Who Are Some Famous Rock Musicians That Are Real Jerks? Any Good Stories?

I have heard Sting is very pompous and full of himself.

by Anonymousreply 60212/05/2017

A drummer friend of mine told me B.J. Thomas was a real asshole to him.

by Anonymousreply 111/26/2017

Chrissie Hyde is a cunt, but I admire her efforts on behalf of animals.

by Anonymousreply 211/26/2017

Diana Krall is a bitch. She refused to allow the station that simulcasts all the performances of the Monterey Jazz Festival to do the same for hers and she was not nice about it.

by Anonymousreply 311/26/2017

Lou Reed was probably the rudest man I ever met. This was maybe 30 years ago when I worked in a bar in the village. I was a twinky grad student and reached my limit with that asshole. I ignored him for maybe 15 minutes and told him “Grandpa, go somewhere else. You’re a dick.”

Jaco Pastorius was also an ass, but he seemed bipolar.

by Anonymousreply 411/26/2017

R4, you're awesome. I'm so glad you said that to Lou Reed, one of the most notorious assholes to have ever walked the earth. He was just a rude, pompous, insufferable piece of shit, and always has been. I have two friends who were very prominent during the NYC / Bowery / CBCG punk scene in the mid-70s, and Lou Reed was so goddamn awful back then, they still don't really have words to describe his personality.

by Anonymousreply 511/26/2017

How about doucheariffic?

by Anonymousreply 611/26/2017

Celine Dion is a raging COKE WHORE!!!!

by Anonymousreply 711/26/2017

Van Morrison. Drunken asshole. Douchebag when sober.

by Anonymousreply 811/26/2017

Yeah Lou Reed owns this thread. No question.

by Anonymousreply 911/26/2017

Mike Love doesn't even know the meaning of the word.

by Anonymousreply 1011/26/2017

Ushers at Neil Diamond shows are forbidden from facing the stage as “he doesn’t perform for anyone for free.” They have to have backs to the stage the entire time.

by Anonymousreply 1111/26/2017

I was managing a record store that hosted a Barry Manilow in-store appearance in the late 80's. His list of demands was insane - room temp water, cold water, various trays of food, dry towels, warm damp towels etc. All he used were the towels (to wipe his hands between shakes) and a bottle of room temp Perrier. I got to feed over $300 in food and drink to my staff after the event (remember this was the late 80's). Turnout was depressed by a pretty significant snow storm so Barry decided to leave early - despite the fact we had made him aware there was "Fanilow" on route from the airport, which was less than 15 minutes from the store, who had flown into the US from Tokyo specifically to attend the event and meet her idol and was delayed by the weather. From the minute he walked in the door he was rude, surly and a complete asshole about the turnout. Frankly, considering we got about a foot of wet sloppy snow that day, I though the turnout of a few dozen was pretty good - and he was already pretty much a has-been by that point.

by Anonymousreply 1211/26/2017

You deserve a break today, R12.

by Anonymousreply 1311/26/2017

I read Sammy Hagar's memoir. He came off sounding like a pompous, narcissistic prick. Hated (actually jealous) of Van Halen's first lead singer, David Lee Roth, and kept on saying that he was gay in a demeaning manner. He outed him in a very nasty way. He also said hateful things about Eddie Van Halen despite the fact that the man had cancer. In fact he didn't seem to like much of anyone that he worked with. An uncouth, ignorant man who I wouldn't turn my back on. His book left me with an awful feeling about him. Very mean-spirited at times.

by Anonymousreply 1411/26/2017

There were plenty of moments in my music retailing career to compensate R13. Pizza and an acoustic set with a completely charming up and comer named Melissa Etheridge ( I ate Dominos while listening to Come to My Window live before it was released); Lunch with En Vogue promoting their second album; shooting the shit with Donny Osmond at a promo event at Paisley Park; meeting& frequently dining with opera stars I had idolized for years; watching Spinal Tap perform live at an 8AM private show in their PJ's. Barry was one of my few truly awful experiences - only surpassed by her Royal Cunty-ness Cathy Lee Gifford.

by Anonymousreply 1511/26/2017

Jon Bon Jovi. Diva and borderline racist.

by Anonymousreply 1611/26/2017

[quote]He also said hateful things about Eddie Van Halen despite the fact that the man had cancer.

Ouch. Even Valerie Bertinelli didn't hold a grudge over their divorce.

by Anonymousreply 1711/26/2017

Madonna is notorious for being rude to people. I read a story in a magazine a number of years ago about a well known male Country singer (I've forgotten his name) who just happened to be on the same plane as Madge. He stated that she was frowning, unfriendly, and looked to be in a terrible mood. He stated that after awhile an airline stewardess came up to him, said that Madonna liked his boots and wanted to know where he got them. He said that if Madonna really wanted to know she could get up and damn well ask him herself.

by Anonymousreply 1811/26/2017

Wait, David Lee Roth is gay? How'd I miss that?

by Anonymousreply 1911/26/2017

Agree with OP, Sting is an arrogant cunt who doesn’t even realise he’s a has been.

by Anonymousreply 2011/26/2017

[quote] Wait, David Lee Roth is gay? How'd I miss that?

Does that make me gay if I dance around to his music in nothing but a light blue bath towel?

by Anonymousreply 2111/26/2017

[R15] did you work at Cheapo in MN?

by Anonymousreply 2211/26/2017

Re Barry Manilow's requests. I worked on a music festival for a few years, and some of the demands were absolutely insane. Donna Summer, for instance, had a list of ridiculous requests, which we adhered to, because hers was a benefit concert, and she was charging much less than her then going rate. I was backstage with her, and I don't know it came up, but she, herself, didn't make any of those demands, and didn't even know they were asked for on her behalf. Her overzealous road manager made the list. It could be the same with Manilow, and any other group who asks for absurd shit.

by Anonymousreply 2311/26/2017

Sometimes the absurd riders are there to make sure the venue is paying attention. If there aren’t exactly 17 red Skittles then they didn’t read the requirements.

by Anonymousreply 2411/26/2017

Ok R24 that makes a little bit more sense but the rider business is probably abused.

by Anonymousreply 2511/26/2017

I feel like the “oh, I didn’t know” and “it was just to make sure they pay attention” is what celebrities trot out whenever they get called on their ridiculous bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 2611/26/2017

Patti Smith was a foul, starfucking diva in her day. When she made it big (and to this day, nobody I know is quite sure how she managed to wrangle an excellent backing band who played along with her "poetry," or how they fashioned whole songs together since she was never a musician or vocalist) she had a dreadful attitude. I can't remember which venue it was, but she was backstage and Debbie Harry found her way in there, among all the guys--this was before Blondie became massive--and Patti, who was subservient to men and jealous / resentful of any other woman, especially those she considered rivals, yelled, "Get that CUNT out of here!"

by Anonymousreply 2711/26/2017

Some of you are really stretching the definition of rock musician.

by Anonymousreply 2811/26/2017

I heard Sting is a complete jerk. An older guy I know who sold guitars in the 70's and 80's who would bring in his merchandise backstage for the rocks stars to look at and possibly buy. He met a countless number of big name musicians. He knew he was dealing with some big ego types, many he met were generally friendly and gracious and some were not and he was cool with this. Out of all of them, he said Sting was the worst of the worst. He said he was allowed back stage and into his dressing room. Sting was getting a massage and looked up and said "Just leave the stuff (bass guitars he brought to show him) in the corner and get out. I will check them out later and we'll get back to you." . He said Sting looked at him like he was the scum of the earth when he looked up from his massage. I don't think he was exaggerating. Yeah, from what he described, Sting sounds like a certified jerk. My theory is, Sting was just about to get a happy ending right before my friend walked in. The male masseuse was some dark skinned guy, and my friend said he was very handsome. Maybe he was turning Sting out. Or vice versa.

by Anonymousreply 2911/26/2017

Celine Dion. A friend of a friend was a producer at the most recent Billboard Awards where Celine sang the Titanic theme. Apparently, that morning, during rehearsals, the auditorium was freezing and a number of celebs were throwing fits about it except for Celine, who threw on a very heavy winter jacket and sang the song, perfectly. He said she was the consumate professional while many people of lesser talent were assholes.

by Anonymousreply 3011/26/2017

A relative of mine worked at Central Park Summerstage for many years and the only person I ever heard him complain about was Elvis Costello. He said he was a miserable asshole who yelled at everyone.

by Anonymousreply 3111/26/2017

I've worked in music for 22 years. Major labels, indie labels, management companies.

Mike Love - complete asshole. Caught him talking shit about Brian Wilson out in the open in a green room. Such audacity. Robert Plant - Snubbed every person who came up to him at a Grammy event. Miley Cyrus - Not a lot of people know she decided that she was done with Hannah Montana halfway through the last season. Then she refused to sing anymore songs from the show. 8 songs were cut, 4 episodes had to be rewritten, 12 songwriters, 2 publishers, 5 managers all lost out on revenue from the songs that were supposed to be cut. Fuck that cunt.

by Anonymousreply 3211/26/2017

Another vote for Robert Plant. I waited tables in Nashville a few years ago, when he was living here. He could not have been a bigger asshole. He got the manager fired because the waiters weren't making enough of a fuss about him, and we treated him like we treat everyone. He was pissed that he didn't get special "we are in the presence of greatness" treatment. He also was cheap as fuck, and complained that we charged him for additional sides. He used to come in regularly, and he was a total ass.

by Anonymousreply 3311/27/2017

r14 no, Hagar is right on this one. Although he also could be an asshole, he's correct. Eddie is a notorious prick. Valerie wasn't too thrilled about him in her book, but she allegedly held back because of the family. This is Hagar from a few years ago, on the book tour describing how EVH treats people, including everyone around him.

BTW, Hagar's also right about his status-he was an established rock singer, although he can sound arrogant if you didn't know his pre Van Halen history.

by Anonymousreply 3411/27/2017

[quote]Mike Love - complete asshole. Caught him talking shit about Brian Wilson

Isn't that what he does for a living?

by Anonymousreply 3511/27/2017

r4: How did Reed respond?

by Anonymousreply 3611/27/2017

I've heard the exact opposite about Lou Reed. First or second hand, he was more than gracious about signing an autograph.

by Anonymousreply 3711/27/2017

Belinda Carlisle was a complete bitch once when I saw her in Philly a few years ago. My cousin worked sound, so I got to go in for soundcheck, and she was so fucking rude to the workers. "Is this your first fucking night?" and "Can you get someone here who's not an idiot?" and the funniest - since supposedly in her autobiography she talked about "coming clean" was then screaming about how her wine wasn't chilled.

Best part was, as she was coming on stage, someone screamed "marry me" and she "get a life" and then proceeded to painfully sing her stuff. I stayed anyway, since I do like a bunch of her songs, but she was so nasty!

by Anonymousreply 3811/27/2017

r37 Lou Reed is a fucking piece of garbage who used his money and status to get an organ he didn't deserve due to his own lifestyle choices that finally caught up to him. Not only that, he should never have been given a liver because he was nowhere near stable and sober enough to handle it. Of course, he went back to using, and it killed him.

He's a complete no talent cunt who took advantage of being at the right place at the right time (much like Patti Smith), and rode it for the rest of his miserable life. Oh, and he was another asshole who was gay when it served his career, but then crawled into hetero life when he was done using us to be trendy, like the other 70s poseur extraordinaire David Bowie.

by Anonymousreply 3911/27/2017

I’m enjoying the Patti Smith comments. She’s had a couple of good songs, but mostly I find her painfully overrated and pretentious. I always liked that Crass lyric about her—“you write with your hand, but it’s Rimbaud’s arm.”

by Anonymousreply 4011/27/2017

Al Jarreau -

He and Bobby McFarrin had visited our studios together. Instead of Al's talking/answering questions, interacting with people, he chose to 'talk' through Bobby.

We were trying to figure out if Al believed Bobby's singing voice to be less important/inferior to his own by assigning Bobby as his spokesperson for the day.

What an arrogant ass -

by Anonymousreply 4111/27/2017

I have encountered few musicians or rock musicians, but have seen Patti Smith in action, a total cunt.

She was a guest at a fancy Park Ave dinner party. Her attitude and personality were grim and rude when addressed, of course! Most people ESPECIALLY Jewish matrons do NOT allow smoking in their homes! It just isn't done these days, especially in a fussy bespoke co-op with millions of dollars of art on the walls. Patti lit a cigarette and used a fancy painted drink coaster as an ash tray! I thought the hostess was going to die on the spot. Of course when she asked at me to get an ash tray, she realized she didn't OWN an ashtray! What a gross pig Smith is! Oh, and she wore tattered jeans and a peasant blouse, she was dressed for a casual lesbian poetry reading!

Cindy Lauper is really whiney and difficult. She HATES cigarette smoke and acts like she's "allergic" and suffering anaphylaxis if there's one part per trillion in her rarified air, and has to berate everyone (the people who aren't even smoking) for her discomfort. Oh, shut UP, BITCH!

Bonnie Raitt is a living doll! What a sweet lady!

by Anonymousreply 4211/27/2017

Loving these stories!

by Anonymousreply 4311/27/2017

Art Garfunkel verbally abused his live-in girlfriend Laurie Bird into committing suicide.

by Anonymousreply 4411/27/2017

Victim on the right

by Anonymousreply 4511/27/2017

Both Sting and Lou Reed sound like pieces of shit.

Love the Celine story. I was expecting to hear she was a bitch, but once again, another nice story about her. I've never heard a bad story about Celine.

by Anonymousreply 4611/27/2017

Is it art garfunkel that was Lou pearlman’s cousin?

by Anonymousreply 4711/27/2017

Seriously?! Forty-seven posts, and not a single word about ME???

by Anonymousreply 4811/27/2017

I still adore him but nearly everyone says Lou Reed was an asshole. Thankfully I never met him.

by Anonymousreply 4911/27/2017

Correct r47

by Anonymousreply 5011/27/2017

Rod Stewart was a complete gentleman when I met him 14 years ago

by Anonymousreply 5111/27/2017

After performing at a local college, Bobby McFarrin smoked pot with some of my (at the time) high school / college friends. We were all music students and the ones who hung out with him said he was super nice and funny.

Years ago I played in an ensemble that accompanied Anne Murray during a performance she gave in my hometown. She was amazing as both a performer and human being. Although I was but a lowly high school student she took several pictures with me while laughing and chatting about her tour. She couldn't have been nicer or more down-to-earth.

I've heard that Alice Cooper is a genuinely nice guy.

by Anonymousreply 5211/27/2017

Bono. He visited a non profit I worked at over 10 years ago. We were given 'riders' that we were ok to be photographed with him but we could not approach him, speak to him, look at him, make him aware we were in the same room. Once the pics stopped he was outta there. He was only in our building for ten minutes and only our Executive Director (an attractive woman) got to speak to him. Afterward she told us he kept moving his hand down her backside during the photo op.

by Anonymousreply 5311/27/2017

That corny has-been Rex Manning was a royal asshole during his in-store back when I worked at Empire Records.

by Anonymousreply 5411/27/2017

Keep posting! Loving the stories.

by Anonymousreply 5511/28/2017

I’m in the biz and met them all. The worst: David Gilmour and Pat Benatar. The best: Rod Stewart and Roger Daltrey.

Back in the late 80’s, Sting was arrogant and self important. He’s mellowed.

by Anonymousreply 5611/28/2017

You can also ad Graham Nash to the list of assholes.

by Anonymousreply 5711/28/2017

Would you then concur with R31, R56?

by Anonymousreply 5811/28/2017

Lou Reed owns this thread.

I still don't understand the Lou Reed/Laurie Anderson matching.

by Anonymousreply 5911/28/2017

Only know one track by Laurie Anderson, really enjoyed it. I think it was called X or something like that.

by Anonymousreply 6011/28/2017

Lou Reed was mentally ill and some think that's why he would sometimes lash out the way he did.

by Anonymousreply 6111/28/2017

"Let X = X"

by Anonymousreply 6211/28/2017

Cindy Wilson of the B-52's. Went to a meet and greet and she refused to come out with the band. Keith and Kate were great and funny. Fred was a dud. They were the headliners, over The Pretenders which I did not understand at all.

by Anonymousreply 6311/28/2017

That's the one, R62. Very cool track. Closing soundtrack to this Swedish film from 2013 by Anna Odell.

by Anonymousreply 6411/28/2017

Michael Stipe actually mumbles — consumed with appearing like The Mysterious Rock God... evironmental-political diva

by Anonymousreply 6511/28/2017

[quote]I've heard the exact opposite about Lou Reed.

You’re literally the only person on the planet who doesn’t think he was an asshole.

He seemed to mete out the most abuse to people who had to deal with him for their work, like journalists and wait staff. The sign of absolute trash.

by Anonymousreply 6611/28/2017

R66 Yes

by Anonymousreply 6711/28/2017

Lou Reed was so overrated...

But she never lost her head

Even when she was giving head

To use the same word twice, once at the end of each, sweetie

by Anonymousreply 6811/28/2017

Always thought it was a joke

by Anonymousreply 6911/28/2017

Impressions from hanging with a buddy in the Seattle music scene: Nick Cave, self-important prick. Was unnecessarily rude and condescending to a kid from a local radio station who was interviewing him and obviously idolized him. Asshole.

Chris Walla (Death Cab for Cutie), very nice and unassuming. I didn't know who he was, and thought he was a college student. No posse, no "do you know who I AM?"

Exene Cervenka: twat. Bitchy, no eye contact with the little people. Her ex husband John Doe and sometime bandmate Dave Alvin, just a couple of good old boys. Laid back, no attitude.

Lady Sovereign (Brit rapper): a real sweetheart. She should have been as big as Adele but never got her big breakthrough. She was like some bright, sassy working class girl you'd meet in a pub in one of the outer London boroughs.

Courtney Love: drug addled mess. Not a surprise, but still a shame.

Elliot Smith: talked do quietly you could barely hear him. Very odd guy.

George Strait: the nice guy act is an act. Total diva, very full of himself, rude to the theater staff and crew.

by Anonymousreply 7011/28/2017

I’m happy to hear that my longtime imaginary boyfriend John Doe is a nice guy. Thanks, R70!

by Anonymousreply 7111/28/2017

Gene Simmons.

by Anonymousreply 7211/28/2017

A relative worked as sound engineer at an outdoor arena in IL, worked with a lot of celebs and he said by far the three worst were Neil Diamond, Diana Ross and Barry Manilow

I've heard stories about John Lennon being a total asshole

by Anonymousreply 7311/28/2017

Yoko was the real asshole, R73

by Anonymousreply 7411/28/2017

R54 what’s with today, today?

by Anonymousreply 7511/28/2017

I’ve had a major straight-crush on Stewart Copeland forever so I believe what he’s been saying about Gordon for all these years. Can’t deny Sting has a cool vibe & unique lyricism, but yeah, he’s a dick.

