BEACH HOUSE -- "LEMON GLOW"
Glad to see a fellow Beach House fan on DL! I love the new song and hope the new album is as good as Depression Cherry and Thank Your Lucky Stars.

OP, I love these types of threads. As a teenager and 20-something I was always on top of the latest band du jour. Now in my 30s I just can't keep up. I always use those "best of the year" type lists to catch up, but no reason why we can't start the process early!
I literally had no idea there was a new Beach House album until seeing your post. Love their dreamy sound.
Here are a few from this year I've been enjoying....

This might be the best song this year (so far)...

This is the best artist I've found in several years, she is from Iceland. The songs are rather melancholic but inventive.

I barely recognize APTBS at R15. Glad to hear they’re trying something that doesn’t involve 10,000 distortion pedals. It was getting really dull.
I never much cared for Beach House, but am enjoying the tracks shared here.

R30, I don't entirely disagree.... they were getting a bit samey. I didn't realize that one of the lead guys in APTBS was actually the creator/specialty manufacturer of custom distortion pedals (used by them and sold to much bigger acts as well), so I guess you gotta keep using your own products. LOL. I definitely prefer their earlier albums, which I think are as good as My Bloody Valentine's best stuff. Have you ever seen them live? I'd love to, though I'm guessing ear plugs are a good idea.

“No Roots”

R33 yeah those first records were great and exciting. I should probably give the later ones another listen, but at the time it just felt like they were working the same ground over and over. I never saw them live unfortunately. In addition to making those insane effects pedals I think they ran a venue out in Brooklyn.

R35 -- you clearly have good taste. Are there any other bands/albums you'd recommend for a fan of that early APTBS sound? The thing that I think I liked about those early albums of their's was that no matter how loud they got -- and, boy, did they ever -- they never forgot to keep it... well... sexy. I know that sounds so cheesy, but I think you know what I mean. I could never do most "noise rock', but the way APTBS marries that very loud, raw sound with slinky beats and that propulsive drive just works for me. (sorry for the sidebar, folks, but it's not often one encounters an APTBS fan on a gay messageboard)

I’ll try and pick through my library and get back to you with some suggestions R36. Maybe someone will start a thread for the noisier end of music.
Meanwhile, I’ve been enjoying the 3 piece band Khruangbin from Texas. A lot of it is mellow and sparse though they sometimes veer into funk territory. The reverby guitar reminds me of calm summer evenings.

I've contributed to and enjoyed some stuff on this thread, though I don't entirely disagree with R43. I do think Indie/alternative whatever you want to call it was, overall, stronger in the 90s and early to mid 2000s. It does seem like production and soundscapes are king these days and, often, songcraft is a distant second. Still, you can start a thread for favorite indie songs of the 90s or 2000s, this thread is about the present, so let's enjoy the good stuff coming out today even if it isn't as plentiful as the prior two decades.

Oneohtrix Point Never's new album disappointed me (especially after the revelation that was G.o.D) but there were a couple standout tracks from it nonetheless. OPN + Anonhi on "Same" is a favorite. "Raycats" too.
Check out the tracks on Spotify if you're an adventurous listener with an ear for experimental electronic music.

Maybe they are, maybe they're not.
Anyhow, I'm a young millennial (25) and am in total agreement with them. I just can't relate to the so-called music of my generation, for most part. It's so dreary and listless. Sonic Xanax.
