Ramen is the new hot thing

Did you ever think all those nights making ramen in your dorm room would turn to this?

by Anonymousreply 18January 19, 2018 2:53 AM

Not at all.

I try to avoid it, but it's handy to have in the pantry for when you're in a huge rush. Just don't use all (or any of the seasoning packet), so you don't overdose on salt. If you skip that little seasoning packet, you can add your own seasonings (some soy sauce, sesame oil, hot sauce, etc) and control how much salt you're getting.

The "new thing" ramen is the same as instant ramen.

Instant ramen bears the same relationship to real ramen that canned tuna has to tuna shashimi.

ah um

Pork bone ramen isn't the same thing as a dollar store packett.

I have an incredibly easy homemade ramen recipe. With chicken broth and shitake mushrooms.

The only hard part is finding those damn uncooked ramen noodles.

I was in Vegas a couple of years ago and in the Monte Carlo there was a restaurant that had ramen. It was a huge pot of flavorful soup with bits of pork and mushrooms and other yummy stuff.

I never cooked in my dorm room. Coffee tea and hot cocoa was the tasteful limit.

I buy the noodle packets and throw away the flavor pouch and use Maesri curry paste in stir fry when I don't want to eat it with rice.

I love Ramen. And it's been the hot new thing for the past three years, but good for you for catching up, OP.

3 years? I remember going to a ramen place in 2008 in nyc. I don’t think it was new then.

by Anonymousreply 16January 18, 2018 3:51 AM

I like putting raisins in my ramen.

by Anonymousreply 17January 18, 2018 2:51 PM

OP said "hot things" r16. There are were many ramen places in LA for decades. They were not considered "hot" or "trend." 2013/2014 ramen hit its peak at least in my area of Los Angeles.
