Unrealistic things on the Golden Girls.

I'll begin.

In the episode, "Joust Between Friends," the subplot involved Rose taking in a lost dog, a Bearded Collie. By the end of the episode, the dog's owner had been found, and Dorothy admitted that she missed the dog more than she let on. Rose surprised her by going to the animal shelter and bringing home several dogs. Here's where the unrealistic part comes in; all of the dogs were purebreds, including an Airedale and Beddlington Terriers, (and possibly a Norwich Terrier).

by Anonymousreply 380February 14, 2020 5:37 AM

how about the fact that a dog shelter let a moron take home a dozen dogs!

by Anonymousreply 1March 7, 2018 5:01 AM

I think it's unrealistic (and disappointing) that in real life there was never a porn spinoff, [italic]The Golden Shower Girls.

by Anonymousreply 2March 7, 2018 5:09 AM

R2, Blanche was good to go, but Mel Bushman said no.

by Anonymousreply 3March 7, 2018 5:25 AM

I think Betty White demanded Shelley Hack as her nude double, and negotiations broke down.

by Anonymousreply 4March 7, 2018 5:35 AM

They're four old white women in Miami and none of them got skin cancer or breast cancer. I know it's a comedy but that would be a lot more realistic than Dorothy's two episodes of chronic fatigue syndrome or Rose possibly getting AIDS.

by Anonymousreply 5March 10, 2018 2:16 PM

I guess you're also forgetting the fact that we never see those dogs again. Dinner's ready!

by Anonymousreply 6March 10, 2018 2:31 PM

In the episode where Stan has bypass surgery and recuperates with the girls, he fakes a relapse because he doesn't want to leave the house. Dorothy calls the surgeon, who says that Stan should rest. What kind of doctor is that? If someone is experiencing some sort of relapse from major heart surgery, shouldn't he be admitted to the hospital asap for testing? That made no sense.

by Anonymousreply 7March 10, 2018 2:31 PM

When Blanche returns to say good-bye to her childhood home before they tear it down, she identifies her room as Room #7. WTF? Who numbers their rooms in a house?

by Anonymousreply 8March 10, 2018 2:37 PM

It is unrealistic that the other girls are expected to pay for repairs to the house when they are renters.

by Anonymousreply 9March 10, 2018 2:38 PM

Who has renters in a suburban home in the first place?

by Anonymousreply 10March 10, 2018 2:40 PM

What about the ancient pharmacist who "just got home from the front" of Desert Storm in 1991?????

by Anonymousreply 11March 10, 2018 2:40 PM

Adding to the episode where Stan recuperates with Dorothy after surgery, the premise of the episode is based on the fact that Stan had nowhere else to stay. He had two adult children, and of course a brother who's a top surgeon. At least one of them wouldn't have offered to take him in?

by Anonymousreply 12March 10, 2018 2:41 PM

The Japanese gardener in 80s Miami always kills me.

by Anonymousreply 13March 10, 2018 2:46 PM

I liked some of the faux flashback episodes, but I always found the fact that the producers never went out of their way to at least mimic the girls' hairstyles to reflect how they should've looked a the time irritating and unrealistic. For instance, in the second season ep where they're faux-flashing back to past birthday parties from 2 or 3 years earlier, Blanche is sporting the exact same hairstyle she has in season 2 only. Made the whole episode seem unauthentic.

by Anonymousreply 14March 10, 2018 2:47 PM

Guess what? It's a tv comedy show not a documentary about retirees.

by Anonymousreply 15March 10, 2018 3:00 PM

R8, don’t brothels have numbered rooms?

by Anonymousreply 16March 10, 2018 3:10 PM

It always puzzled me that they had so many male suitors. I don’t know anything about senior citizens’ sex lives. Maybe old people do get around. The impression I have is that there aren’t enough old guys to go around.

by Anonymousreply 17March 10, 2018 3:12 PM

^^ And that some of them were interested in Dorothy.

by Anonymousreply 18March 10, 2018 3:13 PM

Where did Stan live in Florida? On the few times they showed his living quarters, it was obviously a hotel room. Did Stan live out of a best western?

by Anonymousreply 19March 10, 2018 3:17 PM

After Blanche's remark that something was rotten in the state of Denmark, Rose claimed it was their cheese - and that they refused to use preservatives. Utterly false.

by Anonymousreply 20March 10, 2018 6:25 PM

The house had been turned into a bed and breakfast after Blanche's family owned it, R8.

by Anonymousreply 21March 10, 2018 6:33 PM

R11 He was probably a General or an Admiral.

R19 They never showed Stan's house. They showed Stan's hotel room once. He didn't return to Florida until the second season. In that first season episode with the hotel room, Stan flew in to Florida to sell property that they had bought while on their honeymoon. Now THAT makes no sense, at Stan and Dorothy were teenagers at the time they were married. But they had enough money to go to Florida for a honeymoon AND put money down on property?

by Anonymousreply 22March 10, 2018 6:34 PM

In the first Clayton episode, Dorothy misinterprets Rose's whisper in her ear as "Clayton is a hobo." Obviously, Rose was trying to say "Clayton is a homo." The scene is funny, but I didn't find it realistic that Rose would refer in such a derogatory manner to a gay person as "homo," especially since two seasons earlier she showed great sensitivity with Dorothy's friend Jean.

by Anonymousreply 23March 10, 2018 6:34 PM

When did Dorothy find time to go to college, BTW? The show never made it fully clear when she got knocked up either. One episode she says it was after she had been stood up for her senior prom. Another episode had them in high school.

And apparently Dorothy lived in a dorm at college as well, despite having a husband and a child.

by Anonymousreply 24March 10, 2018 6:38 PM

One thing that really got to me that Rose was an idiot supposedly from a town that spawned mental midgets. Yet, her daughter Bridget studied at Oxford, and the other daughter Kiersten was intelligent. Her mother Alma was a smart cookie and her sisters also seemed pretty bright.

by Anonymousreply 25March 10, 2018 6:38 PM

Sorry to ask but what is it about that show that attracts so much attention from DLers ? I am from overseas and a newbie on DL. I remember it was a show for elderly ladies, about elderly ladies. Are all these threads started by elderly women ? I don't understand

by Anonymousreply 26March 10, 2018 6:42 PM

So Jean, fresh off a dairy farm in the midwest, went to some CUNY college with Dorothy? Not to mention, Lois Nettleton was a good five years younger than Bea IRL and looked about 10 years younger.

by Anonymousreply 27March 10, 2018 6:43 PM

R22, you're right about the pharmacist. Blanche once said that she only dated officers, so he could very well have been a general or an admiral.

by Anonymousreply 28March 10, 2018 6:43 PM

I LIVE for threads like this one.

by Anonymousreply 29March 10, 2018 6:44 PM

Did they have a pool or not? In one episode, Sophia makes a joke about them being the only house on the block without a pool. In the Empty Nest backdoor pilot, Dorothy reminds the Joe Isuzu guy that he come over to her house last NYE and threw up in her pool. So which is it?

by Anonymousreply 30March 10, 2018 6:47 PM

r25

Rose was adopted so Alma and her sisters were probably thrilled not to be related to her biologically!

by Anonymousreply 31March 10, 2018 6:56 PM

Has someone done the math for Morothy's children? We all know that Morothy was knocked up and then married to Dan for 38 years.