On the flipside, my grandparents used to live in the same village as Marc Bolan and said he was so nice (but kind of a shy, eccentric recluse). This was when he was retired from the limelight just before he died.

by Anonymousreply 7611/28/2017

Read the article below about Axl Rose and you will be convinced he owns this thread a thousand times over. I have to warn you, the insanity becomes exhausting after while (and this is just after the first few paragraphs).

by Anonymousreply 7711/28/2017

Axl ain’t shit but you know, every single member of Guns N’ Roses turned out monstrous tools.

by Anonymousreply 7811/28/2017

[quote] I have heard Sting is very pompous and full of himself

Nope. A former neighbor worked for Sting and Trudie for years in NY. He's a regular person like everyone else. BUT .......he is also extremely generous. Any tragedy -- A hurricane, tsunami, famine -- Sting donates money anonymously. Lots of money. One of her jobs was to write those checks and make sure they got to the right person.

by Anonymousreply 7911/28/2017

I was backstage at a Celine Dion concert in Boston years ago and I walk in on Celine on the toilet and she yells at me “ get the fuck out of here! I’m taking La Shit” she actually said La Shit. Otherwise she was nice. Stinky dump though. Hard to believe from such a small framed woman.

by Anonymousreply 8011/28/2017

Okay, I usually don't "try" to meet anyone famous. They're just people, too. But, after reading R70, I'll add a bit. I've met:

Exene Cervenka: Snotty, stand-offish. Kinda mean.

Siouxsie (without the Banshees): Cold, couldn't be bothered. And I was only being polite, having met her in a by-the-way fashion.

Jeff Beck: Nice enough though distracted.

Albert King: A real gentleman.

Ritchie Blackmore: Unsettling. Arrogant. I believe the gossip now.

Frank Zappa: Seemed like a really good guy. Intelligent and patient.

There are more, but I can't think of them right now. On one hand, I can really understand how uncomfortable it is to have fans coming up to you, but it's better to actually have fans.

by Anonymousreply 8111/28/2017

R75 , I don’t know, but we mustn’t dwell. Not on Rex Manning Day!

by Anonymousreply 8211/28/2017

And then Celine said, “Maïs? When did I eat maïs?”

by Anonymousreply 8311/28/2017

Props to LADY SOVEREIGN, R70. Great sense of humor, nice, approachable.

by Anonymousreply 8411/28/2017

[quote]Ritchie Blackmore: Unsettling. Arrogant. I believe the gossip now.

What gossip? Do tell.

by Anonymousreply 8511/28/2017

John Lennon was one of the biggest assholes around.

And he'd be the first one to tell you that.

by Anonymousreply 8611/28/2017

True. At least he never slept with a former bandmate's wife.

George Harrison had a sexual and emotional affair with Ringo Starr's wife, Maureen in the mid 70s. In front of his wife, Pattie, Ringo, and Maureen he confessed to Ringo that he was in love with his wife. Ringo took it rather while and simply replied, "At least it's someone I know."

What happened after that is a mystery. Maureen denied they were ever involved. This is based on an account that was retold in Pattie Boyd's book, 'Wonderful Tonight'. Her account of the affair is backed up in another book by Chris O'Dell, who George Harrison tried to bed, but she turned him down because she didn't want to ruin the friendship she developed with Pattie.

However, she did end up sleeping with Ringo. O'Dell stated that George told her in no uncertain terms that he was, " love with, Maureen." Her reaction was to laugh him off until she realized he was serious.

I can't remember who said this, maybe it was one of the Beatles, perhaps John himself. It goes something like make it as big as the Beatles you had to be a bastard, and the Beatles were the biggest bastards around. Out of the four of them, Lennon was the worst by all accounts. The rest weren't angels either though.

by Anonymousreply 8711/28/2017

Interesting perspective, R87.

by Anonymousreply 8811/28/2017

[quote] What happened after that is a mystery.

No, it's not. Ringo divorced Maureen, but stayed friends with George. Pattie Boyd still slags off Maureen, even though Maureen is long dead. And, of course, Pattie stayed with adulterer George......until Pattie decided on a little adultery for herself.

Maureen was banished from the Beatles "family," which devastated her. Eventually she married the guy who owned the Hard Rock Cafe. She had leukemia & her son Zak gave her bone marrow, but she died shortly after the operation. Very sad.

by Anonymousreply 8911/28/2017

The mystery I'm referring to is what happened directly after George confessed that he was in love with Maureen. Pattie never followed up with anyone else's reaction to the news except for Ringo's. The book was poorly written which is unfortunate because if Pattie had a better ghost writer the book could've been leaps and bounds better than the final product.

Interesting tidbit. The two banished Beatle wives, Maureen and Cynthia Lennon were together when they found out John was murdered in New York.

by Anonymousreply 9011/28/2017

Ringo was at Maureen's bedside when she died.

by Anonymousreply 9111/28/2017

I saw Pattie in an interview that took place in the last few years and she's still talking about how her best friend betrayed her by having an affair with Pattie's husband. George got off Scot free.

An interviewer asked Pattie about George's many, many, many infidelities. You must have been aware of them, the interviewer said. Did you just expect him to be unfaithful?

And she said yes. The Beatles were the most famous men in the world. Women were going to throw themselves at them, so of course George would have affairs. George's second wife said the exact same thing. He was a very famous man; it was to be expected.

I guess being married to a very rich, very famous man made up for his being unfaithful. You didn't get to go to the best clubs & restaurants, use private jets, vacation whenever you felt like it, and you didn't get treated like a VIP if you left your world famous husband.

by Anonymousreply 9211/28/2017

R42, years ago, friends, relatives, and I went to a taping of a "live" music show. It could've been Divas Live or one of those other VH1 programs. Cyndi Lauper was one of the performers, and while the other musical guests before her sang a song or two and moved on, Miss Lauper stopped and started her set half a dozen times until she and her band got it right. She was whiney and demanding, berating the band, the sound guys, etc. The other acts were fun and spontaneous, but she killed the mood by being a perfectionist diva. Love her, but I thought she behaved like a jerk for holding us hostage and boring us with what should've been done during sound check.

by Anonymousreply 9311/28/2017

R19 that news has been around for quite some time,Missy.

by Anonymousreply 9411/28/2017

R89 You mean with Clapton? If you do then you would be wrong then. Her thing with EC had George's full blessing. He was done with Patti at that point.

by Anonymousreply 9511/28/2017

R85, it's pretty obvious from interviews that Blackmore is full of himself. In person, he exudes negativity. The gossip is that he's heavily into black magic and known to throw a curse or two. It's his thing, or so they say. At any rate, he's apparently not easy to get along with. I definitely got that vibe. Chilling.

And that's as far as I go with that.

by Anonymousreply 9611/28/2017

I love all the stories about Lou Reed and Patti Smith, two overrated, untalented creeps. I particularly can’t stand that vile hag Smith.

by Anonymousreply 9711/28/2017

Anyone have the misfortune to come across Elton during his cocaine years?

by Anonymousreply 9811/28/2017

Another interesting thing about Clapton, Harrison, and Boyd that involves Boyd's younger sister. At one point, George wanted to 'swap partners' for a bit and bed Pattie's younger sister, who Clapton was dating at the time. It didn't end up happening though. I can't remember why.

Some of you people need to do more than just name drop.

R56, tell us a David Gilmour story.

by Anonymousreply 10011/28/2017

I was wondering when/if someone would mention Joni Mitchell, and, alas, someone has. I don't know if she can be considered a jerk; rather she is just opinionated and strong willed. I'm not sure that is the same thing. I had read a bunch of interviews with her, and she comes off very negative and mean, but, then I saw an interview -- vs just reading the transcript of one -- and much of what would sound negative in print was actually said in such a way to be humorous. I also read in the "Disaster Artist" that she invited a store clerk who had just sold her a sweater out to dinner, despite him not knowing who she was. she a jerk? or just someone who has no problems speaking her mind? I prefer to think the latter, because I think she's tremendous.

by Anonymousreply 10111/28/2017

Sadly, I don't think Joni will be with us much longer. She was photographed at that recent Clive Davis shindig, and looked very unwell.

by Anonymousreply 10211/28/2017

Eat dog shit, r102!

by Anonymousreply 10311/28/2017

What about John Mayer? Any recent gossip?

by Anonymousreply 10411/28/2017

contd... he's hot and talented

by Anonymousreply 10511/28/2017

[quote]Read the article below about Axl Rose and you will be convinced he owns this thread a thousand times over.

A guy claiming to have been his lover wrote a few posts about Axl here a few years ago. If I remember correctly at least with him Axl seemed fairly normal.

by Anonymousreply 10611/28/2017

I’ve heard lots of stories about Patti being a cunt (several stories from a friend in the music biz) but I met her on the subway one day and she was very sweet and talkative with me.

by Anonymousreply 10711/28/2017

Heard some good stuff from a publicist recently. Prince was near-autistic and just insanely talented; could pick up an instrument he'd never touched or heard before and play it, immediately. He was a terrible judge of people, and surrounded himself with manipulative idiots. David Bowie was smart, kind, and actually cool as hell without being pretentious. Just a truly lovely guy. And Sting? An arrogant prat who --along with his wife--is ashamed of their autistic child. Also, he does a lot of good for the rainforest, which is admirable, but undoes it by having such a large staff he flies EVERWHERE on any whim. Publicist said that Sting's staff is something like 30 people, all of whom dislike Sting and loathe his wife. By comparison, Mick Jagger has a staff of 4.

Surprised to read above about Sting's generosity--however, my source is a real insider so I don't know what to think.

by Anonymousreply 10811/28/2017

R12, to clarify - the lady who flew from Tokyo to meet Barry Manilow didn't get to meet him? He left knowing she was on the way there?

by Anonymousreply 10911/28/2017

My friend did the hair for the B-52s before a concert in San Diego. He said Cindy was casual, ambivalent, slighly drunk and easy to deal with. Kate, on the other hand, was a queen bee and very demanding. She kept telling him not to look at her. Finally out of exasperation he blurt out, "How can I do your hair without looking at you?!" Then she shut up.

by Anonymousreply 11011/28/2017

Elton John. A magazine did an interview with a young man (Rent Boy) who had been with him quite a bit and he said that Elton John has only slept with 2 women ever in his life - a female gypsy and Shirley McLaine. The marriage to his wife was only a sham (which we all kind of knew).

by Anonymousreply 11111/28/2017

I was in love with sting

by Anonymousreply 11311/28/2017

by Anonymousreply 11411/28/2017

What about Elton and David Furnish. I've heard they mostly lead separate lives now, and are more like close friends rather than still being in physical realationship. Elton was also supposed to be into black hustlers, who he saw when he was at his house near Atlanta.

by Anonymousreply 11511/28/2017

Elton is in his 70s now, most men that age are no longer intimate with their significant others.

by Anonymousreply 11611/28/2017

Morrissy is a cunt. miserable cunt.

by Anonymousreply 11711/28/2017

^ Of course he is, r117.

That is his charm.

Laid out a fortune for "VIP" ticket and backstage meet and greet with Lil' Peep. He said "Hey Daddy sorry but even with the limo tinks, you ain't riding this dick - don't need no rims and only bitches get on it and your lean is shit."

Well, I hadn't paid to be insulted!!!!

by Anonymousreply 11911/28/2017

R119, what does that even mean??

by Anonymousreply 12011/28/2017

R81 IMO Exene ruined every single X song with that horrible goat yodel.

I met Siouxsie twice. She even came back to meet us a second night. She was absolutely sweet! Budgie tried really hare to get me to go somewhere with him, but I was totally into Siouxsie. I regret not doing Budgie now though. Lol

by Anonymousreply 12111/28/2017

This thread makes me appreciate just how nice and down to earth Elvis was supposed to be.

by Anonymousreply 12211/28/2017

I jerked off in HS thinking about John Doe.

by Anonymousreply 12311/28/2017

I really like Exene on the first two albums, but she’s a right-wing conspiracy-theorist nutjob these days.

by Anonymousreply 12411/28/2017

Joni's cuntiness goes back as far as Nazareth

by Anonymousreply 12511/28/2017

Kate Bush is a whacko

by Anonymousreply 12611/28/2017

"Li'l Peep?"

"Not One More Peep" is more like it.

by Anonymousreply 12711/28/2017

R123 - me too. After hearing Burning House of Love, I was hoping he was available. “Ride by your house late at night...”

I read somewhere that there is a 40th anniversary exhibit in LA on X. Wow, that was so long ago. Never saw X. Honestly I hated Exene’s voice. I saw John when he toured solo in the early 90s. He was awesome. I was also a big fan when he was on Roswell.

by Anonymousreply 12811/28/2017

r51 Stewart can be down to earth but is also up his own ass way too much re: his "talent".

A music industry vet was talking about how all the singers with great voices he knew were very modest about their sound with one exception: Rod Stewart. He was the only one who liked the sound of his own voice, and didn't try to improve on anything. (IIRC, the original question was about Steve Marriott).

by Anonymousreply 12911/28/2017

Any Jimmy Page stories?

by Anonymousreply 13011/28/2017

I don't know where that Exene Cervenka bitch gets off being so uppity. I had to google her just to see what band she is in and I've never heard of them.

by Anonymousreply 13111/28/2017

I would imagine that Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley can be real assholes. Gene moreso.

by Anonymousreply 13211/28/2017

R4 what were Lou Reed and Jaco like? Jaco was bipolar and according to Joni Mitchell and Pat Metheny it was very difficult to work with him since he would run off and go on huge drug binges for weeks at a time, and show up to practice so high he couldn't play, etc.

by Anonymousreply 13311/28/2017

R5 what did they say about Lou Reed besides that he basically lived on speed and heroin constantly and then became a major alcoholic?

by Anonymousreply 13411/28/2017

R12 what happened with the Fanilow? Did he decide "Let's not meet."?

by Anonymousreply 13511/28/2017

Any stories about Jarvis Cocker?

by Anonymousreply 13611/28/2017

It’s a genre thing, R131. If you had an interest in ‘70s/early ‘80s punk bands, you’d consider them famous.

by Anonymousreply 13711/28/2017

Please tell us more R32, which rock or other musicians are drug addled messes?

by Anonymousreply 13811/28/2017

I love Exene's singing, she's perfect for that sound. One of my favorite songs, Nausea, from the Decline of Western Civilization. The surly boy at the end was Darby Crash from the band the Germs, who killed himself with a deliberate overdose. He's also the guy drinking from the bag.

by Anonymousreply 13911/28/2017

R39 David Bowie was out as bisexual and open about it, but he just did not want to become a public spokesperson for bisexuality and LGBT people.

by Anonymousreply 14011/28/2017

R138, all of them were! most of them dabbled or were fucked up on it. Now many are older and sober, some still do it. many have died a few times like Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode, Slash of Guns n Roses.

by Anonymousreply 14111/28/2017

I believe it R44, did you ever see the old movie Carnal Knowledge? Art and Nicholson were not acting and were playing themselves.

by Anonymousreply 14211/28/2017

Has anyone here ever met anyone from the Allman brothers band? If so what were they like?

Which musicians claim to be "Sober" or "clean" but still use drugs?

by Anonymousreply 14311/28/2017

R104 he's with Dead & company with the rest of the still alive members of the grateful dead minus Phil Lesh, with Oteil Burbridge on bass, Jeff Chimenti on keys, and smoking lots of pot and probably taking acid and banging 10s.

I've heard mixed things about Phil Lesh just how he's either really nice, or comes across as a total asshole. His wife Jill is a total cunt but this isn't a secret. Claims to be "sober" but still drinks wine-with Cody's liver, and puffs herb.

Mickey Hart is a total asshole rageaholic who treats everyone, even his drum techs like shit, and he really hates the other band members but performs with them for money. Also still uses coke but so do Billy and Bobby.

by Anonymousreply 14411/28/2017

Mike Gordon of phish is a total asshole, and a creep. The BS about how "Mike's never tripped" is a lie, the entire band would take mushrooms and acid together on a regular basis in the 80s.

by Anonymousreply 14511/28/2017

I was at a bar next to Mike Gordon and he tipped one dollar for two five/six dollar beers. And the change he received included multiple one dollar bills. What a Jew.

And remember when he took the little girl away from the concert venue to photograph her in private, away from her parents, and then he got the shit beat out of him?

And then the band had to pay millions to keep the parents of the little girl quiet.

by Anonymousreply 14611/28/2017

Yes I do remember that R146 he's creepy and on phantasytour someone said how he is obsessed with young girls. I have also heard he's notoriously cheap despite how he's rich, and he's a total asshole to phans or people who see him in public and obviously know who he is. Are you on PT at all?

I am not sure if the other band members even like him? Mike puts down Trey in interviews, and Trey seems to be more focused on TAB instead of phish, Page sort of keeps to himself, and Fishman just posts BS on facebook and cares more about that and his joke band on the side than phish.

by Anonymousreply 14711/28/2017

R101 Joni is unique, and has been through a lot.

by Anonymousreply 14811/28/2017

r142 Yup.

by Anonymousreply 14911/28/2017

So at some point in the 70s, Iggy Pop and David Bowie lived together in Berlin for at least 6 months...who dumped who?

by Anonymousreply 15011/29/2017

R150 Iggy pop moved on. Bowie was also involved with pre op transexual Romy Haag in Berlin. They both were into transexuals. Google Iggy pop's current wife.

Someone asked about Lou Reed being an alcoholic asshole. In 1979 he beat up David Bowie (one of his very few friends) in a restaurant in front of the music press. It wasn't the first time, he also beat his first wife Betty and attempted to strangle her in front of witnesses.

by Anonymousreply 15111/29/2017

Saw Patti Smith at a reading not long ago and she seemed fake-authentic, if that makes any sense. Her vocals were actually pretty good (she sang one song). It was a pretty cool evening (I was not a fan so expectations were low), not a "revelation" though there was something about it that was supposed to lead there. She seemed very self-centered, as many people in her line of work are.

by Anonymousreply 15211/29/2017

I only met Lou once, and he left after I wouldn’t fawn over him. Never ran into him again.

R133 - I spent way too much time at 55 Bar (55 Christopher Street) drinking during my first year as a grad student. I met Jaco a few times. He was nice, but there was the mental health issue and the drug issue. I’m not sure if one caused the other. I was really amazed by his bass playing. His bass was fretless, but he modified it. He pulled out the frets and filled them in with boat epoxy. He showed me how he played harmonics on that bass. When I was at a party in the mid 90s, I won a $25 bet that I couldn’t play the bass. One of my fellow PhD students was an ass to me. I played Continuum and the first part of Teen Town. I was able to say “Yeah, Jaco taught me”.

by Anonymousreply 15311/29/2017

R136 - he’s the worst!

by Anonymousreply 15411/29/2017

Good story r153

by Anonymousreply 15511/29/2017

Thanks for the story about Marc Bolan R76. He has always been one of my favorites.

by Anonymousreply 15611/29/2017

A book by Marc Bolan's manager said he was a narcissist who ran off most of his friends. When he died, he was doing an afternoon kids' show and David Bowie was one of his last guests - there's a video somewhere of Marc accidentally falling off the stage and Bowie laughed. Soon after, he was riding home with his wife and she ran their car into a tree, immediately killing him (impaling him I think). His first wife refused to give any money to his black baby-mamma and David Bowie paid for the boy's schooling at expensive private school in the US. I've got the book around here somehwere - I can't remember the manager's name but he went way back to the beginning w/Bolan when he was playing psychedelic type stuff acoustically with a partner he later parted with (angrily as usual). This guy also produced records for Bowie who he said was a good guy and a great friend.

by Anonymousreply 15711/29/2017

There's a better video somewhere but you can see Marc fall and David laugh at about the 7 minute mark on this youtube.

by Anonymousreply 15811/29/2017

R157: Yeah, I read the same thing. Marc Bolan's son gave an interview in the Daily Mail shortly after David Bowie died, were he talked about how he helped pay for both his schooling and also helped his mother out in other ways.

by Anonymousreply 15911/29/2017

Tony Visconti was both Bolan's and Bowie's producer and he wrote a book about them:

by Anonymousreply 16011/29/2017

BTW, Visconti told Bowie that Major Tom was a stupid song and he shouldn't publish it -- I think Bowie sat on it a while after that but decided to put it out there anyway and the rest is history.

