Let's Discuss Barry Van Dyke... And His Body of Work, Beloved Elders!

Barry Van Dyke (born July 31, 1951) is an American actor and the second son of actor and entertainer Dick Van Dyke as well as the stepson of makeup artist Arlene Silver-Van Dyke and nephew of Jerry Van Dyke.

He was best known to audiences as Lieutenant Detective Steve Sloan, a homicide detective and the son of Dr. Mark Sloan (played by Dick Van Dyke) on Diagnosis: Murder. In the show, the characters' relatives were frequently played by real-life family members.

Is that.... TV's Morgan Fairchild?

She knew a decent slab of beef when she saw one.

Beautiful but dull

by Anonymousreply 4October 22, 2017 6:07 PM

Did he produce any equally hot sons?

by Anonymousreply 5October 22, 2017 6:08 PM

One of the hottest men ever to grace a TV screen, now and forever.

Funny, I just watched the abysmally-bad Galactica 1980 because of a random comment that suggested the reboot (probably some of the best television, ever) was based on a throwaway line from this abortion of a second season (for lack of any other description). Barry played the Starbuck-esque character, clearly because of his resemblance to Dirk Benedict, chiseled jawline and his feathered hair.

Oh, that square jaw, and that totally 70s hair....

Yes, feathered, blow-dried perfection.

Higher-waist levis gave everyone lovely bulges back then.

Not merely heterosexual, but a prolific BREEDER. Putting one in mind of a stud horse...

In 1974, he married Mary Carey; the couple had 4 children: Carey (born February 25, 1976), Shane (born August 28, 1979), Wes (born October 22, 1984), and Taryn (born June 1, 1986).

Very dated look. shows how standards of beauty change every few decades.

by Anonymousreply 11October 22, 2017 6:16 PM

Not at all. Barry VD is like a fine wine.

I actually thought the grandson who played another doctor on the show was cuter.

He looks like a community college football coach.

Dick van Dyke was extraordinarily handsome: this son, yech.

by Anonymousreply 18October 22, 2017 6:51 PM

Dick Van Dyke. Dick Van Patten. There aren’t enough Dicks in Hollywood anymore.

by Anonymousreply 19October 22, 2017 6:58 PM

Amazingly, I never heard about him. He’s quite handsome! Any nudes?

by Anonymousreply 20October 22, 2017 7:01 PM

I bet there is porn out there of naked men in soot face doing the chimney sweep number.

I’d pay.

I thought he was dead.

by Anonymousreply 27October 22, 2017 10:18 PM

I think someone started a fake Internet rumor about his death earlier this year.

by Anonymousreply 28October 22, 2017 10:42 PM

Handsome, but I don't think I've ever seen anything with him. Perfect candidate for the Speedo-rific Battle of the Network Stars programmes in the late 70s/early 80s.

by Anonymousreply 29October 23, 2017 12:25 AM

R22, Tony was cute--and he knew it!

by Anonymousreply 30October 23, 2017 12:49 AM

Never heard of him but what a hot man.

by Anonymousreply 31October 23, 2017 1:02 AM

I had not thought of him in literally decades. Thanks, OP, for reminding me of how hot he was.

by Anonymousreply 32October 23, 2017 1:20 AM

Glad to know he's still with us. His nonagenarian father is in remarkable shape.

by Anonymousreply 33October 23, 2017 1:33 AM

She's....STILL big!

Recent pic. Still a hot man.

According to (a completely unreliable) internet search, his net worth is $3 million. Not bad, but not stellar for a working actor with a pedigree and a wife and 4 kids.

by Anonymousreply 35October 24, 2017 12:43 AM

That's not a recent pic R35, unless you consider 2008 recent.

by Anonymousreply 38December 3, 2017 9:52 AM

He used to hit me.

by Anonymousreply 39December 3, 2017 9:53 AM

R22, what are his rates?

by Anonymousreply 40December 6, 2017 12:53 AM

I remember him from the syndicated version of Airwolf.

by Anonymousreply 41December 6, 2017 1:13 AM

Is he a top or a bottom?

by Anonymousreply 42December 6, 2017 1:40 AM

He was hot, but had Old Man Lips.

by Anonymousreply 43October 23, 2018 6:58 PM

Yes incredibly handsome man. As for the 3 million net worth- he's Dick Van Dyke's son so...

by Anonymousreply 44October 23, 2018 7:14 PM

Amazing body, but like the awesome Marc Singer (BEASTMASTER), such an unfortunate face.

by Anonymousreply 45October 23, 2018 7:17 PM

He was primarily a TV actor in the 80's and 90's. They didn't pay that much back then.

by Anonymousreply 46October 23, 2018 7:19 PM

What was the line R7?

by Anonymousreply 47October 23, 2018 7:49 PM

Unfortunate face? I thought Barry was extremely handsome.

by Anonymousreply 48October 23, 2018 7:55 PM

[italic] Mary,[/italic] I do declare!

by Anonymousreply 49October 23, 2018 8:26 PM

Wow. Never heard of them but shit, all of them in that family look hot AF.

by Anonymousreply 50October 23, 2018 8:44 PM

I always thought he was very good looking in his 20s-40s-----------also very very good bod for the time period. I liked Grant Goodeve of eight is enough also, I had a thing for the slightly offbeat ones Iguess. Barry Vad Dyke s sons are nice looking as well

by Anonymousreply 51October 23, 2018 8:53 PM

Looks more like Laurette Spang to me, R3.

Jerry Van Dyke

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 53October 23, 2018 9:16 PM

Jerry used to come into my Radio Shack store before I started working there. The sales staff I worked with said that he often spoke of his brother Dick in the most hateful terms. At that time, at least, it seemed he despised him.

by Anonymousreply 54October 23, 2018 10:13 PM

Jerry's daughter Kelly Jean (an adult film star) killed herself. Her husband Jack Nance (a regular in David Lynch projects) was on the phone with her trying to talk her out of it when the power went out at the mountain lodge where he was staying. He was on location filming Meatballs 4. By the time he was able to call for help, she was gone.

He died alone at home a few years later of a head injury sustained while in an alcoholic stupor.

You can't make this stuff up.
