California Republicans are in danger of losing 7 Congressional House seats in 2018

California Republicans?

You in danger, girl.

by Anonymousreply 8512/19/2017

ROYAL FLUSH of all Republican congressmen from California!

by Anonymousreply 111/09/2017

The Republican party in California is dying a long, slow, tortorous death.

Less than 1/4 of Californians identify as Republicans anymore. In a state with a larger population than Canada, fewer than 1/4 identify as Republicans.

by Anonymousreply 211/09/2017

Tone deaf California Republicans ignore shifting mood in the state and ask Steve Bannon to help unite dying party.

by Anonymousreply 511/09/2017

The California repigs never recovered from this filthy low, and will not ever

by Anonymousreply 611/09/2017

Hackers won't save these California republican lambs out for slaughter.

by Anonymousreply 711/09/2017

Screw waiting for 2018, I am ready to vote them out now.

by Anonymousreply 811/09/2017

It’s interesting, since California gave us Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan. That wasn’t so long ago. But it’s all different now.

by Anonymousreply 911/09/2017

Dear Lord Jaysus, I pray and beseech thee, please, please, please smite Devin Nunes. Smite him Lorrrd. Smite him right up his ass and after he is good and smote, please let the San Andreas tectonic plates crush him, and incinerate him, and run him out of Congress. If you do that, I will say one Our Father and 10 Hail Marys every day for the next year.

P.S. and please take that damned vineyard/wine business he and his Russian Partners own get burned to ashes. Burnt. Ashes. OK. I'm done.

by Anonymousreply 1111/09/2017

Let the church say AMEN!

by Anonymousreply 1211/09/2017

7 House seats is a big fuckin deal.

Has FOX News addressed this?

by Anonymousreply 1311/09/2017

Fox did 6 seconds on Tuesday election so doubtful. They have important emoji stories to cover

by Anonymousreply 1411/09/2017

[quote]It’s interesting, since California gave us Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan. That wasn’t so long ago. [bold]But it’s all different now.[/bold]

It is thanks in grand part to the Clintons and Prop 187 in R1994. Ever heard of the term "Clinton Democrats," even if the Berniebots say it with repudiation. It is what California is. To quote the article @ R2 :

[italic]The California Republican Party produced two American presidents: Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan. [bold]But starting in 1992 with the election of Bill Clinton, Californians began leaning Democratic and have not supported a Republican for president since[/bold]. [/italic]

by Anonymousreply 1511/09/2017

This has to be highlighted from OP's article :

-[bold]80 different Democrats are challenging the 13 House Republican seats in California.[/bold]

-[bold]90% of the money raised in California has gone to Democrats challengers.[/bold]

-[bold]70% of the Republican money raised is going to the four races in Orange County where Darrel Issa and Putin loyalist Dana Rohrabacher might fall to a Democrat. [/bold]

It would be such a blow to the Republican party if they lose Issa and Putin recruit Rohrabecher.

Expect Russia to fight for those two.

by Anonymousreply 1611/09/2017

IIRC, Issa is the wealthiest man in the House. That makes him hard to beat.

by Anonymousreply 1711/09/2017

If ONLY California held the same power as a nation the size of Canada!

by Anonymousreply 1811/09/2017

There will always be Republicans in Bakersfield and Fresno and way up North near the Oregon border, but we have a chance the get rid of all of them in Orange and Riverside counties.

by Anonymousreply 1911/09/2017

Doug Applegate is up against Issa in California. Applegate almost won the last time. The district is full of gated communities, so it is hard to do the door to door campaign activities. It seems even republican Californians are sick of Issa. He is pretty extreme for Southern California and he is a criminal.

by Anonymousreply 2011/09/2017

Yes its time for Orange County voters to turn the page and join Los Angeles County voters.

Out with Issa!

by Anonymousreply 2111/09/2017

Speaking of California politics: The Governor race might shut out the Republican out of the November 2018 midterm election. Hahahaha

Worse, many of these congressional races are likely to feature two Democrats and no Republican. : o

The California primary to Trim the massive field of candidates is in June 5, 2018 , and the main election is in Nov. 2018.

by Anonymousreply 2211/09/2017

Issa is done!

by Anonymousreply 2311/09/2017

Another medium promoting its agenda; or

Polls are used to re-enforce an agenda (it's all in how you word the question); or

Polls are far more wrong than right (Hillary Clinton, anyone?); or (and the most sensible/realistic)

Let's wait for voting results.

