Well, it’s new.
Kylie Minogue’s new single ‘Dancing’ is... *ahem...

hahahahahaha
by Anonymous | reply 1 | January 19, 2018 1:23 AM |
What's the word on the album? Is it all this sort of mid-tempo folk pop country-adjacent sound?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | January 19, 2018 1:27 AM |
Reminds me of Avici's Wake Me Up. Maybe because of the guitars at the beginning.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | January 19, 2018 1:28 AM |
She was supposedly working with some of the producers from Fever, but someone here mentioned it was going to be a country-ish album, unfortunately.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 19, 2018 1:30 AM |
Countryish, according to hunky pop-music writer Bradley Stern:
by Anonymous | reply 5 | January 19, 2018 1:35 AM |
I like my Kylie in dance-pop flavor. Hopefully a remix is coming soon.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 19, 2018 1:35 AM |
Kylie, another "Fever", "Body Language", or even "X", please.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 19, 2018 1:42 AM |
Hated the one dance album where she sounded like Dragonette. I mean I like Dragonette, but when I want to listen to Kylie I want to listen to Kylie not some autotune mess that makes her sound like the Dragonette singer.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 19, 2018 1:51 AM |
Bet some kuntry kween covers it ... Reba?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 19, 2018 2:21 AM |
It sounds like the Love child of Madonna’s Music and Dolly Parton, both of whom I love, but I need Kylie for some serious dance music.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 19, 2018 3:36 AM |
Madonna's now doing another urban album, working with Pharrell and rapper Starrah.
Kylie and Madonna are two broads who need to hang it up already. Enough.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 19, 2018 3:57 AM |
Well that's dreadful. What is she thinking? Did she even listen to it?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 19, 2018 4:25 AM |
It is an interesting hybrid of early 70's folk and dance, but it doesn't quite work. The production isn't good enough to pull it off, and the tremolo effect in the chorus is annoying. It could have been good, but it misses the mark.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 19, 2018 4:55 AM |
I wasn't thrilled the first time I heard Dancing, as I was hoping that at this stage in her career, she might go bold, left-field and even a bit arty -- but I guess she saves that stuff for the EPs and side projects. But, I have to admit that after a few listens, it's starting to work for me. I definitely think the verses and bridge are stronger than the chorus. I like the double-meaning of 'going out'.
The fact that she's got a song that kind of references death and that she's named her album 'Golden' as she approaches 50, also suggest that, unlike Madonna, she's going to embrace her age. That actually seems really smart. What other pop singer in her third decade of releasing music does that?
And, if she's going to go Country(ish), I'm digging the styling...
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 19, 2018 6:08 AM |
Nah. A good Kylie song works on the first listen and within the first verse - link - chorus. Will also have a strong intro.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 19, 2018 7:55 AM |
Oh yeah, that hooked me on the second listen. She always seems to get good advice. It's very short song, quite catchy. Probably will feature a slightly jammier version for a video. I'm not sure how they compile AC Country charts but it would be hilarious if this song did get on there.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 19, 2018 8:38 AM |
Yes it has more hooks than a new mushy hamburger concoction at McDonalds.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 19, 2018 8:49 AM |
Kylie and Madonna need to lay off the rent-a-rapper nonsense. No more. It didn't work roe either, and won't work ever. They need to know their core fan base isn't interested in any kind of rap.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 19, 2018 9:30 PM |
Corny

