Did anyone listen to Jennifer Lewis on RuPaul’s podcast?
She’s been close with Shangela for years. She told Ru (paraphrasing) “Shangela got voted out the first time she did Drag Race. But that was before I’d had a chance to teach her how you stick around in a show like that!”
Ru changed the subject. So perhaps Shangela makes it far on AS3. Or maybe it means nothing at all.

I don't watch the show, but I am surprised by how low-rent the drag is in that clip. Most of them look like drag queens from the lesser bars in Dothan, Alabama.
Only Trixie Mattel had polish and star quality. Her entrance made the others look like amateurs.

by Anonymous | reply 51 | January 19, 2018 6:45 PM |
R45 "Who would like to meet the queens" screams the presenter.... I think we've already met them.
'Did you guys have a strategy going in, that like, differed from the first time on the show?'
That's a yes-no question. A wh-question would have been more appropriate. Fortunately, the queens are seasoned enough to respond with more than just a confirmation. And to his credit, he's very likable. Maybe he's a young journalist who was probably a little nervous.
R51, I have no connection to any of the Drag Race queens involved so this is only an armchair theory: Katya may have informed Trixie of her current condition and plans before going public. Trixie may have overreacted in-the-moment and said something along the lines of, 'I can't believe you're doing this right now. We just got this show, and now you want to take a break?? What about how this affects me and anyone else involved?' blah, blah, blah. If Trixie reacted like that, she'd certainly be right to have those feelings but it's the worst time to make such a statement. Feelings get hurt and boom, no one's talking to each other.
Not sure if the truth will ever come out either, since WOW has repeatedly had issues with leaks and blow-ups regarding a currently-competing queen. If I were them, I wouldn't want an Alaska-All-Stars 2.0.So far, the queens (including Trixie) have directly or indirectly voiced support for Katya, including in the above-posted youtube interview and here:

As bizarre as it may be, the vast majority of the RuPaul Drag Race fanbase are tween girls and younger.
Madysen and Skylar Blu and Ashleigh Rayn and their young online friends are fickle. Maybe they unfollowed Trixie because she wore last week’s lip color.

by Anonymous | reply 72 | January 22, 2018 10:22 PM |
I like Katya a lot but she has a tendency to fetishize her mental illness. There was always the option to take a short break and not overschedule yourself. Suddenly cancelling all your gigs and filming schedules really screws over a lot of people (especially Trixie) and is extremely unprofessional and a bit of a turn off. I think she pretty much killed her career because it’ll be next to impossible to insure her now.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | January 22, 2018 10:23 PM |
Rewatch Season 3 and have a better time. Who the fuck likes Thorgy Thor and why? Hideous in every way. Katya is a meth addict and clearly mentally ill. I doubt her troubles came as a surprise to Trixie. The rumor is that Trixie wins so Katya took this time off to coincide with Trixie's post show victory engagements.
I like Bendala and Shangela. Trixie is funny but not a drag queen. This not an all stars cast. Kennedy is a fantastic club performer but no one ever gets to see that on Drag Race. Morgan McMichaels should never speak. Chi Chi is still a cutie. Milk is talent free.

That bitch Delta Work. That bitch Raja. That funny bitch Shangela. Sexy Yara Sofia and that epic hair challenge. Fantasia!
by Anonymous | reply 78 | January 22, 2018 10:44 PM |
R78, I agree. I think S3 is still the best one they’ve produced. It’s a shame it wasn’t in HD and didn’t gave better production values.
Thorgy Thor has to be one of the most basic and unoriginal queens to gain a large following. Normally I’d hate that she was on All Stars but she’s rumored to act like a nightmare on this season and receive a villain edit, so I’m happy to see her crash and burn.
Milk seems to have the Alaska slot of the formerly likable queen who let the fame go to her head.

I have a feeling this rush to do AS3 will end up being a mistake. It's not even close to as exciting a line-up as AS2. The only thing that could kick it up a notch is if the surprise contestant is LaGanja, but she has sworn she'd never do the show again.

My ideal boot order is 1) Aja before the opening credits of episode #1 2) Ben 3) Chi Chi 4) Kennedy 5) Bebe 6) Thorgy 7) Shangela with the Top 3 being Trixie, Milk, and Morgan. I don’t really care which one of these three wins.

You've heard the spoilers, right?
Bebe is in the season
Morgan and Chi Chi get a chance/chances to come back.
Ben takes herself out to make room for someone else.
Shangela does very well.
Bebe does very well.
Milk and Thorgy do NOT do well.
Aja gets a redemption treatment, with her humor and intelligence coming out and her looks improved.
Trixie doesn't do as well as expected with the Snatch Game.
Kennedy does inexplicably well, rather like the Roxxxy of the season. But when she's on she's on. And she does some unprecedented "moves" that make Drag Race history.
Thorgy is abrasive (in the limited time she's on).
Trixie wins.

