NY Times reports:
BREAKING: Bannon is subpoenaed by Mueller
by Anonymous | reply 230 | January 20, 2018 12:07 PM |
BIG DEAL. He will only lie. He will lie and want it known so that he can get back into the clutches of cheeto empire.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | January 16, 2018 4:04 PM |
I think he will lie and cover up for trump. But not that Kushner fuck
by Anonymous | reply 2 | January 16, 2018 4:05 PM |
I disagree, R1--I think Bannon's going to hang Trump out to dry as payback.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | January 16, 2018 4:05 PM |
And lying under oath = what R1?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 16, 2018 4:05 PM |
R3, I really hope that you are right. I really do. I just don't see it. He has lost everything, and will do whatever it takes to get back in....but please...be right.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | January 16, 2018 4:07 PM |
R4 I don't really think lying under oath is a concern for this misanthropic cretinous pile of shit.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 16, 2018 4:08 PM |
He was subpoenaed to testify in front of a grand jury. If he lies under oath, he'll be hit with perjury. It's become pretty evident that Mueller's team doesnt take lying lightly.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 16, 2018 4:09 PM |
Don't forget they already have Flynn cooperating, so they'll know if Bannon is lying.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 16, 2018 4:09 PM |
He will need to cooperate and be forthcoming. The book is hanging over his head like the Sword of Damocles.
I suspect he will try to marginalize Trump's guilt, but I think he will be damning re: others. The WH should be very nervous.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 16, 2018 4:09 PM |
Ha. Nice. Let's hope he's still salty af and willing to take Trump down out of spite.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 16, 2018 4:10 PM |
BIG DEAL. He will only lie. He will lie and want it known so that he can get back into the clutches of cheeto empire.
Of course he will. But also keep in mind that Mueller has emails from these fuckwits, and can charge him with perjury if they can catch him in the lie.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 16, 2018 4:10 PM |
I hope Bannon decides that since he went down in flames he might as well take Trump and Co with him. Kind of fits his 'burn it down' manifesto.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 16, 2018 4:12 PM |
He can try to lie, but he has no idea what Mueller knows and can prove. If Mueller can catch him in a lie, it's off to jail he goes.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 16, 2018 4:12 PM |
He must know something. Otherwise, there would be no subpoena- AND he must have done something juicy enough to be court ordered in. I hope I am wrong and he lets his fuckery fly in the face of the fascist pig in the white house. Lets hope.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 16, 2018 4:12 PM |
Also, what a great time to subpoena him. He's on Trump's, the Mercers', and conservatives' shitlist. He's basically an outcast and he seems like one of those vindictive little twats who would try to bring down everyone who wronged him.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 16, 2018 4:13 PM |
I'm not sure Bannon was really in on the loop with Russian contacts. Maybe he was lying, but Michael Wolff's book gives the impression he was flabberghasted when he found out about Junior and Kushner's meeting with the Russians.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 16, 2018 4:13 PM |
What he IS in the loop about is the money laundering. He knows what went on there. He's on the record for saying so, even.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 16, 2018 4:14 PM |
Javanka, you in danger gurl!
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 16, 2018 4:16 PM |
Thanks, Bob. The headlines were getting a bit dry for a second there.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 16, 2018 4:17 PM |
I hope Bannon sings like a canary out of spite. All the turds in Trashy Trump's turd circle deserve everything that's coming to them.
Commie Troll Farm workers, what's the scuttlebutt in Moscow? Are Pupants and the Mercer cunts nervous?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 16, 2018 4:18 PM |
He was also in the loop regarding the Comey firing and potential obstruction of justice.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | January 16, 2018 4:18 PM |
Once Bannon realized the Russian thing was going on, you know he started to poke around and find out as much as he could. He seems to have been irritated by it, which is another potential plus for those of us hoping this helps take Trump down.
I never thought I'd say this, but Bannon, stay alive! At least for a little while.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | January 16, 2018 4:18 PM |
"You realize where this is going. This is all about money laundering. Mueller chose [senior prosecutor Andrew] Weissmann first and he is a money-laundering guy. Their path to fucking Trump goes right through Paul Manafort, Don Jr., and Jared Kushner. . . . It's as plain as a hair on your face. It goes through Deutsche Bank and all the Kushner shit. The Kushner shit is greasy. They're going to go right through that. They're going to roll those . . . guys up and say play me or trade me."
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 16, 2018 4:18 PM |
Yay!! About fucking time. Congressional hearings don't mean shit. I want the real deal.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 16, 2018 4:18 PM |
R17! I think that is exactly what will bring the ahole in the whitehouse down!!! He has been doing it for years. He did NOT get rich by being smart. He got rich by being a criminal who laundered money. Selling those NYC condos for 5x what they were worth.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | January 16, 2018 4:19 PM |
Bingo, R17. The obstruction of justice and collusion charges are very iffy.
