The Greely Expedition: a story of Arctic exploration, cannibalism, and possibly homosex

I was watching a thing on PBS about this. Of the 27 men who began the expedition, 6 survived. There was some evidence of cannibalism (flesh had been cut off the bones of at least one of the dead). It's hinted in the PBS documentary that perhaps at least two of them were lovers. I figure there had to be some homosex going on, at least in the beginning, before they'd grown weak and palsied from starvation.

From the diaries:

"Ellison's right foot dropped off this morning, without his knowledge. The fact was carefully concealed from him. One of his fingers fell off a few days ago, and several others will follow in a short time."

Hard pass on cannibalism.

All I can think of is 'full, untrimmed bush'.