R106. Don't parse my quotes bitch. Thorgy is a clown because she's ugly. She has no camp sense about being ugly. She just can't be pretty. She's a tinsel wig and hairy legs. R108's "contributions":

I doubt her troubles came as a surprise to Trixie. The rumor is that Trixie wins so Katya took this time off to coincide with Trixie's post show victory engagements.
The Thorgy obsession. Katya isn't on All Stars 3, idiot. Trixie offers a unique take on drag and with her other talents and intelligence creates a fresh set route for drag appreciation. And "the rumor" is too obvious to share.
Repetition. A sign of mental illness. Arrogant declarations with nothing to back it up. "Talent-free" requires a hyphen, if an attempt at English is being made.
There's a lot more to enjoy than Raja on Season 3. Some of the best looks and challenges ever. MANILA, the best runway queen ever. Two iconic lip syncs. The boogers and the heathers. And there you have it. Incorrect and lazy language - six errors in a quick review. Starts to sound too invested and shrill, a strange breed of the DL crank. Does not know what the terms "parse," "exhibitionist," and, apparently "drag" actually mean. An ugly and silly poster.
Why bother noting it? I do so because this is the sort of wretch who has three things to say, all of which are interesting, and several opinions that are strong but lacking in any basis except malicious pique. The correct way to say it is with a comma:

I get the feeling that R82 & R83 may be right, and that all the gays telling her how hot she is as a boy has fed her ego, which tends to happen.

Miss Warwick has arrived. Ancient WHITE drag queen from Missouri who likes to correct grammar and thinks itself very progressive. R109 is a RACIST and VERY OLD BITCH. Yes that is miss warwick. The most racist poster on DL. Sometimes she says he is related to the Dehavillande, sometimes he goes on about Matt Damon as emperor of France and for more years than I have been drinking the bitch wrote those gross threads as miss warwick. The most racist and misogynist hate speech in the guise of satire. Old boy talks to himself. He plays all the parts. He has been banned from creating more of THAT particular hate. That's R109 aka Miss Warwick. Bitch is very old and very racist, so watch for his slagging of Shangela and Chi Chi and Kennedy. His is the only mental illness on display. Go back and treat yourself to his angry satire of bodily decay, his fascination with literal shit and his love of BETTE DAVIS and ancient gay camp. Most scat threads are started by him too. Miss Warwick has a fascination for human decay and shit. The bitch is mean and festering. I might have to take action. I repeat myself because I am nuts? Nope bitch. Post as someone else to agree with yourself again.
I don't post from multiple sites to agree with myself. That's for you to do - festering old man. I will repeat myself until you're dead. It won't be long. The poster known as miss warwick is an old WHITE drag queen from Missouri. Currently in a home. Put a frill on your diaper. You're obsessed with shit too. The scat troll. I know you can't bare to be challenged. Believes itself to be some kind of brilliance. So far the poster known as miss warwick is only recognized in cease and desist orders, TWO libel lawsuits and multiple threads talking to itself and answering as black divas. His words are heinous and sick. He hides in what he thinks are progressive threads so he can spread HATE and promote his love of SHIT. Whoa. What is R114 going on about? I like Miss Warwick. Where has she been?
Thorgy looks better in drag than as himself.
by Anonymous | reply 120 | January 24, 2018 2:21 AM |
Miss Warwick threads have been banned for the reasons R114 stated. If you liked them you should ask yourself why.
by Anonymous | reply 121 | January 24, 2018 2:24 AM |
We all agreed that out of drag, Thorgy looks like Skippy from the old Family Ties show..
by Anonymous | reply 122 | January 24, 2018 2:27 AM |
I did a search and found lots of Miss Warwick threads. There's even a new one. Now watch the looney run over there and start the routine.
R114 really does have issues. As well as being ignorant about drag and a racist, ageist and homophobe. Isn't this the one who was threatening to kill other posters? I think I remember a lot of posts being deleted. God, the nuts here.

I like Kennedy. Her taste used to be off sometimes, but poise, dance, looks are all better. An old-school look and vibe, but I like that.

r114 = PPSM
by Anonymous | reply 125 | January 24, 2018 3:07 AM |
Kennedy is definitely a performer from the old school but it did seem like she was getting pass after pass from Ru in season 7. Still have no idea how she won that one challenge when Trixie went home (the first time).
R118, I meant in the context of the show. Season 9 definitely proved that social media presence is not a guarantee of how well you're going to look on a TV series.

IF there is a new miss warwick thread, then watch for it to immediately attack the poster who just called that old bitch out. Then old white warwick will post some others agreeing with IT in simple language (miss warwick is fancy and detailed R109) but the thread will be done in 30 posts or less. That psycho is banned and the rest of her 'fans' have reached enlightenment. Ha. The fans were his very own self, as is R123. He tries to shut things down quick. Racists and misogynists over ran this site I guess for a long time. miss warwick had some gross fun with that. BUT the time has passed for old white men in diapers playing with their old shit. Watch for a flurry of activity tomorrow morning on this thread and some others. Miss warwick will post SHITTY comments calling a man racist or saying I threatened him. She will claim to go blind and say my posts are greyed out. Just like R123! The old racist white man known as miss warwick has no access to the internet at night. That bitch can't find a cure. Don't fuck with me though R109 and R123 and R whatever comes next. You have more than one identity but we have our certainty and the responses to our previous complaints about you "miss warwick." Black men and women despise you here. Enjoy the show. Life is short.