The money laundering and racketeering are the money shots. I think Mueller & Co. already know this and that's why they're digging around Trump's finances (which has Trump & Co. shitting bricks).
by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 16, 2018 4:19 PM |
*Turns on Andrea Mitchell*
by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 16, 2018 4:20 PM |
He will lie and want it known so that he can get back into the clutches of cheeto empire.
He'll lie for trump and possibly don jr. But the cheeto empire will never trust him again. I wouldn't either. He'd be dead to me
I have a feeling he will say he doesn't recall to everything or say he was just mad at them and lied to Michael Wolfe
by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 16, 2018 4:20 PM |
Yeah, I do agree that I think the real scandal is the Trump and Kushner finances. If anything will bring them down it is that.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | January 16, 2018 4:21 PM |
I might have been able to have a shred of respect for bannon after the book, but when he did that super embarrassing apology to trump and don jr, he made me sick
by Anonymous | reply 30 | January 16, 2018 4:22 PM |
Yes- the banks. This is what Mueller is focusing on. ANd, you better believe he has Trumps taxes!!!!! Those condo's that he sells for 5 and ten times the price.............HA!!!! He is doing down. Because...he never reported that shit.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | January 16, 2018 4:22 PM |
But some of that money laundering created occasions for collusion, don't you think?
by Anonymous | reply 32 | January 16, 2018 4:23 PM |
R27 - same here!
by Anonymous | reply 33 | January 16, 2018 4:23 PM |
Have you noticed how many stories are coming out that are about the money? The gov of Haiti just said he laundered for their former dictator. Panama.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | January 16, 2018 4:23 PM |
I read somewhere that Trump used his casinos for same. I will look it up see what I can find.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | January 16, 2018 4:26 PM |
R8 and R13, exactly. Bannon is an idiot, but he's not stupid. He knows Mueller and team know way more than they are letting on and that they are about 10 steps ahead of Trump. I'm sure there will be a lot of I don't recalls and extra careful parsing of language, but he's not going to outright lie unless he has a jail wish.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | January 16, 2018 4:27 PM |
Trump can’t be pleased. His lawyers have been telling him that the investigation would be wrapped up any day now followed by his letter of exoneration personally signed by Mueller. 😂
by Anonymous | reply 39 | January 16, 2018 4:29 PM |
Bannon has no cards to play. He will be forced to tell the truth. If he tries to bargain, they'll just throw him in the slammer.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | January 16, 2018 4:29 PM |
Maybe that's why there's been false nuclear missile warnings in Hawaii and now today in Japan. I wouldn't put it past Trump to start a war of distraction.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | January 16, 2018 4:31 PM |
What do we all think addled wet brained Bannon might know??? Laundering? Russians....??
by Anonymous | reply 42 | January 16, 2018 4:34 PM |
It’s over Trumpy-San. Fini. Just quit already and take Mother.... I mean Pence with you. If you love this country like you say, leave and REALLY let us all get back to the business of making this country great.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | January 16, 2018 4:40 PM |
Bannon does not know all the information Mueller has already collected and what all other witnesses so far have fully conveyed. He may do some "I do not recall" or "I did not see that"; however, I doubt he will outright lie and get charged with perjury, particularly if he was not one of the collaborators. He may want to be in Trump's good graces, but he is not going to risk criminal charges in doing so.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | January 16, 2018 4:41 PM |
HOpe you are right, R44. Although, I highly doubt he gives a shit about lying. But, about being arrested. I am sure he does. But, he may lie anyway. We shall see. I hate them all.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | January 16, 2018 4:42 PM |
It depends. Right now I bet Rebekah Mercer is making a call to him to make sure he doesn't say anything to damage the President. Money talks.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | January 16, 2018 4:45 PM |
Nice. Bannon is the kind of guy who likes to play some hardass contrarian but you can tell he is really just self-serving egoist. I don't see him covering up for Trump.
And I think the money laundering and other dirty finances are intertwined with the other criminal( and potentially treasonous) activity. If they follow the money trails enough, they will uncover the truth about russia or at least most of it.
I think Trump and co. was willing to sell USA to Russia in part to help win election (or even just to make Clinton look bad and Trump good, if they didn't really want to win) but also because it was an opportunity to make easy money. Trump already must've had dirty deals in Russia long before his campaign, so it was easy to go with it.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | January 16, 2018 4:46 PM |
I find it hysterical that his fans think he got rich by being "smart' or savvy. He is such a dolt. He got rich by using daddys money to buy real estate and launder money.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | January 16, 2018 4:48 PM |
It depends. Right now I bet Rebekah Mercer is making a call to him to make sure he doesn't say anything to damage the President. Money talks.
And I'm sure there's a warrant to capture such a communication.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | January 16, 2018 4:49 PM |
They would both be stupid to be on the phone talking about lying under oath. I hope bannon spills it all.

