I would be really cu4ious to see Kevin Spacey's performance if it ever surfaces, but I am certain he would be inferior to Plummer. Not only is Spacey far too young to play the art (and aging makeup can only do so much), he would have played Getty as too snarky (his besetting vice in every even slightly villainous role he has ever played).

It's a weird movie. There's so much that's omitted in the details that you keep wanting to have the spaces filled in. Gail Getty (Michelle Williams) keeps telling everyone repeatedly how broke she is, and yet she speaks with a wealthy patrician accent, turns down all money when people offer to give it to her while bargaining, dresses in the most expensive clothes imaginable, and raises four children in a giant tasteful house in Rome. What was the deal?

Also, in the upcoming series for F/X, J. Paul Getty the 1st's assistant Fletcher Chase as played by Brendar Fraser will apparently be played as a boob (and most people say he was in real life), while in the movie Marky Mark plays Fletcher Chase like a true hero, sympathetic to Gail Getty's quandaries and finally the one to tell off Getty the 1st for what a nasty old skinflint he is.
