymousreply 35March 23, 2018 6:47 PM

R32, of course! We have an entire camp set up for you special Womyn Warriors, Camp BREATHE.

The Mass Croning will be on Saturday evening at the loaming. Systers experiencing this Divine Secret of Womynhood are asked to create their own crown BEFORE the event. We are holding it in the same place, which is peppered with poison ivy. Please see Syster SagebRush for identification of flora, Syster Ro at the medical tent if you chose to not hear my advice.

by Anonymousreply 36March 23, 2018 6:47 PM

What happened to all these wimmin once MichFest closed its doors? Where can they go now to twirl their vaginal capes in harmony with the stars and moon?

by Anonymousreply 37March 23, 2018 6:50 PM

I don’t know r37. It made some of them so happy. It’s a shame.

by Anonymousreply 38March 23, 2018 6:56 PM

I used to have a blast making fun of these women, but since the trans brigade took over and ruined their festival, I actually feel bad for them and have rearranged my priorities.

So let them have their fun.

by Anonymousreply 39March 23, 2018 6:59 PM

Where have we gone, R37? To SROs that we share with our cats and our computers. I have written a poem about it called Untitled Rhapsody:

No More Michfest

The Penis Took The Land

Patriarchy Wins Again

We Gleam; We Mourn.

by Anonymousreply 40March 23, 2018 6:59 PM

It is sad, R39. The Michfest threads here are loving, mostly. We really did enjoy watching them have their own completely baffling ways and good times. With the closing of lesbian bars, I do wonder how these gals are faring.

by Anonymousreply 41March 23, 2018 7:01 PM

Oh shit, r39, is that what happened? I was off DL for awhile, and when I returned Michfest was over.

by Anonymousreply 42March 23, 2018 7:02 PM

I hope they’ve gone underground. That way they wont have to deal with the whole trans thing which clearly was very upsetting for many of the women.

by Anonymousreply 43March 23, 2018 7:06 PM

It’s interesting how our affection for Michfest has evolved over the years. Now with the rising of the T movement Michfest seems quaint and loveable. There’s nothing about T’s that are quaint or lovable.

by Anonymousreply 44March 23, 2018 9:11 PM

I am excited about bringing my daughter to Michfest. She is so full of rage I hope time on the land will heal her.

by Anonymousreply 45March 24, 2018 7:01 AM

I get really tired of having to repeat this every year, but ...

Please be apprised that Breast Casting for Womyn of Color is for womyn of color born [bold]IN THIS LIFETIME.[/bold]

by Anonymousreply 46March 24, 2018 7:08 AM

The trans issue may have accelerated the decline, but it wasn't the only reason. Their attendance had been declining for a long time. Younger sisterwomyn weren't into the whole separatist second-wave feminism thing. And the stalwarts were always sisterwomyn of less extravagant means.

Does Dinah Shore Weekend still exist?

by Anonymousreply 47March 24, 2018 3:07 PM

by Anonymousreply 49March 24, 2018 3:33 PM

I was reading this thread yesterday and was wondering if it's women and children only, what they thought of the male children being there.

And then I just today stumbled across this... JFC imagine being 'triggered' by a 5 year old boy

by Anonymousreply 50March 25, 2018 1:06 AM

Our daughter-womyn are growing up unmoored. They watch Rachel Maddow and think that’s enough to commune with Gaia. I implore every womon here: please let’s band together. Let us reclaim the land from the penised persons who want to smudge us out of cultural existence. I don’t care if a persin identifies as Sarabeth-Michelle; if it’s penised like a duck and walks like a duck, it’s a duck. Our land will not be phallicized. We will not be penised.

Let us go back to the Land and crabwalk all over it. Let us bring back Fest.

by Anonymousreply 51March 25, 2018 4:04 AM

They had an area, like a child minding service, for kids r50. I can’t remember all the details though.

by Anonymousreply 52March 25, 2018 4:45 AM

They had a concentration camp called “Brother Sun” for male children.

by Anonymousreply 53March 25, 2018 4:48 AM

They don't want any males in a female space, R50.

by Anonymousreply 54March 25, 2018 4:52 AM

I'm pretty sure that they salted the earth where Camp Brother Sun was located after each season.

by Anonymousreply 55March 25, 2018 4:54 AM

r54 Did you read the thread, there are grown women claiming they would feel unsafe in the presence of single digit aged little boys as they might be 'sexual assaulters'.