Some producer.

by Anonymousreply 16111/29/2017

I had a singer/songwriter friend (not famous, just local) who told me once that "artists" feel more deeply than others, they suffer more pain, etc. I think that's bullshit and it's mostly NPD and drugs with a good dose of mental illness. They all seem fucked up beyond repair.

by Anonymousreply 16211/29/2017

Lou Reed is DEAD now, r5.

by Anonymousreply 16311/29/2017

R29’s friend sounds like a pushy peddler.

by Anonymousreply 16411/29/2017

How funny about Diamond. I live in Austin and met some UT police officers who worked security at the Irwin Center. I asked them who the biggest asshole was and that is who they named. This was like 12 years ago but he was already a has been and these guys were young so they thought it was funny. They had to make sure no one looked him in the eyes while making sure they didn't look him in eyes. A friend's brother works at the hotel where Janet Jackson stayed her a couple of months ago on her tour. My friend went to the concert but she said her brother, I think it was the W hotel, got to be around to help get things ready for her baby who was on tour with her. Said everyone thought she was a major cunt.

by Anonymousreply 16511/29/2017

r137, on the DL, it's 'jandra', not genre.

by Anonymousreply 16611/29/2017

[quote] Cyndi Lauper was one of the performers, and while the other musical guests before her sang a song or two and moved on, Miss Lauper stopped and started her set half a dozen times until she and her band got it right. She was whiney and demanding, berating the band, the sound guys, etc. The other acts were fun and spontaneous, but she killed the mood by being a perfectionist diva. Love her, but I thought she behaved like a jerk for holding us hostage and boring us with what should've been done during sound check.

I used to be the biggest Cyndi Lauper fan, and have seen her in concert at least a half dozen times since 1984. I finally had to stop going because of this increasingly awful behavior. The last three times I attended her show, this sort of behavior happened multiple times during her set. Not only did it make her look like a flaming asshole, but it pretty much ruined the vibe of the evening that WE paid for. By the last time I saw her, she was cursing out her band or stopping songs and starting over, replacing earpieces or mics, etc. after or during every song. I was done.

by Anonymousreply 16711/29/2017

This is why I pay $1.50 a month. Keep em comig

by Anonymousreply 16811/29/2017

Chris Robinson of the black crowes is a major douche and constantly shits on his band members, fans of his bands, other musicians who he plays as a guest with, and actually believes he was or is the next Mick Jagger, Jerry Garcia, or Gregg Allman when in reality he's just a rich kid from ATL who basically just copies other bands. He was/is addicted to coke and heroin but none of this is a real secret.

by Anonymousreply 16911/29/2017

Mick Jones of the Clash is me of the nicest blokes you could hope to meet. Used to bump into him around Notting Hill.

John Lydon was really good to my other half who walked up to him after watching others, including myself, shake his hand when he was drinking in our local. Other half said he didn’t like Lydon’s music that much. Lydon laughed and asked him who he did like. When he replied Johnny Mathis Lydon jumped up, asked him his name ( Paul ) and said ‘That’s our music, isn’t it Paul’, grabbed him and proceeded to waltz around the pub with him. We had a few drinks with him. He was a laugh.

Mate of mine out on the town in NY with his mates met Liam Gallagher and they spent the rest of the night going from bar to bar. He was a laugh apparently.

Met Freddy Mercury at a party when he was quite ill. Sat with Kenny Everett in the kitchen. I knew Everett from the bar where I worked the door so said hello and he introduced us. He was charming.

Chatted with Jimmy Page at a poetry reading his girlfriend was doing. Laid back friendly. Van Morrison was with them. Kept himself to himself.

Drank with Shane McGowan some years back. Good bloke and, again, totally charming to my other half. He’s older than me so would have been in his 50s then and, while an avid Little Richard and Fats Domino fan, knew of McGowan’s reputation and was intrigued by him, being something of a drinker himself. They sat and chatted at the bar for a while.

No bad experiences. Darn.

by Anonymousreply 17011/29/2017

Isn't Lydon gay? I think I read somewhere that his wife is just a beard and he's been in a relationship with his manager or producer for years...

by Anonymousreply 17111/29/2017

Was Lou Reed really an alcoholic in later life? I thought he went clean when he married Sylvia Morales. He made a public display of his sobriety. What happened?

by Anonymousreply 17211/29/2017

[quote] Lou Reed, one of the most notorious assholes to have ever walked the earth

A couple of documentaries recently ("Danny Says" and "Shot!") have used audiotapes of Reed talking with people and colleagues and even when around friends, even when the tapes were edited to show him in a positive light, he came across as a dick.

by Anonymousreply 17311/29/2017

Neil Diamond is super touchy, and it depends on which venue and his mood as to whether staff can look at him or not. Some of it is because of the crazy things fans have done in the past, which were sometimes scary. But it's also because he has major back problems and requires medical and PT staff, and until recently he was trying to hide all that.

I don't know if any of you are old enough to remember his heyday in the 1970s and how people would make fun of how he was always running up to a mic, even when just presenting Grammy awards. That running was actually to cover a limp he had because of a huge tumor pressing on his spine. He had that removed but then had a couple of motorcycle accidents later on, and now his back is a disaster. If anyone saw him on The View in about 2010, you probably noticed he was high as a kite on painkillers and could barely walk up the steps to get to his chair.

by Anonymousreply 17411/29/2017

Dr. Teeth chewed out the rest of the Electric Mayhem during a sound check in Duluth. Interestingly, the drummer was a doll, though.

by Anonymousreply 17511/29/2017

[quote]Anyone have the misfortune to come across Elton during his cocaine years?

I once talked to a girl who was in group rehab with him in the late 1980s. Everyone paired off and shared contact info with someone else so they had someone to call if they were feeling weak or relapsing, and she was paired off with him, but he gave her a number to a manager's office and she couldn't get hold of him. He stopped showing up to group pretty quickly, too.

I only knew her because the replacement guy she was paired off with was a friend of mine who joined the group after Elton left, apparently.

by Anonymousreply 17611/29/2017

Janice of Electric Mayhem was my role model.

by Anonymousreply 17711/29/2017

You just know Janice was cool as hell, R177.

Zoot, also. Is it possible to be any cooler? I wanted to date him when I was 5.

by Anonymousreply 17811/29/2017

Wasn't Diamond outed as the U.S. singer who raped some girl after he performed on top of the pops in the U.K.? The girl ended up committing suicide shortly after the alleged rape.

by Anonymousreply 17911/29/2017

We thought he fit the clues, R179, but so did Stevie Wonder. Also Tom Jones and Frankie Valli were strong contenders.

She killed herself after a family fight, though, not because of the rock star (as far as we know). Had a good thread on it a while back:

by Anonymousreply 18011/29/2017

R180 Tom Jones is Welsh

by Anonymousreply 18111/29/2017

R167 Cyndi Lauper's a pit bull advocate. What should we expect?

by Anonymousreply 18211/29/2017

Hey now! Don't forget about me!

Don Henley called paramedics to his home on November 21, 1980, where a 16-year-old girl was found naked and claiming she had overdosed on quaaludes and cocaine. She was arrested for prostitution, while a 15-year-old girl found in the house was arrested for being under the influence of drugs. He was subsequently charged for contributing to the delinquency of a minor, fined and put on probation.[75][76][77] Henley was arrested and pleaded no contest. He was fined $2,500 and put on two years' probation.[78] Chiles, who was no longer in a relationship with Henley at the time of the incident, later said, "I was shocked to hear about it. He didn't have drugs around the house. It was an accident, I'm sure."[74]

by Anonymousreply 18311/29/2017

R180: It could be Frankie Valli, he's been accused of being rough with women in the past. Both his ex wife and lover have spoken up about the abuse they suffered at his hands.

by Anonymousreply 18411/29/2017

R162, I have an artist friend who makes the same claim. Like you, I don't believe they're tortured, just really self-absorbed. My sarcastic saying about them is: Being an artist means never having to get up in the morning (until you feel like it). I once knew a female artist (unsuccessful) who developed female problems and became voluntarily bedridden. She refused to get the recommended hysterectomy, claiming the uterus is the seat of female creativity and she couldn't be an artist without it. Instead, she tried to get on disability. Yeah, for a problem that could be fixed with an operation.

As for famous rock jerks, forget Ted Nugent and his underage girlfriend. But Glen Frey was a real loser, too. A complete asshole and obnoxious bully who believed he WAS The Eagles. To listen to him, none of the other members (except Henley) contributed anything. I saw the Eagles on their Long Run tour, and he was such an ass, constantly telling the happy, rowdy crowd to shut the fuck up, and threatening to walk off the stage after every song.

Before the Beatles made it big, while they were in Germany, John Lennon supposedly pissed out of a window onto some nuns passing by underneath. He also savagely attacked Stu Sutcliffe, and Sutcliffe's head injury has been attributed either to being jumped by thugs or by the beating he took from Lennon. In the Beatles' heyday, Lennon supposedly raped a girl at a concert just before he went onstage. The story went that he told his manager that he had to have sex before he would go on. They had a couple roadies go into the audience and grab a nearby girl, dragged her backstage, John raped her, and the band ran onstage to perform. But my favorite asshole Lennon story was that he supposedly would pull cat turds out of the litter box and ploppthem in Yoko's path, so she'd step in them before she'd realized what she'd done.

by Anonymousreply 18511/29/2017

I don’t have any stories but Darryl Hall has an awful reputation.

by Anonymousreply 18611/29/2017

R185 most people are self-absorbed. Your friend may be that and an "artist" (most who consider themselves artists have no talent), but she's also mentally ill.

by Anonymousreply 18711/29/2017

Sting has an autistic child? Never heard this gossip. Which one?

Sting's eldest son, Joe Sumner, from his marriage to his first wife Irish actress Frances Tomelty, is a working musician, he sings and has a band. One of Sting's daughters, Coco Elliot Sumner, with Trudie, is a lesbian, she sings and plays bass, she reminds me of Jaco Pastorious and her voice sounds like Sting's. Coco has worked with singer Robyn. Coco is dating some famous model, forgot her name.

Sting's eldest daughter with his first wife, Kate Sumner, is an actress as is the eldest daughter Bridgette Mickey Sumner, with Trudie. Mickey has been in several films with Greta Gerwig.

I gather the autistic child is one of the younger kids, two boys? Giacomo or Jake? I used to be a huge Police/Sting fan, I never heard about any of his kids being autistic.

Here's Coco, she looks a lot like Sting, pre-nose job.

by Anonymousreply 18811/29/2017

wow, sting's kids are ugly.

by Anonymousreply 18911/29/2017

Sting's kids aren't ugly, most of them are pretty attractive. Coco has an androgynous look, she seems to go out of her way to ugly up herself.

She was an adorable child. She looks cute here. This pic was taken before she went for her full-on dykey lesbian, no makeup, flat dirty hair and all around masculine look.

When she was on Kimmel, she looked like Sting with long dark hair!

by Anonymousreply 19011/29/2017

No r22 I worked at Title Wave. And yes R109, Mr Manilow left the building knowing full well a "Fanilow" from Japan had landed and was en route to the event. It was particularly galling because we pretty much figured he was not leaving the city on time (because of the snow storm) and was likely headed to a suite in some hotel on the 494 strip for a room service dinner and a romp with a local escort who had snow tires.

by Anonymousreply 19111/29/2017

That is seriously shitty. No one could convince him to stay?

by Anonymousreply 19211/29/2017

John Lennon also beat his first wife Cynthia. He also ignored their son Julian, and even accused the poor kid of being unwanted and coming into the world from a "bottle of whiskey".

by Anonymousreply 19311/29/2017

I have never heard a single good thing about Don Henley, he's a mega-asshole and a complete pig.

by Anonymousreply 19411/29/2017

Saying Shane McGowan is a drinker is like saying Jimi Hendrix was a guitar player, R170.

by Anonymousreply 19511/29/2017

Wasn't Lennon's own upbringing, shitty? Didn't his mother abandon him, he was raised by an aunt? It's no surprise that he treated Julian and anyone else like shit.

by Anonymousreply 19611/29/2017

R191 I worked at Title Wave, too. Which one?

by Anonymousreply 19711/29/2017

Poor Lou Reed had ELECTRO SHOCK "gay conversion" therapy. I mean really. I'm sure he was an asshole and borderline and an addict, but how the fuck did that happen?

by Anonymousreply 19811/29/2017

That's what electro shock did, it didn't cure the gay and it turned you into a raging asshole as well... I knew an old queen that had it done when he was in his late teens in the early '60s. He said he was never the same happy about town twink he used to be. He became closeted, married a fat frau and began to vote republican.

by Anonymousreply 19911/29/2017

His mother did pass him to an aunt, but that's no excuse for being an abusive asshole. One of the last things he said to Julian in person, when teenage Julian was visiting him, was that he hated his laugh. Julian was laughing at something and that was his reaction. The fact is John was often cruel just for the hell of it, just because he got off on seeing he could inflict the pain. Yes he'd sometimes feel bad about it later but he did real damage to people.

by Anonymousreply 20011/29/2017

R132, Gene Simmons is the douchiest fuckwad who ever picked up a bass. All accounts paint him out to be an arrogant, condescending, insufferable mama's boy who lives up to the stereotype of the rapacious Jew. The latest story I heard about him (not counting his recent incident of walking into Fox TV staffroom and exposing his chest and saying something lewd as a mockery of the spate of sexual-harassment charges currently going on) involved a hotel employee. He helped Gene and his wife with their luggage, brought it into their room, and the prick--with that godforsaken wig and ever-present sunglasses--said, "I suppose you're waiting for me to give you a tip." He opened his wallet and threw two one-dollar bills on the ground.

R56, I am so happy to hear that Roger Daltrey is a sweetheart. I fell in lust with him when I was very young and saw his hotness in "Tommy," and have adored him and The Who ever since. Great, solid, talented, hardworking man with no scandals I can think of.

by Anonymousreply 20111/29/2017

R66 "Literally" meaning you've polled every person on earth regarding their feelings about Lou Reed

by Anonymousreply 20211/29/2017

Before Laurie Anderson, wasn't Lou Reed married to a transexual? I remember she was Hispanic and very mannish looking.

by Anonymousreply 20311/29/2017

Apparently she was someone who kind of hung out with Reed, along with some other trannies, drag queens and the like. She just happened to stick around longer than others, and even moved in and kept house for him at one point.

by Anonymousreply 20411/29/2017

Reed had a long-term trans girlfriend in the 70s (though apparently she sometimes also lived as a man--which makes her gender fluid, I guess?). Anyway, her name was Rachel and noone really knows what happened to her after they split, but she's assumed to be a victim of AIDS.

by Anonymousreply 20511/29/2017

John was pretty shitty to Cynthia throughout their relationship and marriage. Some of the highlights:

She came home from a vacation, found John and Yoko in bathrobes in the sunroom, acting nonchalant about her presence.

After their trip to India (Which John tried to get Yoko invited to as well. However, that was vetoed by the other Beatles or maybe that was when they went off to Bangor...) on the plane ride back home, John get really drunk and told Cynthia about all of the affairs he'd had during the course of their relationship.

He also sent one of his hanger ons 'Magic Alex' after Cynthia to seduce and bed her. He'd planned on being the once to file of divorce on the grounds of infidelity. It didn't work. Cynthia didn't sleep with 'Magic Alex'.

According to Julian, that's the reason why he rarely smiles in photos. His father's harsh words about his smile made him quiet self conscious.

by Anonymousreply 20611/29/2017

I worked at several of them r197, plus the corporate office. It was a good thing while it lasted. Luckily I bailed not too long before the sale that only enriched Mr. LK.

by Anonymousreply 20711/29/2017

R205: There's some pictures of them on stage together and she looks like a man, period. If he was into trannies then he must have had a fetish for the mannish types, because there's no way that thing he was with could have passed for a woman. He also must have been a short arse because the trannie towered over him, even without heels.

I also heard a bizarre rumour that Peter Buck was into grannie porn and hiring elder lady dommes to come over to his house for sessions...

by Anonymousreply 20811/29/2017

Morrissey being a cunt is no lie. I worked at a store where he made an appearance and he was dreadful.

The Go-Go's have been the subject of several threads here that exposed most of them for the backstabbing cunts they are. It's nearly all of them, but Belinda Carlisle and Jane Wiedlin are the worst, the Heathers of the group who would throw others under the bus with a smile, and have a huge sense of entitlement.

I've heard a few things bubble up about the members of Arcade Fire. Case of believing their own hype. Same with that fat hipster douche from LCD Soundsystem.

Billy Corgan puts the hole in asshole.

Natalie Merchant puts the CUNT in cunt.

Decent rock star? Henry Rollins. Met him several times. Smart as fuck. And while he's short, I don't think I've ever met anyone in my life who so naturally exuded sensuality and virile masculinity. Some guys pose all that, act the role, but he just WAS, which made him very sexy to me.

by Anonymousreply 20911/29/2017

Julian Lennon came and performed for free at our city's annual fundraiser for medical research into kids' health issues (telethon in perth) and unlike most other pergormers, donated a fucktonne of his own money. Probably the only performer to donate more than time ever.

by Anonymousreply 21011/29/2017

And agree with the poster upthread about Joni Mitchell. She is negative, but never seemed to be a cunt for cunt's sake. She is (or was) a little bit up her own ass, but she had a point to much of it, and she still, in some corners, doesn't get the respect that male stars of her generation get, when her work is far more outstanding and/or important.

I respect a bitch that has no time to play and suffers no fools.

