I think Queen Maxima of The Netherlands is just fab. I love that she comes from Argentina, of all places, and wound up a Dutch royal. The House of Orange is supposed to be ridiculously rich, from oil money. And Max just looks fantastic when all glammed up, the Oranges have a very impressive jewel collection and it’s as if the piece she came to new life when she started wearing them.

The Scandinavian Royals seem like a lot of fun. Princess Madeleine of Sweden is very pretty. Crown Prince Haakon of Norway is kind of foxy looking.

R5 Gorgeous Prince Carl Philip, who looks so much like his father. He was crown prince from his birth until the Swedish parliament changed the law of ascension such that his sister, Victoria, would succeed their father rather than him. She was first born, but he was first born male.
(This is him and his father, the King.)

|by Anonymous||reply 14||10/29/2017|
That’s actually not the Crown Prince. That’s his brother and his family. The Crown Prince’s wife failed to produce a male heir. Despite a historic precedent of female Empress Regnants, the Japanese throne will skip the Crown Prince’s daughter and instead go to the Crown Prince’s brother’s son. The whole thing drove The Crown Princess to a nervous breakdown, she was a recluse for many years.

The Alba family collection of art and objects is amazing, but I don’t think they can just outright sell them. According to Wikipedia: “paintings by old and modern masters (from Fra Angelico, Titian and Goya to Renoir and Marc Chagall), a first-edition copy of Cervantes's Don Quixote, letters written by Christopher Columbus, and huge tracts of land; her wealth was estimated at between €600 million and €3.5 billion.“
|by Anonymous||reply 37||10/30/2017|
I mean at this point the family are custodians of important artifacts of Spanish history, if they sold them and they left Spain there would probably be a huge outcry. But maybe they *could* sell them, they just choose not to or they are getting pressure not to.

Meet the Hereditary Grand Duke and Duchess of Luxembourg, Stephanie and Guillaume.
Duchess Stephanie is the daughter of Count Philippe de Lannoy, a very wealthy aristo whose family dates back to the 1300's. Stephanie is now even richer, being married to Duke Guillaume. She does not need to wear designer rags and borrowed jewelry to prove her nobility - she was born into it. She simply does not give a hoot how she looks and what she wears, and I find her adorable for that reason. She has been excoriated for wearing scrunchies in her hair at official events! Horrors!

Max’s father was part of the ‘Junta’ that was in power in Argentina. I think he was in the agriculture ministry but he was well connected to the dictator and I don’t think his hands are clean when it comes to embezzled wealth or Disappearances. The Dutch government though better of inviting him. Crown Princess Maxima wept during the portion of her wedding ceremony where they played an orchestral version of an Argentinian tango. Most interpreted it as her sorrow that important members of her family were not present. I can’t watch this video without being moved myself. I completely fell in love with Maxima from this point.
|by Anonymous||reply 65||10/30/2017|

|by Anonymous||reply 73||10/30/2017|
R73 She was left with $500 million debt when her very old husband died. She sold off all the family silver, jewelry, car collection and some artwork. She opened their main castle for public tours (15 Euros). She did work very hard to learn about money management and did what she could to protect her children.
|by Anonymous||reply 74||10/30/2017|
She brought the family fortune back up herself, I read a magazine article despite her party girl past she learned the business and managed to make it all profitable again. Her son is immensely rich now, not sure if he married yet but if not he’s got to be on one of Europe’s most eligible.
|by Anonymous||reply 75||10/30/2017|

The Norwegian king is the custodian of a pretty decent jewel collection for his wife though. She has about six or seven tiaras at her disposal, which is more than some other consorts have. Something weird about King Mohammed of Morocco’s face, I think he’s using lightening potions on his skin. Compare him to his brother on the right, Prince Moulay Rashid.

Slowly going thru this thread. That's a beautiful family at R16, why did they get divorced?
|by Anonymous||reply 140||11/02/2017|
I should Google it too. I wonder if he was unfaithful, because she got a countess title out of the deal and a stipend and nice house.