I know Incels and Radfems are the mirror of each other, but at least Incels/MRAs don't hate the female sex to the point where they despise even little girls.

by Anonymousreply 56March 25, 2018 5:00 AM

I read the thread, R56, and the gist of what they were saying is that they don't want any male, including male children at radfem events/female spaces because male children, even male toddlers, can/do pose a threat to female children, and they wanted their daughters to have a space free of all males - therefore, no male children unless they're literally "babes in arms" in the childcare areas.

by Anonymousreply 57March 25, 2018 5:08 AM

I'm curious about nutloaf. Is is sweet like Baklava? What nuts are used in it? Anyone have a recipe to share?

by Anonymousreply 58March 25, 2018 5:10 AM

I thought at Michfest there was child minding for girls as well, separate from the little boys, but the option to dump their kids regardless of gender in a “camp” for the duration of the fest.

by Anonymousreply 59March 25, 2018 5:12 AM

"because male children, even male toddlers, can/do pose a threat to female children"

AHAHAHA, seriously why do cunts like you post on a forum for men if you hate males so much?

by Anonymousreply 60March 25, 2018 5:12 AM

I don't hate males, R60, was just saying what the posters on that thread posted at R50 were saying.

by Anonymousreply 61March 25, 2018 5:18 AM

r59 no, the evil little boys need to be kept behind razor wire and armed guard lest they sneak out and rape someone with their pre-pubescent wee-wee

by Anonymousreply 62March 25, 2018 5:21 AM

Please with the trans already. Michfest was killed by lesbian cheapness and lesbian drama.

by Anonymousreply 63March 25, 2018 5:51 AM

Plea to my sister lezes out there: Nutloaf recipes anyone?

by Anonymousreply 64March 25, 2018 6:16 AM

I'm sure there are slivered almonds, R64.

by Anonymousreply 65March 25, 2018 6:24 AM

Thx R65... Just looked up recipes, & I'm not impressed. Not saying I wouldn't try it, but not at all what I had imagined.... Eggs, cottage cheese, swiss cheese, brown rice, all these nuts, some contain chestnuts & mushrooms... Weird unorthodox combinations of spices too... Seems like too many disparate things competing for flavour.

by Anonymousreply 66March 25, 2018 6:49 AM

Here you go r64. This nutloaf was recommended by the Irish Times, so make of that what you will.

Thx R67... Looks like some call for carrots, onions, spinach, while others add shrooms and/or chestnuts... I'd rather make a meatloaf personally. Thx R69 too, unless you guys are one in the same. Weirdest ingredient listed was Taragon.... An herb with great uses, but paired with Rosemary, Oregano, Basil, Parsley, Paprika, Sage, and Thyme is just ridiculous.... Like some lass just stood in front of the spice rack and thought, "what ELSE can I put in here?"!!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 70March 25, 2018 7:07 AM

Huh? I always assumed nut loaf was some kind of sweet bread, like zucchini bread.

by Anonymousreply 71March 25, 2018 7:11 AM

R71 Me too, I always thought it was some cake with nuts in it.

by Anonymousreply 72March 25, 2018 7:14 AM

R71 That's what I had thought too my friend! It is a confused dish. I'm going to try to create a sweet not savoury version. I'm going to try a base of Pecans, Cashews, Pistachios, and Allmonds... Maybe some hazelnuts too. Lots of honey, brown sugar, and some molasses.

by Anonymousreply 73March 25, 2018 7:15 AM

I hope you're not diabetic R73 or maybe you'll be soon.

by Anonymousreply 74March 25, 2018 7:17 AM

No, not diabetic, and I'm fit and eat healthy most of the time... This shall fit quite nicely in the 20% dirty fuel portion of my diet!

by Anonymousreply 75March 25, 2018 7:19 AM

Women = w/o men

by Anonymousreply 76March 25, 2018 7:41 AM

R73's nutloaf sounds delicious, but MAN ON THE LAND!

by Anonymousreply 77March 25, 2018 8:17 AM

Upon reading that I could not post a comment to the above-linked thread, I pled to the Goddess that she rid Reddit of restrictions that could only have been imposed by the patriarchal scheme that pervades even the tiniest aspects of a womyn's existence. For example, when I recently asked a manager at Costco whether the Kotex products had ever touched men's hands during the manufacturing or delivery, I was met by a blank stare that surely masked contempt and misogyny.

Yet, I manage to persist.

Where the Reddit thread was concerned, I simply wished to state to my systers that while I agree that a male child of any age poses the threat of rape (even my six-month-old son), I still believe that there are effective precautions that may be taken to allow young penised persons to attend wymyn's events. Namely, metal arm restraints, hard plastic face masks and very binding diapers or metal athletic cups for boys between the ages of two and three.