OH! And speaking of assholes....has anyone mentioned James fucking Taylor?

by Anonymousreply 21111/29/2017

R170 drinking with Shane McGowan? You win this thread!

by Anonymousreply 21211/29/2017

R209, what was the deal with Billy Corgan? I met him once (albeit briefly) and he was normal, kind, and low-key. I could see him being a dick in the studio (he's very controlling, writes all the songs, dealt with some majorly unreliable junkies in his band) but outside of that he was very decent. Have any details?

by Anonymousreply 21311/29/2017

R210 Julian Lennon is a doll. A real cool guy. I've met him and later went to an informal party at his house. Just hung out for awhile.

by Anonymousreply 21411/29/2017

R213 He's kind of very much a product of his upbringing: Chicago suburbanite who had his party time and is now a conservative asshole. What I've heard is that the Pumpkins as a collaborative band just shattered after their success with Gish, and Billy started manipulating the others. Success can be the worst thing to happen to some people.

by Anonymousreply 21511/29/2017

I've told this story before but here goes again. I was backstage at a Linda Ronstadt concert in 1978 at the, then, Universal Amphitheater. There was a VIP room and in walks none other than Phil Spector with entourage. Linda was a doll but she was clearly disturbed by his presence. Anyways, he proceeds to chat her up and then it came time for the show. Linda tried to leave and Spector grabbed her arm and told her she was going to stay and talk to him. Linda's people intervened and Linda yelled at him "Go back to the fucking zoo." It was weird but considering what happened to Lana Clarkson, I couldn't get it out of my mind. I sent an account to the prosecutor's office but they obviously didn't follow up on it.

Speaking of James Taylor, about a decade ago, he rented a house in my neighborhood from Jackie Collins. He and his wife Kim wanted to put a vegetable garden in the front yard but the rental agent told them they couldn't Both very cool and humble people. He told me Jackie's house smelled of cat piss and her bedroom looked like a coffin. And if anyone wants to know, I can't tell you anything about Jackie because she never said anything to anyone in the neighborhood.

by Anonymousreply 21611/29/2017

Gene Simmons is an ass. I had to set up an interview with him about ten years ago. He stuck his (very long) tongue in my assistants ear. She screamed in shock!

by Anonymousreply 21711/29/2017

R143 Gregg Allman as we all know was extremely talented. But a hell raiser. I set up an interview with him and for him to perform acoustically. He was completely incoherent when I spoke to him pre-interview. I was sweating he'd be a disaster once the lights went on. To my shock, he performed perfectly - Midnight Rider and Melissa. Nice guy too.

by Anonymousreply 21811/29/2017

R176 Yes, I met Elton in 1989 after his Hollywood Bowl show. I met him at an after party. He was smashed out of his mind. I can't believe he performed so flawlessly just an hour before.

Soon after, he cleaned up and the rest is history.

by Anonymousreply 21911/29/2017

I love the Smashing Pumpkins (since before they officially added the "The") but have had zero interest in ever meeting Billy Corgan since learning he's a major fan of professional wrestling.

by Anonymousreply 22011/29/2017

About eight or nine years ago I was having lunch with a very attractive female friend of mine at the now shuttered Isabella’s on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, it was a weekday and we were lazily enjoying the meal. From the back of the dining room saunters Bono with a few people, he was definitely feeling no pain and we extremely friendly to anyone who gave him a wave etc, when he spied my friend he swooned over to the table and proceeded to nearly join us, he wasn’t exactly being a jerk, but he was DEFINITELY becoming the “friend who stays too long at the party”, if one of his fellow diners didn’t come and gently pull him away we still might be sitting there!

The biggest jerk musician wise was 100% Foxy Brown, a complete cunt.

by Anonymousreply 22111/29/2017

Gene Simmons has always been about the business side of things. Anyone who takes KISS seriously are fucking retards. That band was formed for thing only, money. The poster who said he came across as a stereotypical rapacious Jew has nailed it I'm afraid. He's sold out to everything under the sun from mini golf to sun tan lotion, all under the KISS name. He couldn't even play the bass properly, not that he ever cared really. It was always about money and getting his fugly mug into women's pants.

by Anonymousreply 22211/29/2017

R220, he's an extremely normal dude who actually loves all sports in general. But how can you thumb your nose at him for being obsessed with leotard-clad grown men who roll around on the ground together?

by Anonymousreply 22311/29/2017

Speaking of Gene Simmons, that has got to be one of the worst artificial plug jobs I've ever seen on a human scalp. With all his money he should have been able to get better work done. He's either too fucking cheap to go to a better surgeon or he just doesn't realise how bad it looks.

by Anonymousreply 22411/29/2017

Here's Lou with Rachel, are you sure they weren't married? Looks like a wedding cake to me. Rachel wasn't pretty at all.

Lou had two other wives before Laurie. I assume both were biological women.

by Anonymousreply 22511/29/2017

One Lou's wives, Silvia Morales. They married in the early 1980s.

by Anonymousreply 22611/29/2017

R225: Fuck me, she looks like a monster next to little Louie. I'm assuming she was the more masculine of the two, despite the femme attire. I think I remember reading an interview from someone who knew Rachel, he said she was seriously messed up with drugs and Reed didn't really care about her in the slightest. She was obsessed with being with him and would basically take any of his shit no matter what he did to her.

by Anonymousreply 22711/29/2017

I'm surprised to hear someone say Graham Nash is an asshole. I met him after a concert and was really impressed with him. I thought I was talking to one of the PR guys for the band, then he shook my hand and introduced himself.

by Anonymousreply 22811/29/2017

R228 I’m the one who said Graham Nash is an asshole and I stand by it.

by Anonymousreply 22911/29/2017

Rachel looks much better in this pic.

by Anonymousreply 23011/29/2017

R157, Marc Bolan's baby mama was none other than Gloria "Tainted Love" Jones.

by Anonymousreply 23111/29/2017

Think Gloria Jones was in the car crash that killed Marc.

by Anonymousreply 23211/29/2017

Ted Nugent is supposed to be into beastiality. The rumour is he employs skanks to have sex with dogs, preferable Alsatians. He likes to see women jack of the dogs while they also masturbate. He's been doing this for years apparently, however it's started to come out recently because he's become really cheap and doesn't tip the skanks as much as he used to. He also goes onto some kind of website dedicated to dog porn on the darkweb, where his username is dogtanion.

by Anonymousreply 23311/29/2017

R232 Gloria was driving. Both had been drinking and neither were likely to be wearing seatbelts. This was normal in the 70's in the UK.

by Anonymousreply 23411/29/2017

R227 Rachel was the woman in the partnership. Reed did care about her, or so he told Lester Bangs (rock critic) but he was abusive towards the people he was in relationships with. He was a nasty voilent drunk, probably full of self hatred.

by Anonymousreply 23511/29/2017

They were driving a mini, those things are death traps in an impact. It's one of the worst cars you could ever have a crash like that in.

by Anonymousreply 23611/29/2017

R235: I'm just going off the interview, the guy said he knew both of them and Reed was really abusive and just didn't care if she came or went. She was the one according to him who hung in there, trying to stay with Reed.

by Anonymousreply 23711/29/2017

R170 here.

R171 - I’ve heard that said. He does knock around with his old mate Rambo a lot, who I think maybe helps manage him. Certainly the bloke acts as a buffer and you have to get past him to speak to Lydon, or that is his intention. I chatted to him a bit. Initially a little spikey but thawed out. Lydon was pretty focussed on two ladies at the next table initially. He was also far more patient than I would be with the constant approaches from people. Rambo couldn’t stop them all. I wasn’t going to bother him but the friends I was with knew how punk had truly been a bit of a lifesaver for me ( I was 16 in ‘76 ). Glad I did. He was a laugh. I think he took to my partner because he’s a straight talking Yorkshireman ( worked down the pits etc ) and not an arse kisser.

R195 - that time he was drinking the largest bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale I have ever seen. Never seen bottles like that on sale. With a full pint of Cinzano or Campari or something as a chaser. He was also wearing an immaculate grey sharkskin suit.

R212 - He used to drink in Filthy McNasty’s a lot and a bunch of us were working just around the corner. Also in a couple of Camden watering holes. Depp used to hang out with him and he was there in one of those places one time. Kept it all very low key. There was a big group of us around three tables. They just mucked in like anyone else. All of us were big drinkers back then.

by Anonymousreply 23811/29/2017

R237 you're probably right. He did fall out with Lester Bangs over something he wrote about Rachel though. He was probably just a fucked up individual at this point out who lashed out at the people who were close to him.

by Anonymousreply 23911/29/2017

Sorry for spelling and grammar mistakes in R235 and R239. Just woke up and my eyesight isn't too good in the morning.

by Anonymousreply 24011/29/2017

R211 when did Isabellas close? Atlantic Grill is closing too - Lenox hill hospital is building a condo on that block.

by Anonymousreply 24111/29/2017

Wait, John Lydon is gay? And his heiress wife a beard? Please tell us more.

by Anonymousreply 24211/29/2017

A close friend living in ATL would frequently encounter Whitney Houston at an A&P as she came off her 2nd shift job. Whitney would stroll in for cigs, milk , etc. She said that often women or teens would go crazy to see her, alone usually. Every time Whitney was as gracious, patient and would chat them up briefly. She noted that Whitney was so ordinary, kind. As for her, she said that she was totally in awe and so shy to approach her, she just couldnt believe she was watching her. My friend really deeply regrets not having shared her love and admiration for Whitney with her. She said Whitney hardly put on airs.

by Anonymousreply 24311/29/2017

You should all be in your graves

by Anonymousreply 24411/29/2017

LOL at the idea of Jane Wiedlin being a Heather girl. A friend of mine was hired to be an ASSISTANT chef for her. Yeah, she needed her chef to have a helper. Jane liked simple food - Hamburger Helper made with turkey, wild rice and Yorkshire pudding were her favorites. She spoke around her house with a British accent and always said she was working on solo material but she was never near a guitar or a piano.

by Anonymousreply 24511/29/2017

R209 I also met Henry Rollins, he's very nice and will talk to fans or people who approach him after shows. He is very short, and no I don't think he's gay or bisexual. But I've read queens on here claim he is or who are hopeful he is.

by Anonymousreply 24611/29/2017

Thanks R218 did you meet anyone else from the Allmans? I'm not surprised that Gregg was drunk and/or high yet could play music and sing fine. I saw Gregg and his bands live more than any other musicians and he always put on a great show. It was very sad how Butch Trucks the drummer killed himself. I saw him and his band right before he did and he was in a great mood and put on a great show.

by Anonymousreply 24711/30/2017

Having worked with professional musicians, I tend to think for the so-called insightful tidbits involving sound checks - are just that. Real deal sound checks. The performances (and recordings) are their livelihood and you’d be surprised at the number of: inept, incompetent, unprofessional fuckwads that get sent or assigned to a musician at a public venue. Is it wrong to ask for professional sound equipment and engineers? I don’t think so. I highly suspect the butt hurt stories around sound checks are due to people who deserved to not be there. And they know it. They just got called on it, and had to make up an exaggerated story to explain why they weren’t going to open for X musician. I’ve known some of the above mentioned. They love music, could jam all day with friends and new friends. But the performance stage is their bread and butter.

Bizarre example? A flamboyant bottom was supposed to be doing sound at a venue. All of a sudden onstage he appeared behind equipment, laying on his side, smiling and blowing kisses to the musicians. Amazingly, he didn’t last.

by Anonymousreply 24811/30/2017

R248 that guy doing sound on stage sounds like a creep, and is the reason why they hate us.

R233 I know Ted Nugent is a huge tool and asshole but is any of that true or are you just trolling?

by Anonymousreply 24911/30/2017

Henry Rollins lived with the late actor Dennis Cole's son Joe and was with him when he was murdered.

by Anonymousreply 25011/30/2017

More scoop please!

by Anonymousreply 25111/30/2017

I forget what talk show my friend was working on but she told me Gene Simmons was a guest one time and would not stop staring her down trying to get some kind of reaction from her. She said it was funny at first because it was so pathetic but got really creepy because he just wouldn't stop eye-fucking her.

by Anonymousreply 25211/30/2017

Not a rock star but Jim Brickman was a real diva when he did an in-store appearance at the Barnes & Noble I worked at in the mid-90s. Lots of demands and attitude considering he was still up-and-coming at the time.

by Anonymousreply 25311/30/2017

Is Brickman the Christian homosexual?

by Anonymousreply 25411/30/2017

[quote]A close friend living in ATL would frequently encounter Whitney Houston at an A&P as she came off her 2nd shift job.

Whitney worked at an A&P?

by Anonymousreply 25511/30/2017

With all the sex abuse stories now coming out, I wonder what Jackson Browne is thinking.

by Anonymousreply 25611/30/2017

R209, any more details on the Morrissey in-store? Saw him at once at one and he seemed gracious and retiring. Borderline shy.

by Anonymousreply 25711/30/2017

[quote] LOL at the idea of Jane Wiedlin being a Heather girl.

She may have been a quiet frau at home but her and Belinda were bad around each other. They did turn into Heathers. Belinda was the leader, and Jane would follow.

To be clear - this is how it's been since they reunited. Jane did fight back against Belinda when she left for her solo career. Jane poured her soul into Talk Show and others took credit. She wasn't able to sing on a song she'd expected to sing on. But everything they've done since 1990 has been all business, and a lot of manipulation and shitstirring. Kathy's court filing has a hysterical (but sad) outline of Who Are We Mad At Today?

by Anonymousreply 25811/30/2017

R257 Well, a lot of usual bullshit. Don't look him in the eye. We had to relay all messages to our manager, who would then tell Morrisey's person, who had to write it on a piece of paper because HE wasn't allowed to look Her Royal Highness in the mirror, either.

He was supposed to appear in a talk with a local radio DJ for 15 minutes, and sign something for 15 minutes for a select group of people - I think it was his latest album. We had maybe 15-20 people who had won tickets through a big radio drawing to get things signed. And then he and his band were supposed to sing a few numbers from the album, for which we had thousands of people outside waiting for.

The DJ interview starts and it's a bomb. Monosyllabic replies and after three or four questions, Morrissey removes his lav mic and is all "OK, done with that." He walks over to the signing table, complains about the marker that's there, and signs, I think, two or three items. He gets terribly angry because a store patron has food in their hands which is distracting him, and then he flounces to the back room, which him and his crew have commandeered.

They come out, do one song, and they are gone. So, of their three commitments, they completed NONE of them.

There isn't a single person I know of who was there and didn't just want to shit on his records after that day. I still have my Smiths records, but that day killed my ability to appreciate his solo stuff.

by Anonymousreply 25911/30/2017

I don't understand why some of these guys are such fucking assholes. The "little people" are the ones who made them their money.

by Anonymousreply 26011/30/2017

Morrissey sounds like he's mentally ill.

by Anonymousreply 26111/30/2017

Isnt it Jane Weidlin that is very involved in the S and M community ? r245

by Anonymousreply 26211/30/2017

I did a search but could not find definitions of a "Heather" or a "Heather girl." Can someone explain that, please?

by Anonymousreply 26311/30/2017

Paul McCartney can be a real prick.

by Anonymousreply 26411/30/2017

If anyone wants to read what Elton was like during his coke years, read this dishy tome with the unfortunate title:

by Anonymousreply 26511/30/2017

Glad to read two genuine talents, Albert King and Dave Alvin, are good guys.

by Anonymousreply 26611/30/2017

R263, watch the movie Heathers.

by Anonymousreply 26711/30/2017

STING isn't even leaving his kids anything in his will. Rod Stewart & Mick Jagger swallow. So does Rob Halford.

by Anonymousreply 26811/30/2017

Jesus, how are more stories like this not floating around out there about Morrissey? Sounds like a nightmare to deal with. Sorry you had to deal with his bullshit, R259.

by Anonymousreply 26911/30/2017

R267, thank you for taking time out of your busy day to provide us with such an insightful, perceptive and enlightening explanation.

by Anonymousreply 27011/30/2017

R269 The sad thing is, I loved him, and we all knew he was a bit eccentric. We were willing to give him a wide berth. Having a generation of fans who just so deeply identify with your work - and the Smiths had those "stans," partly because there was no one else like them - can be overwhelming. But this went way beyond the "hey, he's been on tour, he's tired, he's in a bad mood" thing. He treated everyone as if they'd just taken a flaming dump on his shoes.

But it was a good lesson, which I've kept in mind when working with freelance clients. I worked with a rising indie musician recently and told him the story with the admonishment "You can have a bad day, but try not to be THAT asshole."

by Anonymousreply 27111/30/2017

Re: James Taylor.....

Funny thing is, all the guys that have met him seem to hold him in high regard.

All the women find him creepy and borderline abusive. He seems to have issues with women.

by Anonymousreply 27211/30/2017

i am the above poster who said morrissey is a miserable cunt. My friend worked at a venue he showed up to and he made all kinds of demand, that he didn't want to sign autographs, no pictures, no one approach him, all kinds of bs. when he showed up, he was nasty and unfriendly. girl must have been on his period or something...

by Anonymousreply 27311/30/2017

And you know all of this from personal experience, r268 ?

by Anonymousreply 27411/30/2017

R268 so Rod Stewart and Mick are bisexual then?

Any more details about Rob Halford? Did you hook up with him? Or know someone who has? In his interviews he claimed to be more into having sex while in a relationship and claimed he did not hook up that often and was closeted for decades but I am not so sure that's true?

by Anonymousreply 27511/30/2017

I think Rob Halford is openly gay.

Rod Stewart... heard rumors for years that he swang both ways, but no proof.

Mick, well... read my book (the first version).

by Anonymousreply 27611/30/2017

Rod steward is cheap. doesn't tip! got free drinks but didn't tip 1 cent. my friend served him.

by Anonymousreply 27711/30/2017

R275 Have heard rumours that Rod Stewart was a rent boy back in his mod days in London. Same thing for David Bowie. Don't know how true though.

by Anonymousreply 27811/30/2017

Rob Halford has always been out far as I know. We hosted an appearance of his back in the early '90s and he was in full leather daddy gear with his very cute twink boyfriend who by now I am sure, is also a heavy tatted leather daddy. Very nice guys, enjoyed weed, music, life.

by Anonymousreply 27911/30/2017

Derek Trucks who used to play with the Allman brothers band and DTB (Derek Trucks Band), and who has a band Tedeschi Trucks Band with his wife Susan Tedeschi used to be really nice and down to earth and would talk to fans after shows. But now he's snobby, forgets where he came from, really loves coke, smokes lots of herb but only after shows, cheats on his wife despite them touring together, and apparently has a micro penis from what a friend who hooked up with him said.

Warren Haynes is very kind and nice but he smokes a lot of herb, does drink alcohol despite claiming in interviews he does not, loves coke when it's around, and basically hits on any groupie/backstage scenester chick even if they are not that good looking. His wife Steph is annoying though and thinks he's the next Hendrix or Duane Allman when he's just a generic blues player and basically now a professional cover artist.

Jimmy Herring is the nicest musician ever. Always talks to fans, is kind/considerate, and doesn't cheat on his wife.

Gregg Allman was also very nice and would talk to fans but only when he was outside venues, and when his security was around.

Dickey Betts is the nicest member out of all of the Allman brothers. He is very kind to fans, and a nice guy, but if he's extremely drunk and not in a nice mood he will let you know this. My friends in college helped set up the stage for him at a local venue and they were told not to approach him as he just wanted to relax before the show, so that's what they did.

Oteil Burbridge of the Allmans and dead co. loves herb and mushrooms, and acid, is a nice guy, married but gets with some side piece chick that does yoga and tried to scam rich scenester/Trustafarians that if they paid a lot of money they could go to Iceland with her and Oteil, and apparently that never happened.