Has someone come up with a scenario where her daughter and son were both Early Twenties when first introduced?

by Anonymousreply 32March 10, 2018 6:56 PM

Why did Mildred, (Sophia's friend) yell through the window, "you can come now, we have room now," if she thought Sophia was sleeping?

by Anonymousreply 33March 10, 2018 6:57 PM

R23 Golden Girls was never politically correct, moron. The hobo line is probably my favourite line of the whole series. Get over it, you loser. The show always tried to go for laughs with Bea Arthur's unparalleled delivery.

by Anonymousreply 34March 10, 2018 6:58 PM

Dorothy's son was also too young. If she got knocked up in highschool, he should have been in his 30's or early 40's.

by Anonymousreply 35March 10, 2018 7:00 PM

Did they actually get the hot tub installed?

by Anonymousreply 36March 10, 2018 7:00 PM

Her daughter was oldest, not her sexy son.

by Anonymousreply 37March 10, 2018 7:01 PM

Was Michael the first or Kate? Kate looked to be in her thirties.

by Anonymousreply 38March 10, 2018 7:01 PM

The episode op mentioned is the only one you can see Bea smiling for real. There is happiness in her eyes when the dogs run in at the end.

by Anonymousreply 39March 10, 2018 7:02 PM

Kate was the elder Mororthy/Dan spawn.

Michael was so fucking hot! Those nips!

by Anonymousreply 40March 10, 2018 7:04 PM

Was the whole "Herring circus" story actually in the script, or did Betty improvise? Bea and Rue clearly break up at the beginning and Bea shoots a look of surprise to Betty when she continues.

by Anonymousreply 41March 10, 2018 7:05 PM

In "money making schemes" vignette episode, young Sophia mentions to young Dorothy that Dorothy, Stan and the kids can come over their house on Sundays to watch that "new show, Make Room For Daddy." MRFD started in 1953, so the kids the were definitely born before '53, which would've put them at least in their early 30s by the present-day episodes. But in one episode, Dorothy mentions that Michael is only 22.

by Anonymousreply 42March 10, 2018 7:06 PM

R26 lives under a rock.

by Anonymousreply 43March 10, 2018 7:08 PM

How did they all get the flu? The flu hits you like a mac truck right away. It doesn't start out as a little tickle in your throat, like Rose had. And that stupid doctor (the snobby sister from "Angie")! Forget about the idiocy of having a doctor make house calls, all she did was feel Rue's glands and look down one of their throats, and presto, she proclaims they have the flu! So dumb!

by Anonymousreply 44March 10, 2018 7:13 PM

I know Designing Women is pretty much all but forgotten in mainstream culture, but it was very similar to GG. Can someone start a thread comparing and contrasting elements of these two series?

by Anonymousreply 45March 10, 2018 7:16 PM

The dance marathon episode. It seems highly unlikely that an elderly Rose was able to do those backflips and splits.

by Anonymousreply 46March 10, 2018 7:20 PM

R45 Designing Women was a great show that at its best was just as good as Golden Girls. The problem was that it was never able to maintain its consistency with the firing of Delta and the leaving of Jean. I think if the original cast had remained another two seasons, the show would be more widely known today in reruns. Plus there was all the turmoil with Delta and the producers, which overshadowed the show. GG never had that. It was only after the show had ended when the Betty/Bea rumors started to come out.

Annie Potts did an interview a couple of years back where she said they could never understand why DW was ignored so much by the Emmys while all of the Golden Girls kept getting nominated year after year. Plus they did an infamous Emmy appearance where they threw shade at the Female-Comedy series nominees and the Academy. When Candice accepted the award that night, she thanked the academy on behalf of Murphy Brown AND Designing Women.

Delta's last season was hilarious!

The episodes about Julia going to jail and about Julia's purse-as-art were two of the funniest shows I've ever seen.

by Anonymousreply 48March 10, 2018 7:28 PM

R46 They used a double for that scene you moron. Stupidest comment ever.

by Anonymousreply 49March 10, 2018 7:31 PM

No pool? Never shorts. Always winter clothes.

by Anonymousreply 50March 10, 2018 7:36 PM

It always seemed odd to me that a house that big didn't have a formal dining room, or even a den. Yet there were four very large bedrooms.

by Anonymousreply 51March 10, 2018 7:37 PM

And the lanai R51

by Anonymousreply 52March 10, 2018 9:45 PM

The layout of the house in general was unrealistic.

by Anonymousreply 53March 10, 2018 9:46 PM

Did it make sense that the Petrillos and Weinstocks were best friends in Brooklyn in the 40s and 50s? Did Brooklyn really have these multi-ethnic/religious neighborhoods, with people of Jews, Italian-American Catholics, etc., interacting so intimately, or was that just the writers romanticizing the Brooklyn of that era?

by Anonymousreply 54March 11, 2018 2:03 AM

Were there really "No Jews Allowed" clubs in Miami in the 80s?

by Anonymousreply 55March 11, 2018 2:06 AM

R49, I think YOUR comment is actually the stupidest. R46 clearly said that it wasn't realistic for the character of Rose to be doing backflips - not the actress Betty White.