by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 19, 2018 10:08 PM |
Good not great.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | January 19, 2018 10:10 PM |
R18 - um, what? Did I miss the rap version of this song? Also, when has Kylie ever had a duet with a rapper?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | January 20, 2018 1:38 AM |
The New song is OK - I wish she would just re-release Better The Devil You Know every few years instead.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 20, 2018 1:42 AM |
Don't Australians love Country? I mean, they're basically British hillbillies.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 20, 2018 1:45 AM |
This song is a mess. Trying to combine old country and dance is tough. This one doesn't pull it off. I think one of her gays must be on a cowboy kick. She's a bit over styled. Still love her, and good for her for taking a chance on something new.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | January 20, 2018 3:03 AM |
I liked Inga's 1990 attempt at a Euro Country Hybrid - not one for the purists.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 20, 2018 8:28 AM |
It gets better after multiple listens.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 20, 2018 8:55 AM |
Didn’t love it at first listen, but now a couple days later, the song is growing on me.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 20, 2018 9:00 AM |
First listen, I love it.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | January 20, 2018 9:12 AM |
I love it. I haven't loved a song of hers (as a casual fan) for awhile (maybe 10 years or so). This is very catchy.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | January 20, 2018 9:29 AM |
Hear hear r18.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | January 20, 2018 10:21 AM |
You don't have to go that far back for arty or slightly left-field weird pop Kylie
by Anonymous | reply 33 | January 20, 2018 5:11 PM |
...but of course the boldest stuff is mostly saved for B-sides and (barely) released tracks...
by Anonymous | reply 34 | January 20, 2018 5:14 PM |
^ I LOVE that Deadmau5 track! Shame it wasn't released as a single.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | January 20, 2018 10:16 PM |
R22 I wasn't referring to this current song having a rapper, but she has dipped into the rent-a-rapper trend, here's "Back and White", the mess kicks in at 1:48. I'm just hoping she never repeats it.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | January 21, 2018 6:11 PM |
R34: that’s a great tune. Thanks for sharing!
by Anonymous | reply 37 | January 21, 2018 6:31 PM |
"Dancing" is growing on me, but I love High Dance-Remix Diva Kylie just a little bit more.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | January 21, 2018 6:35 PM |
I actually loved this (first listen), and I am neither a country nor really a Kylie fan. I may buy the album. Those of you who liked this, what are the other songs on the album like?
by Anonymous | reply 39 | January 21, 2018 6:47 PM |
Jesus, R36. One duet with a rapper in a 30+ year career on a blink and you miss it side project released between albums?
Let me guess, some of your "best friends are black, but... "
by Anonymous | reply 40 | January 21, 2018 6:47 PM |
No, not gonna lie, R40, none of my best friends are black big guy, and I hate rap.

Pop artist are trying to find new directions, gen z don't give a shit about hipster hop or urban hipster indie. Mills are all in their late 20s or 30s . CropUSA are already looking at new demographics and all my nieces and nephews and their friends (all gen z) do not listen to "urban" music. Most listen to late 70s, 80s 90s music. Sorry Mill hipsters your time is coming to an end. get ready to become irrelevant.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | January 21, 2018 7:21 PM |
Why are you privileging the opinions of ignorant teens and twenty-somethings over those of older people? They know much less and have little discernment.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | January 21, 2018 7:51 PM |
LOVE Kylie but she hasn't had a major number 1 hit in nearly 15 years since Slow came out.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | January 21, 2018 10:58 PM |
Wow R45, I had to look that up, you're right.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | January 21, 2018 11:24 PM |
Sounded fine to me. Nice melody with an optimistic feel. Much better than another robotic dance track.

Kylie lost her mojo after "Aphrodite." That was a great CD and the tour was awesome. I havent enjoyed any of her music since, except the Giorgio Moroder track.

