I tried to explain DL to a friend, and he wasn't getting it. He thought the site was confusing and didn't like all the scrolling or whatever. He's not big on celeb new anyway.

We are both quant people - so I made him some graphs... don't take this as gospel (it's not even in excel or any proper software). It was more of a joke... but ... there's some truth, isn't there? I should've done them for age and sense of humor too, because those are just as important.

To clarify this, there are 2 IQ curves for DL on the top graph. DL was a bit smarter in the past. You can easily see it by finding old threads. It was also less troll-y and you'll see things like [all posts by tedious racist idiot removed] back then which you do not see now. That helped too.

The second graph is more of a joke. But, basically I'm always amazed by how people online seem totally unhinged and will go on and on about their endless psychiatric problems. In real life, this never happens, though it's not an entirely different population of people (or does the internet attract more mentally ill? It's hard to know). So, it's a misleading chart... but it just reflects some of the trollish / OCD characters here - not serious mental illness per se.

I used to check out D-listed to get celeb gossip and it was okay, some shit and giggles there, but when I found DL by accident while Googling something, I just had to bookmark it and visit daily.

Finally, when I typed the word CUNT in a post without blinking an eye, I felt that this is definitely my kind of place. Also, all the eclectic topics that just keep popping up daily draws me in. There's also a lot of good advice, too.

Agree with R41. There's a big line between pointless bitchery and spitefulness. When DL is on the right side of it - as it often is - it is a thing of joy. I am 52, a left-wing eldergay (a term that is definitely DL on the right side) and a healthy dose of ridicule at our foibles, left and right, is very healthy but there are way too many threads that are just about hatred and division. DL is the little girl with the little curl right in the middle of her forehead.

I found this years ago looking for nonsense on Scott Amedure and Andrew Cunannen. This was before the redesign and man it was tough to page through, so I think that's why I forgot about it. I've been here since 2004, when the Wonkette mentioned DL in her column. At the time, there were separate sections for politics, gossip, and lesbians. And yes, it was much better then, with many more intellectuals and gossip from "industry" insiders gracing the site with their presence.

Still, with my multiple political science degrees and a few years of college teaching under my belt, it is to DL that I come first for all the latest in political gossip, commentary, and insider information. I suppose I trust my gay brothers and sisters more than anyone else to get the goods on people and, as we elders used to say, "Tell it like it is."

That said, I wish all these fucking trolls and Russian bots would cease and desist.

Actually, it makes perfect sense for trolls, Russian, alt-right or otherwise, to post here. This is a very, very loosely-moderated forum. Moderation is, in fact, fairly non-existent. Muriel only really ever steps in when things get too over-the-top.

All other gay forums require usernames and sign-ins, or they immediately block or censor posters who are obvious trolls or who are pushing homophobic, racist, name-calling language, etc. This is really one of the few gay forums where it is open season for everybody to say whatever the hell they want, for better and for worse. No other gay forum really allows trolls this type of platform.

That said, I wouldn't have it any other way. DL posters do a good job self-moderating the forum themselves. Who needs censorship when you can point and laugh at the rightwing trolls and poke endless fun at their expense?
