Trump to shield doctors who claim moral objections

The Trump administration is planning new protections for health workers who don't want to perform abortions, refuse to treat transgender patients based on their gender identity or provide other services for which they have moral objections. The HHS office in charge of civil rights would be empowered to further shield these workers and punish organizations that don’t allow them to express their moral objections.

Baby steps towards theocracy. 2021 can't come soon enough.

by Anonymousreply 1January 17, 2018 2:48 PM

Medical ethics are CLEAR that you must treat everyone you can. Will State Medical Boards allow this?

they are hypocrites if they do

by Anonymousreply 2January 17, 2018 2:52 PM

Good, I can stop treating deplorables. They are sub humans and I'm not a veterinarian.

by Anonymousreply 3January 17, 2018 2:53 PM

A doctor is never supposed to judge a patient.

If a horrible criminal needs medical help, a doctor is supposed to provide it.

by Anonymousreply 4January 17, 2018 2:57 PM

moral objection is just another way to say discrimination.

by Anonymousreply 5January 17, 2018 2:57 PM

[quote]If a horrible criminal needs medical help, a doctor is supposed to provide it.

No horrible criminals will be denied care, just abortion seekers and LGBT folks.

by Anonymousreply 6January 17, 2018 3:00 PM

They're feeling very self-righteous that their discrimination will be a direct hit on the LGBTQ community. But every LGBTQ person has friends, relatives, etc. who care about them and will boycott bigots. That's a lot of money lost.

When all the dust settles, someone needs to compile a comprehensive directory of all Hater businesses who discriminate.

by Anonymousreply 7January 19, 2018 12:16 AM

good, let's shield doctors who have a moral objection to pretending that this piece of shit is in excellent health.

by Anonymousreply 8January 19, 2018 12:29 AM

[quote] refuse to treat transgender patients based on their gender identity

I'm not 100% clear on what falls within that clause. A doctor refusing to give normal medical care to someone just because they are a tranny plainly is violating medical ethics, but is that sort of thing actually the issue. Isn't it more probable this is letting the doctor or hospital off the hook from the tranny who wants a medically unnecessary mastectomy or that sort of procedure.

by Anonymousreply 9January 19, 2018 12:37 AM

Acccording to HHS:

You may file a complaint under the Federal Health Care Provider Conscience Protection Statutes if you believe you have experienced discrimination because you:

Objected to, participated in, or refused to participate in specific medical procedures, including abortion and sterilization, and related training and research activities

Were coerced into performing procedures that are against your religious or moral beliefs

Refused to provide health care items or services for the purpose of causing, or assisting in causing, the death of an individual, such as by assisted suicide or euthanasia

by Anonymousreply 10January 19, 2018 12:48 AM

Some states have conscience protection clauses that are used by anti-vaxxer parents.

by Anonymousreply 11January 19, 2018 12:55 AM

So Jevovah Witness doctors and nurses can deny blood transfusions now, right?

by Anonymousreply 12January 19, 2018 12:57 AM

What about County Clerks?

by Anonymousreply 13January 19, 2018 2:44 AM

So hospitals and doctor offices will have to get additional staff on standby in case one of the doctors or nurses refuse to treat a patient? That would be fucked up. Or can they just put a sign at the entrance which sickos will not be treated? Of course it would be easier if undesirables are ordered to wear sympols on their clothing to show right away which kind of undesirable they are and make it easier for them to get denied services?

R9 can you give your anti T derangement a fucking rest?

by Anonymousreply 15January 19, 2018 2:58 AM

r15, don't bother. Trolls always troll. Actual members of the LGBT Community know what's at stake.

by Anonymousreply 16January 19, 2018 3:02 AM

They will try to use this to deny HIV/AIDS care and treatment of other sexually transmitted illnesses. Withold information about safe sexual practices. Deny contraception. Withhold in vitro from the lezzies

by Anonymousreply 17January 19, 2018 3:05 AM

This nurse was on NPR complaining about the the fact that she doesn’t want to be forced to give an abortion or asked about it in an interview.