Yes, Kennedy is a quality queen but her style of drag is not hot with today’s fans. She also doesn’t have much of a personality.
Does she perform in clubs? Does she dance and lip sync? That was enough in the 80s but today’s queen needs to offer much more.
by Anonymous | reply 133 | January 24, 2018 3:34 AM |
Most of rupauls drag race fanbase now responds to "quirky" queens who release fun online content. Most of them had never been to a drag show before they started watching this show. A lot of them still the only experience that have with drag is seeing the RuPaul girls when they tour.
I mean if you are going to a drag show, Kennedy being the dancing diva of Texas is the show you want to see.
by Anonymous | reply 134 | January 24, 2018 3:39 AM |
I’ve been to tired old drag shows where the queens pose and lip sync and insult the crowd. That got old fast.
I’d much rather see the Triple A Girls than Kennedy.
by Anonymous | reply 135 | January 24, 2018 4:04 AM |
Thorgy can be best summed up in the first episode of her season during the photo shoot when Mathu asked her to give more, she raised her arms up, and he said “You just put your hands in the air.”
She always acts like she put so much thought into everything she does, which is sad because it’s always the most obvious choices. She’s like Sasha and the other NYC queens who are good at marketing themselves as something they aren’t because they don’t really have any talent.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | January 24, 2018 8:35 AM |

I don’t like Thorgy. The “meet the girls” video showed about a dozen clips of him talking about how hyper-intelligent he is. Annoying as fuck. And if he is a genuis who can’t turn his brain off, why does he seem so unexceptional?
I really liked Chi Chi on her season and thought she deserved to be a finalist.
by Anonymous | reply 142 | January 24, 2018 6:12 PM |
Agreed, R142. Chi Chi had a great underdog storyline. I assume you're inferring that Naomi Smalls took her finalist spot?
by Anonymous | reply 143 | January 24, 2018 6:19 PM |
implying = inferring... brainfart
by Anonymous | reply 144 | January 24, 2018 6:23 PM |
In the meet the queens special, Chi Chi seemed super stoned to the point I was wondering if she was a bunch of xanax or even heroin. The timing was off too. Hope she's okay. Thorgy annoys me with his "I'm so smart" horseshit. Truly intelligent people don't think they're smart. I love Trixie. So many people do that any backlash is going to suck.
by Anonymous | reply 145 | January 24, 2018 6:42 PM |
I remember when it was down to the final four in S8, and wondering who wasn't going to advance to the final three, since it was arbitrary and not strictly based on a challenge.
Bob and Kim seemed a lock to advance, so it was going to come down to Naomi or Chi Chi. I figured because she was such an underdog, that they would go with Chi Chi and eliminate Naomi, but I was wrong.
by Anonymous | reply 146 | January 24, 2018 6:47 PM |
In the group interview when discussing mental health, Chi Chi said that she’s having a hard time. She seemed really fragile and troubled.
by Anonymous | reply 147 | January 24, 2018 7:00 PM |
Good points, R145 and R146.
Someone commented that this round of All-Star Queens came prepared to read. After watching the first fifteen minutes posted at R59, do you guys think that the (writers) producers suggested that they turn up the bitchy?
R147, is it possibly a drag-identity problem or a reality-tv problem?
by Anonymous | reply 148 | January 24, 2018 7:02 PM |
Chi chi def deserved it over Naomi, but by that time, the producers started favoring talentless teen viewers who were all in love with the vapid high fashion queens.
by Anonymous | reply 149 | January 24, 2018 7:06 PM |
She had her moments, but overall, her looks were very mid-class 'exotic dancer' tearaways.
by Anonymous | reply 150 | January 24, 2018 7:08 PM |
My armchair diagnosis is that Chi Chi is in way over her head and is in no way ready to deal with everything that a (relatively) high profile showbiz career entails. It’s a LOT of hard work and it requires fighting through mountains of shit, day after day.
She seems like she enjoys the easy tips that come with dressing up and lip syncing at the local backwoods bar but isn’t hungry enough to make a real career out of it outside of her little town.
by Anonymous | reply 151 | January 24, 2018 7:48 PM |
You're probably right, R151. Have any of the small-town queens had great post-Drag-Race careers?
by Anonymous | reply 152 | January 24, 2018 7:52 PM |
Naomi is a looks queen, and smart, glib, young, sensible, funny with great legs. But I haven't seen her act, and don't know if it's mostly intellectual drag or real performance drag. Chi Chi is rough, should stay rough (although a little more dental work would be welcome), and can give a great show performance.
I never know how much is true about who's over his head and who's got it nailed. Editing. But Chi Chi was brought back and is a fan favorite and conveys an authenticity that can feel like a tonic after so many big-city girls. If I hear one more time about the "friction and philosophical tensions" between Brooklyn and Manhattan queens I'm going to root for bringing Porkchop back.
Not that he'll win.

by Anonymous | reply 155 | January 24, 2018 8:27 PM |
NY and California queens seem to dominate the finalist and winner's circle.
by Anonymous | reply 156 | January 24, 2018 8:33 PM |
I truly believe that the only reason Naomi got Top Three was that the producers loved that stupid story about her upbringing with eleven other siblings and a white mom. I guarantee if she didn’t have that, it would’ve gone to the more deserving Chi Chi.
by Anonymous | reply 157 | January 24, 2018 8:48 PM |
That's possible, R157. Who had better fashion: Chi Chi or Naomi? Chi Chi wins in every other category. She applied the 'make it funny' rule to almost everything, whether acting or lip-syncing.
by Anonymous | reply 158 | January 24, 2018 8:53 PM |
All Naomi cared about was being a human hanger. She was good at posing (kinda) and had decent fashion sense (in regards to bras and panties). But anytime she was required to deliver anything that required talent, she failed miserably. Her lack of ambition was pathetic and she didn’t deserve the top spot.
Chi Chi always had a great sense of humor, a warm personality, excellent lip syncing and dancing ability. I’m sure if she had rich parents like Naomi, she would’ve been able to deliver the same level of fashion, if not more.