by Anonymousreply 2411/09/2017

Or you're an idiot who doesn't live in California and doesn't realize that being associated with Trump is associating yourself with garbage here.

by Anonymousreply 2511/09/2017

Or you're R25 who truly believes that juvenile pejoratives constitute adult discourse.

by Anonymousreply 2611/09/2017

Okay, r24, we'll see you on November 7, 2018, hopefully crying yourself to sleep.

by Anonymousreply 2711/09/2017

The senate race to replace Barbara Boxer also was between two Dems -- Kamala Harris and Loretta Sanchez

by Anonymousreply 2811/09/2017

What is there to discuss? Trump is shit. California knows it. Even historically Republican strongholds like Orange County and Riverside/San Bernardino Counties rejected him at the November ballots. California is rejecting the GOP to the point that they are essentially obsolete. Even "Independents" make up a bigger portion of the CA electorate. Republicans are a joke here.

by Anonymousreply 2911/09/2017

I live in a big city. My parents, my mechanic, and all of my best friend’s teacher/cop relatives are Republicans. My parents hate Brown (Moonbeam) and are Howard Jarvis fans. My friend’s family believes in the NRA and Antifa, and thinks it’s Obama’s fault the IRS audited them. Real estate professionals also tend to be anti-Democrat. Ever spent any time with Association members? Hoo boy. Eye opening.

R19 is correct about Fresno/Riverside (Sinclair country, too), but it’s not as isolated as that. There are huge pockets in the large metropolitan cities. (Trust me, I know.)

Issa is an asshole and we see cracks. There is hope. Then there’s that Tom asshole up in central California, the one whose town halls were overrun during the ACA appeal attempts. He unabashedly says he doesn’t represent all his constituents, but only the ones who voted for him.

Rohrabacher and Nunes are the ones I am most passionate about destroying, because they’re not just greedy and anti-tax, but anti-America and unabashedly pro-Putin.

by Anonymousreply 3011/09/2017

Hmmm, voting results--like the result in the last Senate race where the Republicans couldn't even get enough votes to field a candidate in the general election? Or the results of the last ten years during which no Republican has been elected to statewide office?

Orange County used to be the Republican stronghold of the state, but it's a lot more diverse than it used to be--and Prop. 187 (which passed) cost the GOP the nonwhite vote.

After years as a Republican hold-out in SoCal, Orange County went for Hillary in 2016.

As an extra bonus, California Republicans will be hard hit by the GOP tax plan, given the state's high housing prices and income tax. The GOP congressmen most likely to survive are in the rural areas. Issa and Rohrabacher aren't.

by Anonymousreply 3111/09/2017

Rohrabacher is definitely going down. Nunes going down would be a good upset (Visalia/Fresno) , Tom Steyer has been running his "impeach Trump" ads constantly in the San Joaquin Valley (Kern/Fresno/Visalia) god bless him for being a good soldier.

by Anonymousreply 3211/09/2017

In San Diego County, we have a progressive gay Democrat (Dave Myers) running for Sheriff against an ancient and decrepit 70 year old Republican incumbent (Bill Gore) who is a major supporter of vile and disgusting homophobe Darrell Issa. Gore is a shady and sleazy career politician who is trying hard to portray himself as a "moderate" Republican even though he is backed by the for-profit prison industry, is against testing hundreds of rape kits, refuses to acknowledge the possibility of racial bias in policing in his agency, and is responsible in part for the deadly Hepatitis A outbreak that has now killed 18 people and sickened more than 500 residents. The slime bucket has not implemented body-worn cameras for Deputies, probably the only major law enforcement agency in the entire country still without body-worn cameras. This dinosaur was also caught meeting with a foreign national to discuss how to get foreign money for his reelection campaign and the mayoral race of his buddy, an equally awful Republican lesbian. The business man was later convicted of multiple counts of campaign fund laundering, and our great Sheriff Gore suddenly developed amnesia about what actually transpired during their meeting. Looks like the Democratic wave that is sweeping California will flush down the toilet the last remaining Republicunts like Issa and Gore. Check out Dave Myers for Sheriff. He's going to be the first openly gay male candidate to become Sheriff in US history (there's already a lesbian Sheriff) but not an openly gay male Sheriff - yet.

by Anonymousreply 3311/09/2017

[quote]Ever heard of the term "Clinton Democrats," even if the Berniebots say it with repudiation. It is what California is.