It's shite.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | February 3, 2018 2:14 AM |
Kylie has always been bargain basement Madonna. Now that the real Madonna is somewhat bargain basement we just don't need Kylie.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | February 3, 2018 2:22 AM |
Except that Kylie is still gorgeous and adorable, and without the numerous personality disorders.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | February 3, 2018 2:31 AM |
I personally disagree with r54. I enjoyed the 'Kiss Me Once' album more than 'Aphrodite'. I kind of like 'Dancing' and I'm curious to hear more from this new album.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | February 3, 2018 2:34 AM |
Madonna did it better with "Don't Tell Me." Even the video has cowboys in it.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | February 6, 2018 1:50 PM |
I find this song insanely catchy and better than any of her songs from the past decade. Unfortunately despite over a million youtube views in a couple of days and good radio play it seems to have fallen out of the UK top 50 (but this may be because just the song is re-charting for video). I would have thought UK top ten hit would have seemed pretty certain, if not in Australia too.
[quote] I actually loved this (first listen), and I am neither a country nor really a Kylie fan. I may buy the album. Those of you who liked this, what are the other songs on the album like?
She recorded it in Nashville, so judging by this and the track listing the entire collection will have a country flavor.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | February 6, 2018 4:03 PM |
R62 - I think her single charting days are behind her, especially since chart position is now based upon a hybrid of sales and streaming and streaming tends to favor younger artists. I imagine when the album drops (is it really not being released until APRIL?) it will sell well -- top 5 in UK and AUS -- but like most acts today, she'll have the majority of her success in live shows.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | February 6, 2018 6:42 PM |
Kylie dear, no, just no.....
by Anonymous | reply 64 | February 7, 2018 1:51 AM |
Madonna at R64 - you got nothing to say. Your current output is worse.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | February 7, 2018 1:54 AM |
Madonna totally wins this, but thanks for playing, Kylie.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | February 7, 2018 2:11 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 67 | February 7, 2018 2:32 AM |
Floppy-Flop.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | February 7, 2018 8:55 AM |
She's an old lady now. Looks like the glass ceiling will be lowered to people hitting their 30s next.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | February 7, 2018 10:22 AM |
Jesus, R40, there are several songs with Kylie and a rapper. Shut up and stop embarrassing yourself. She had a track with some fool called Mims and "Shocked" back in her SAW days also featured a rapper.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | February 7, 2018 10:47 AM |
Yeah whether they get a guest rapper in or do it themselves or just talk at some point in the song...just no.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | February 7, 2018 11:50 AM |
She needs to stick with the campy fun dance tunes that we've kept her around for. Don't go messing with the recipe that we love, Kylie.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | February 8, 2018 1:37 AM |
I gotta say the song's grown on me. And, R72, I'd say this one's plenty camp. In fact, I was hoping for something a little edgier at this stage in her career... ala the still brilliant Slow.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | February 8, 2018 2:38 AM |
Love SLOW, one of my favorites.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | February 8, 2018 8:59 PM |
I’ve tried but have never been able to get into her. Her lyrics are always so surface-level and I can like a song or two, but then I max out on vapid. I don’t understand why Sophie Ellis-Bextor never rose to Kylie level at least in the US.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | February 9, 2018 12:17 AM |
I love SEB, but let's not act like her music is Shakespeare set to music either. Lest you forget "I'll still change my underwear if that's OK with you."
by Anonymous | reply 76 | February 9, 2018 12:22 AM |
At those prices I'll stand outside the venue and hope I can hear.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | February 22, 2018 5:03 AM |
That was fun R79
by Anonymous | reply 80 | March 4, 2018 3:52 AM |
Apparently her second single from this new album is a Reggaeton duet. So, guess she's trying it all.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | March 4, 2018 4:36 AM |
Because it's Kylie, I think fans are trying to be nice. But there seems to be little excitement over this album. The songs aren't bad but they're not outstanding. Maybe they'll be growers.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | April 1, 2018 5:33 AM |
It’s so great that these performers feel they hafta keep delivering the goods! I mean - fifty something - but like most dataloungers - with enough makeup and a few discreet procedures, the right lighting - and maybe some CGI! - they can pass as twenty-something! It’s a miracle! To be eternally young and luscious!
And I say good on her! It’s important she gets as much dancing in now before those brittle bones start to cramp one’s style! I mean - years of staying model-thin tend to play havoc with bone density and calcium uptake - so just keep dancing! - while you still can...
Really - unless you’re performing until the very end - just like Marlene! - then what’s the point of being in the biz? You can sleep when you die...
Just. Keep. Dancin’.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | April 1, 2018 6:40 AM |
R84, I think that's the point of the song... "when I go out [as in, when I kick the bucket].... I wanna go out dancing"
by Anonymous | reply 85 | April 1, 2018 8:10 AM |
I actually love all three songs released and I am not really a Kylie fan. The Stop Me from Falling one is the best so far. I like the slight melancholy mixed with disco country. Kind of reminds me of that old song Steal Away or even Odyssey.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | April 1, 2018 9:43 AM |
Yeah, I like ^that one more that Raining Glitter which feels a little flat. She really does that mix of melancholy and euphoria so well