R163 I liked Naomi, too. Sweet kid and a good Scarecrow! But I guess I do agree that Chi Chi rounds out all the other categories.
I just realized how much RPDR has changed the lives of its cast compared with Project Runway, ANTM, Idol, etc. So many of them seem to become overnight celebs, not on a grand mainstream scale because it’s drag, but on a pretty grand scale within their niche.
by Anonymous | reply 164 | January 24, 2018 9:47 PM |
It is on a pretty grand scale in comparison, R164. Yet, they also become international celebs within their niche. How many other American Reality TV stars have built-in opportunities to pursue international work, outside of the few reality stars that have appeared on CBBUK? Michelle Visage and Courtney Act come from the Drag Race family. And the Americans that appear as judges on international versions of the Voice have mainstream music careers.

I agree no one's routine this talent show was as memorable as Tatiana (though come on, her routine was iconic), but I'd say Ben's burlesque routine was more memorable than Roxxy's. Overall I'd say this talent show was better. Lots of memorable moments.

I find Thorgy far more charming and appealing in his out of drag bits on the show. The drag persona is off putting but his scattered real self is funnier and more endearing I think.
by Anonymous | reply 193 | January 26, 2018 5:38 AM |
Morgan is the real mother of the L.A. queens. She works seven nights a week at Mary's, makes sure everyone gets booked and lets the out of towners sleep in her house. She lives with her dad. Drinks a LOT but a good guy. He shouldn't have gone first. Bendala came to play though. Eliminate a good overall queen who can never win.
Bendala's strip was the same costume and abbreviated routine of what he did on the BOTS tours a hundred times. But hey it's TV and the viewers are all 14 year olds. Vanessa was fun and Ru got that lip implant repaired. Grade D minus. What a sad troupe. Aja, Thorgy, Milk. Where the allstars at?
I wish Shangela would win. After Alaska won there really can't be another All Star that comes close to making sense. The other contenders were already on. Raven, Jujubee, Alyssa, Detox, Katya. Trixie is not a winner by the old standards of this show. Do a makeup that makes you look pretty bitch. ONCE. They made Sharon and Jinkx do it to win. But Trixie can look like a puzzle piece mask every week? Shangela doesn't need more success and neither does Trixie. But Shangela is the only other All Star they should crown. Woa, when did Trixie gone seedy as a man? He looks 50 and AHS Circus. I dunno, this show won't do.
They are casting for season 11 now. Season 10 is yet to air. I'm done. RuPaul has wholesaled this business into oblivion and sold its soul to instagram. DragCon my ass.
by Anonymous | reply 194 | January 26, 2018 5:43 AM |
Morgan McMichaels may be the “drag mom” of West Hollywood...West Hollywood is a small, insular town and RPDR is a show that airs globally, so all that is invisible to those of us who aren’t LA residents who hang out in the WeHo gay scene. If he doesn’t show on TV what he can allegedly do, then it doesn’t exist for us. It would be bizarre to save him on the TV show because he lets people sleep in his father’s house. What I saw was a lackluster performance from someone with a bad attitude.
I was most excited to see Chi Chi return...what a disappointment. Not sure what happened there, but he was bad all around. I also think Milk deserves to be booted, if only for his superior attitude. I’m not sure how associating with Marc Jacobs made him feel like he’s got this in the bag.
Overall, I thought this episode was great. I was impressed with Aja, not because he jumped off a box—it was just a solid frenetic voguey performance that I didn’t expect from him. I wasn’t as impressed by Ben’s actual performance, but the idea of it was a good break from everyone else’s. I am not looking forward to Thorgy’s “I’m smart!” monologues. Amd I have to say, I don’t really get Trixie. I know he has a lot of fans, but the serious Appalachian-country song with anime princess drag threw me.

I will say Bebe was great in her act, her look was my favorite. Being a returning winner it would be easy to embarrass her legacy but at least for the first episode she was able to show the audience why she was a winner.

I liked Bebe a lot. I saw season one once but I may not have finished it because it was so low rent and the Vasoline lens was hard to look through. So she is basically new to me. I never knew where “CAMEROOON!” came from, so that’s good to know. It’s striking how much she looks like Taraji P Henson sometimes.

Yes season 1 is incredibly low-budget, but I love that season. Everything was so real, no one involved is playing to camera. Shannel was a hilarious mess. All the people involved were just friends of RuPaul having fun.
Idk, there is something to be said for how unproduced it felt.
by Anonymous | reply 201 | January 26, 2018 3:16 PM |
Yeah I definitely recommend getting past the low budget aspect and checking out Season 1 to see where it all began. There were only 8 episodes that season anyway.