by Anonymous | reply 52 | January 16, 2018 4:58 PM |
Donald Trump is a debaser.
He feels good when he is humiliating someone.
Promising someone something if they humiliate themselves for him, then reneging on what was promised,(which doubles the victims’ mortification!) is the unique spin that makes it his signature bit.
We are witnessing the biggest political scandal in history.
It’s astonishing how many citizens have no idea whatsoever that ANYTHING is even happening.
I have to believe that Robert Mueller & hundreds of patriotic civil servants are going to show these criminals that The United States will not be brought down by the likes of them.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | January 16, 2018 5:00 PM |
Seth Abramson on what this means:
What Mueller has done here is directly, publicly and dramatically punished the president for his aggressive self-distancing from Bannon. Mueller is subpoenaing Bannon at the very moment he knows Bannon has nothing left to lose and no loyalty to Trump. It's no accident, either.
The two chief benefits of grand jury testimony versus an informal interview are that the former is under oath and without counsel, which severely limits there being any restrictions whatsoever on the questions. And the grand jury can indict Bannon if he incriminates himself.
So this subpoena is the legal equivalent of direct fire aimed at the president (metaphorically speaking). And the message Mueller is sending Trump is absolutely unmistakable (and chilling to Trump, undoubtedly): I'm coming for you and your family. So this changes some things.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | January 16, 2018 5:02 PM |
Rebekah Mercer and Cambridge Analytica got involved with this mess. They did some dirty activities that don't look legal on surface.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | January 16, 2018 5:04 PM |
When is this supposed to take place?
by Anonymous | reply 56 | January 16, 2018 5:04 PM |
R53 you are absolutely right about just how many people in America have no clue as to what's going on in Washington with this investigation. And not even aware it's taking place. Because my 26 year old brother is one of the who dosent give a fuck about anything except watching basketball day in and day out. And there's people who don't even pay attention to politics in this country until it's to fucking late. And that's how we end up with TRUMP!
by Anonymous | reply 57 | January 16, 2018 5:06 PM |
The truth is, most of Trump's voters have absolutely no idea, nor do they care. They are, as a general group. uneducated and uninformed. They are sheep that listen to mom and dad or fox news.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | January 16, 2018 5:07 PM |
R57 or they listen to Fox News. Murdock gave orders to do propaganda for Trump.

