Your Tongue and Acidic Juices
Does anyone else avoid acidic fruit juices because of the havoc they play with the "hairs" on your tongue?
Grape juice (100%) and grapefruit juice often cause patches devoid of "hairs", usually along the sides of my tongue.
I have no idea what proper name for the white "hairs" on the tongue is, but you all know to what I am referring.

You mean gustatory hair? That's oddly specific; people usually talk about foods fucking up their taste buds, not just that particular part of a taste bud.
And yes, grapefruit juice definitely interferes with them but it's so beneficial to your body and the effect doesn't last long anyway. Try swishing water in your mouth afterwards if it really bothers you. Or use a straw to avoid the tongue entirely.
I have similar problems with pineapples and also avocados that aren't ripe enough. Blech!

r1 -- do you think if I gargle with a weak lye solution it'll counteract the acid?

Is this really an issue?
Do normal people have to worry about this seemingly-tiny issue?