Oh, dear.

by Anonymousreply 57March 11, 2018 2:59 AM

To be fair, R30, Dorothy says he threw up in the pool at a party-she never said it was at their house. And PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't bring up the ages of Dorothy's children in relation to the fact that they are too young. The last time we had a thread like this some clearly deranged poster insisted that the child that Dorothy was pregnant with when she got married died and was mentioned once on the show-there was no convincing him otherwise.

by Anonymousreply 58March 11, 2018 3:44 AM

[quote]R58 some clearly deranged poster insisted that the child that Dorothy was pregnant with when she got married died

Tonight, on a very special episode....

by Anonymousreply 59March 11, 2018 3:53 AM

So Blanche is this southern belle who came from money and married money. Yet, she had to rent out rooms in her home, and advertised for vacancies on a supermarket bulletin board, no less. This plays into the bigger issue that It seems they had her being rich or poor depending on whatever the plotline was for the episode.

by Anonymousreply 60March 11, 2018 3:56 AM

The surveillance episode where Cop George Clooney gets shot

by Anonymousreply 61March 11, 2018 4:31 AM

For women who always seem to be having money issues, they sure go to a lot of formal events - galas, fund raisers, etc. They also have a lot of formal wear. If they were really always that short of cash, you'd seem them wearing or repurposing their old gowns.

by Anonymousreply 62March 11, 2018 4:43 AM

The fact that Rose was even in contention for hospital administrator was laughable enough. But Dorothy thinking that Rose could get the job with a resume containing pencil cross-outs was just too ludicrous for words.

by Anonymousreply 63March 11, 2018 5:02 AM

The wall outside the front door

by Anonymousreply 64March 11, 2018 5:34 AM

The location of Blanche’s original room in the first episode.

by Anonymousreply 65March 11, 2018 5:43 AM

I think it's unrealistic that no one smothered Sophia in her sleep.

Incredibly grating!

by Anonymousreply 66March 11, 2018 5:45 AM

Is this thread going to be considered "Grandson of Golden Girls Inconsistencies" from now on? If so, then I think the original should be here for reference's sake. It's not lost to the sands of time and webmaster whimsy, bitches!

For my part, I want to mention R3's point in that thread. Why was New Yorker Phil buried in Miami? And where were his 10 kids at the funeral, not to mention Gloria?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 67March 11, 2018 7:04 AM

It's sunny and very hot and humid in Miami; none of them wore shorts, sleeveless blouses, sunglasses or visors.

by Anonymousreply 68March 11, 2018 7:26 AM

The fireplace at the back of the main living room set. Wasn't that a fireplace? I think it was.

Who has a freaking fireplace in Miami?

I could understand Blanche having suitors and even Rose getting some love, but the unending stream of ever-changing male callers who chased after them was complete lunacy. The dating pool is very small at that age and if you're going to date as much as these women did you have to be very strategic about it.

It also seemed like every time Dorothy found a man, the show would have her act as though she had never experienced love before and was swept off her feet. It was like the same emotional beats every time. A person won't fall head-over-heels and be astonished by how great it is every time someone takes an interest in them.

by Anonymousreply 69March 11, 2018 7:33 AM

If Dorothy had been a knocked up teen who barely graduated high school and immediately married loser Stan, how did she manage to "study in Rome and lecture in Paris," as Blanche tells their boss during Dorothy's job interview at the art museum?

by Anonymousreply 70March 11, 2018 7:45 AM

When Sophia loses her glasses and accidentally wanders outside the front door (thinking she was on her way to her bedroom), within a second or two you you hear a car honking. There's NO way she could have gotten anywhere close to the street in just a second or two.

Whenever a relative came to visit to reveal a secret or a deal with a life-changing issue, it made no sense that they wouldn't have told other family members. For example, didn't Clayton worry about having to tell Big Daddy, Virginia and Charmaine about being gay? Didn't Big Daddy need to introduce Margaret to Clayton, Virginia or Charmaine to get their approval? Why did Lily need to rely solely on Rose? She also could've leaned on Holly or any of the seven brothers that they supposedly had to help her adjust to being blind. None of that ever made sense.

by Anonymousreply 75March 11, 2018 3:34 PM

She could have retyped the resume, R63. Who said she was going to hand it in with the penciled in corrections?

by Anonymousreply 76March 11, 2018 3:42 PM

Dorothy to Rose: "He took off the Goofy head. See? That's not so bad. [looks at Blanche and rolls her eyes]

by Anonymousreply 77March 11, 2018 3:46 PM

When Dorothy dates the guy who adores her after a few weeks of dating but gets increasingly frustrated because Sophia is tagging along with them for dates, causing her to not go to the Bahamas with him (and terminating the relationship).

Was Dorothy ever the timid type who wouldn't say, "Ma! A man wants to spend time with me! Shady Pines, Ma!"

by Anonymousreply 78March 11, 2018 3:48 PM

So much cheesecake, yet no exercise. Why weren’t these bitches 300 pounds?

by Anonymousreply 79March 11, 2018 3:49 PM

I absolutely hated that episode, R78. What an absolute cunt Sophia was for doing that to Dorothy.

by Anonymousreply 80March 11, 2018 4:01 PM

Why was Blanche so shocked that Becky suddenly looked like a goodyear blimp? Did Becky also stop talking to Janet, Matthew, Biff, Doug, Skippy etc.? Wouldn't one of them at least have known that Becky ballooned up and then related that to Blanche?

by Anonymousreply 81March 11, 2018 4:10 PM

Did Rebecca ever have her artificial insemination baby? Why did all the girls think the idea was so gross?

by Anonymousreply 82March 11, 2018 4:14 PM

Wasn't Rebecca's baby Aurora? Blanched didn't like that name and called her Oreo.

by Anonymousreply 83March 11, 2018 4:19 PM

R68 good catch. I never saw them dressed appropriate for Miami weather. Not even close!

by Anonymousreply 84March 11, 2018 4:25 PM

They wore shorts and polos when Dorothy killed Trudy McMann on the tennis court. And visors!

by Anonymousreply 85March 11, 2018 4:28 PM

R85 that was a crazy episode. What a bizarre friendship.

by Anonymousreply 86March 11, 2018 4:38 PM

by Anonymousreply 88March 11, 2018 9:17 PM

The likes of Burt Reynolds and Julio Iglasias picking up Sophia for a date. Never would happen. Which is what makes it funny amd enjoyable to see in a comedy.

by Anonymousreply 89March 11, 2018 10:09 PM

There was a real shift in tone when the original showrunners left after season 4 and were replaced by Marc Sotkin, who had produced Laverne and Shirley. Whereas Rose had been naive and took every comment literally and at face value, she now became borderline retarded. Dorothy, once strong and self-assured, all of a sudden she became insecure and totally lacking in confidence. Blanche went full-on slut, and Sophia went from a funny character with no censor to a useless quip machine. Translation: the show was totally dumbed down and the characters lost all sense of nuance and shading. Season 5 wasn't so terrible, since Terry Hughes was still around. Seasons 6 and 7 are cringeworthy IMO.

by Anonymousreply 90March 11, 2018 11:45 PM

by Anonymousreply 108March 12, 2018 10:20 PM

by Anonymousreply 112March 12, 2018 11:58 PM

There was a humanity about the first four or five seasons that was lost in its final years. The first few seasons brilliantly balanced the shrillness with true warmth. Some of the more dramatic, serious moments among the silliness were actually quite touching, something that Susan Harris had mastered with Soap. The last few seasons, the characters seemed shrill and spouted mean, insulting lines just for the sake of being mean and insulting and to get an easy laugh. The new writers and producers never really "got" the show in my opinion. I avoid the last 2.5 seasons like the plague.

by Anonymousreply 113March 13, 2018 1:53 AM

R113 Yes the same tired jokes used 50 times in the first 4 seasons were just masterfully written. Not.

by Anonymousreply 114March 13, 2018 4:08 AM

I know I'm in the minority but I absolutely love season 7. It's hilarious and no one is worrying about political correctness and the issue shows are dated badly. And the few poignant moments used are that much more effective.