by Anonymous | reply 62 | January 16, 2018 5:10 PM |
I dont think it is checkmate. I think it is just one more piece in the resignation to be puzzle. Probably at least another year.

R74 its too late now.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | January 16, 2018 5:20 PM |
Bannon was about ideology and accumulatIng power and influence. He wasn't interested in Russia, Putin, money laundering, and committing treason, when he got involved. He would though, have had to be very careful not to have been caught up with all the obstruction efforts happening around him.
One believes Bannon and Kellyanne Conway were a couple of the leakers at the behest of the Mercers' agenda.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | January 16, 2018 5:21 PM |
Adam Schiff has "no comment" on Bannon's Congressional interview today...
by Anonymous | reply 77 | January 16, 2018 5:21 PM |
R77, maybe Mr. Schiff will let further information & action come from Mueller?
by Anonymous | reply 78 | January 16, 2018 5:22 PM |
It must suck to be TRUMP with all of this going on. He has everything but he dosent have any peice of internally. And he brought it all on himself. Dumb ass fucker.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | January 16, 2018 5:23 PM |
It is inspiring to watch someone as skilled as Robert Mueller.
Subpoenaing Bannon WHILE he was lying on Capitol Hill is artistry.
Mueller & Co. we’re probably watching C-Span as Bannon perjured himself repeatedly.
Bannon is in some DC hotel bar right now, drinking & SHITTING HIMSELF.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | January 16, 2018 5:27 PM |
R79: AND he never, ever learns. Everytime he semi-attempts to do something semi-right (like that pitiful bipartisan show last week), he fucks it up a few days later. Self sabotage all the way - every day - in every way. Just Sad.

Wolff's book says that everyone -- Bannon, Conway, Kushner, Walsh, Priebus, Trump -- was leaking, all the time, about everyone else, from day one of the administration.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | January 16, 2018 5:34 PM |
R29:
Yeah, I do agree that I think the real scandal is the Trump and Kushner finances. If anything will bring them down it is that.
And I will be thrilled -- jail time or not, I want them exposed for the frauds they are. There is no business acumen other than money laundering your way to wealth.
But won't there be an implicit charge of collusion with a foreign power along with that since they were receiving support from the Russians for their cause?
by Anonymous | reply 85 | January 16, 2018 5:34 PM |

I don't think he will lie. He knows enough to know that lying to Mueller is a prison offense. And I think he's all about saving his own ass. Will he relish some truths more than others? Probably so.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | January 16, 2018 5:46 PM |
R85 It was taxes that finally put away Al Capone, not all his other activities -- yet he is known as a gangster evermore. So let them jail Trump first for tax and money laundering. The rest will come out and be dealt with accordingly.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | January 16, 2018 5:50 PM |
What's funny about Murdoch is that according to the Wolff book Murdoch thought of Trump as a social climbing, nouveau riche upstart and didn't really pay any attention to him or like him, while Trump was always trying to insinuate himself into his graces.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | January 16, 2018 5:52 PM |
People forget that Trump intended to lose. He wanted the cachet of being a former presidential candidate. He was then going to use his former candidacy to get more deals made. We heard right after the election that he wasn't sure how he was going to run things, in terms of his time and his real business interests.
No one expected him to win, even the republicans. I think some republicans like McConnell knew about the Russian plan, but weren't sure they could pull it off. It's pretty clear Pence also knew. The question for me is whether he knew before he was offered the VP spot or shortly thereafter.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | January 16, 2018 5:55 PM |
R91 TRUMP is nouveaux trash along with the rest of his family. But Murdoch is no better. We have TRUMP because of Murdoch's right-wing criminal media enterprise. That he too inherited from his father. There both going to bust Hell wide open when the time comes.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | January 16, 2018 6:01 PM |
Hand in hand with money laundering is tax evasion.
The IRS doesn't GAF how you make your $$ but, by God, you'd better pay the fucking taxes on it.
And there is no statute of limitations on fraud. So dump &co are fucked. They're just too stupid to realize it.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | January 16, 2018 6:03 PM |
I doubt Trump will do time over laundering. It is a federal offense, I think. So, of course he would be pardoned.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | January 16, 2018 6:08 PM |
R95. Wrong, it will be on state level, so no pardon
by Anonymous | reply 96 | January 16, 2018 6:11 PM |
He should throw The Mercer's under a bus. But what I think their game plan is, is to blame it all on the kushner's. This is why he said Ivanka is as "dumb as bricks" to Wolff. Trump does not care if he is impeached, he wants to stay in there to pardon his immediate family, especially Ivanka, and take down the republicans with him.
by Anonymous | reply 97 | January 16, 2018 6:14 PM |
R97: Trump DOES care if he is impeached. It will make him look like a failure. Why do you think he wants this investigation stopped so badly?!