Naturally, I'm as practical as I am sensible. I would NEVER suggest that any male child above the age of three should ever be admitted to a wymyn only event; the danger of destruction and molestation of our pre-women children is inherent. After all, male chromosomes say it all: Y. Why? Why take the risk?

by Anonymousreply 78March 25, 2018 8:30 AM

The official Michfest nutloaf recipe actually sounds pretty darn good, and I am not a vegetarian. I might play with the spices a bit, but I like the basic "bones "of the recipe. On the same page where the recipe is linked, there is a fabulous recipe for "breakfast in a jar" which I can't wait to make. How great to have something so healthy to just grab and go in the morning.

And boo hiss to the person who implies that Michfest was killed by lack of funds and general apathy. It WAS the trannies, and I particularly remember that those turncoat Ga Peaches the Indigo Girls backed the trannies' demands. They are eternally on my no play list.

One last thing. When I first saw Sara and her vagina cape all atwirl, I actually thought that the vagina (serving as a clasp in the front) was the head of a woodpecker. I was so embarrassed for myself when I finally caught on.

by Anonymousreply 79March 25, 2018 9:20 AM

why are dykes so butt ugly?

seriously....

by Anonymousreply 80March 25, 2018 10:24 AM

Not to be a total downer in an otherwise humorous thread, but sadly there are cases of child-on-child rape, particularly in environments like schools. It’s obviously the product of either extreme abuse or trauma, but it is a real phenomenon.

by Anonymousreply 81March 25, 2018 11:40 AM

Lesbians are some if the most deviant people in the world, r81. Not surprised.

by Anonymousreply 82March 25, 2018 11:43 AM

by Anonymousreply 92March 25, 2018 10:17 PM

I really and truly miss the MichFest threads. They owned the Land itself; I wonder if they ended up selling it or kept it. It's a LOT of money to keep a Festival going, especially one that requires work-shifts and scholarships and rules and NO LATECOMERS. Unlike many music fests, they most likely eschewed sponsorship. I don't think Luna Cups could really kick in that much money to defray those who could not afford the full cost of a ticket.

by Anonymousreply 93March 25, 2018 10:22 PM

R93, a group of women bought The Land, with the help of crowdfunding. I believe they are going to host events there this summer, but they are not going to resurrect MichFest. There is now a much smaller scale event called the Michigan Framily (friends and family) Reunion that happens in the summer. Also, a lot of Festers migrated to the Ohio Lesbian Festival (which is trans inclusive).

by Anonymousreply 100March 26, 2018 2:46 AM

Whether or not male biology can handle the nutloaf is another question.

by Anonymousreply 101March 26, 2018 5:25 AM

by Anonymousreply 109March 27, 2018 11:39 PM

Ladies, I’m telling you now: please empty your mooncups only in the properly marked red waste bins located throughout The Land. Rest assured the bins will eventually be disgorged onto The Land at the end of fest to nourish the Goddess, but there are delicate ivies and other flora in parts of The Land that don’t benefit from infusions of period blood. Also we’re told it may be a biohazard? A penised person told us, so take it with a grain of cruelty-free salt.

by Anonymousreply 112March 28, 2018 8:53 AM

I've always been touched by the idea of MichFest. I have a secret teeshirt. One of my best friends is a lesbian who went for decades and I'd watch her dogs when she was gone. I always had so many questions, to the point where they had to draw me a map. They even offered to sneak me in wearing a burqa, telling everyone I was too traumatized to speak. But I declined because I didn't want to rock anyone's boat.

I like this that I found amongst someone's musings:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

[italic]The thing about Fest is that not only did it center on women, but it loved women – as they were. And it encouraged women to love themselves, as they were. This is spectacularly rare.

I’m reminded of that semi-ubiquitous quote by the incomparable Audre Lorde, “Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.”

So, too, I think is loving ourselves as women, is loving other women.

There is a kind of revolutionary feeling to loving other women. I’m not just talking about sexually or romantically; I’m talking about a form of extremism that is inextricably linked with empathy – as Lisa Vogel said in her letter yesterday, “my eyes meeting yours.” To care about women, to listen to women, feel moved by a woman’s hurt, and her joy, to see another woman and experience that intense recognition because she is your sister, because she knows all those inexpressible things you know by virtue of being born female and groomed into patriarchy – that’s radical. I’ve seen it – the way women, complete strangers, have reached out to each other over the last twenty-four hours to offer comfort, to ask, “How can I help you?”

Women caring, really caring about other women: that’s a real threat to the dominant paradigm. That’s fucking revolutionary.