It became my favorite season in reruns over the past few years.

by Anonymousreply 115March 13, 2018 8:40 AM

Not only that, R110. It's the night before the wedding, the cake is barely finished and they are going to cook all the chickens needed in their own stove. On top of that Sophia said they lost their shirts on the catering, implying they were doing all this without a contract.

by Anonymousreply 116March 13, 2018 3:38 PM

Also, that whole vignette wasn't very PC. A white woman calling the cops on an obviously Puerto Rican woman to say she had (falsely) stolen something of hers! No one could get away with writing something like that nowadays. Even the Marguerite episode is not very PC...a lazy black maid! They were probably able to get away with THAT because it was written by a black writer, Winifred Hervey.

by Anonymousreply 117March 13, 2018 3:42 PM

In the chronic fatigue episode, was that ending tagged on at the last minute? The whole scene is awkward. Bea's monologue is beyond awful and she is obviously reading from cue cards. It's pretty cringeworthy to watch. And then Bibi Besch curiously shows up in a seemingly throwaway part. She was a pretty in-demand actress at that time, and it's hard to believe she would commit to essentially a glorified walk-on role, unless she was friends with Witt Thomas Harris who asked her to do them a quick 11th hour favor. Just very strange all-around.

[quote]Made no sense that Blanche didn't wanna fuck the George Clooney character. She was all over Dirk a few seasons earlier, so it was illogical that she didn't want George to tear that shit to threads.

R115, I also worship Season 7 and prefer it over all of the other seasons.

The bitchiness is hilarious! Everything is there for a laugh, not trying to be "heartwarming" or an "issue."

Bea's fierce hairstyle makes S7 complete!

by Anonymousreply 121March 13, 2018 4:30 PM

The writing in season 7 (and 6) was so fucking lazy. Rose is a retard, Dorothy is ugly and dateless, Blanche is a slut, Sophia is a cranky old cunt...we get it! No nuance, as in earlier seasons, and thus not as engaging. Jokes for jokes' sake. The actresses were basically phoning it in.

by Anonymousreply 122March 13, 2018 4:45 PM

I'm not a fan of the last season, but I have to say Rue has some great moments, and is the by far and away the best of the bunch that year. She submitted and should have gotten an Emmy nod for "Journey to the Centre of Attention".

How Betty got nominated for "Dateline Miami" over her is baffling. Betty did nothing extraordinary in that episode, and it is one of the weakest of the show.

by Anonymousreply 123March 13, 2018 4:55 PM

R112 I was about to write the same thing. How it seems there are two entrances from the garage - back left of the living room/lanai and back left of the kitchen (which would go right through the bedrooms/bedroom hallway) - makes no sense.

I cringe in the very early episodes where Dorothy and Rose refer to Charlie as "Charles."

by Anonymousreply 148March 15, 2018 5:23 PM

They never found Dorothy in bed with a woman.

by Anonymousreply 149March 15, 2018 5:52 PM

That brings up a good point, R148. Why would a woman who obviously referred to her husband as Charles her whole married life all of a sudden start referring to him as Charlie? I believe Rose had 2 husbands, Charles and Charlie, and the second season (when she refers to "Charlie") actually takes place several years into the future after the first season. In the interim Rose had remarried another man named Charles, to whom she referred as Charlie. He passed and then she returned to live with Blanche.

by Anonymousreply 151March 15, 2018 7:10 PM

Dorothy had eight children with Stan: David, Mary, Joanie, Susan, Nancy, Elizabeth, Tommy, and Nicholas. After Dorothy's death, Stan remarried to this Uber-cunt named Abby, and they adopted a young runaway named Jeremy. Mary ended up dying of a drug overdose, Susan lives toothless in a trailer park, and Tommy was on a weight loss programme, but I've lost touch with the other kids. The runaway does karate, and was on trial for murder until his cousin Vinnie got him off.

Don't hold me to the accuracy of all that, I sometimes get confused in my dotage. But I do know that Abby was, indeed, a cunt.

by Anonymousreply 152March 16, 2018 12:40 PM

I'm so glad Elaine Stritch didn't get the role of Dorothy. That never would've worked. She's too strident and shrill. Every line of dialogue would've sounded like it needed to be punctuated with "FUCK!" Bea brought just the right balance of sarcasm and warmth to the role.

Dorothy being the progressive one but not agreeing with her son marrying a black woman. I HATE that episode.

by Anonymousreply 178March 17, 2018 12:13 AM

r178, I thought that was very realistic. A lot of people are liberal and progressive, until suddenly things hit a little too close to home, and you are forced to re-evaluate things. Anyway, the writers went out of their way to show that Dorothy's main issue, after getting past the race thing, was the age difference. The black family was the one that took issue with the difference in their races.

by Anonymousreply 179March 17, 2018 12:18 AM

R111 R157 R158 I discovered a website that had blueprints of various tv show layout about a decade ago but can't remember it's name as I would like to view them all again.

It had the Jeffersons apartment, Brady Bunch house & several others but I can't recall which ones.

One of them was the Golden Girls house blueprint which at the time answered all my questions about the house layout.

Over the years while watching, I too would think that the garage was behind the wall phone in the kitchen. However, the blueprint showed a laundry/mudroom there that was about 6 ft. by 6 ft. for the washer/dryer to up against the wall & about a 3 ft. hallway which led out to the backyard (enough for the mudroom door to open but not hit the wall of Rose's bedroom which is indeed there. Despite what some confused fans think, she isn't made to sleep in the garage regardless how stupid her St. Olaf stories are LOL.)

In only one episode Dorothy (I think) was correctly bringing in a clothes basket from the laundry room into the kitchen but it is never referred to by its name at all during the series run leading to many confused fans. In too many episodes, the writers/characters imply that when they enter the kitchen that they came from the garage (or they say they are going to the garage & then enter the laundry room making many viewers = including myself think the garage is behind the house). The garage is in fact in front of the house on the right side (as the house stock photo at the start of the show implies). This means that the kitchen is behind the garage as it's on the right side of the house as well.