I liked the first season too and watched it faithfully from its premier. I adore Trixie, but I knew as soon as she said "Chi Chi and Kennedy are the same queen, Kennedy got sent from the future to tell Chi Chi something." that some folks would have trouble with it. I guess I am the only one that just isn't into Trixie's drag. I get it, but just can't get past her makeup, it really bothers me. As for Milk, I loved him on his season...named a kitten after him, but he does seem to have a bit of an attitude and that may turn me off. I did think his talent was cute and original (for me). I can see why others didn't like it though.

ChiChi Getting 4th place in her season was akin to her winning. She seems more polished, maybe she will go further this time. Naomi won 3rd because of her Wizard of Oz look and the teen fans on social media. I think Ru saw herself in ChiChi.
Hate Milk. Haaate.

Chichi seems more polished now but also less confident, so I think she might not impress as much.

I don't love or hate Trixie's makeup, I just don't care. the only time I genuinely liked him is when he was talking about how his stepfather called him "trixie" as an insult, and that's how Brian got his drag name.
I cannot get excited about a single queen. ChiChi is a disappointment.

There was no untucked for All Stars last year either r220.
Untucked was filmed while the judges deliberated and the queens were backstage. Now it is built into the episode since the queens send each other home.

The shows popularity continues to grow. Last night's premiere was the series high in ratings.
As a comparison with two similar shows, it doubled what Project Runway got in the demo.

Aja’s death drop isn’t so impresssive when you notice that she landed on her feet and then fell into the drop.
Had she landed in drop position, that would have been impressive. But she didn’t. Still a booger.

Even though I'm still a bit surprised that Shangela returned to do AS3 as it seemed that, with her post-RPDR success, she was beyond the show, I'm happy she's back. She makes for great TV.
I love re-watching Season 3 and the role she played in being a thorn in the side of Raja and the rest of the Heathers.

Did Shanj ever learn to sew?
by Anonymous | reply 240 | January 27, 2018 2:07 AM |
I don't hate Shangela as much as I thought I would. But they all are pros and interesting in their own ways.
However, there are two tiers of skill and performance value, whatever people's biases are. Aja, Milk and Chi Chi are not in the same league as the others. Milk may have modeling gigs (as a man) but he just poses otherwise, Chi Chi still doesn't get it for basics, no matter how he can flip, and Aja is one-note and still unfinished in her look and performance. Although I like all of them. Cameroonetta is a bit past it, but they may be holding back there and saving something for later, given how she's rumored to last to the end, or nearly.
And Morgan and Chi Chi both may be back, if the rumors are right. Although Chi Chi isn't even gone yet!
by Anonymous | reply 241 | January 27, 2018 2:13 AM |
Morgan comes back ala Tatiana and does well but does not make top 3.
by Anonymous | reply 242 | January 27, 2018 3:12 AM |
Shangela and Bendala were the top two in my eyes. Chi Chi should have been eliminated but it doesn't matter, it was a good opening. Bendala killed that Minaj lip sync. Kennedy makes me laugh, I just don't know why. Vanessa Hudgens was serving Linda Ronstadt realness. No I'm not THAT old. I still say Ben and Shangela and Bebe are the only All Stars but it was entertaining as fuck.
by Anonymous | reply 243 | January 27, 2018 3:26 AM |
Aja is insufferable. One win and she thinks she's a legend.
by Anonymous | reply 244 | January 27, 2018 12:07 PM |
I was surprised some of these busted queens were on, but everyone was entertaining. This was the best episode in years. BEN and Beebe are fantastic, but for sheer talent and versatility and personality, Shangela is the only clear winner. Absolutely love her, she has JINX level skills. Morgan was good on his season, but man, he seems bitter and hard looking. Looks better as a blonde. I Hope Shangela is truly the next drag superstar!!!!!
by Anonymous | reply 245 | January 27, 2018 1:45 PM |
They should redo All Stars Season 1, you can do the same queens (except Chad Michaels), and just don't do teams this time.
It sucks that the team twist really hampered the first All Stars season. The fans would be happy for it.
Chi Chi should have been eliminated but it doesn't matter
Morgan earned her elimination. By announcing over and over she is going to eliminate the strongest queen she can if given the opportunity, she was telling them to eliminate her. I would have done the same thing Ben did without a second thought.
Like Aja said, if that is your strategy, don't announce it to the other queens.

So, what is the new big twist going to be with the eliminated queens? In the past season, Ru's brought them back and had them face the remaining queens who shaded them. Doing it again would be predictable,
by Anonymous | reply 256 | January 27, 2018 3:15 PM |
I mean we know they are going to be brought back, Chad and Alaska directly talk about that in their little intro. It isn't like they pretending it is a secret twist.

R258 “Save the spoiler for the spoiler thread.” Why can’t you do that? Some of us avoid that information intentionally, and then people just can’t resist doing what you just did. I watched only part of a couple of episodes last year (blech), so I was surprised by how strange-looking Aja is out of drag.
Milk is cunty and arrogant this time around, but I wonder how much of that is production egging it on vs. semi-fame going to his head. He seemed sweet to me on Season 6.