Yes, exactly. This is why it annoys the fuck out of me when Berniebots claim they must 'take over' the CA Democratic Party, that our Dems here are too 'establishment'. We are the most progressive state in the union, and we do it with Clinton/Obama Democrats leading us, NOT Bernie people. What we're doing here is working.

by Anonymousreply 3411/09/2017

California Dems should go after the women. The Repug-lite soccer moms who balance the family budget will miss that big federal tax deduction, and they don't want little Madisyn and Jayden to be blown up by North Korea because of a 3am tweet. It will be easier to turn the women. The old racist white men just have to die out. The young alt rights are not saveable.

by Anonymousreply 3511/09/2017

GOP used to have a firewall in Orange County and Riverside, but that's changing quickly.

by Anonymousreply 3611/09/2017

Once the Dems purge the Repubes out of Orange County and Riverside, it will be game over for the Republicans in California. Fresno/Tulare and Kern County will eventually fall in the next few elections. Rohrabacher is a good friend of Vladimir Putin, and I fully expect the Russians to send their troll armies next year. These are the 7 districts (of 12 red seats) that Dems think are in play in 2018 :

[quote] District 10: [bold]Jeff Denham (R-Turlock)[/bold] vs Mike Barkley (D), Mateo Morelos Bedolla (D), TJ Cox (D), Josh Harder (D), Virginia Madueno (D), Dotty Nygard (D), Seth Vaughn (D), Sue Zwahlen (D), and Terra Snover (Independent)

[quote] District 21: [bold]David Valadao (R-Hanford)[/bold] vs Emili Huerta (D)

[quote] District 25: [bold]Steve Knight (R-Palmdale)[/bold] vs Bryan Caforio (D), Kelan Farrell-Smith (D), Daniel Fleming (D),Diedra Greenaway (D), Katie Hill (D), and Jess Phoenix (D)

[quote]District 39: [bold]Ed Royce (R-Fullerton)[/bold] vs Gil Cisneros (D),Sam Jammal (D),Phil Janowicz (D),Ted Rusk (D), Andy Thorburn (D) Mai Khanh Tran (D), Julio Castañeda (Independent), and Steve Cox (Independent).

[quote]District 45: [bold]Mimi Walters (R-Irvine)[/bold] vs Brian Forde (D), Kia Hamadanchy (D), Dave Min (D), Katie Porter (D), Greg Ramsay (D), Eric Rywalski (D), Ron Varasteh (D), and John Graham (Independent)

[quote] District 48: [bold]Dana Rohrabacher (R-Costa Mesa)[/bold] vs Hans Keirstead (D), Party Michael Kotick (D), Laura Oatman (D), Boyd Roberts (D), Harley Rouda (D), Omar Siddiqui (D), Tony Zarkades (D), Party Scott Baugh (R), Stelian Onufrei (R), Brandon Reiser (Libertarian), and Kevin Kensinger (Independent).

[quote] District 49: [bold]Darrell Issa (R-Vista[/bold] vs Douglas Applegate (D), Paul Kerr (D), and Mike Levin (D).

Ughh Antonio Sabato Jr. is trying to unseat District 26 . You bitches in Ventura/Los Angeles better not allow it! Sanders protege is targeting Ted Lieu in District 33. Fuck you Bernie!

Those in San Diego better come through for Latin hottie Ammar Campa-Najjar <3 in District 50. He's too purdy to lose.

by Anonymousreply 3711/10/2017

The democrat running to take out Issa is Mike Levin. Attorney specializing in evnironmental protection law. Really good looking guy. A little wacky going off his twitter feed. Give him money if you can spare it. Issa is the richest member of congress

by Anonymousreply 3811/10/2017

Note that Nunes isn't on that list. His district to R+10 on the Cook Partisan Voting Index

by Anonymousreply 3911/10/2017

Not only that, it's heavily portugese, like Nunes is. They will stick together and support him over anyone.

by Anonymousreply 4011/10/2017

None of California's 53 districts has a R majority.

Also the districts are drawn by an independent commission without reference to voter registration to avoid gerrymandering

by Anonymousreply 4111/10/2017

Article on how districts are drawn

by Anonymousreply 4211/10/2017

Add McClintock to the list !!

by Anonymousreply 4311/10/2017

If I were Democrats, I would spend money to hire people to be at the polling places in Nunes' and Issa's districts to make sure no funny business goes on. I'd video the size of lines, I'd tell people to record anyone who says they can't vote.

by Anonymousreply 4411/10/2017

That is a great idea, R44. Surely, the California Democratic Party could find people to do this.