Butch Trucks was very nice and kind, but if he was angry, in a bad mood, or did not like you he would let you know.

Bill Kreutzmann is nice, only if you have drugs or are a hot chick with tits. Uses coke even in his 70s, loves herb, still trips occasionally, and is a total garbage can when it comes to taking drugs. Really does not like most of his fans, but only puts up with them to get free drugs.

Bob Weir is nice and loves to party with fans but goes overboard with it. Is a major alcoholic, loves opiates and even coke if it's around, and loves to hook up with young adult women.

Dave Matthews is really stuck up, snobby, loves coke and had a heroin addiction, and hooks up with college aged women.

Mike Gordon of phish is a total douchebag asshole, who is stuck up and who thinks he's the next Jaco.

[quote][R209] I also met Henry Rollins, he's very nice and will talk to fans or people who approach him after shows. He is very short, and no I don't think he's gay or bisexual. But I've read queens on here claim he is or who are hopeful he is.

Henry Rollins very nice, eh? How about the night he jerked off on some woman's head? The story goes, he brought some chick he met at one of his gigs, back to his hotel room, but she fell asleep. Not sure if she drank too much or was stoned. Henry was so pissed off that he couldn't fuck her when he wanted to, as she slept, he jerked off on her head. Yeah, such a nice guy!

by Anonymousreply 28211/30/2017

Well I'm not a woman R282, and did that woman go to the police or file a police report about being sexually assaulted? What you described sounds more like something Louis CK did.

by Anonymousreply 28311/30/2017

A friend used to work for Mick Jagger and said he was very nice and professional, more business-like than rockerish.

by Anonymousreply 28411/30/2017

George Clinton is kind, but for awhile he was big into smoking rock and would only get with people who could get him coke or crack, and would even ask drivers, staff, and fans he met to take him to a place he could score coke or crack, or if they had coke/crack.

by Anonymousreply 28511/30/2017

I should also add that Jagger's children all seem to have turned out to be well-adjusted, even if he is a tom cat.

by Anonymousreply 28611/30/2017

R286 think that was down to their mothers, and Jerry Hall in particular.

by Anonymousreply 28711/30/2017

Eh, R286, for all of Jagger's romances, his kids seem genuinely devoted to him. But I'm sure having well-adjusted mothers didn't hurt. Hall seems like a well-meaning broad.

by Anonymousreply 28811/30/2017

Henry Rollins is straight? I remember the rumors were so rampant at one point that he actually addressed them by publishing a crude and clinical article about how to make love to a woman. I wish I could find it. Rollins spends a lot of time publicly supporting gay rights so I admire him for that no matter what he's into.

by Anonymousreply 28911/30/2017

Worst musician I've heard about is Prince. Not to talk ill of the deceased but I'm gonna...

When flying in, he wouldn't tell the transportation company which airport he was flying into (big city-2 airports) so they driver just had to keep driving around. Then threw a hissy fit that it was a smaller vehicle (SUV) and wanted a large tourbus- mind you this is just an airport pickup. During sound check, fired his guitarist, rehired him and then fired him again (was told to stay because who else is going to fill in at the 11th hour?). Oh and the worst part was that after the show was onsale, venue was told that the "symbol" (stage) couldn't face west so venue had to put up new section signs to basically reconfigure the arena. And a coworker was shoved in a closet by security when Prince was approaching. After show party at a bar in the city supposed to start around 1130 and he showed up about 2am. So we had many complaints about that for the show the next day and had to accommodate these people with new tickets. Worst fucking show I ever worked- from the crowd to his diva antics. Small man, literally and figuratively.

Rest in Peace, Prince(ss).

[quote]Well I'm not a woman [R282], and did that woman go to the police or file a police report about being sexually assaulted? What you described sounds more like something Louis CK did.

This was something I read online years ago, it could have been at the old Groupie Central website, which nutcase groupie Bebe Buell helped destroy. I have no idea if the woman filed a police report. Situations like this can get twisted, especially if she was a groupie, even people law enforcement assume groupies are game for anything. Real life is usually not a case of "Law & Order: SVU", most cops and detectives do not go the extra mile to really help crime victims, especially as Olivia Benson does!

I find all the positive stories about Henry Rollins odd, especially as most musicians are egotistical assholes. You've got to have a huge ego to get up on that stage, very few performers are ego-free. Don't assume punk rockers are any different than other types of musicians.

by Anonymousreply 29111/30/2017

I'll chime in with the positive Henry Rollins stories. Worked with him on a film for a day about 6 years ago. Was friendly, professional, enthusiastic, no ego, took direction well and it was an all around lovely experience.

by Anonymousreply 29211/30/2017

R277 did your friend wait on Mr. Stewart in a restaurant or a pub/club? I’m sure you know but for those who don’t: it isn’t common practice to tip barstaff in the U.K. except perhaps in swanky London bars.

by Anonymousreply 29311/30/2017

It may have been Usenet, R291, because I remember the story too. I was friends with a guy on Usenet who had gone to high school with Rollins (he had the signed yearbook to prove it so he wasn't lying) and he was LIVID about that story. But then he'd tell me stories about hanging out with Rollins which were supposed to impress me but just made Rollins sound like a fucking asshole -- punching people in the shoulder really hard "just for fun," stealing food and weed when crashing at people's houses, and something about how he insisted a friend get a tattoo and he'd pay for it but then he didn't and the friend got beat up because he didn't have enough cash on him. Ugh, that was 20 years ago so I can't remember details, unfortunately.

by Anonymousreply 29411/30/2017

Second hand I've been told Rollins is now privately "bisexual" but had a hard time coming to terms with it because he was molested, and was told by a therapist the molestation screwed up his sexuality. I think he's gone public about the molestation.

The two times I met him, over 20 years ago, he was very porny flirtatious but clear it wasn't going anywhere. I'm a lot taller than he is and he made a point of saying how he outweighed me and I'd be easy to pin down (not that I'd have put up a fight). At the time I wondered if he was too drunk to fuck.

So still more questions than answers.

It's true he oozes masculinity. Even his heavy perspiration smell (it didn't fill the room, but it was noticeable when you're next to him) was pungent but sexual. And he's very touchy-feely for the ten minutes he sits right next to you. Then he moves along to someone else for another ten minutes. I remember noticing that he was nowhere near as physically affectionate with the many women in the room but I later heard he went home with one of them. This is more about the second time I met him.

I don't remember much about the first time. I was high on E and weed and booze, and blown away because he was talking to me, and he appeared to be sober, we briefly discussed Tanika Tikaram (sp) of all things.

by Anonymousreply 29511/30/2017

I always wondered why Dennis Cole's son lived with Henry. Didn't Henry have enough money to not need a roommate? Or were they lovers?

I remember the story about the robbery at their house (or it happened outside of their house) and Cole's son was killed. It must be awful to witness a close friend murdered right in front of you.

by Anonymousreply 29611/30/2017

I'd never heard the Joe Cole story. What an odd incident.

by Anonymousreply 29711/30/2017

Did Dave Matthews go through a bi phase earlier in his life?

by Anonymousreply 29811/30/2017

R290 Are you sure Prince wanted all of that, or was it more his handlers who wanted it and insisted upon it?

Mickey Hart of the dead is a huge diva, throws temper tantrums firing his drum techs, refusing to perform and go on stage right before the concert, and has serious rage issues. At a dead show I saw him throw a drumstick at a guest on stage, Matt Kelly who Bill Kreutzmann had beat up badly and got sued for a lot of money for. Hart is a shitty excuse for a drummer as well.

R298 you don't go through bisexual phases, did you go through a "gay phase"? Dave isn't bisexual it's just a rumor that's spread around online he's hetero.

My first job out of college was being a media escort and handling authors/artists on promotional tours.

I spent 5 days with Boy George while he was on a media tour for his book. (This was a period where he was sober and partnered.) He was this tall, hulking Irishman. He was a perfect gentleman. Really funny. Great with fans at book signings. He and his tour companion, the make-up artist Paul Starr, just hung out with my boyfriend and I wanting fo her a sense of what our life was like. Genuinely engaged. We ended up seeing the film Too Die For when it was opened, we had to crane our necks from the front row. Didn’t seem to mind at all. He was very reserved and quiet when he was out of face. It made the stories that came out later even sadder.

I joined a group of friends at a dive bar for drinks one night in the 1990s and Elliott Smith was among them. Ended up at the seat next to him. He was kind, sweet and engaged.

Krist Novoselic from Nirvana is a great human. The survivoring members of Nirvana both despise Courtney Love and seem to see her as responsible for Kurt Cobain’s death.

About 10 years ago, I was standing in line to get drinks at a party. A voice from behind mumbled, “Do you think this line is moving?” I said, yup and turned around a minute later to realize it was Stipe. We chatted about nothing in particular for a while, he seemed like a decent fellow. Accessible, low key, just one more person at a great party.

Despite his various issues I've heard and experienced this too. My company did an instore for him during his Take It Like A Man book tour, too. I was away and didn't meet him but everyone raved about the experience.

I have friends who saw him on a solo tour and talked to him after the show. A few years later, they went to another show, and waited to talk to him again. He walked over to them and said, hey, I know you two, you were at such and such show. He didn't, like, remember their names, but he knew them, gave them a hug and said, Thanks for your support.

Sad that he's lost the plot a few times. I think he's a very smart and soulful person with brilliant taste, but sometimes he is truly his own worst enemy.

An old friend of mine -- male -- slept with Dave Matthews, so he has dabbled with men before. My friend was in his early 20's and breathtakingly handsome. He said that Matthews had some weird sock fetish, but I've forgotten the details. Maybe they were all lined up by color ? or he had a lot? I don't remember the details, just something about socks. I did not ask him details about the encounter, because I felt like he thought he said too much to even say that they slept together, so I didn't push him on the specifics. That was the first I had heard that Matthews played with men.

by Anonymousreply 31011/30/2017

The rumor is, Jackson Browne wrote "These Days" specifically for Nico. Nico recorded the song way before Jackson did. Jackson played guitar on Nico's version.

Jackson was only 16 when he wrote the song! It's on Nico's "Chelsea Girl" LP which was released in 1967. Jackson recorded his own version of the song in 1973 and even Glen Campbell did a version, in 2008.

"These Days" has also been recorded by Paul Westerberg, Gregg Allman, St. Vincent, Fountains of Wayne, and Drake! Yes, that DRAKE!

by Anonymousreply 31111/30/2017

Jackson Browne and Nico actually had an affair when he 17. She liked 'em young. She recorded a couple other early Browne songs on 'Chelsea Girl' as's a really lovely album.

IIRC, Stevie Winwood was addicted to heroin around the same time Eric Clapton was. I think they both started shooting up when they were in Blind Faith, that's why the band split.

Stevie was only about 15-16 when he was in the Spencer Davis Group and had a huge hit with "Gimme Some Lovin". Stevie formed Traffic in 1967. There were two early deaths in Traffic, Chris Wood died at 39 and Jim Capaldi died at 60.

Traffic singer/songwriter/guitarist Dave Mason is still around, he moved to California many years ago, not sure where he now resides. Dave was briefly in Fleetwood Mac, in 1985. Dave is 71 and Winwood is 69. Stevie is now married to an American woman from Tennessee, where he has a second home. They have four children. His eldest daughter Lily is a singer and she's worked with Stevie. They performed a duet of his song "Higher Love" in a Hershey commercial.

I think it is safe to say that in order to be a rock musician, you pretty much have to be as jerk to start with. None of these people would be a pleasure to hang around with or be friends with (ditto for celebrities in general).

by Anonymousreply 32611/30/2017

R319 Clapton has been sober/clean for decades apparently. If Sheryl Crow used heroin, that was by her own choice, or did she try to claim she was inspired to use dope/H because of Clapton using it?

I heard a rumor and read in a book about bisexuality that Clapton is bisexual and had sex with Mick Jagger.

Do you have the link to that thread R325?

I don't think that's true at all. Of course, there are plenty of rock star jerks, but I don't think "you pretty much have to be a jerk to start with."

by Anonymousreply 33011/30/2017

[quote]I heard a rumor and read in a book about bisexuality that Clapton is bisexual and had sex with Mick Jagger.

Most of these rockers from the 60s and 70s shared the same girlfriends, it was all quite odd. This was discussed at DL awhile back.

Most of the women were supposedly models and/or actresses, these women hopped from people like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Hendrix, Clapton, Jimmy Page etc. Jimmy Page's longtime live-in girlfriend, Charlotte Martin, was a French model who went from Clapton, to George Harrison to Page. Sounds like musical beds! I have to wonder why their circle of available women was so small.

Mick Fleetwood, from Fleetwood Mac was married to Pattie Boyd's sister Jenny, who dated, well, everyone! She was Fleetwodd's first wife. Jenny also married King Crimson drummer Ian Wallace, he died at 60 of esophageal cancer.

Some straight guys in the 70s actually tried to be bisexual.

Harry Reems said something to that effect. He admitted to it, said it was pleasurable, but he had to try too hard. He might have named names about other straight celebrities, Roger Moore seems to ring a bell but I could be wrong. He also said something about being invited to a few Hollywood bisexual swinger parties because all the scared guys wanted him there, they'd seen him in Deep Throat and somehow felt more comfortable with him fucking them, maybe his sense of humor.

Christopher George was a 70s actor who died of a heart condition in his 40s, or so they said. Other sources say he was a serious bisexual swinger who did too much poppers while fucking the actor who played Lionel on All in the Family.

by Anonymousreply 33611/30/2017

R333, it might be one of the old groupie threads, maybe about Pamela Des Barres or Bebe Buell. I can't remember. I do remember there were a lot of trolls coming in to complain about "40+ year old gossip". There is always the option for the reality show viewers to skip rockstar threads!

I recall the thread kind of evolved, much like this one, this thread has changed into discussions of rockstars personal lives. That's how that old thread evolved into the discussion of the rockers girlfriends and wives. I found it so odd that the same group of women ended up dating and marrying a very specific group of rockers, who all knew each other.

There was even a discussion about George Harrison having an affair with Charlotte Martin when she moved in with him and Pattie Boyd. Charlotte had just split with Clapton, she hadn't yet hooked up with Jimmy Page. Charlotte is the mother of Page's oldest daughter, Scarlet, she's a photographer.

by Anonymousreply 33711/30/2017

Yes it is very odd R337, also what's even more odd is that the wives of the musicians all knew that their husbands were cheating and hooking up with their friends' wives, and random women who they met while touring.

Lennon's whole "lost weekend" when he had sex and used lots of drugs with Yoko's assistant May Pang was fully known and advocated by Yoko.

I guess they all got used to the whole lifestyle of being a well known rock star's wife and cared more about money, status/fame, etc. and keeping that.

by Anonymousreply 33811/30/2017

Bob Dylan was an unwashed crotch of a human being for decades. DECADES. Treated the women in his life like utter garbage and mocked the people / fans for fawning over him...but then again, maybe he should have. So many sycophants treating this middle-class Jewish kid from Minnesota as though he were the next Lao Tzu; meanwhile, he knew he was a fraud and a poseur.

by Anonymousreply 34511/30/2017

When Yoko sent John off to California with Pang, she was having an affair of her own. John was still John Lennon, but he wasn't making albums. He indulged in drugs and drinking. Over time, he decided to start making music again. It seemed that he was trying to get his life back together. When Yoko caught wind of that she beckoned John back to New York. He did go back with May. He eventually ended up leaving May to go back to Yoko.

He could be just as much of a bastard to Yoko as he was to Cynthia. John and Yoko had friend's over, just a small gathering. He took an unattractive woman back to their bedroom, and proceeded to have very loud sex with her as the small get together continued, everyone trying to ignore what was quiet obvious. Even May Pang wasn't safe from his cruelty. He had a violent outburst when they were in LA. He was black out drunk and in a rage. He started to choke May, and Harry Nilsson of all people had to pry John off of May.

by Anonymousreply 34611/30/2017

May Pang married Bowie's main producer Tony Visconti.

"After divorcing his first wife Siegrid, Visconti married the Welsh folk singer Mary Hopkin in 1971 before divorcing in 1981. The pair have two children, musicians Jessica Lee Morgan and Morgan Visconti. He married for a third time, in 1989, to May Pang, with whom he had two children before divorcing in 2000."

by Anonymousreply 34711/30/2017

R343 that's some seriously good gossip. I remember Christopher George. He was in Playgirl. Kind of fulfilled the "English Professor" fantasy I had for older men at the time.

by Anonymousreply 34811/30/2017

Yoko wrote “Death of Samantha” about the party incident. It’s pretty good. He played on it. It was an election night party in 1972, and it sounds like their marriage was never really the same after that.

by Anonymousreply 34911/30/2017

Isn't Yoko the one who got John hooked on heroin after the whole India fiasco where he called out the Maharishi for being a fraud. I read a book by her pusher who said she had a separate apartment in the Dakota where he would drop off the goods. Yoko Ono was the ultimate manipulative wicked stepmother.

Lennon also allegedly was the one who kicked the shit out of his boyfriend Stu Sutcliffe and was generally thought to be responsible for Sutcliffe's early death. Instant Karma's gonna get you.

Web site discussing Lennon's sexuality:

by Anonymousreply 35011/30/2017

Christopher George was of GREEK extraction.

I've worked with Greek guys as a waiter (none as good looking as Christopher George) and they're always grabbing butts and crotches. They have to know who has the biggest cock in the room. Big balls count too.

by Anonymousreply 35111/30/2017

Yoko Ono was frantic about John because a psychic told her he would be dead by 40. A guy who works as a psychic in New York told her he wouldn't die before age 40 and she was relieved. (He died two months after his 40th birthday.)

by Anonymousreply 35211/30/2017

by Anonymousreply 35311/30/2017

John Lennon was such an asshole. Paul seem like a douhe, too. One of the reasons I can't bring myself to fully love the Beatles catalogue. The two of them really turn me off. John, especially. He was a real narcissistic, needy, selfish pig. Nice to see Julian turned out okay.

by Anonymousreply 35411/30/2017

R354 You forgot "minimally talented spoiled brat" (tip of the hat to Scott Rudin). John was unmitigated shit as a human, a songwriter, a partner, a father. George was the unsung hero of The Beatles; his solo output reflects that. After the band broke up, Paul wrote embarrassing crap and John wrote amateurish nonsense. The treacly nonsense known as "Imagine" completely contradicts the lifestyle he led, full of Rolls-Royces, fur coats, and specially-designed rooms with controlled temperatures to store those furs. Smack addict. Sadist. Unrepentant woman beater. Complete and total cockwomble.

by Anonymousreply 35511/30/2017

You wish your craps were as embarrassing as Paul McCartney's, R355.

by Anonymousreply 35611/30/2017

After they broke up, Paul was always good for at least a couple of songs on every album, although after the first one his lyrics were often compromised by his being super baked all the time. Why is he talking about salamanders in this song? Is this just a list of his extended family members? Please stop saying “Soily.”