Off-topic, but is there bad blood between Courtney Act and Ru/Michelle?
Michelle has barely acknowledged Courtney being on Celebrity Big Brother, but she's a CBB superfan (and former housemate) who usually live-tweets when it's airing.
I also read that Ru blocked Courtney on Twitter a while back, and Willam said in a blog post that Ru trashed Courtney to Todrick Hall, who turned around and told Willam.

R259 Your post makes zero sense. I simply repeated what someone upthread said and pointed out the spoiler in that piece of information.
Also, I politely asked to keep the spoilers in the spoiler thread and provided the appropriate link. There's no need to have a histrionic meltdown and make this into an argument where there was none in the first place. Everyone was being polite until you started raving like a lunatic.
Anyway, back to the show.

I was watching a YouTube reaction to the latest episode of people in some bar (Thorgy was also there) and those background screams were *all* girls. I wonder what the appeal of drag is for girls. Is it like dolls, but next level? Is there some dirty Freudian rationale behind it?
by Anonymous | reply 269 | January 28, 2018 3:01 PM |
R269 “Girly” girls are hardly any different than drag queens. Not all women are into glam hair, makeup, gowns, etc., and some are drag queens. See: Every Bravo housewife, who can only be differentiated from a RuPaul cast member by pulling down the pants. Beauty pageants are the closest thing women have to drag shows, but beauty pageants are entirely devoid of fun or a sense of humor. I can see why a lot of women would enjoy drag shows: they like the idea of getting all dolled up and having fun and there’s no other virtual outlet for them to do it.

If Thorgy was there, then it was Metropolitan Bar in Brooklyn. It's already a smallish bar with a railroad layout, so the ladies should go watch somewhere else and leave the damn gay bars to us! Unless they are lesbians, of course, then they are more than welcome.

I’m going to defend Raja. I know she has a lot of haters, and she was snot on some of her season (though she reformed), but those saying she’s boring, stupid, or all about her looks haven’t really listened to her. She is really funny on the various WoW show she’s on, especially the photo ru-view with Raven. She’s also smarter than the other queens who’ve tried that stint.
Where some queens will talk in a limited way about liking or not liking something, Raja recognizes the inspiration behind the look. She has some understanding of the the history of fashion and design and can put together an interesting take in the most casual way. I remember her saying that a look had (and I paraphrase) a “Patrick Nagel, Issey Miyake, neon light rippling on a koi pond in Bangkok in 1985 feel” to it. Raven looked at her dumbfounded because it was so bizarre, but it was TRUE. She drew together so many references so perfectly and vividly that it was bound to confuse those who didn’t have the knowledge or imagination to follow. She is also the most likely to spot international costume inspiration, fine art influence, and, for being so supposedly snotty, she is far more laid back and appreciative of the drag she reviews than is Raven. Raja likes beautiful, but she also like weird, kitsch, experimental. Most queens are in a box, at least somewhat, about what they do and like. Raja is not.
She is also hilarious. She was on that show where the queen takes other queens and gay celebrities on car rides. Everyone usually just gets in and says hi. Raja started by putting her head in the car and asking, “Hi honey. Are you a police officer?” And the editors blurred her face and distorted her voice for a few seconds for the joke. I can’t describe it well, but it was really funny. She’s also pretty dirty and self-deprecating on the ru-view.
So writing this much defending a queen (and I am NOT Raja, I promise) is ridiculous, but really, she is so smart and entertaining on her own that she deserves it. Give her stuff a chance. She is one of the best things to come out of Drag Race.

I don't know what is embarrassing about season 1 either. It was the first season of the show I watched and I was a fan.

Morgan bugs me and I am glad he was sent home. I like BDLC because I think he is talented. As others here (and as Aja said on camera), Morgan’s strategy wasn’t stupid or dishonest, but it was pretty stupid to admit to it out loud. BDLC probably is using the same strategy, getting rid of Morgan (who may be competition) and not Chi Chi (who seems to have lost her sense and her past talent, judging by the episode), but she’s not stupid enough to say it aloud. What a way to set oneself up as an enemy of the other contestants *and* to set up a TV narrative of oneself as the villain. I would rather watch someone with a balance of talant and smart manipulation than yet another Wendy Pepper-type reality show contestant who prioritizes sabotage as a means to winning.
I don’t know about other viewers, but I don’t enjoy competition shows like this that focus on “villains.” I watch RPDR and Project Runway primarily for talent and secondarily for personalities. I really hate when some would-be saboteur commands the narrative and distracts from the imaginative roots of the shows.
by Anonymous | reply 300 | January 30, 2018 10:25 PM |
Well you have a point. But shade and sabotage is part of the Drag canon, and thus they can show their talents in those, as well.
by Anonymous | reply 301 | January 30, 2018 10:28 PM |
I like what Bebe told Entertainment Weekly.
“I totally understand where Ben was coming from when she [took issue with Morgan’s desire] to eliminate the stronger queens, because that would be my same strategy. I like to compete with the best…. you never know what challenge will play to your weakness or your strength, and you don’t know who you will need to help you when you’re weak and vice-versa. I don’t think that sending all the strong competitors away is the best strategy, [but if it was my strategy] I wouldn’t say it out loud, honey!”
by Anonymous | reply 302 | January 30, 2018 10:34 PM |
In Episode 1, I thought Morgan was pretty good and didn't deserve Bottom 2. Ben is two-faced and sent him home because he was better than that girl in the dance flats.
I don't understand how anyone can possibly question Ben's decision. Morgan literally said her entire strategy was to eliminate the strongest competition. Ben had just won the mini challenge, the main challenge and the lipsync - thus identifying himself as major competition. Clearly if Morgan was in the top next week he would have eliminated Ben if possible. Ben had no real choice but to eliminate him, it was a no brainer.
Flats?! What the fuck was Chi Chi thinking?
by Anonymous | reply 303 | January 30, 2018 11:36 PM |
What did Trixie say about voting off a popular queen? That it would be career suicide for a queen to anger the fans of a popular queen.
I wonder if that played in Ben’s decision since Chi Chi has more fans than the mostly forgotten Morgan.
After Trixie, which AS3 queens have the biggest fan bases? Probably Milk and Shangela, right? I can’t imagine that Thorgy and Kennedy have huge tween fanbases like some of these other girls.
by Anonymous | reply 304 | January 30, 2018 11:44 PM |
Ben had no choice but to eliminate Morgan. It was a lose lose for Ben tho. That being said, Morgan, I don't understand why people keep praising her and saying she's so fierce, blah, blah, blah.... she lacks that extra umpf to make into the big leagues. Just like Detox.