Hell, I would do it for free!

by Anonymousreply 4511/10/2017

22% of Californians still support the asshole.

by Anonymousreply 4611/10/2017

[quote] R24: Polls are far more wrong than right ...

Stupidest thing I’ve heard all day. And I had lunch with the Christmas Moose, too. This is still stupidest.

by Anonymousreply 4711/10/2017

[quote] Or you're an idiot who doesn't live in California and doesn't realize that being associated with Trump is associating yourself with garbage here.

Nunes' district is 45% Hispanic, and given it's California, most of those are probably of Mexican descent. You'd think Trump's hateful comments and Nunes' ass-licking of Trump would hurt him, but who knows?

42.4% White 2.8% Black 7.3% Asian 44.8% Hispanic 2.8[1]% other

by Anonymousreply 4811/10/2017

A lot of those races where Republicans win are determine by Republicans and independents as a coalition, but as the article @ R41 noted California districts have a 90%+ retention rate. In other words, Democrats have not really made the effort to take those last Republican strongholds because until now they do not have an impact in the state's overall politics. Democrats control state government and the majority of the seats they send to Washington, so the DNC have never made a real push to meddle into California's politics until now.

It's outstanding how the Democratic party never put much attention to California, perhaps it was a good thing because it allowed the state's political landscape to grow organically.

From the article @ R41

[quote]“There are a number of Republican incumbents who are sitting on ticking time bombs,” said Eric McGhee,

[quote]But last month’s state registration report reveals an accelerated erosion of GOP strength.

[quote]“There’s a long-term trend for [bold]Republican registration to be sagging,” McGhee said. The reason, as he and other researchers have found, is that young Californians coming into the political mainstream are registering either as Democrats or as unaffiliated[/bold] “no party preference” voters.

[quote]22% of Californians still support the asshole.

That is around 8.8 million people. California has a population of 39.8-40.2 million people. It makes sense that we still have some Republican strongholds.

[quote]Nunes' district is 45% Hispanic,

Most Hispanics in the San Joaquin Valley are not citizens ( legal residents only or illegal) or were under 18 (under legal voting age) in 2016. Remember that the majority in California is under 18, that goes for Hispanics too. California has the youngest population in the US.

by Anonymousreply 4911/10/2017

Please vote these fuckers out wherever you find them. Except for Ana Navarro; she's great fun on Twitter. TIA!

by Anonymousreply 5011/10/2017

R49 there needs to be a drive to register young latinos in the San Joaquin Valley as they come of age. A vast majority are American citizens. Statewide, Mexican-Americans are very well represented at all levels of government (unlike states like AZ and (for the most part) TX) and are extremely progressive.

And If the Suprene Court oks gerrymandering, we need to play hardball and gerrymander the hell out of the state so no puke is elected to Congress from CA again. We have the numbers for it.

R49 your 8.8 million inludes under 18 so that's not really the right number. Good post

by Anonymousreply 5111/10/2017

It has been an immense pleasure watching the Republican party die in California!

by Anonymousreply 5211/10/2017

Never happen. California outside of liberal San Francisco and poor LA is Republican. Of course since CA lets illegals vote with no consequence, this could be a factor.

by Anonymousreply 5311/10/2017

Uh 30 years ago, maybe. Modern-day California is blue all along the coast as well as the bigger inland cities. Even Orange County voted for Hillary. So did San Diego, Sacramento, San Jose, Fresno . . .

It's not because illegals vote; it's because the GOP is too damn loony for most of us. Even I was surprised by that link above that shows GOP membership in California being so low that not a single congressional district has a Republican majority. Not one.

The poster who described Californians as being Clinton Democrats is right. Bernie didn't win any of the SF Bay Area counties (closest he got was Santa Cruz) and Clinton beat Obama here in 2008. There are a bunch of Berners, of course, but because so many people are Democrats, the party as a whole is fairly moderate.

by Anonymousreply 5411/11/2017

[quote] Of course since CA lets illegals vote with no consequence, this could be a factor.

I am a Mexican-American, and the idea that 'illegals' vote here in CA is 100% pure wingnut bullshit. Fuck off back to Breitbart, pendejo.

by Anonymousreply 5511/11/2017

R53 is an idiot who doesn't live in California, but saw a map of huge Inyo County being red, and thinks that their population of 18,000 means the "rest of California is republican!"

by Anonymousreply 5611/11/2017

[quote] Never happen. California outside of liberal San Francisco and poor LA is Republican. Of course since CA lets illegals vote with no consequence, this could be a factor.