He has written at least one great song in the last 20 years that I know of, which was “From a Lover to a Friend” after Linda died. I’m not sure what’s happening in the lyrics there either.

A few weeks later Culture Club started getting a lot of attention and the rest is history.

Good to hear he is still a diamond.

Two friends came across Bowie and ziggurat late at night on a street in Mayfair. Ended up drinking with them until the early hours. Good people apparently.

Another friend was in the VIP section of a club back in the 80s. Billy Idol was with two women and signalled for my mate to join them. He then asked my mate if he wanted to go back somewhere with them. Idol’s hand strayed from one of the women to my mate’s bum. Mate is not homophobic but is entirely straight and told Idol. Idol just smirked and said “ Why don’t we just see where it goes.”

Ziggurat? That’s Iggy!

Fuck you Apple.

Paul was a douche. But, in his 'defense' if I were that beautiful up until my early 30s in arguably the biggest band of the 1960s I'd probably be a bit of a douche as well. Ha. I've always viewed Paul's douchecaneo behavior as enjoying sleeping around. He seems to have settled down with old age. I still believe that he is a pothead despite his claims otherwise after the birth of his daughter, Beatrice. Smart thinking on his part, one less thing for Heather Mills to try and use against him. She accused him of beating her. Which I tend to not believe.

I have to sort of give it to Paul. He was the only Beatle to 'defy' John and see Cynthia after the Lennon's separated and John went public with his relationship with Yoko. John made it clear that they were all to cut Cynthia out of their lives in the same manner he had with her. Paul went to go see her and Julian and on the way there came up with what would become 'Hey, Jude'. They commiserated over their break ups. Jane had left Paul after catching him in bed with another woman. Their on and off relationship finally ending after five years.

Mick Fleetwood, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham all very nice. Stevie has the ego and is hit or miss. Still love her.

Bette Midler is charming and lovely.

Donna Summer — met her 1996 at the bar in Elaine’s 1:30am. There were 8 people total in the restaurant at that hour. I was drunk and having fun, then suddenly looked up and I was face to face with this tall, gorgeous woman (her hair was long and straight and she was stunning). When I realized who it was, I SCREAMED her name, basically in her face. I’ve loved her music so much and just freaked out. She was incredibly sweet - she stopped and talked with me, her entourage waiting patiently behind her.

I’ve met many famous people but I must say meeting Donna Summer was a total thrill. Very kind, beautiful and gracious woman.

There is a story in John Phillips' very...vivid and odd...1980s memoir about Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall coming to Long Island for a visit. Things declined rapidly as Phillips was a raging mess and Genevieve Waite stole Hall's jewelry. Hall and Jagger ended up pulling his two young children out of the home and hiding them from the duo because they were too drugged/drunk to even function. Phillips charged over to where Jagger was staying and screamed that he wanted his kids back. Jagger refused. When this didn't work, Phillips went home and tried to burn down his house in anger. I think Jagger needs to keep it in his pants, but this did at least show that he had some sort of sense of right and wrong...In other news, the Phillips bio is absolutely insane and good for dishy rock stories.

by Anonymousreply 37612/01/2017

I think a lot of male rock stars have assaulted women and gotten a pass for it. I'm sure we'll see and hear some of this in the months and years to come.

We've heard about Clapton, Henley etc in various threads. I know Paul Weller, pretty much the king of UK rock, was accused back in the 90s, as was Mick Hucknall of Simply Red.

The same thing happened to me with Bette Midler at a buffet table. She asked me "Is this stuff any good?" I realized who she was, muttered something like "I think so" and then kind of exited stage left. Just left her standing there. Very embarrassing.

The WIKI link about the many musicians who recorded the song "These Days" went directly to rapper/actor Drake's WIKI page! looool Guess he didn't record it. It would be funny if Drake the rapper did a version of the song.

by Anonymousreply 38612/01/2017

Re "These Days." I read an interview with Jackson Browne in which he said he had long forgotten about the song, and was reminded of it when Greg Allman recorded it on one of his albums. Jackson learnt the song form the Allman cd, and recorded it for a subsequent cd of his own. I can believe that he had forgotten the song, especially considering he was so young when he wrote it. I've never heard the original Nico version; I wonder how far it deviates from the version Jackson recorded himself.

R243. I heard the same exact thing about Whitney. My friend said she would walk in at very odd hours during her night shift, in a fur coat, reeking of cigarettes but would start with small talk with anyone from my friend behind the register or it could’ve been the cleaner mopping the floor. Before long you’d hear her very loud, distinctive, cackling laughter as Whitney chatted with a bunch of strangers as if they were old friends. She once told my friend that she was a true night owl and does most of her sleeping during the day.

Freddie Mercury was a real asshole, he was the Bryan Singer of his day. A lot of up and comers had sex with Freddie in the hopes he'd help their career. He was also really debauched and hedonistic, even once having sex with a 14 year old boy at a party in his apartment in Berlin.

I once knew somebody in the very tiny Beatles inner circle. They told me tons of stories, wish I could remember more. Some of my favourites: during the 65 US tour (think it was in Texas), Lennon fucked two 14 year old twins at the same time. The parents were supposedly outraged and shook down Epstein for, get this, $2K.

Also, from Hamburg till he got married to Linda, McCartney knocked up tons of women, most (but not all) ended in abortions. He and Linda would occasionally share a woman in their bed. They both liked black girls.

George was the resident sex maniac though. Slept with hundreds/thousands.

Nothing on Ringo.

by Anonymousreply 40912/01/2017

Ringo's my favorite of the four. Best sense of humor. Still plays in relatively small venues. None of the Beatles were great singers, but Ringo was arguably the best singer among the four. At least the best sounding one, to my ears. Ringo and Barbara Bach have been married for 35 years.

by Anonymousreply 41012/01/2017

I used to be part of a college Amnesty International group from '87-'89. When U2 came to town there was a rumor that Bono had hooked up with a girl from our school's group and one from another nearby. I figured it was wishful thinking until I went to a nationwide conference. A lot of females had the same story. We had something of an "in" to shows, being part of Amnesty. So he'd pick a girl for the night, act like she was getting special treatment by riding to a show/event/whatever with him, then make his move in the limo. Always and only in the limo.

by Anonymousreply 41112/01/2017

r399 I also read once that he was about as kind to his SOs as Lennon, but I don't have any stories to back that up.

by Anonymousreply 41212/02/2017

Paul and Linda sharing women is interesting. What makes it interesting is that they both had a penchant for black women.

About Ringo, the only thing I can add is that when the Beatles toured in the early 60s with Little Richard. This was during Little Richard's 'I'm a Christian and refuse to play my rock n' roll tunes', Little Richard's young lover Billy Preston was also on the tour. Heck of a piano player that guy. Little Richard had a thing for Ringo, unbeknownst to Ringo when he was invited back to one of his musical idol's hotel rooms. He tried to put the moves on Ringo, but he rebuffed Little Richard's advances. I always get a tickle out of that story. Yes, I know sexual assault isn't funny, but the visual of short statured Ringo Starr having rebuff an amorous and fey Little Richard is funny to me.

His long running marriage to Barbara Bach went through it's fair share of rough patches. One major incident that was the catalyst for checking himself into rehab and getting sober is one of his blackouts. He got so drunk that the next day when he sobered up he was horrified to discover just how badly he'd beaten Barbara Bach that he knew he needed to get help. It does make me wonder if he ever laid a hand on his first wife, Maureen. He grew up in a home of functioning alcoholics. When he made it big the first proper home he bought with his Beatles money out in Surrey, Ringo had a bar constructed in the home, which he named, I believe 'The Flying Cow'.

Epstein would've done anything for the Beatles. He would pay off girls to have abortions or to have them go away and name one of the Beatles as the father of their baby. He was a shitty manager in regards to business/financial affairs and left a mess behind after his death.

by Anonymousreply 41312/02/2017

I always thought of Epstein as the only thing holding the Beatles together, since everything seemed to go to hell the moment he died.

In any case, I want to hear more dirt about Freddie Mercury. Dish, please.

Worked for Madonna during her Drowned World tour. I actually wasn't a big fan/stan (at the time, was much more into stuff like Interpol, Low...the last days of decent indie rock, in my opinion) and the pay was nice, so it wasn't a life-changer. I didn't interact with M too much, but the fleeting few times that I did, she was curt, impatient, snappy, brash, and seemed overall very stern and harsh. I know this may not sound like a big surprise, but what got me is that she came across as an inherently VERY unhappy woman--like she had gotten herself into this overwhelming mess of a superstardom career, had no way out, knew her obligations and promises, and got more than she bargained for. It seemed a real burden for her. She was always a real professional and gave the audiences exactly what they came for, but backstage, just a miserable woman who was over it but had virtually no other options. She likely would have wanted to just be with her husband and kids at the time, but even I was hearing murmurs that their marriage was dysfunctional.

Luckily, I didn't care much and did my job. Just found it interesting that such a supremely famous, wealthy, adored woman could be so entrenched in unhappiness and could lack such grace towards a gigantic crew making all of this happen for her.

Anyway. I miss Whitney.

Yes, Jane has dabbled in BDSM.

She's also been selling everything she owns. She seems to be having money issues, which is probably why those old cunts tried to reduce someone's take from 20 percent to 2 percent. They tried it on Gina first and then on Kathy.

by Anonymousreply 42112/02/2017

How much residuals could the Go Go's be getting from their music today? Not much I would imagine.

by Anonymousreply 42212/02/2017

You'd be surprised. They still get a fair amount.

by Anonymousreply 42312/02/2017

I think they wrote their own songs, and that makes a big difference. Or, one or two of them did. Wiedlin and Caffey?

by Anonymousreply 42412/02/2017

R410 Ringo Starr was the best singer among the Beatles??!! Ye gods, you must truly be tone deaf. Everybody considered it a minor miracle when he started having solo hit singles after the Beatles broke up. I like him but he sings in a monotone, uninspired manner. A great singer he's not, scarcely even a good one.

by Anonymousreply 42512/02/2017

Interesting take r416. The Drowned World Tour is a downer. She seemed very angry with the world at the time and it was a very cold show. Which is odd since she just got married and gave birth to Rocco a year prior. You're probably right - she wanted to be with her family.

Cynthia was on Howard Stern and said John hit her only once and was very sorry about it, but I don't know if she was just being the classy woman that she was in saying that. I remember reading once an account about a gf of John's before they were famous who, after John said something nasty to her, responded that it wasn't her fault his mother was dead. He got silent and never said a nasty thing to her again.

r209: Details about Morrissey's asshole-ness, please.

I can see why Lennon would've wanted to screw Sutcliffe. If he'd lived, he definitely would have been the cute one.

by Anonymousreply 43012/02/2017

Stu Sutcliffe on the beach. Weedy little git.

by Anonymousreply 43112/02/2017

There are different stories regarding Stuart Sutcliffe's death. The one his sister tells about Lennon being the one to kick him in the head during a fight. The other one being that after a show The Beatles were attacked by some jealous guys in the audience and in the scuffle he was kicked in the head. If people think John and Paul were infatuated with one another, they really should take a closer look at John and Stuart.

John really did looked up to Stuart and value his opinion, talent (painting), and style. Yet, at the same time he and the others, especially Paul really ripped into Stuart and took the mickey out of him. Stuart being the good natured fellow that he was didn't speak up to defend himself.

Stuart's association with Astrid and her friends and adopting their style with the long hair and bangs and moving away from the 50s look inspired the others to do the same.

Cynthia is another interesting character in the Beatles story. She never really gets her due. She wrote two auto-biographies about her life. The first one was a money grab that she was pressured into by her then husband to write. In it, she didn't mention John hitting her. He was still alive at this point when that book was written and released. The second auto-biography came much later in life, long after John's murder.

She spoke about him being possessive, jealous and demanding of her during their time in college. He dictated how she was to dress and style her hair. He also told her she was not allowed to smoke cigarettes. When she went out with him and his friends she was to be seen by not heard. She only mentioned as you noted in Howard Stern interview that John hit her once. He was apologetic about the violent outburst and never did it again. I think she might've been taking the high road and left out other incidents of physical and verbal abuse.

Another college girlfriend, Thelma Pickles before John started going out with Cynthia also stated that he was difficult to be with because he was an angry young man. She recalled one incident in which they were at a college party. He'd taken her off to another room, which was dark and where other couples were fooling around. He wanted to take it further, and when she rebuffed him he smacked her. She went onto say that she was relieved when the relationship with John ended.

R444 can confirm. I work with a Muslim woman who wears the chador. She also pings like hell. And she is petty and emotionally stunted.

by Anonymousreply 44512/03/2017

Not really a jerk, but I met Boy George at a club in NYC around the time of Taboo. He is of course an extremely witty Brit, so if you have a one-on-one convo with him, you better be able to keep up. I asked him how are you, and he shot back OLD! I was so jittery i had no comeback.

I saw Cyndi Lauper sing Amazing Grace a cappella at a small theatre on Bleecker Street. It was for a staged reading of a piece about prisoners who were wrongfully convicted. So the vibe was very VERY somber. She sang at the very end, there was no applause, and as everyone filed out, she was standing right by the exit door under a spotlight, looking up. No one said a word to her.

by Anonymousreply 44612/03/2017

Sean Lennon is a sweet, kind guy. i've seen him 5-6 times and he is always real good with the people. If my Dad was shot in the street I doubt I'd be so kind to strangers.

McCartney's son James is a slob and snob, both. Dhani Harrison is similar, shitty music and stuck up toward the people at his shows.

by Anonymousreply 44712/03/2017

R438 .. Waaaaaaaait a minute! THAT is the same Jane Wiedlin who sang "Rush Hour"? Most of these names are not unsuprisiing, but some actually are!

by Anonymousreply 44812/03/2017

Any information on Julian. I've heard that he is a genuinely nice guy. Cynthia did an excellent job raising him. He turned into a fine young man.

Not surprised about James. For someone whose father was such a babe, James is such a fun house parody of his father. He has emotional issues/depression. Which may account somewhat for his shitty behavior. He was the most effected out of Paul and Linda's children after her death.

Sort of surprised about Dhani though. I wouldn't have thought that he'd been stuck up. If you're going to go into music he should take into consideration that their is a curiosity factor of fan's of your father and his music turning up. Sure, that can be annoying, but suck it up. You're the one that decided to make a go out of music.

Sean also seems like he'd be a pretentious cunt. However, I've had a couple of conversations with him through private messages on Tumblr. Not sure if he still uses that anymore because I don't. Also, a few public back and forth over twitter. He comes across as a guy with a sense of humor that's open to engaging people, at least through his social media.

Many years ago I did a stint with Gods Love We Deliver. I was on an elevator going down in one of those buildings in that housing project (it's actually very middle class) in Chelsea. The doors open, a woman backs in, holds the door, the woman she had visited was still talking to her and wouldn't shut up. The woman holding the door turned to me and said, "sorry!" It was Deborah Harry. When she got on and the doors closed she said something very nice about the woman, which I don't remember. Deborah seemed like a very normal, kind person.

by Anonymousreply 45012/03/2017

R442 same. Copeland is one of the few men this les would ‘go straight for’, even now he’s in his 60s. The draw for me is that he is so eloquent and clearly cerebral as well as talented, slender & quite good-looking. He’s had that fascinating life too, as another poster mentioned, so one can only imagine that he’s sexually worldly, thoughtful and interesting in bed. I hope he’s not a dick, it would be a letdown to find out he’s not as fun or decent as I think he is.

by Anonymousreply 45112/03/2017

[quote]Any more gossip on sting or the police members - Andy summers and Stewart Copeland?

Nothing truly scandalous, the usual assholery which happens when a band goes from struggling to superstars in the matter of literal months. It involves lots of cheating on their wives and drugs, particularly cocaine.

I remember first seeing them at CBGB's, then the Bottom Line and Diplomat Hotel, literally a few months later, they sold out Madison Square Garden and did a secret gig at The Ritz (Webster Hall) under the name Three Blond Men or something..

Sting left his first wife Frances, mother of his two eldest children, for the much hated Trudie Styler. Trudie was his first wife's former best friend. They were in The Royal Shakespeare Company together. Trudie even went as far as moving next door to Sting and Frances in London! This is all old news to Sting fans.

Stewart Copeland was romantically involved with prog rockers Curved Air vocalist Sonja Kristina beginning in 1974, they were married from 1982 to 1991. Copeland was the Curved Air drummer. Copeland adopted Kristina's son Sven from a prior relationship, and they had two more sons together, Jordan and Scott.

In 1981, Copeland fathered a son, Patrick, with Marina Guinness, daughter of Irish author Desmond Guinness. Copeland currently lives in Los Angeles with his second wife, Fiona Dent, with whom he has three daughters (Eve, Grace and Celeste). Last year, I saw Stewart on a episode of Salvage Dawgs! He was selling his drums. It seemed kind of weird.

Andy Summers had a tumultuous relationship with his second wife, they divorced then ended up remarrying. Her name is Kate Lunken, they married in 1973 , had one daughter in 1978, Layla Zoe Summers, an actress. They divorced in 1981, remarried in 1985. In 1987, Kate and Andy's twin sons Maurice X and Anton Y were born.

Andy's first wife was Robin Lane, a singer songwriter, who had some success isn the late 1970s with her band The Chartbusters. Robin the was the daughter of Ken Lane, songwriter and pianist for Dean Martin! From 1968 to 1970, she was married to Andy.

Andy is a bit older than the rest of the Police, though he still looked quite young when the band formed. Andy is now 74! Andy currently resides in the Los Angeles

To me, the nicest of the Copeland brothers, was the late Ian Copeland. I worked in the music biz, Ian was always decent, funny and cordial, even to fans. At one point, after his divorce, he dated Marianne Faithfull as well as Courtney Cox! Ian dated actress Courtney while she was working for his company Frontier Booking International as a receptionist. Ian died of melanoma at age 57.

Police manager Miles Copeland was an asshole as well as Sting's bitter former manager Kathryn Schenker, what a nasty POS. I don't know who this bitch thought she was, but she was nasty to everyone. She was always in attack mode. She looked like a Rottweiler, if the shoe fits.

In fact, there's an encounter, on film, between her and Sting about the clothes his backup singers should wear during The Dream of the Blue Turtles tour. There is bit of the argument in the documentary of the tour, but most of it was cut out. Man, was that woman a nasty sour bitch. IIRC, Fiona Apple used to be her kid's babysitter!

by Anonymousreply 45412/03/2017

The best story I ever heard about Copeland was that he used to play drums with his cymbals positioned almost vertically so his view of Sting would be blocked; didn't want to even look at him.

The same person who told me this (he was in the music biz) also mentioned that he was in a corner store beneath a recording studio when one of the guys from A Flock of Seagulls came in, wearing sunglasses. The FOS guy pointed to a Twix bar and said to the clerk, in his thick British growl, "Give me one of those motherfuckers." This story had me howling for months, for some reason.

by Anonymousreply 45512/03/2017

R454, I knew Kathy Schenker! I interned at her company while in college. yes. she liked to scream a lot, i though she was going through menopause at the time or something, her moods were nuts. but overall, very nice to me. And Fiona Apple was the best friend of her babysitter and that's how she got discovered. Fiona Apple was also very difficult, always late to everything, a lot of problems. I think she was raped growing up or something...don't remember, been so long.