R307 Except his long explanation also gave him an excuse to say, whether true or not, hey, I won every challenge this week which makes me everyone’s competition, BUT WE ALL AGREED NOT TO ELIMINATE THE BIGGEST THREATS except Morgan, so Morgan’s gotta go. Basically he publicly broadcast an idea that anyone in his position should be protected. Sometimes saying things can plant a seed of influence that other people believe.

Most people here seem to hate Aja because of his face. I think his performance in this episode was outstanding—better than many others overall, with a lot of energy and charisma. He didn’t stand out much in his original season, but I was impressed with his showing in the first episode. I think people are assessing him unfairly because they don’t like his appearance, which is a bummer. This may be the only show on television that celebrates talent despite conventional appearances.
by Anonymous | reply 321 | February 1, 2018 12:37 AM |
Aja does the same schtick as a lot of other queens, such as Kennedy, while looking like utter shit. On top of that, she has a crappy attitude and imagines that she's some sort of raving beauty and a unique talent.
by Anonymous | reply 322 | February 1, 2018 12:42 AM |
Shea had terrible skin too, R321. She was almost universally liked though because she had talent. She dismissing legitimate critiques about her drag as superficial hate.

She = stop
by Anonymous | reply 324 | February 1, 2018 12:43 AM |
Aja is unappealing because of his attitude coupled with his predominantly mediocre performances, last week’s notwithstanding. It’s only made worse by his tacky drag. Personally, I cannot stand looking at him as a boy. I look away, he’s that ugly. In drag, I’m willing to give him a chance, but he has a lot against him.
by Anonymous | reply 325 | February 1, 2018 12:46 AM |
I really thought he was cast because he would be an easy pick to go home first, like Coco in AS2 and Jaymes in S9, so Aja has already exceeded my expectations.
I don't want Aja hanging around for much longer, however.

r316, that was seriously hilarious. I would love if Ru incorporated some more stuff like this into the show, he can really deliver a line and has great comedic timing.
by Anonymous | reply 327 | February 1, 2018 12:56 AM |
The Handmaiden vignettes are fun, too. This show really is a grab bag of non sequitur delights. That’s why I love it. It’s not really even about the contestants’ personalities so much, just imagination and wink-wink wit.
by Anonymous | reply 328 | February 1, 2018 1:00 AM |
Morgan is well liked by most of the Drag Alums especially in LA - but Ben has not done much since the BOTS tour so he probably doesn't know that. That and Morgan pretty much told Ben he would eliminate her if she got the chance...I would have cut her too. Why care about Chi Chi she will self destruct in an ep or two.
by Anonymous | reply 329 | February 1, 2018 1:04 AM |
I liked Chi Chi so much on his original season. :( He looked totally deranged when he did his little dance last week.
by Anonymous | reply 330 | February 1, 2018 1:06 AM |
Looks like that asshole who was playing thread queen is gone. I hate that poster. You see her all over. Calling people idiots just because you disagree. And a racist. Hates whites.
But I'm wondering how many of the rumors are true. Last All Stars was so predictable, except for Roxxxy's being kept when the fans wanted Katya. Then Season 9 threw the surprise in with the three-way finale and Sasha winning, which no one really expected.
So I'm wondering if the producers/Ru are going to do it again and not give it to Trixie, but give it to Bebe or Shangela.
Poor Chi Chi doesn't seem to have improved. Ben has. Aja, I suppose, has, but I still don't get her aesthetic and she just seems very messy and undisciplined. It takes more than dermabrasion and chinplants, although his personality comes through well. Shangela shows no change. Neither does Morgan. Trixie's more confident but I'm a big fan.
And Bebe is misplaced. Ru will keep her to make a point but she's so limited and we've seen those looks before, except the walk-in ensemble, which was rather heavy if beautiful.
'nuff of me!
by Anonymous | reply 331 | February 1, 2018 1:18 AM |
I think people forget the first few seasons (up to 4 i think) the prize was only 25K. So Bebe - even winning only got 25K.