What happened to the ankle bracelet monitors that Hillary, McCain, Huma and Chelsea were trying to cover after being secretly indicted by Mueller???
Will the "Deep State" collapse?????
Where were the smoking guns in Hillary's latest dumped emails that prove she is a baby-eater and the leader of a Satanic Cult/the Deep State??????
When will the 4,000 secret indictments of Hillary, Obama, Bill and the rest be revealed to the public?????????
What do our Deep State experts on DL have to say?
by Anonymous | reply 99 | January 16, 2018 6:20 PM |
Bannon said to wolff that Mueller is going to "roll" jared kushner, get him to turn against Trump. This is stupid. Mueller will turn over the evidence of the kusher's crimes to the New York DA. They will prosecute the kushner's, just like the Madoff's. Kushner being guilt of state crimes, is enough to get Trump impeached.

Money laundering is a federal offense.
The Money Laundering Control Act of 1986 (Public Law 99-570) is a United States Act of Congress that made money laundering a federal crime. It was passed in 1986. It consists of two sections, 18 U.S.C. § 1956 and 18 U.S.C. § 1957.

Money laundering leads to Kompromat. So basically we have a Russian compromised president sitting in the Oval office.

Because his laundering was in NY, Vegas, Florida and out of country

Remember that Nixon had already committed at least two acts that could have lead to impeachment proceedings before the third, Watergate, finally took him down. (Well,.the first thing, violating the Logan Act with North Vietnam, wasn't revealed yet, but the Pentagon Papers were well known.)
So we very well could see something similar here: collusion is verified but it's something else that takes Trump down. Obstructing Justice is always a possibility if money laundering doesn't work out.

Mueller and Company have a whole pupu platter of items to charge Trump and Company with -- take some items from Column A (Federal) and some from Column B ( State) -- plus there are a number of states Trump has done business in. Pardons don't protect you in state courts. Mueller and his very highly skilled prosecutors know this.

Bannon has absolutely ZERO to lose throwing Trump et al to the wolves at this point. Remember, he has been all but disinherited by the Mercers, his source of $$$. Even if they attempted to buy back his loyalty, as another poster noted up thread, he is for sure being monitored the Feds. Trump is screwed either way by his testimony.

He lies, he goes to jail. He cannot rely on the asshole to pardon him, so I see this bird singing. This will be fun. If he negotiates an interview, it will be the signal that Mueller is willing let him lie to hang him. He's not after him, imo, but does want Kushner and the Drumpf crime family.
by Anonymous | reply 140 | January 16, 2018 9:22 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 141 | January 16, 2018 9:25 PM |
Bannon's one and only agenda from his KKK Nazi days was to create such a chaos that Nazis can take over the US. The Mercers share that agenda. I can see Bannon to go full on in and do his part to cause such a chaos with his testimony.

by Anonymous | reply 143 | January 16, 2018 9:26 PM |
If bannon goes to jail for obstruction (not that long), he will use it as a way to recruit people to his cause. Bannon is that evil. They want Kushner. Bannon will protect Trump. Kushner's crimes are enough to get trump/pence impeached though. Lead to dem sweep.
by Anonymous | reply 144 | January 16, 2018 9:26 PM |
I still believe Bannon is ex-CIA gone crazy and rogue, his resume is too bizarre for someone born without a trust fund. As such he is probably not stupid enough to lie under oath, so if he does it's to cover for Trump. That said, he seems vindictive so I hope he has the goods on Kushner, Trump, Cambridge Analytica, Pence, and Ms. Mercer. Throwing them all under the bus will only foment the chaos he wants to monger anyway so why risk jail to cover for any of them?
by Anonymous | reply 145 | January 16, 2018 9:30 PM |
I can see Bannon doing his best to protect Trump if only to maintain the facade of "hey, I backed the right guy." But he's not going to stick his own neck out to do so, he'll sandbag Kushner and anyone else he can instead.
by Anonymous | reply 146 | January 16, 2018 10:02 PM |
He'll lie in an interview. The penalties are too great to lie to a grand jury without a reasonable expectation of a pardon. Oh to be a fly on the wall in the oval office right now!

There is no way he is clueless. He was there right in the heart of it all when the big political shit was going down. Plus he was dating Rebekah Mercer. You cant tell me that Cambridge Analytica, along with the Mercers and Kushner were in on it and Bannon was clueless. Dont buy....not in a million years. One thing I could believe is that Bannon is the aforementioned informant for Mueller. Something about him tells me that he wants chaos and upheaval and to shake things up......but not by committing treason. I think when it started to play out and he realized they were all in on it, that he turned states evidence.