Kathy was PR for many, many top music artists at the time. Her firm repped Janet Jackson, Melissa Etheridge, Tina Turner, Bob Dylan, the list is very long.

wow, so kathy is no longer working with sting? they worked together for a long time!

by Anonymousreply 45612/03/2017

R455, he had fuck sting written on his drums, visible in some footage lol.

by Anonymousreply 45712/03/2017

[quote] Fiona Apple was also very difficult, always late to everything, a lot of problems. I think she was raped growing up or something...don't remember, been so long.

I love her music but she seemed incoherent in many early interviews. And then saying shit like "When I hear Tori Amos I just think, piano and rape" did her no favors.

by Anonymousreply 45812/03/2017

Didn't Courtney Cox's mom marry into the Copeland clan?

by Anonymousreply 45912/03/2017

Any stories about the Schenker brothers?

by Anonymousreply 46012/03/2017

I've read countless times the Sting and Stewart Copeland couldn't stand each other, for various reasons. Andy Summers wasn't really involved in the rift and was more of a neutral observer who knew he had a good gig with the Police. For all the alleged tension and conflict, they managed to have a great career as a band. In fact, breaking up early only helps their legacy since they don't have a weak album among their five releases. They were smart enough to put their shit aside for their massively successful (third highest grossing) reunion tour in 2007-08; and were just as smart for not getting back together for good.

by Anonymousreply 46112/03/2017

Copeland was with the drug band Oysterhead, which really were not that good and had Trey Anastasio on guitar and Les Claypool on bass, and they all used way too many drugs together. There's a video of them at the Bonnaroo music festival and Trey and Les are on coke or dope, and Copeland is on Ecstasy.

by Anonymousreply 46212/03/2017

I don't know what Sting saw in Trudie Styler. She was certainly no raving beauty. In fact, her face is almost horse-like.

by Anonymousreply 46312/03/2017

Even when she was young, Trudie was pretty homely.

by Anonymousreply 46412/03/2017

When Trudie was starting out in London, she worked at a "gentleman's club." Read: She was a WHORE.

by Anonymousreply 46512/03/2017

In fairness r463 that picture shows her with a collapsed bridge after rhinoplasty. She should’ve kept her nose, it made her striking when she was younger.

by Anonymousreply 46612/03/2017

The StingTrudi daughter, Mickey has an awful nose. She should get a a small adjustment, but not the ridiculous tiny ski slope that ruined her mother’s face. (Scroll down to see Mickey in link).

Also, trudi’s multiple facelifts have made her generous mouth really weird and pulled upwards in a scary Joker leer.

by Anonymousreply 46712/03/2017

That explains it r465. She must give blow jobs that rival those of a gay man.

by Anonymousreply 46812/03/2017

great dish r454. I've been a music lover for years and didn't know that Andy was married to Robin Lane. She had a great one-hit song with When Things Go Wrong in the early 80s.

You forgot to mention that not only did Courteney Cox date Ian Copeland, he was her step cousin as his uncle had married her mother years earlier. It was this connection that brought her from AL to Hollywood after high school.

Heard interesting rumor: Sting and Trudie are now grandparents as their eldest girl had a baby recently (Sting of course already a grandfather by his older kids). There's worry from her west coast friends the guy she's with is tied to Scientology and has made plays to snag Mickey and the family.

by Anonymousreply 46912/03/2017

is it true Clapton is seriously ill and not long for this world? That's been the rumor.

Someone upthread said Roger Daltrey is a great guy without scandal. The first part is true, but he's one of the biggest womanizers when on tour and that's saying something given his peers. Was known to have his own suite of rooms on the '82 US tour where he'd party and screw groupies while his wife and kids slept next door. Very open marriage.

Bono also a dog, I had friends from school (late teens) who partied with U2 on tour in the late 80s, Bono was all over them. Ali also gets her kicks, loves the ladies, that's a longtime open marriage that's managed to work.

Steve Winwood and his family live mainly in the UK even though the wife is American, their oldest daughter married Prince Charles's nephew (Camilla's nephew Ben Eliot) so they're related to the Royal Fam which I find crazy.

by Anonymousreply 47012/03/2017

I never saw the appeal of Clapton, with that undershot chin.

by Anonymousreply 47112/03/2017

The Beatles were just very sexy and it could not be helped.

by Anonymousreply 47212/03/2017

Sting stays with Trudie because she's openly bisexual and loves threesomes. She baits women with the chance to sleep with Sting. He gets some strange. It works for them. She's really not attractive. A friend of mine (female) is a former model and Trudie hit on her. It was extremely skeevy. My friend send Trudie could rival any lounge lizard guy when she's on the hunt. My friend took a hard pass.

by Anonymousreply 47312/03/2017

oh please, sting isn't hung. he's probably only average at best. my friend saw it during a photo shoot, he loved showing it off too.

by Anonymousreply 47412/03/2017

I've heard about Trudie's bisexuality many years ago. A friend's close friend was a guest at Sting and Trudie's former CPW duplex apartment, at the time, the woman was dating Sting's guitarist Dominic Miller. On the way to the Grammy's they were all in one limo, Trudie started rubbing the woman's knee and trying to make her way up to the woman's crotch, Dom's GF wasn't interested. When Trudie didn't get what she wanted, she threw Dom and the GF out of their apartment. Trudie was so pissed off that she was being rejected. Trudie never mentioned to the GF that Sting was part of the deal. The GF wasn't bi and she sure wasn't interested in swinging. Dom ended up marrying someone else.

by Anonymousreply 47512/03/2017

Heard either Ali alone or both of them have been involved with model Helena Christensen for many years. Helena had a son with actor Norman Reedus.

by Anonymousreply 47812/03/2017

Trudie's face was mangled as a toddler, Google it. She was run over by a truck. Trudie sustained various plastic surgeries until she was 17-18.

Of course, she's had more work since then, her face lifts and other procedures actually make her look like she's in her 70s! There was nothing wrong with her nose, yet it looks as if she's had two nose jobs.

Trudie was very cute when she met Sting.

John’s mom married a merchant seaman when she was pretty young. He wasn’t around much, and they separated when John was 4. He didn’t come back again until John was famous. His mom took up with somebody, and according to John’s half-sister, their mom didn’t so much give him to the aunt as the aunt took him. He started seeing his mom a lot more when he was a teenager, and he was crazy about her, but when he was 17 or 18 she was hit and killed by a drunk driver (who was also a police officer).

by Anonymousreply 48312/03/2017

Trudie Styler comes from an extremely dysfunctional working class family. The poster who said she worked as a call girl nailed it. She somehow got involved in the art house scene and then became friends with Sting's first wife. I've heard that she lied about any qualifications that she had and was basically very uneducated grifter type when she hooked up with Sting. Think Yoko Ono in how she won Sting over, except she was more careful and weeded her way into the first wife's life before she made her move. Sting was probably bored with his first marriage anyway but she took advantage of the situation and made herself amenable to his every whim until they got married. After they were married she became more controlling but not stupid. She allows him to sleep around when he wants and he was even photographed coming out of a brothel in Germany one time. She is apparently ashamed of her roots and has nothing to do with her family up north, she also puts on a fake accent and has a back story about her work history and education. According to people who have worked for her she is completely delusional, and likes to pretend she's part of the upper crust horsey set. When she and Sting are at home she insists on having a full complement of butlers and maids, and when they have dinner they have to be served by a full complement of wait staff.

by Anonymousreply 48412/03/2017

Gene Simmons is the asshole, r132.

Besides being a conservative Republican who supported the Iraq war and ANY human rights violation Israel wants to commit, Paul Stanley and others have reported that he basically ditched the band in the '80s, didn't contribute to songwriting any longer so he could pursue acting and other commercial scams. But Simmons took songwriting credit, anyway, and wanted to be paid ever-higher sums for staying in KISS, even though he was absentee.

He also lied and backstabbed Paul ad the rest of the band repeatedly. Lied to the press a lot. Manipulative, arrogant pig.

Simmons also insists on sexual affairs outside his marriage, but forbids his wife from doing the same -- they went on a talk show to argue about it.

Read Paul Stanley's books about it:

by Anonymousreply 48512/03/2017

r222 is right about Gene Simmons but WRONG about KISS.

Their music is fun as fuck!

by Anonymousreply 48612/03/2017

I wouldn't say he was an asshole per se but Freddie Mercury became really debauched and hedonistic during his years in Berlin. He was rumoured to have had sex with really young guys, with one alleged to be only 14 years old.

by Anonymousreply 48712/03/2017

What was Mercury really like? It's hard to find out anything on what he really got up to since he died, as they kind of put him on a pedestal.

by Anonymousreply 48912/03/2017

by Anonymousreply 49012/04/2017

THX for the Sting & Trudie gossip R484. I heard a bit about Trudie's working class roots, she grew up without a toilet in her home, actually so did Bryan Ferry, like Sting, he was born in Newcastle.

Trudie must have had some acting ability, how the hell was she a member of The Royal Shakespeare Company, that's where she met Sting's first wife, Irish actress Frances Tomelty.

From the few early Police bios I read years ago, Sting never wanted to marry his first wife, she got pregnant with his eldest son, so he married her. Frances was also his ticket out of Newcastle. Sting met her when his band was hired for a play she appeared in which toured Newcastle. At that point, Frances was the more famous of the two, he headed straight to London with Frances.

by Anonymousreply 49112/04/2017

Never had any interest in Sting, the only thing I know about him is he has an interest in tantric sex. Surprised this has hijacked this thread.

by Anonymousreply 49212/04/2017

George Harrison was obsessed with Christina Applegate during the Married With Children Days. He told David Faustino his fantasy was to go down on her. Faustino took that news to the cast one day as they sat together on the set. They all laughed, except Applegate.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think she was still a teenager, and he was in his 50’s. Gross.

by Anonymousreply 49312/04/2017

[quote]When she and Sting are at home she insists on having a full complement of butlers and maids, and when they have dinner they have to be served by a full complement of wait staff.

I loved The Police and esp. Sting who seemed so sexy. And then I went to the movies and saw that vanity documentary on him and lost all interest. Don't recall the name of it. The one thing I do recall is Trudy in the background giving birth and the cameras doing a close-up on Sting who managed to produce a tear which rolled down his cheek, all the while with Trudy by herself in the background in agony, "in the background" being the operative phrase. I love a good looking man. But he was so stuck on himself that one documentary turned me off him forever.

by Anonymousreply 49412/04/2017

When mentioning a famous person who has grown up in poverty I prefer it when they own up to it and don't try to deny their roots. For instance, I remember watching a documentary on Merle Haggard, who grew up in abject poverty and talked honestly about it and how it made him who he was.

by Anonymousreply 49512/04/2017

George Harrison was a sex addict. And by the time he reached his fifties, he was no longer hot.

by Anonymousreply 49612/04/2017

That's a really good find! I'd never heard that story. George's libido didn't go down with age. He was a horny old guy.

He's in a book written by a call girl to the stars, which I can't remember the name. She said that she blew George Harrison and the entire time he played a ukulele. He didn't say anything to her the entire time. After he finished, he said 'Thanks, love.' and left.

Also, in the 60s George Harrison was obsessed with Bob Dylan. He even wrote a song about him 'I'd Have You Any Time.'

Even before the death of John's mother, he was still a little shit. Her death definitely added to it. However, after his Aunt Mimi essentially took him from his mother, he grew up pretty comfortable in a good neighborhood. A step up from the other Beatles. Paul and George lived in council housing. Ringo grew up in a slum called the Dingle. I'm convinced that John had some sort of mental health issue in his youth that became worse with fame and all its trappings.

by Anonymousreply 49712/04/2017

Why would he feel the need to tell Dave Faustino that? I never bought the ‘spiritual George’ bullshit, but yew. Don’t need to know about dead Beatle jack off fantasies either.

It’s going to be lots of fun in the near future when dead celeb porn most played lists are archived from their devices.

Who cares who YOU are interested in. ANY music gossip is great, more please! Especially about Sting & The Police.

Personally, Sting seems really jaded, he definitely has a block when it comes to writing new music. He should simply accept that fact, retire or move on to a different type of music, like Copeland has, Stu has written music for ballets and has also written TV and movie scores. Stu wrote "The Equalizer" theme!

That was the documentary I mentioned upthread, where Sting and ex manager Kathy had an argument over his female backup singers outfits, that part was severely edited for the film.

The documentary was called "Bring On the Night". Sting had an excellent group of musicians on that tour, all were established jazz musicians, including Branford Marsalis, who was living in Brooklyn at the time. Branford's first wife Theresa gave birth during the tour and Sting was pissed when Branford had to take few days off to visit her and their new baby.

I saw Sting three times during his Radio City Music Hall concerts during that tour. You might dislike Sting, but he always puts on a great show. The best Police concert I ever attended was at The Palladium, before the theater became an infamous disco. The band were still hungry and their music was excellent. Think there's a bootleg of the gig out there. It was broadcast live on WNEW-FM. It was one of the best concerts I'd ever attended in my life and I've been to hundreds of shows.

Sting is a phony too, but he has talent to back up his fake poseur facade. I don't care how phony people act, they need to stop treating their fans and others, like they're shit on their shoe. So many of the famous readily forget, if they didn't have fans, they wouldn't have their careers. Let alone, their millions.

I remember reading about the Queen coming to Newcastle, Sting was a child. He was standing outside waving, the Queen looked at him. Sting said he wanted to be like the Queen, getting all the adulation. Think this was in his autobiography.

No one should be surprised by the revelations of the famous, you need to have a tremendous ego to be in show business.

by Anonymousreply 53212/04/2017

Robert Plant comes across as a decent guy, however I've read numerous accounts of him being an entitled prick who's used to getting his ass kissed. I remember reading one story that while his wife was in hospital undergoing surgery he was out hitting the nightclubs and trying to pick up women.

by Anonymousreply 53312/04/2017

[quote] I remember reading one story that while his wife was in hospital undergoing surgery he was out hitting the nightclubs and trying to pick up women.

While Maureen was hospitalized after their auto accident with head trauma, Robert had a badly damaged Achilles and broken leg and was in a cast for months. He was pretty badly injured as well so both were hospitalized immediately after.

Once he was up and hobbling around though, Peter Grant and business managers whisked him out of the UK and back to the US to keep his 'tax exile' status intact. This while Maureen was still slowly recuperating and his kids as well. They allegedly holed him up in Malibu and also took him out clubbing on the Strip in LA for diversion as he was totally miserable. This is probably what you're referring to r533.

Their son Karec had that mysterious illness, which killed him, during the lest leg of one of Zep's US tours. Karec's death also sealed the death of Led Zeppelin. Well actually, Bonham's death was basically the final nail in their coffin. Sorry for the death jokes.

by Anonymousreply 53512/04/2017

R534: This happened after the accident, it was sometime in the late 1970s. His wife had to go into surgery over something and instead of being with her he was partying in a Manhattan nightclub.

Yoko Ono, the biggest poseur associated with the rock world. She was a celeb hanger-on and wannabe from way back. She'd deliberately get pregnant, then have abortions. She did give birth to Kyoko/Rosemary, but from infancy would abandon her, leaving her alone inside the apartment on the floor (covered with newspapers to soak up her feces/urine) of while Yoko was out trying to make celebrity connections.

When she decided to try to bag a Beatle, she wasn't choosy. She targeted Paul McCartney first. He wasn't interested and half-jokingly suggested she try John. She met John, saw her chance and seized it.

The reason the rest of the band hated her so much was because, once she'd hooked up with John, she decided her input on the Beatles' music was every bit as valid as theirs, even though she had no rock music background and no real history as a musical artist (goat yodeling doesn't count as music). So she'd arrogantly tell the most famous rock musicians in the world what they should be doing with their music.

The best thing that ever happened to Yoko was John's death. Finally, her whiny bastard of a husband and primary competition for the spotlight was gone. She was rich, famous, and free...and suddenly, instead of ridicule, she was revered as the Bereft Widow of the Great Man.

by Anonymousreply 53712/04/2017

R537. I don't know, man. You're walking on thin ice with that post.

by Anonymousreply 53812/04/2017

Yoko? Oh, no!

by Anonymousreply 53912/04/2017

If he would've lived and was still alive today I doubt he'd still be with Yoko. He'd probably be with some woman half his age with a couple of teenagers.

I'd have to argue that his death wasn't the best thing for Yoko. She probably hates having to play the grieving window honoring 'Saint John' 40 plus years on. Sure, it's a good gig, coasting on the good will afforded to you because of your husband's murder, but damn it must get old. Plus, she knows what a shit John was in his everyday life to life.

No one here has any stories on Elvis?

also, you want fucking nuts??? Check "Beware Mr. baker" on flix.....ginger was freaking OUT there.....

also, that long ass read on oral sex, uh, i mean axl rose sucked. there was nothing notorious about that fool

by Anonymousreply 54212/04/2017

Mentioned this before, but Axl would whale on Slash, kick his ass while he cowered, in public, daylight hours.

by Anonymousreply 54312/04/2017

Elvis was like Kim Jong Uno or some other person given too much too young - so they're emotionally retarded. (and he was no Einstein in the first place, but would have had more humility if he hadn't hit the big time just because he had a pretty voice and a pretty face and was lucky enough to be discovered by some Machiavellian characters who made him into an icon)

by Anonymousreply 54412/04/2017

Actually, Elvis was supposedly very humble according to those who met him. I have heard them say they would forget they were talking to one of the most influential people of the 20th century when with him. I am a little surprised that there are no 1st hand accounts here since this thread is so long and we have older posters.

by Anonymousreply 54512/04/2017

r536 I've followed Zep for yrs and never heard about that. Maureen has serious head trauma after the '75 accident and may have had to have other surgeries after. Robert had to spend a lot of time out of the UK for tax reasons back than and may have been away. But if you follow Zep you would knew that after their son died in '77 he barely left her sight, until the band ended in '82. He was home with her in the UK from '77 to '80 when they did the last Euro tour, and she was on the road w/him for that as was Charlotte Martin for many of the dates (from pap photos at the time).

From what Ive read/inferred, she may have even been with him in Windsor where they were rehearsing when Bonham died. Jason B. has said many times the call re his dad's death came from Maureen, 'who was there' when it happened.