Crown Prince Pavlos is prince of nowhere. The Greeks voted to abolish the monarchy and even though Constantine II has returned to Greece, he longer has Greek citizenship - the Greek government stripped him of that 2 decades ago. They refuse to allow him to become a Greek citizen until he uses a last name, as all Greek citizens are required to do.
It is an affront to the people of Greece that these people parade around with nonexistent titles that were abolished by popular vote. Crown Prince Pavlos does not have any claim to the Greek throne - the monarchy has been abolished. Pavlos and his parents are propped up financially by Robert Miller and his billions, because one of his daughters wanted to play dress up with tiaras and call herself a Princess, when in fact she is not.
Without Miller, Pavlos would spend less time racing yachts (all owned by Miller) and would have to spend more time working . Perhaps he could design jewelry like the Prince of (nonexistent) Yugoslavia.

Princess Camilla of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, with Prince Carlo, Duke of Castro, is a like a cotton candy confection.

Camilla in blue. Dazzling.

What's the tea on Marit of Norway? How'd she snag the future King?

Rafael de Medina, 20th Duke of Feria, Grandee of Spain, and his mother the glorious Nati Abascal.

Nati and her sons Rafael and Luis.

R142 - The Greek royals actually ARE royal - they are all also Princes and Princesses of Denmark. All male-line Green royal descendants of King Christian IX of Denmark have the title Prince or Princess of Denmark as well as their defunct Greek titles. So, they are indeed royal.

R145, Mette Marit was a single mom and a coffee shop counter girl by day who was a raver by night. There was a big dance music festival in Norway and the crown prince was there and being an unassuming guy I guess he was mingling with the crowd and met her. She did a teary confession on TV acknowledging her wild past (sex, party drugs, clubs) at the time of the engagement. I know there is very frequent talk about marital problems to the point where the palace had to release a statement to refute the story. I think part of the problem is that she disappeared from sight for a long time due to neck or spine problems and I guess that added fuel to the fire. It’s not uncommon for Haakon to escort his aunt Princess Astrid on state occasions though, maybe because of protocol and precedence. So when he walks in with her and Mette Maria walks in with someone else, it certainly looks outwardly like they are estranged.

What about Russian royals?
On a separate subject...The Windsor’s have a last name. How hard is it for the Greeks to come up with one?
|by Anonymous||reply 153||Last Thursday at 7:38 AM|
I thought they were Glucksburgs?
|by Anonymous||reply 154||Last Thursday at 9:03 AM|
Regarding Russians, I think GD Georgi is really cute in a bear cub kind of way.

The Greek Royal Family come from the House of Glücksburg, but I don't think they use Glücksburg as a last name.
|by Anonymous||reply 157||Last Thursday at 3:51 PM|
Oh, that Russian was cute a decade ago. He got fat. Looks like his granddad.

R157 The Greek government won't give the former king Greek citizens ship until he uses a lastname and the former king refuses to do so.
One of his daughters uses the last name Greece but I don't know if it is official. She used it in her college diploma. Her name is Theodora Greece and she's an actress.
His other daughter Alexia lives in Spain I think she uses "de Grecia" (of Greece in Spanish) as her lastname.
I think the whole family has Danish diplomatic passports. They are also princes of Denmark & The Queen of Denmark is their mother's sister.

What about the Royal Turk? Are they extinct?
|by Anonymous||reply 160||Last Thursday at 5:34 PM|
Ex King Constantine is just being a pill then. He’s a direct descendant of the House of Oldenburg. That’s the closet thing to a last name, or even Glücksburg which is the name of their branch of the Oldenburg house.

I would pick Constantine Trump. MGGA

I don't have a favorite but wanted to share something I just saw:
[bold]Meet the world's youngest queen, 27-year-old Jetsun Pema of Bhutan[/bold]
Jetsun Pema, 27, is the world's youngest living queen. She took the throne at the age of 21 in 2011, when she married King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan, now 37. The couple — who have a 1-year-old son, Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck — have both studied in England, share a love of art, and were once dubbed the "Will and Kate of The Himalayas."

The remaining Habsburg line use "von Habsburg" as a surname. The House of Savoy descendants use "di Savoia." Even the Earl of Wessex is credited as Edward Windsor on his productions. So why don't the Greek royals just use Glücksburg as a surname? Is it because it isn't Greek?

The eldest son of the heir to the throne of Liechtenstein. Prince Wenzel. He looks scary to me, and a little bit handicapped. But he’ll be a billionaire. That family is richer than the Windsors.