First of alll, nobody is forcing random nurses to perform abortions. It’s either part of the the job or it’s not. Second of all, a business has the right to know if you are going to cover the job discription. It’s part of the job.

by Anonymousreply 18January 19, 2018 3:05 AM

Like what R9 said. What about doctors that perform mastectomies related to cancer but don't want to do it for transgender patients who don't have cancer?

by Anonymousreply 19January 19, 2018 3:08 AM

Or regular doctors and pediatricians who don't want to administer blockers or hormones to transgender patients as part of their practice?

by Anonymousreply 20January 19, 2018 3:10 AM

R5's point cannot be emphasize enough : moral objection is just another way to say discrimination.

by Anonymousreply 21January 19, 2018 3:19 AM

Since when do nurses “perform abortions”?

by Anonymousreply 22January 19, 2018 3:20 AM

So the old pig who pig off a porn star he had sex with after his wife gave birth to their son, is going to support "moral objections?" LOLOLOLOL!

by Anonymousreply 23January 19, 2018 3:22 AM

So when Trump's McDonald's addiction finally catches up with him and he has a heart attack, the paramedics will be allowed to refrain from saving his life if they believe it would be morally wrong to do so?

by Anonymousreply 24January 19, 2018 3:24 AM

Heard an NPR interview with Roger Severino, the civil rights director at HHS. Sounded slimy and glib. Turns out he was the director of the DeVos Center for Religion and Civil Society at the Heritage Foundation. DeVos. Sounds familiar.

by Anonymousreply 25January 19, 2018 3:54 AM

it's already happened that unmarried pregnant women were denied care by an Ob because of religious reason.

this will make it legal

by Anonymousreply 26January 19, 2018 4:02 AM

R25, it always happens with Republican administrations---the Office of Civil Rights replaces looking at racial and LGBT discrimination and replaced it with religious discrimination, which is just a way to discriminate against LGBT.

Severino is a vocal homophobe. He detests trans.

We all know that Pence is the force behind all of this.

by Anonymousreply 27January 19, 2018 4:05 AM

Injecting people with nontherapeutic hormones is not medical care, it's malpractice.

by Anonymousreply 28January 19, 2018 4:10 AM

No it will not "make it legal." What it means is that the state has now embraced unconstitutional measures and while we still have judges on the bench who are rational we need to get injunctions and fight every fucking thing they are doing. There is no department or cabinet level agency that has not embarked on measures to reverse progress and do harm. The watchdogs in groups around the country need to fight back, push back and expose them. We need to know what these monsters are doing in secret so we can stop them. These people are no different than the Davis bitch who attempted in her capacity as a local public official, to deny marriage licenses to Gay couples. Now they're trying to make it public policy. Let's fuck them up.

by Anonymousreply 29January 19, 2018 12:05 PM

I won't treat you if you're a member of the LGBT community, if you're unmarried and living in sin, if you are on birth control, if you're an atheist, a Muslim, a Jew, or anyone who's not a Christian, if you're taking drugs, or if you're an omnivore (because I am a vegan Christian, dammit!). I also don't think that people should alter the body that God has given them, so I won't give you lifesaving treatments if your tits or hair color are fake. It's also impossible for me to treat liberals, since they support sinners. As you can see, I am a Christian who is very concerned about moral values AKA NEW WAYS TO DISCRIMINATE.

This is another shit idea by the Trump administration. I am looking at you, VP Lego-Head.

by Anonymousreply 30January 19, 2018 12:43 PM

Take comfort in the fact that they have been attempting this for two hundred years or more in one form or another and they may appear to succeed for a short time but with enough exposure and pushback, we can dismantle this bullshit. Plus we are stronger now than we were two or three hundred years ago, and we have more resources. I'm tired of the people who pit us against one another, who are divisive and hater mongering. They are ignorant. They will fail.

by Anonymousreply 31January 19, 2018 12:57 PM

Deplorables only care about themselves. Now JHs can deny anyone and everyone blood transfusions.

This is messed up. However, I do not think that Drs need to perform abortions if they don’t want to. I wouldn’t want to . Gross .

by Anonymousreply 33January 19, 2018 4:52 PM

Stupid hollow gesture. Medical professionals will continue treating all patients. The few who have issues will be weeded out by the culture of caring. It is purely PR to distract and feed the base.