No apostrophe needed when making plurals, even names.

by Anonymous | reply 158 | January 16, 2018 10:42 PM |
Please explain to me, R157, if it is ok to use 'it's' in a possessive sense? I've seen it with and without the apostrophe in that circumstance and wonder if it's an English/American difference in usage.
I would love to Kushner falling, but I doubt Bannon could throw him under the bus without also taking down the Drumpf crime family and its head.
by Anonymous | reply 159 | January 16, 2018 10:45 PM |
It's means it is. It's okay to be gay.
Its is possessive. The cat licked its paw.
Both English and American English use the same spelling for it's and its.
by Anonymous | reply 160 | January 16, 2018 10:47 PM |
R159, It is never "ok" to use an apostrophe to make it possessive. It's always means it is.
The possessive of it is its - always. Whether UK or US.
People misspell them both but that doesn't make it "ok."
by Anonymous | reply 161 | January 16, 2018 10:49 PM |

All along, it has been strongly speculated that there has been a high level informant in the Trump administration; someone ranked above the "P" guy that got drunk and blabbed to the Australians.
I can think of six possibilities, but three have left the WH, two awhile ago. If that person is still there, I expect the individual is wired.
by Anonymous | reply 166 | January 16, 2018 11:28 PM |
I think at this point Trump only talks to people when they are completely naked in order to make sure they are not wired. And probably asks constantly if they are undercover spies (because he saw in some TV show that undercover cops have to reveal they are undercover cops when they are asked, so it's surely the same with spies).

If true, r168, that person would be turning in tapes (if applicable) and sharing messages, but through a highly disguised process; every precaution to hide identity. I don't think he really thought all this through when he blabbed to Woff, but I think now he will listen to his attorney. I agree with the poster above who thinks he's ex-CIA. Let me preface this with "some people are saying" or in this case "describing" Bannon as the major channel of the Wolff book, and as such, distanced himself from the Russian connection at the outset, supposedly already aware of how dangerous it could be.
He will sing, say he knew what was going on, but wasn't personally involved. Was it 60Minutes where he described Trump as a stepping stone? (I paraphrase)
And when he spills all, he will hope to be the next kingmaker, if not the king himself. He still has that vision and will right up to the grand jury. He will proclaim himself to be an American with no Russian ties.

by Anonymous | reply 186 | January 17, 2018 2:56 AM |
R155, Bannon cannot simply refuse to testify in front of the grand jury; he has to have a valid legal reason for doing so. He can “take the Fifth” if he has grounds for believing that his testimony could implicate him in the commission of a crime. If he does that, and Mueller believes that his testimony is vital, Mueller can grant him immunity from prosecution. Then Bannon would be compelled to testify.
by Anonymous | reply 187 | January 17, 2018 3:10 AM |
All this just prolongs the investigation. If you did nothing and want it all over, you would cooperate with Mueller, the special prosecutor. Trump is just pissing them off more. Why would anyone want to piss off the special prosecutor and the FBI? The Trumps are DIRTY and GUILTY.

It will be interesting to see what Bannon does.
IMO he is a really dangerous ideologue -- a Nazi or, as he once implied, a Bolshevik -- with a destructive agenda. BUT I don't see him, as a rabid ideologue, being at all accepting of what he surely considers treason (and stupidity). So I actually don't believe he had anything to do with the Russians or with large-scale money laundering. Therefore, he has no authentic reason to "Take the Fifth", because he's unlikely to be implicated in that.
So whether and to what extent he testifies will be a window into how badly he wants to protect Trump.