I know Courtney Love is low-hanging fruit by this point (actually, always has been), but she isn't so much of a jerk as she is a very fucked-up, troubled woman who completely agreed to burlesque her "angry punk rock widow" persona for a public image and for publicity. She is what we used to call a poseur. Courtney always wanted to be famous and did what she had to do in order to latch onto those who were going somewhere. I'm going to spare you the story we all know about the Widow Cobain and the theories about having him killed; that's for many other threads. In the 90s, when she was having "the most cake," she amped up her persona because that is what she was paid to do, and what she was told to do, and she was ready and willing because it meant the spotlight, it meant notoriety, the likes of which she always wanted. Courtney actually wanted to be a famous actress before music came along (kind of like Madonna). Yet in order to deal with her innate trouble and the mess of fame she found her way into, she self-medicated so much that she ruined any chance of making something of herself; she never had the stuff. For moments here and there, yes, but she is so undersocialized and crass and mental that she could never have worked with the chances she was handed. Courtney is a very messed-up, coarse, uncouth, tragic person who is actually a gross version of modern-day reality stars. I honestly don't know how else to describe her.

by Anonymousreply 54712/04/2017

Ummm, not a "rock star" but my mom was a private duty nurse for Noel Coward when he was hospitalized in Chicago in the late 1950s. She was just out of nursing school and worked on the floor at Northwestern Hospital that got all the famous people. Said Coward was her favorite. He gave her a silk scarf and advice on men.

When I read his diaries, he mentioned her! Can't remember the direct quote, but he said she was very pretty. My mom dined out on that for years: "Noel Coward called me pretty!"

My mom said the doctors loved him, too. One doctor said Coward had no anal sphincter left. It had been destroyed through "overuse."

by Anonymousreply 54812/04/2017

R546: I'm sure he wasn't chained to her every single day, and, I seem to remember that Zep had an American tour just before they broke up. The information comes from one of the women he tried it on with when he was out on the prowl. His wife was in the hospital at the time, whether it was to do with ongoing medical problems from the crash or unrelated I'm not sure. Anyway, he was seen in this club partying up a storm.

Seal is a real prick, now I get why Heidi Klum divorced him.

You would think someone with a facial scar like his would be more humble and grateful.

Courtney Love beat me up once, in public. She later threatened to kill me, again in public.

I was too frightened of her to press charges or even fight back. She is one of the most frightening people I have EVER encountered in my life, and I have had to deal with some real psychos.

But what is so scary about Courtney is that she seems to have some ability to hone in on your thoughts, and will run a campaign against you for years and years.

Courtney Love is one of the most vindictive, dishonest, violent and scheming people I have ever had to pure displeasure of meeting.

by Anonymousreply 55312/04/2017

R541 I never met Elvis, but I went to school with one of Elvis' posse's children. Priscilla and Lisa Marie used to come to our school for special weekend events all the time. Priscilla was beautiful, but not as pretty as my mother who would outshine all the other mothers at our special school weekends.

by Anonymousreply 55412/04/2017

Everything was so nice before Courtney hit the scene--she really brought a negative vibe to many musicians' lives and dampened the fun and creativity of the club scene.

Courtney Love is just a bad person.

by Anonymousreply 55512/04/2017

I'm in radio and go to concerts a lot. I went to a Sting concert in the late 80's at the Forum in LA. After the show, I went backstage. Sting was leaning up against a wall. No one was talking to him. Just passing him by. I went up to him and talked to him for a few minutes and he signed my ticket stub. This was the time Sting was in all his arrogant Stingdom.

by Anonymousreply 55612/04/2017

I believe that there are hundreds of 'Courtney victims' out there who have kept quiet out of fear.

Many of us have been beaten up by her, threatened, abused and maligned. We have cowered in her wake, and have bent to her domination.

One day she will turn herself in or get arrested. That day will come. And those of us who have been victimized by her will feel better about things.

[quote] Jackie Fox of the Runaways claims that their manager raped her, with the support of JOAN JETT.

R508, to be fair Joan was a minor herself at the time, 16 or 17. I know we live in a world were past mistakes do come back to us, even the ones we make as teenagers. Yet Jackie would probably be in a better position herself if she let go and moved forward from that one.

Any Dave grohl gossip?

by Anonymousreply 55912/04/2017

I never met Walter, r529, but I can tell you that his sister Wendy and niece Danny (Danielle) are batshit crazy New Age nuts. At least they were when I knew them. They were customers at my friend's used book store in the Valley.

A bird flew in and built a nest in the fan above Danny's bed. It shit on her bed every day until the eggs hatched, then the babies chirped all the damn time and also shit on Danny and her bed.

Wendy got mad when I told her giant, untrained dog not to jump on me, and kicked a potential date out after he pushed her dog off of him. Danny is a talented musician (oboe) and a tolerable actress, but an incredibly manipulative brat, too. Both are sweet people, but very passive aggressive.

Wendy used to help sell tshirts at the SD reunion shows. If you went to any, you probably saw her- she's a tiny brunette who always looks startled. She always spoke highly of Walter, but made him sound autistic when she described his lack of common sense and inability to judge people's intentions.

by Anonymousreply 56012/04/2017

Oops, Danny plays the cello, not the oboe.

by Anonymousreply 56112/04/2017

The New Age types are at least not as prejudiced as evangelical Christians or radical Muslims.

by Anonymousreply 56212/04/2017

R529 it's not gossip but it's been well known for decades that they liked to have sex with underage teenage girls, and were big into coke and heroin in the 1970s and early 1980s.

by Anonymousreply 56312/04/2017

R553 who are you and why did Courtney Love threaten to beat you up in public?

I am surprised she's still alive.

by Anonymousreply 56412/04/2017

Here's what little I've seen living in LA for too many years:

Francis Bean Cobain was like a kid in "Family Ties". Wacky 'groovy' parents so had to act as the de facto parent most of her life (ex: at 12 y.o. putting her wasted mother to bed theb hiding her drugs, that sorta thing). Never had a childhood.

Bowie. Great guy. Almost too great whereas people (particularly those Tin Machine rubes) took advantage of his talents and good graces.

Elvis Costello: Nasty piece of work. Enjoys being unhappy. Patronizing and condescending to everyone around him and ten times worse towards the "little people" around him. Apparently a great record collection but an absolute shit human being.

Brian Setzer: Full of himself. Somebody please find a reason.

Eddie Vedder: Stuck in that tortured artist role after Cobain died but without the slightest fart of talent. Self-serious even when he's not being self-serious.

Glen Frey: Did MASSIVE amounts of drugs (mostly coke and weed) until the day he died.

Bangles: An eighth-grade clique that turned against each other. Hoffs looks down at the others as untalented, lucky yet ugly cows.

Squeeze: Glenn Tilbrook: Nicest, most genuine guy you ever want to meet. Chris Difford: Not Glenn Tilbrook.

by Anonymousreply 56512/04/2017

Hoffs was right! Hoff should have at least had some semi-success as a solo performer after the Bangles.

by Anonymousreply 56612/04/2017

Please write more about musicians R565. Which ones are bisexual or gay men but closeted?

by Anonymousreply 56712/04/2017

Zeppelin had their fave groupies in the US. They never had their US groupies fly back to the UK with them, at home the guys were with their wives and partners.

There were a few groupies who traveled with them, the much talked about underage LA groupie Lori Maddox and Texan Audrey Hamilton, who was actually married when Plant brought her on tour. She was very androgynous, to me she looked like a teenage boy. Audrey claimed to be in an "open marriage", her husband thought it was OK that she just up and toured with Zeppelin.

One of Zep's New York based groupies died of AIDs, it's a miracle no one in Zep ever got sick. From what I heard, they sure didn't use condoms.

Plant with Audrey, she was 20 when they met. She looked much younger.

by Anonymousreply 56812/04/2017

R568 which Led Zep groupie died from HIV/AIDS? I would NOT be surprised if any of the members of LZ are HIV+ or have Hep C as some of them injected drugs and probably shared needles.

by Anonymousreply 56912/04/2017

R568: She's not androgynous, she's very pretty going by that pic. More feminine than many of the groupies I've seen in snaps from those days. Many were really quite odd looking. I doubt they were the hottest girls in their school. She just doesn't have the implants and the seven tons of makeup and false eyebrow/eyelashes she would no doubt have if she made her Whores of IG debut today.

by Anonymousreply 57012/04/2017

Please post more about Lennon who sounds totally batshit crazy, and so is Yoko. R537 described her perfectly.

by Anonymousreply 57112/04/2017

R569, the groupie wasn't famous, she was actually a very good looking blond woman Plant used to hook up with in NYC, she was under the radar. She modeled for awhile. She actually had a job. If she 'toured' with Robert, it was only local, on the East Coast, just for a few days.

The only reason I knew about her, I knew a photographer who was close friends with her. I shouldn't have said she was a groupie, because she actually wasn't, she was basically Plant's East Coast hook-up for several years.

I think Page was the only Zep member injecting drugs, he was on heroin and coke for quite awhile, he was even injecting the coke.

John Paul Jones cheated on his wife like the rest of them, but it didn't appear he was as much into the drugs as the rest of them, that probably explains why he still looks pretty good, while Plant and Page look awful.

by Anonymousreply 57212/04/2017

[quote]She's not androgynous, she's very pretty going by that pic.

Maybe androgynous isn't quite the word, boyish? To me she looks like an attractive young teenage boy of that era who had long hair.

Audrey was very young looking, which I found creepy. Zep seemed to be attracted to underage groupies. Audrey was not the usual type of groupie Zep were attracted to, they were usually with groupies who looked like street hookers. They groupie were very young, but very garish and slutty looking. Page was well into his 30s when he was with Lori Maddox, who was supposedly 14 or 15. The tradition continues, he's 73 and his current GF is in her 20s.

That crazy blond LA groupie, the one who died of brain cancer, Sable Starr, was another of their faves, she was 14 when she started hanging out at Rodney's English Disco. Sable claimed to have fucked, Bowie, Jeff Beck, Jagger, Iggy Pop, Rod Stewart, Marc Bolan, Plant and Alice Cooper. She claimed to have lost her virginity at 12 with the late Spirit guaitist Randy California.

Sable came from a wealthy family, her parents basically threw money at her, they allowed her to tour with rockers. After Zep and everyone else she fucked while in LA, she ran away from home at 16, to NYC, to live with The NY Dolls late guitarist Johnny Thunders.

Sable then moved on to the punk rock scene, she spent a lot of time in NYC with The Dead Boys, Richard Hell and Nancy Spungen, Sable was a hot mess. By the early 1980s, she was no longer a groupie. Before her death at 51, she was a card dealer at a Nevada casino. Sable supposedly had two kids, I have no idea who the father was.

Sable, Johnny Thunders and Iggy Pop.

by Anonymousreply 57312/04/2017

Didn't someone from Led Zeppelin put an octopus, red snapper, or some type of fish or sea creature into a woman's vagina?

by Anonymousreply 57412/04/2017

The original story was that it was a small shark, but the actual story is that their road manager, Richard Cole, was the one who did it, think it was a large fish.

Richard ended up going to jail, for something completely unrelated.

Led Zep certainly surrounded themselves with shady characters The rumor was, their late manager, that obese slob Peter Grant, was an actual gangster before he started managing bands. Richard Cole was shady too. I'm sure lots of groupies were raped by Zep's road crew over the years.

by Anonymousreply 57512/04/2017

Thanks, R548! Recently saw a bit from "Private Lives" at an artsy cabaret show, it was so fun!

by Anonymousreply 57612/05/2017

Thanks for the dish on Elvis Costello R565. I have yet to "get" his music, although I'm getting there I suppose. Maybe it helps to be over 50. And white. And...

by Anonymousreply 57712/05/2017

Audrey wasn't androgynous or boyish. An average woman will facially look more like a teen when in her twenties than most men will because male faces grow more. She didn't have much of a figure, but I think Led Zeppelin liked them thin.

I couldn't find a version of the picture without text over it:

by Anonymousreply 57812/05/2017

While looking Audrey up I found this:

[quote]It did pull at the heart strings a little when she said, " I should have waited, I don't know." She said they talked for a while in the 80's and she did confirm that "Hot Dog" was written for her. She was fully aware of the heavy drugs on that tour, and when I asked about Jimmy, she just said: "Jimmy was a full blown heroin addict." She told me that Bonzo was very serious and stern when he told her aboard the first flight: "DON'T LEAVE MY SIDE" and "Be very careful" She didn't seem to keen on John Paul Jones, and said the feeling was mutual. She went as far to say that Jones "hated" her, and called her a "home-wrecker" She told me the only time Plant asked her not to walk off the plane with him was when they got to NY. There was a very strong feeling from talking with her that the romance was very real, and very passionate. Funny story from the interview was her recollection of Jimmy's obsession with transvestites. She said Robert would point out the transvestites hanging around Jimmy’s suite while on the tour. (Royal Orleans)???

by Anonymousreply 57912/05/2017

I saw someone I knew had to be Stevie Nicks, sans all make up, her hair in a ponytail and wearing a Led Zep t-shirt shopping at Fry's Market in Paradise Valley. She didn't have a cart and had her groceries bunched up to her chest looking around for someone. A store employee brought her a basket and she effusively thanked him. It had to be here once I heard her throaty voice.

by Anonymousreply 58012/05/2017

I thought the two sisters in the Bangles were the talented ones who got shoved to the side when their management focused on Hoffs.

by Anonymousreply 58112/05/2017

R565 just saw squeeze this past weekend - excellent show. Anyhow, it's first time difford is back on US tours in a long time, the story is because he can't handle the touring lifestyle when away from the U.K. . While diffords trouble with booze is known I wonder if he was a sex addict too. A friend was at the same hotel as the band (it was a very modest chain but had a bar in the lobby) in the Philly suburbs in the mid 80s and observed difford going back and forth from his room to the lobby with 5 different women in a two hour period. Who knew he could score like that? Glenn Tillbrook is sweet, funny and adorable still.

All I can say from the older thread is that Pamela Des Barres looks and looked adorable.

How is this for a whacky Yoko Ono story...during her pregnancy in the late 60s (Which ultimately ended in a miscarriage) she was ordered to 'bed rest' because of her high risk pregnancy. John was recording with the Beatles, they had a bed set up at the recording story for Yoko to be there. When she didn't like something she would say, "No Beatles, do it this way."

Here's a bat shit John Lennon story for the audio dairies that he record in 1979. Which I think snippets of can be found on YouTube. Lennon mentioned an incident with his mother, Julia. When he was a teenager, he went to visit her. They laid in her bed. He touched her breasts. She didn't swat his hand away or tell him to stop. He said he was too much of a coward to try for more. Keep in mind that he never thought anyone would hear these ramblings. So, I tend to think he wanted to fuck his mother.

by Anonymousreply 58612/05/2017

It seems like a lot of the very successful (note I didn’t say ‘good’) popular rock bands have a 50/50 split between asshole members & halfway decent ones. It’s like a Golden Ratio, almost.

Motley Crue is a great example. Nikki Sixx owns this fucking thread all by himself, ask anyone over the age of 40 who knows rock or who grew up in L.A. Or go read the Vanity threads here for more horror stories. Vince Neil wasn’t much better, didn’t one of his wives accuse him of beating her? But then to make up for those two you have that adorably goofy walking-STD Tommy Lee, and Mick goddamn Mars himself I.e. the nicest dude in rock (and the one with greatest cause to be unhappy, between depression & illness),

by Anonymousreply 58712/05/2017

I'm being unfair, the other thread's fantastic. Rolling Stones, Jefferson Airplane... This one's Beatles and Sting.

Both are pretty curt on Costello.

by Anonymousreply 58812/05/2017

Saw Squeeze at many downtown NYC venues before they became more popular, they had awful taste in groupies. They were always with odd looking women,

At one venue, which would later become Irving Plaza, the guys were with some of the weirdest looking women I'd ever seen in my life. I saw Jools, Glenn and Chris with very unattractive groupies, One was very skinny with very short hair and huge implants, the others were so nondescript, I don't even remember what they looked like. The guys were parading these women around as if they were beauty queens. Rumor has it that Glenn is hung.

by Anonymousreply 58912/05/2017

I met a make up artist who said rock star adjacent Pam Anderson was really sweet and Cher was very cool.

by Anonymousreply 59012/05/2017

r587 no disrespect to Mick Mars, because I know he's been through a lot (it hurts just to see him poor soul), but he had no business being anywhere near that scene. He was unattractive, untalented and had absolutely no charisma, in a 'rock star' sense. I forget who it was, their producer or an A&R guy who used to go nuts over Mars being in the band because it was hard to work with him because he couldn't play for shit. He was a decent guy though, but it is easier to do when you're not out front, or the talent behind the band (like Stephen Stills).

John Lowery is like that--another great guy who drafted behind bigger artists and that's probably why no one apparently has a bad word to say about him. I was going to mention him in the "celebrities you'd be devastated to learn had a scandal around them" thread, but he's not really a celebrity.

by Anonymousreply 59112/05/2017

R585 Opinion noted, Pam!

Elvis and Nick Adams were an odd couple. Adams's daughter published a book Nick wrote about his trips to Graceland where he and Elvis would share a room. Adams was getting a lot of publicity because of The Rebel TV show and Elvis was very impressed by him. There has always been a rumor they had an affair.

Elvis's other crush was Tom Jones. There an awkward encounter in the bathroom:

"He was standing there cleaning up, looking in the mirror and so I'm naked and he's half-naked; his pants are down by his ankles," Jones tells U.S. chat show host Conan O'Brien. "He's singing this song to me.

"I'm trying to towel down and Elvis is singing... and then of course I said, 'Elvis, you know your pants...' and he went, 'Red!', because he used to have a bodyguard called Red... so Red busts through the door, thinking there's something wrong... and he says, 'My pants, man...'"

The minder, Red West, then proceeded to help Elvis squeeze back into his skintight leather trousers.

by Anonymousreply 59612/05/2017

I read an article about one of Elvis's girlfriends after he broke up with Pricilla. She was lying in bed with Elvis, nothing much was happening so she got up, went into the next room and said to his gofers that she believed that Elvis liked guys better than girls.

He seemed to be at least bi back in the day but couldn't come out at that time period.

by Anonymousreply 59712/05/2017

R565 I was backstage with my brother waiting to watch a band his friend was performing in. Circa 1980. The Bangles (then known as The Bangs) were up on stage first. No one knew them yet. No record deal or hits. After their set, they ran to a dressing room I was sitting in. Susanna Hoffs collapsed against the wall and yelled, "We were awful!" I couldn't stop laughing. They really were awful, but at least they knew it.

I'm a Canadian and I read a biography of Celine Dion written by a fellow French Canadian like her from the province of Quebec. He stated that her manager Rene Angelil (and future husband-to-be) believed that she had a great voice and started to mentor her - he also started to sleep with her when she was underage, only 15 at the time, and him being a married man being 25 years older than her.

He saw her as the goose that could lay the golden eggs and eventually asked his wife for a divorce so that he could marry Celine. He gave his wife anything she wanted, including unlimited money, in order to keep her mouth shut. Whatever he and Celine got financially he shared with his ex-wife and they were always on good terms. There was a method to his madness.

by Anonymousreply 59912/05/2017

I'm listening to Pete Townsend's autobiography, and he says Mick Jagger was the only guy he ever wanted to fuck. I find that really hard to believe, considering Pete said one chapter earlier that he kinda hoped the Who's first manager would try to seduce him.

But it's amazing how many of those British rock stars/bands (and Jimmy Hendrix) were all in London, all hanging out and watching each other's shows in the early-mid 60s. The Who, Stones, Beatles, Kinks, Pink Floyd, Jimmy Hendrix, Clapton, Steve Winwood, etc etc etc.