I'll take "What Rusians know about California," for 200, Alex.

by Anonymousreply 5711/11/2017

Ve need build wall! No legals no more!

by Anonymousreply 5811/11/2017

Make it happen.

by Anonymousreply 5911/14/2017

Darrell Issa (R) almost lost against Doug Applegate (D) the last time. There was no organize attempt to defeat him last time either. Next year, there will be. I think Doug Applegate is our best chance. He is a former military colonel and a progressive. Republicans love the military here. The others seem shady.

I depise Issa and I want him out. Fuck these other candidates who are trying to steal our thunder.

by Anonymousreply 6011/14/2017

We want Doug Applegate (D).

we want ISSA out.

Mike Levin is an Exxon Mobile goon. He is no good.

by Anonymousreply 6111/14/2017

Applegate already lost once. Mike Levin will vote like he is told just like every other blue state congressman. And he is more likely to win

by Anonymousreply 6211/15/2017

R24, the polls on Clinton/Trump weren't wrong.

by Anonymousreply 6311/15/2017

Levin is a fucking Exxon-Mobile Goon. WE WANT DOUG APPLEGATE. He literally almost won without any organized campaign backing him.

NO on LEVIN. I hope the con artist prick drops out.

We Want Doug Applegate!

by Anonymousreply 6411/15/2017

[quote] He literally almost won without any organized campaign backing him.

LMAO yea right, he was endorsed by even prominent democrat in California and even BARACK OBAMA who was president at the time spoke a fundraiser for him. Applegate LOST and because of that Issa is still around. We need to get him out of there. Levin will be better on literally every issue.

by Anonymousreply 6511/16/2017

Get them out!

by Anonymousreply 6611/16/2017

Nothing to see. Move along now

by Anonymousreply 6711/16/2017

In California, there is a 2-party system.

Democrat and more progressive than mainstream Democrat.

The republican party is dead 💀💀💀

by Anonymousreply 6811/16/2017

It's really interesting how much California has changed in my lifetime. We've had extremely conservative Republican senators (Max Rafferty anyone?) and lots of other Republican senators and governors ... and it all fell apart for them with Prop. 187. Except for the fluke that was Arnold, it's been blue, blue, blue since then.

by Anonymousreply 6911/16/2017

We have a larger population than Canada, twice the size the economy of Russia. Now wouldn't we have a nice, little progressive nation if we weren't being brought down by these disgusting Republicans?

by Anonymousreply 7011/16/2017

This is straightforward California vs. the lying, fake polite South right here.

by Anonymousreply 7111/16/2017

But we have MANNAHs!

by Anonymousreply 7211/16/2017

Californians have manners and tell shit like it is!

by Anonymousreply 7311/16/2017

by Anonymousreply 7411/16/2017

by Anonymousreply 7512/05/2017

I am not liking that Sanders protege is still trying to unseat Ted Lieu, but I doubt it gets any traction. I wish Ted could be president, but he can't because he was born in China?

Oh my, I was not expecting the governor's race to be close, but can I say that Villaraigoza very comfortably won the debate... Where the fuck was this version of Villa when he was mayor? I think the shock is what caught Newsom off guard: "what? You have a brain?" Hehe

Ok people, is the displacement of families due to the wild fires in both Southern and Northern California about to change the race in some districts? I am not sure if those that are migrating to the San Joaquin Valley from the North are Dems or Repubes...

I hope this doesn't tip some districts to the Republican side.

by Anonymousreply 7612/06/2017

Republicans may stay home in the November election because there will likely be two Democrats on the ballot for the two biggest prizes (Governor and Senator.)

by Anonymousreply 7712/06/2017

I love the top 2 vote-getters rule in California. It completely freezes the republicans out of top offices and state engagement!

by Anonymousreply 7812/06/2017

Villaraigosa was a shiitty mayor. Newsom"s too slick.

by Anonymousreply 7912/07/2017

I hope CA purges all Repugs from the state.

by Anonymousreply 8012/07/2017

I do think Newsom would fight Trump to the bitter end. Villaraigosa was just a starfucker.

by Anonymousreply 8112/07/2017

I love reading this stupid, ugly cunt's Twitter. His constituents HATE him! He is a dead man walking!

by Anonymousreply 8212/19/2017

Oh boy, I guess the Reps in California went rogue since they know they are getting the boot...still wow.

by Anonymousreply 8312/19/2017

Flush. Them. Out!

by Anonymousreply 8412/19/2017

If California can't dump Devin Nunes after this year of debacles, there's no hope.