The garage episodes (the minks, turning the garage into another room, etc.) show that there is a door that goes to the kitchen opposite the garage door wall & there is a side door on the right of the garage that leads to the right side of the property's yard area. When the girls say they are going to the garage in the kitchen, they exit out the small 6 by 6 ft. laundry room behind the wall phone wall and walk behind the sink window, down past the refrigerator wall & around to enter the side door of the garage located on its right.

When the rest home burns down in an early season 1 episode, it implies that they have to make room for Sophia so some of her stuff might be stored along the back wall of the garage where the kitchen door is on most episodes which might explain why the girls never use it. I believe in another episode the girls say THEY (not Blanche) have too much stuff in the garage which also might explain why the garage door to the kitchen isn't used. In sit-com reality, the actresses would never be allowed to walk towards the kitchen door to the garage (just as no actress was allowed to sit directly opposite Dorothy's usual seat at the kitchen table. The last girl in the room would always pull up a chair in between Dorothy's middle seat & the one Blanche usually sat in but could never be the fourth person sitting at the table). Actors aren't shown with their backs to the viewers unless something in the script calls for it & even then it's only for a brief remark or stunt.

The blueprints also included some landscaping around the tv sets houses (sorry Jeffersons) & the Golden Girls home had flower beds on the right side of the garage with only its side door interrupting them. The back side (where the kitchen was) had more flower beds & a presumably small palm type tree near the kitchen window but not visible which explains why you don't see it in any shots the "lesbian Jean" episode). There was a stone walkway that started at the front driveway that connected the side garage door to the back door of the laundry room. It was just a foot or two from all of the flower beds that surround the back & right side of the home.

Perhaps another unrealistic thing is during the first season you could see what looked like apartments or other buildings out the kitchen window but later on they were never seen again. Destroyed by an unmentioned hurricane between episodes?

by Anonymousreply 180March 17, 2018 1:14 AM

Here is one I just thought of.

For a dive bar that catered mostly to men the Rusty Anchor had a very fancy looking and spacious ladies room.

by Anonymousreply 181March 17, 2018 1:34 AM

I ran out of space to finish up on my earlier post.

It's probable that since it was a two car garage & there were 3 active drivers (sorry Sophia), Blanche used one garage parking space for herself most of the time & had Rose & Dorothy park in the driveway to avoid fights over who got the remaining space (even after they sold stuff in the lanai sale/hockey stick episode it looked piled up in there). What's unrealistic about that one is the garage is what most people would have used for a sale. Imagine being senior citizens & moving all of that stuff that came presumable from the garage out on the lanai only to move it back there if it didn't sell or no charity would accept it.

Also, I believe Blanche had an unmentioned rule that whoever was having company over in the living room, the other girls would park in the drive, go around on the stone walkway & enter from the laundry room backdoor to avoid many interruptions. You can conclude this from the episode where Dorothy brings a pizza in the backdoor (saying something like no Rose it's a bucket of chicken I hope you like yours extra flat & crispy) as well as the "Uncle Angelo" debut episode where Blanch & Rose take the longer way to enter the house even when a hurricane is coming (I recall they were both dressed as nuns). So even when a big disaster is coming, the roommates are expected to give the host in the living room her mandatory privacy. No exceptions to this rule even in emergency situations.

One can assume with the flower beds around most of the house that the women all had green thumbs & would look at their plants while they walked around to enter the laundry room door.

Another unrealistic thing was in the episode where Rose says she once lived in a burning building. Something like "it started out with 3 bedrooms & 2 baths, then 2 bedrooms & 1 bath. Eventually we outgrew the place." Even I (as a Rose fan) was saying SHUT UP ROSE!!!! when I first heard her say that. Whenever I see the Debbie Reynolds episode where she asks Blanche "is she crazy or stupid" & Blanche says "we think it's a mix." I always flashback to her burning building story & agree with the roommates view of her.

by Anonymousreply 182March 17, 2018 1:45 AM

Blanche liked to live with "dogs" to make herself look prettier and more attractive.

Why was Betty second-billed? And why was Estelle, a little known New York theater actress, given the "and" credit. How was her agent able to negotiate that? Bea was rightly billed first, but it should've been Rue 2nd and Estelle 3rd, with Betty getting the "and" credit.

Blanche knew her way around enough not to get called out. The wicked girls know how to protect themselves and the innocent ones don't need to. The ones in trouble are the basically good ones that may be led astray or talked into something. Those with low self-esteem.

Remember Blanche said, "When I'm with someone you can better believe it's because I want to be there."

Some people never lose it, but some do lose it fast. I work with three Poles and one has barely any trace of accent the other two have the "slavic" tone in their voice. All came to the US when they were about 12.

by Anonymousreply 232March 28, 2018 10:05 AM

"I work with three Poles..."

Tough act to follow.

How come they all detested Jeremy for making fun of fat Becky, yet all they ever did was hurl really nasty insults at one another? Hypocritical much, ladies?

[quote]How come they all detested Jeremy for making fun of fat Becky, yet all they ever did was hurl really nasty insults at one another? Hypocritical much, ladies?

Sophia was the worst... she insulted her as soon as she walked in the door?

R234 R235 Yeah instead of attacking poor Jeremy for his tongue they should have asked him to move in with them.

I wonder if he knew how to care for minks or put in a toilet?

And what dating survey would ever ask "Which of the following characteristics could you live with? Body odor, schizophrenia, or extra toes." That seems a bit far-fetched, right?

by Anonymousreply 237March 31, 2018 2:59 PM

Would it have been THAT difficult to have just one actor back to play a family member or friend? Did they even try to get Christine Belford back as Kiersten when Rose had a heart attack, instead of that ugly ginger muppet? There were 2 Kates, 2 Dennises, 2 Glorias, 2 Glen O'Briens (Dorothy's married bf), 2 Beckys. And how many fucking next door neighbors did they have? There were the Bartons, Schillers, some little girl named Stacey, O'Briens, Corlisses, and Westons? And did Freida Claxton and the Donaldson boys live next door at one time too? Fuck dat shit!

by Anonymousreply 238March 31, 2018 3:07 PM

Sophia's husband was the same throughout the series, right? So if you're looking just for ONE, there.

by Anonymousreply 239March 31, 2018 3:10 PM

That always bothered me too, R238.Considering they brought so many of the same actors back to play different parts, it seems ridiculous that they couldn't bring back the same actors to play the same part. At least Michael was always the same.

by Anonymousreply 240March 31, 2018 5:46 PM

How old was Janet supposed to be? In the first season, you got the impression she was at least in her mid-30s, as she had that bratty teen David. Seven years later she appears with little Sarah, and the actress is clearly late 20s/early 30s at best.

by Anonymousreply 241March 31, 2018 5:49 PM

No, Rose, the Katzenjammer kids!

by Anonymousreply 242April 2, 2018 2:21 PM

Rose’s mom alma wasn’t old enough to portray rose’s mother.

by Anonymousreply 243April 2, 2018 2:30 PM

Jeanette Nolan, who played Alma, was only 11 years older than Betty White. They obviously made her up to look older, with that awful rat's nest wig and that old lady hat and prairie dress.

by Anonymousreply 244April 2, 2018 2:33 PM

That episode was just on Hallmark, R244. As was the one where they get robbed and Rose gets a gun.