He fancies himself to be an 'anarchist' and 'revolutionary' who will bring down the capitalist establishment that he regards as corrupt and as having abandoned the white working class. He is religious, and believes capitalism is a potential force for good but only if tempered by Judeo-Christian principles. He is definitely racist and highly sentimental about the white poor. He is not dangerous at all, because he is unashamedly intellectual and intellectuals play very badly with the anti-intellectual American public.
Bannon Agrees to Cooperate With Mueller Inquiry
Stephen K. Bannon, President Trump’s former chief strategist, [bold]will be interviewed by investigators working for the special counsel in the Russia investigation instead of testifying before a grand jury, according to a person familiar with the matter, a sign that Mr. Bannon is cooperating with the inquiry.[/bold]
[bold]The special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, had subpoenaed Mr. Bannon to appear before a grand jury this week. But Mr. Bannon has agreed to cooperate with Mr. Mueller’s investigation and will be interviewed in the less formal setting of the special counsel’s offices in downtown Washington.[/bold]
It was not clear why Mr. Mueller subpoenaed Mr. Bannon and did not first ask him to sit for an interview, as Mr. Mueller had done with more than a dozen current and former White House officials who were questioned in recent months. Mr. Mueller could still call Mr. Bannon to appear before a grand jury after he meets with investigators.
Legal experts have said the subpoena could be a sign that the investigation was accelerating while others said it may have simply been a negotiating tactic to force Mr. Bannon to quickly agree to be interviewed.
The subpoena was served after Mr. Bannon was quoted in the new book “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House” criticizing the president’s son Donald Trump Jr. and predicting that Mr. Mueller’s investigation will ultimately center on money laundering.
Mr. Bannon is still under subpoena from the House Intelligence Committee, which took the unusual step of subpoenaing him as he was being interviewed by its members on Tuesday. He had refused to answer several questions about Mr. Trump, saying the White House had told him to assert executive privilege.
8 COMMENTS Committee members of both parties were angered by Mr. Bannon’s lack of cooperation during his 10 hours of testimony, and Democrats said that the White House had used executive privilege as a “gag order” to stop Mr. Bannon from talking about the president. The lawmakers would like Mr. Bannon to return to Capitol Hill on Thursday to respond to the questions he refused to answer.
CNN first reported on Wednesday that Mr. Mueller would forgo Mr. Bannon’s grand jury appearance.
Also on Wednesday, a status hearing for George Papadopoulos, a former Trump campaign adviser who has pleaded guilty to lying to the F.B.I., was postponed for up to 90 days. Mr. Papadopoulos is cooperating with Mr. Mueller’s inquiry while awaiting sentencing."
The president relied on a key legal advisor, but his advice could have a downside
[bold]Donald Trump personally made the decision to curtail the testimony of former chief White House political strategist Steve Bannon before the House Intelligence Committee, according to two people with firsthand knowledge of the matter.[bold]
Trump acted to limit Bannon’s testimony based on legal advice provided by Uttam Dhillon, a deputy White House counsel, who concluded that the administration might have legitimate executive privilege claims to restrict testimony by Bannon and other current and former aides to the president, according to these same sources.
But Dhillon has also concluded that Bannon and other current and former Trump administration officials do not have legitimate claims to executive privilege when it comes to providing information or testimony to special counsel Robert Mueller, according to the sources. Mueller is investigating whether anyone associated with Trump colluded with Russia to interfere in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

Bannon is an ideologue. He may very well lie, lie, lie and if there are no tapes, who is to disprove his lies? He may hate Kushner, but the real reason for his hatred is that he sees Kushner as a democrat. Democrats see Kushner as an opportunistic weasel, but Bannon still thinks Kushner is a democrat. If someone identified as a democrat 20 years ago for 15 minutes, Bannon would still consider him a democrat. That's how rabidly Bannon hates democrats.
I foresee Bannnon doing his best to protect Trump so that the far right agendas will continue to be pushed through the houses of congress and the SCOTUS.

he’s not scary when you really size him up. He’s the loser from your political science class that took it all so seriously. Now he’s grown up.
And the people who gave him money aren’t so much scary as they are suckers. The political donation circuit is full of grifters. The donors never learn.

R226 nailed Bannon. He’s a fucking BLOWHARD. I’m not saying he’s a wimp either, he is “smart” and tough. But he just looooooovvveeeesss to argue to the point that he can’t maintain reason. He *thinks* he’s fighting the good fight, he thinks he’s protecting his people. He thinks he’s much smarter than everyone else simply because he’s read so much history. It will be interesting to see what moves he makes over the next few weeks without Breitbart or the Mercer’s. Wish someone would post a link about him dating Rebekah, how horrific imaging those two fucking.