And that’s not about men. It’s not about men who represent gays in the media who openly mock our pain on Twitter. It’s not about men who identify as women and deem all that does not center their experience, their ego, “hate speech.” It’s not about navel gazing and inventing words for all of our quirks.

And I feel sorry for all the young women who have been bamboozled by the tropes of male-championed liberal feminism that has caused them to believe a gathering of women in the woods is malicious. I feel sorry for all the women who will never know an experience like MichFest, who will have bought the lie that it existed to harm a small group of people, who have dismissed the second wave feminists who helped them have so many of the liberties they now enjoy, who have been conditioned against engaging the critical thinking skills necessary to understand that all the ranting and raving over the evils of Lisa Vogel, the evils of lesbians in the woods, is a fucking witch hunt, is rhetorical napalm used to torch our spaces – not because they are diabolical, but because they rattle – however slightly – the pillars of patriarchy, because they press against the ever elusive dream of women’s real, actual liberation.

So to all my sisters who are mourning this loss, rest assured we are legion and we will go on.

I'll see you in August.[/italic]

Sounds like hell on earth

by Anonymousreply 114March 28, 2018 9:48 AM

Well, if you hate women, then Yes.

Do all of their periods sync up while they're there? Can you IMAGINE the collective PMS?

by Anonymousreply 116March 28, 2018 5:48 PM

This is just so foreign to me. I feel like an anthropologist.

Not calling it bad or weird or anything. It’s just so different. Like Juggalo culture or the Duck Dynasty people. Vive la difference!

R113, do you suppose the horny poetess in Armistead Maupin’s “Wimminwood” was based on Ms. Lorde?

The festival was only a week long.

by Anonymousreply 119March 28, 2018 7:03 PM

R118 It was mostly based on Lily Tomlin

Women are trading in their menstrual cycles in for a Honda.

I always found it interesting that these gals paid to attend the festival, but then were still required to do work shifts too.

by Anonymousreply 122March 28, 2018 8:52 PM

Good ol' Michfest. Those gals were a riot. DL Mitchfest theads were always an event, but the fucking Trannies had to destroy all of that. *cries*

Trans are like a cancer.

[quote]R121 I always found it interesting that these gals paid to attend the festival, but then were still required to do work shifts too.

When you were on the Work Crew (I think it was called) you arrived a week early to set up all the platforms and tents and lighting, etc., and then you had other duties throughout the following week. Crew people didn't pay for the pass that got you into the festival - they were, in essence, running the festival. And some women just went for a day of two of the actual festival (not everyone can afford to take off work for a whole week, or find childcare etc.)...those people didn't have to work a shift in the kitchen or anything...tho I could check.

Working shifts in the kitchen or wherever were often enjoyed for its sense of commraderie, and contributing something to the group. And you picked the area you were interested in. It's not like they just said, "Okay, YOU! Go pick up trash for 6 hours!!" If you were an electrician, you'd probably have some work detail that had to do with the stage lights, for example.

^^ SORRY...meant for R122

by Anonymousreply 125March 29, 2018 3:00 AM

Fat womyn, of course, were conscripted to garbage detail. Unless they demonstrated a Hedy Lamar-esque aptitude in an unexpected field such as the instruction of calisthenics or the scrambling of the trans’ radio equipment signals.

What does r/GC mean?

by Anonymousreply 129March 29, 2018 4:17 AM

I have an inane question re: r110's post. Does that actually do anything for the land in terms of fertilizint it or is it just gross and odd?

I miss the real MichFest threads. I miss that weed smoking psycho who hit on everything and everyone and wanted like, two million dollars per passenger to ride in her Econoline. She was my favourite.

If that ever happened, I imagine it would fertalize soil. The same way the American Indians taught Pilgrims to drop a piece of raw fish into the hollow you'd make for a seed in dirt, while planting.

But I think we can rest assured this was not a real Festival practice.

by Anonymousreply 131March 29, 2018 4:39 AM

That was Denise r130 and her Rainbow Express. I looked her up on Facebook and she actually does a lot of good work and seems pretty cool.

by Anonymousreply 132March 29, 2018 4:40 AM

A girl I went to college to goes to this out in California, a little more new age than MichFest.

Reddit/Gender Critical. A bastion of sanity.

by Anonymousreply 134March 29, 2018 1:02 PM

There's an "Ellen" episode (post-coming out, of course) where she goes to "Womyn Fest," which features Sarah McLachlan and the Indigo Girls.

I regret that we didn't form a group of lesbians and straight women allies to attend Michfest before it ended. I would have loved to experience it myself even though I am not gay,

by Anonymousreply 136March 30, 2018 4:03 PM

The discussions above Re:'Penischwitz'..... apparently there have been complaints.