I don't know whether the robbery one is one of the best or worst. It features a ridiculously hammy scene from White as she has her meltdown about living in fear. But it also has the scene filmed in the parking garage where White tries to outrun a male stranger. It's supposed to be suspenseful, but never fails to make me laugh. The only problem, I guess, is that they weren't going for humor in that scene, but... I mean, come on.

by Anonymousreply 249April 4, 2018 12:03 PM

Susan Harris cast her in something else the following season (so says Wiki) and that's the season Angelo was introduced.

by Anonymousreply 250April 4, 2018 5:06 PM

Did they have a continuity person at all? I mean, there were continuity issues within episodes! I was watching "The Artist" episode the other night. In an early scene, Blanche is telling Dorothy and Sophia about how wonderful it is to pose nude for Laslo. In a later scene, Rose tells Sophia that Laslo is a sculptor they've been posing nude for, and Sophia acts all shocked.

by Anonymousreply 251April 4, 2018 5:12 PM

Wow, R251! Problems with continuity in "The Golden Girls" is a great idea for a thread! You should really start one!

by Anonymousreply 252April 4, 2018 5:52 PM

The pilot is a continuity mess, probably because they had to reshoot certain scenes after they axed Charles Levin (Coco) and made Estelle more prominent. In the scene when Sophia shows up, she tells only Dorothy and Rose that Shady Pines had burned down. Blanche wasn't present. A few minutes later in the same scene, Blanche tells her fiance Harry that "Sophia's home just burned down." There's no way Blanche could've known that. That was very sloppy. Not to mention Rue's different hair-dos depending on when a take was done before or after Levin's firing.

by Anonymousreply 253April 4, 2018 6:29 PM

R247, Sofia got it on all the time. The Japanese snail removing driveway cleaner? "Afterglow"? Fidel??? Trust me, Sofia got her sex on.

by Anonymousreply 254April 4, 2018 6:48 PM

No one really cared that the show had continuity issues, people just wanted to see these four great ladies.

[quote]Who has a freaking fireplace in Miami?

A lot of people. The "frost line" in Florida is a line drawn from Fort Myers to West Palm Beach, south of that line, it's very unusual to freeze, but it does.

A lot of homes, may not use their central heating but need a quick warm. When I lived in Naples and West Palm Beach, the thing that I hated was in Jan and Feb it would get down to 40 degrees at night and then zoom up to 85 or even 90 during the day, then plunge back.

It was hard to take the variation during those months. So a fireplace would be useful to quickly warm up the room, the same way people use space heaters. Of course you all remember the Nixon controversy when he was caught using a fireplace WITH air conditioning in the White House.

Mama's Boy is an American sitcom that aired from September 19, 1987 until August 6, 1988. It was created by Susan Harris, and produced by Witt/Thomas/Harris Productions and Touchstone Television. The comedy starred Bruce Weitz and Nancy Walker in the lead roles.

A newspaper columnist shares a New York apartment with his mother.

Weitz and Walker received this series in response to their recent popular NBC roles: his seven-year run as Det. Mick Belker on Hill Street Blues, and her two-time guest role as Angela, sister of Sophia Petrillo

May have been mentioned, but Dorothy got married/gave birth soon after High School graduation. Yet she had lesbian college roommate Jean???? She left stan and the kid to go live in the Brooklyn College (did they ever confirm that?) dorms (which may not even exist!!!)

How many siblings did Rose have? In one episode, she says she is one of nine children. In another episode, Dorothy mentions that Rose has seven brothers. So Rose+Lily+Holly+7 brothers=10 kids. So which was it...nine or ten?

by Anonymousreply 276April 11, 2018 4:26 PM

R276 in Rose logic, that could mean there was a set of Siamese twins or she considered one of the cows as a sibling.

by Anonymousreply 283April 12, 2018 4:04 AM

Well, I guess there's a chance that they were "inseparable for weeks" could refer to a period a month or two (or more) before the banquet. Blanche is savvy.

2. R10 renting homes in the suburbs in South Florida is VERY common. Do not speak of what you do not know.

by Anonymousreply 286April 21, 2018 12:28 AM

by Anonymousreply 288April 21, 2018 1:56 AM

Alligators are more of a threat now than they were in the 80s. They are getting displaced. The more they get displaced the more they show up in "suburbia"

by Anonymousreply 296April 22, 2018 8:58 PM

R293 Where did it turn up?

by Anonymousreply 297April 22, 2018 9:08 PM

The episode Bedtime Story, where they reminisce about memorable awkward sleeping arrangements, opens with Sophia in the kitchen stirring pots on the stove. Blanche enters and asks what she’s doing, and Sophia answers that she wasn’t able to sleep, so naturally she decided to go into the kitchen and prepare 3 pots of pasta (sausage and peppers, pasta pesto, and ZITI with oil and gahrlic) in the middle of the night for a house full of sleeping women. Seems like all that food would wind up in the garbage can unless her three roomates coincidentally decided to all get out of bed in the middle of the night to reminisce about awkward sleeping arrangements.

Also I highly doubt that it is ever cold enough in Miami that four women would need to squeeze into one queen size bed to avoid freezing, as they do in one aforementioned reminiscence.

by Anonymousreply 298April 22, 2018 9:37 PM

In the HIV episode, Blanche confided in Rose that she had gotten tested for HIV in the past.

by Anonymousreply 299April 22, 2018 11:54 PM

I always assumed that George and Blanche had lived in that house long before he died. Yet when the fatso daughter visited, she told Blanche that "oh mama, I just love your house," the implication being that she had never been there before. And if she did buy the house after George's death, then it makes no sense that she could afford a sprawling house in Miami yet can barely afford a patch job on the roof. None of that made a lick of sense.

by Anonymousreply 310April 27, 2018 1:45 PM

Maybe Blanche had lots of money tied up in investments?

by Anonymousreply 311April 27, 2018 1:51 PM

Barbara Thorndyke did have a point. She was tolerating the evening with the insufferable Rose and Blanche, so would it have killed Dorothy to reciprocate and tolerate the Mortimer Club's policy for just one night? That's what friends do for one another.

by Anonymousreply 318April 27, 2018 8:10 PM

[quote]Why were these women even friends? They came from completely different backgrounds, had nothing in common, and constantly belittled one another.

This was addressed in a flashback episode when the girls all agreed they should not be roommates and then started talking around the kitchen table and laughing and then Blanche said, "I haven't had this good a time without a man in years," thus realizing despite being vastly difference the ability to make each other laugh and to have support would override their differences.

R329 is right. The episode where Blanche handcuffed herself to the radiator made no sense. The blew up that place with furniture and light fixtures attached. Blanche would have rented a truck and made the girls move that shit out.

by Anonymousreply 332May 3, 2018 1:53 AM

Blanche didn't need that furniture - she likes wicker! Enough wicker!

by Anonymousreply 333May 3, 2018 1:55 AM

They obviously had no one checking continuity WITHIN episodes. In the episode where Blanche decides to have plastic surgery, Rose is making a movie for her junior college. Yet, later in the episode, she mentions that she was in a sorority (the alpha yams) when she went to college. If she went to college ages ago, why would she now be in a junior college?

by Anonymousreply 334May 3, 2018 2:07 AM

I just watched the "Dorothy is a gambler again" episode last night. Rose gives Dorothy her bank card & to take out as much as she needs.

This is unrealistic in at least 2 ways=

1 = "No questions asked" - Who lets someone just use their card without telling them how much is in their bank account? If Rose knew she was using it to pay off her gambling debts as she later claimed, how did she know the amount wasn't say over $10,000.00 instead of the $250.00 Dorothy asks for? She knew Dorothy was lying when she said it was to pay the paper boy. Dorothy could have been lying about the $250.00 amount as well. If Dorothy needed say $10,000.00 she couldn't have used her paper boy excuse even on someone as dumb as Rose.

2 = "Suddenly unlimited bank account funds" - Rose & the others had troubling paying for a new roof, bail for when they went to jail & other bills not to mention both Dorothy & Rose have been between jobs during the series run on at least once occasion apiece yet Rose suddenly has a seemingly unlimited bank account for Dorothy to borrow from.

3 = " Rose's cruel trick to Dorothy" - It seemed unrealistic cruel for Rose to say Dorothy could use her card to pay off her gambling debts with it only to get to the bank & not be able to use it (since Rose forgot she wrote her PIN number on the card for easy use). Didn't Rose realize if Dorothy gave up trying to find a legitimate way to come up with the money she could have had serious harm done to her by those who were owed the money?

Letting a "best friend" (as Rose says who is like a sister to her) think her financial problems are quickly solved when they weren't seems like a mean trick to play on someone even if they are a gambling addict. What a way for Rose to waste valuable time for Dorothy to come up with the cash. If I was her, I would've kicked Ms. Nylund's ass across the street.

by Anonymousreply 335May 3, 2018 3:27 AM

The episode where Rose and Blanche are in Cats. The episode begins with them returning from the audition, telling Dorothy she should've auditioned. Hours later they rush to see Sophia at the hospital in full Cats costumes. Time is thrown out the window.

Rose coaching pee wee football. Huh?

Dorothy's friend successfully fakes her own death on the tennis court. No paramedics were called? Or fake paramedics were hired to be in on the joke?

The fake murder during the murder mystery weekend. Blanche's boss played convincingly dead at that close of range?

by Anonymousreply 336May 3, 2018 3:48 AM

The “supermarket” they shopped in was a real strange looking dump. Sometimes “the A&P” was mentioned although that chain wasn’t in Florida even in the 80s. Publix never got a mention although that was where everyone shopped in Florida- then and now.

by Anonymousreply 337May 3, 2018 3:55 AM

Blanche bought panty hose in the supermarket? Sure!

by Anonymousreply 338May 3, 2018 4:00 AM

Dorothy's son Michael is mentioned in a flashback to 1954 but when appears in present time (late1980s) he's in his twenties.

Blanches gay brother Clayton is only ever mentioned in the two episodes he appears in. Blanche often mentions her sisters Charmaine and Virginia and at those times you get the sense it was just the three of them.

Rose's family when they come to visit all seem fairly sane and normal. It's difficult to picture them living in the wacky town of St. Olaf, particularly the actresses cast as her daughters and mother.

by Anonymousreply 340May 3, 2018 2:48 PM

^The script called for her to say "you disgusted me!", but Bea misread the cue card.

by Anonymousreply 341May 3, 2018 2:58 PM

[quote]Was the name of the baby that Dorothy had from her shotgun wedding to Stanley and who later died in infancy ever revealed?

It was Sheba

by Anonymousreply 342May 3, 2018 3:49 PM

[quote]sometimes “the A&P” was mentioned although that chain wasn’t in Florida even in the 80s.

Actually A&P's last store in Florida closed in 1987. A&P pulled out of Florida by the end of the 70s but they re-entered (mostly under Family Mart), then they pull out by 1987 again.

Winn-Dixie was a total dump and in Florida at the time. I remember Publix was awesome, but Winn-Dixie was far worse than what was shown on those episodes.

[quote]Why was wealthy Blanche (she came from money and married money) taking in roommates in the first place? The whole premise of the show makes no sense.

The finances of the ladies was always inconsistent, depending on the plot. Perhaps Blanche had cash flow problems whereas she had the money tied up or was in a trust (ala Lucy Carmichael vs Mr Mooney)

by Anonymousreply 344May 3, 2018 4:07 PM

In the episode where Michael visits for the first time and fucks Rose's daughter, Rose greets him by telling him that Dorothy has told her and Blanche so much about him. But, curiously, she then asks him where he goes to school, and Blanche sounded shocked that he plays jazz. So, if Dorothy had told them all about Michael, wouldn't they already know he didn't go to college and that he played in a jazz group for a living?

by Anonymousreply 345May 5, 2018 4:13 PM

[quote]So, if Dorothy had told them all about Michael, wouldn't they already know he didn't go to college and that he played in a jazz group for a living?

Dorothy told them her son was a musician and Blanche being a snob assumed the symphony and Rose being simply assumed an organ grinder.

by Anonymousreply 346May 5, 2018 5:52 PM

They always portrayed Dorothy’s sister Gloria as this really beautiful and glamorous woman who married well because of her looks. However the two actresses that played Gloria were just as or slightly more attractive than Dorothy. I thought rose’s sister holly would’ve been a more accurate casting choice. Inga Swenson was pretty and was similar in height to bea Arthur

by Anonymousreply 347May 5, 2018 5:57 PM

^Yeah but Inga Swenson didn't look or sound like she came from anywhere near Brooklyn.

by Anonymousreply 348May 5, 2018 5:58 PM

I didn’t think Doris bellack did either but she was the better Gloria. The second Gloria was kind of dumpy looking as was the second Kirsten

by Anonymousreply 349May 5, 2018 7:13 PM

Why did the Japanese team make an offer to Steve the baseball player Blanche was training? At his age?

by Anonymousreply 350May 5, 2018 8:51 PM

R325 they were alluding to the Everglades Club in Palm Beach which was notoriously restricted

by Anonymousreply 351May 5, 2018 9:02 PM

R335 I think Rose was trying to draw the point that, had Dorothy willing used the card to gamble more with, Dorothy would have been disgusted with how low she'd sank.

I don't think we were given the sense Dorothy owed debts to any heavies who were going to beat an old granny up. And didn't Rose say that card wouldn't work anyway so she wasn't risking any money

by Anonymousreply 352May 6, 2018 11:46 AM

R335 completely missed the point of what Rose was doing.

by Anonymousreply 353May 6, 2018 12:03 PM

[quote]Blanche would have rented a truck and made the girls move that shit out.

She absolutely would not have. She would’ve had Dorothy make Sophia move the furniture.

by Anonymousreply 354May 6, 2018 12:04 PM

I didn't like the episode where Dorothy eats Blanche's pussy while Rose and Sophia sit, watch and flick their beans. Totally unrealistic.

by Anonymousreply 355May 6, 2018 12:30 PM

R334 Yes, Rose referenced going to college but she didn't say she graduated college. So it would make sense that she was attending junior college later on.

by Anonymousreply 356May 6, 2018 2:07 PM

I have always wondered whose Boeing 727 that is on approach to MIA on the opening scene. My guess would be Eastern as they dominated MIA at that time

by Anonymousreply 357May 6, 2018 2:15 PM

Blanche referenced having at least 6 or 7 kids. It's difficult to believe that someone as hyper-narcissistic as Blanche would choose to bear that many kids and risk her body being shot to hell.

by Anonymousreply 358May 6, 2018 2:24 PM

Why would Rose be attending college, junior or otherwise, if she never finished high school? Remember she got mono from working at a kissing booth and missed the last half of her senior year.

by Anonymousreply 359May 6, 2018 2:47 PM

I suppose it's completely unrealistic to think these lame ass GG threads will be disappearing any time soon, at least not until the geriatric queens pass on to the big Shady Pines in the sky.

by Anonymousreply 360May 6, 2018 2:50 PM

It's odd how there were so many continuity issues with the big stuff like siblings, children, and finances, yet they maintained continuity with totally random stuff, such as Blanche mentioning in at least three episodes that she'd attended Miss McGuyver's finishing school.

by Anonymousreply 361May 6, 2018 2:52 PM

r360, i hope you pass on to the big Shady Pines in the ground soon.

by Anonymousreply 362May 6, 2018 3:13 PM

And yet, R360, you just had to click on it and post something. Says a lot about you.

by Anonymousreply 363May 6, 2018 4:21 PM

R351 so why not just make the club in PB instead of Miami? It's less than an hour away. Miami is simply not believable for any kind of restricted anything.

by Anonymousreply 364May 6, 2018 5:31 PM

Why would Jean want to eat Rose’s pussy when she was friends with Dorothy?

by Anonymousreply 365May 6, 2018 9:00 PM

Dorothy didn't have a pussy.

by Anonymousreply 366May 6, 2018 9:32 PM

Blanche never would have worn a dress like this.

How does Sophia pay her rent? How does she come up with her share when Blanche agrees to sell part ownership to the girls?

by Anonymousreply 368May 6, 2018 9:55 PM

She sells baconlettuceandpotato sandwiches.

by Anonymousreply 369May 6, 2018 10:27 PM

None of these old bags developed diabetes or any other diseases from subsisting on junk food like cheese cake, ice cream, chips ahoy, etc.?

by Anonymousreply 370May 7, 2018 1:23 PM

[quote]How does Sophia pay her rent? How does she come up with her share when Blanche agrees to sell part ownership to the girls?

By overcharging for hand jobs at the Senior Center.

by Anonymousreply 371May 7, 2018 3:42 PM

[quote]How does Sophia pay her rent?

She gets social security, remember the episode where SS was overpaying her?

[quote]Blanche referenced having at least 6 or 7 kids.

Blanche makes references to her children as: Janet, Rebecca, Mathew, Doug, "Biff", and "Skippy".

But in other episodes she says she has four children. This makes it possible that "Biff" and "Skippy" were nicknames for Matthew and Doug respectively. And she has a step-son of sorts called David (played by Mark Moses) from George's affair

by Anonymousreply 372May 7, 2018 5:16 PM

Blanche's grandson, David was said to 14 at the time, which would have made him born in 1971.

This would have made Blanche a grandmother at 39 or 40 years old, which means that Janet was most likely a teenage mother.

by Anonymousreply 373May 7, 2018 5:18 PM

That Blanche was still having periods up until season 2

by Anonymousreply 374May 7, 2018 5:23 PM

I'd find it more realistic if each tale was just in Jessica's imagaination and instead of this fabulously exciting life she worked as a chambermaid at Hillhouse Inn

by Anonymousreply 375May 7, 2018 6:00 PM

they all dressed to the 9's but were not "wealthy women" except for maybe for the slut.

by Anonymousreply 376May 8, 2018 12:48 PM

dumb boring

by Anonymousreply 377November 28, 2019 3:31 PM

I’m making myself sit through the 72 Hours episode to see if it’s as bad as I remember and I just realized something: if Blanche had had the test before why the hell didn’t she warn Rose that it took 72 hours to get the results back? She just lets Rose go in that doctor’s office oblivious and smiles behind her when she starts freaking out. WTF?

by Anonymousreply 378February 13, 2020 6:20 AM

^Blanche wanted to keep it to herself, tell no one. But when she saw how upset Rose was, Blanche decided to let Rose in on the secret, just between them.

This leads to my favorite lines in the episode-

Rose: How did you deal with it Blanche?

Blanche: Oh, I just kept it to myself and acted like a real bitch to everybody else.

Rose: Well no wonder we never knew!

by Anonymousreply 379February 13, 2020 6:44 AM

r379 but she confided in Rose that she’d had the test herself right before they go in the doctor’s office. So why the hell didn’t she warn her that she wasn’t going to get her results when they walked in the room?

Ugh, now it’s the gambling episode. Season 5 fucking sucked so bad!