Morgan is also an “old school” queen who can command the stage in the rowdiest dive bar. She isn’t sweet like Tati or artsy like that bald white guy. Morgan is scrappy and glamorous and funny like the best drag queens of yore.
As you can tell, I dig her, but I understand why tween girls would find her “mean.”
by Anonymous | reply 333 | February 1, 2018 1:24 AM |
It's crazy that Morgan doesnt have a Scottish accent. I wonder how hard it is suppress it. I also wonder how long and what process they used on Aja's face.
by Anonymous | reply 334 | February 1, 2018 2:17 AM |
Aja had a chemical peel. They basically melt off about 20 layers of skin and then fillers in the deep pock marks.
by Anonymous | reply 335 | February 1, 2018 2:53 AM |
Tom White (Morgan) does have quite a language skill, because Scots is not easy to blend out into what sounds nearly like a mid-American accent with international (interplanetary?) gay overtones. The family moved to the US when he was 15, but his mother is American and people do tend to model their mother's speech the most.
by Anonymous | reply 336 | February 1, 2018 3:10 AM |
R332, poor Bebe only got $20,000 in cash, with the other $5,000 coming in makeup/accessories valued at that amount.
In Season 2 the cash award bumped to $25,000 and the additionals (junk, contract) were added to it.
by Anonymous | reply 337 | February 1, 2018 3:14 AM |
Tom White is sort of cute. Is he mentally healthy and not an addict?
by Anonymous | reply 338 | February 1, 2018 3:44 AM |
I have bad acne scars...probably not as severe as Aja’s, but not far off. I am almost 40, and since my mid-20s, I’ve had five microdermabrasion treatments (made no difference in scarring), four Fraxel laser resurfacings and then one ablative laser resurfacing. The lasers improved the scarring because they rebuild collagen, but I’d estimate around a 60 percent improvement. Not perfect at all. I then did Belotero filler from a cosmetic surgeon, who also did some minor subcision with the needle, and it *really* improved the scarring—almost completely erased it. Lots of people commented on how good my skin looked. But I had to take photos for my job and I was horrified when I saw them...the relatively light filler totally changed the shape of my cheeks to the extent I almost didn’t recognize myself in the pictures. So I called it quits. My face ate up the filler about six months after it was injected and I stopped doing anything after that. I don’t really care anymore.
It does make me sad to see people viciously attack anyone like Aja over his complexion, though, or Ari from Project Runway. People who have acne or other scarring certainly do not want it, did nothing to deserve it, couldn’t do anything to prevent it, and walk around knowing people are “offended” by their faces, which causes all sorts of behavioral problems stemming from shame and anxiety. I’ve spent thousands of dollars trying to “fix my face,” and it’s just a really shitty curse from life. At this point I am not self-conscious about it and I have zero respect for adults who condemn or mock people because life scarred them.

Bebe only received 10k.
The winning prize was 20k. 10k from one sponsor, 10k from another. She only actually received the money from one of them, she has talked about this in interviews.
by Anonymous | reply 340 | February 1, 2018 11:44 PM |
R339, I don’t mind his scarring. I mind the things he willingly did to himself like the giant, grotesque holes in his stretched ears and his nasty attitude.

by Anonymous | reply 342 | February 1, 2018 11:49 PM |
Aja also suffered facial burns when she was 13, by putting an ice cube in a deep fat fryer. So no, I'm not going to say anything about her facial scars, but I will criticize her drag being a mess and her attitude being bigger than her talent. But yes, the gross gauges (how was/is this ever a thing?) and the septum piercing don't help.

Agreed. Ignore everything else, she fucked up the actual lip synching a lot. She was an obvious bottom.
I will say Thorgy was right. They tried to edit it as Thorgy being crazy, but some roles are set up to be better than others. Shangela had a funny role in its design. Ben had a funny role in its design. And look, shocker, they both ended up being the top two.
Anyway, Bob must be upset Thorgy is gone. That was great publicity for him since Thorgy never got over him.

For sure, he started out trying, but halfway through he was worried he might actually win and wanted to make sure Shangela did. He clearly did not want to be responsible for sending home another girl.
Ru is not going to appreciate that lack of a fire.

I thought Ben was pretty funny, especially when he started copying Shangela's moves.
by Anonymous | reply 367 | February 2, 2018 4:18 AM |
R367 I thought it was kind of funny, too, but it’s a guaranteed way not to win. There is no way to win by doing a shoddy version of what the person who is actually trying is doing. It was risky. RuPaul has eliminated both finalists before for not trying. Ben may be my favorite among this group but phoning it in like that is disappointing.
by Anonymous | reply 368 | February 2, 2018 11:10 AM |
I didn’t think he was phoning it though. It looked like he couldn’t keep up physically but instead of giving up, he took a risk and tried to rely more on comedy than moves (where a girl like Shangela shines brightest). I thought it was very funny the way she did it but I still would’ve given it to Shangela.
by Anonymous | reply 369 | February 2, 2018 1:40 PM |
Thorgy is old enough to realize that Drag Race is a TV show and not some sort of objective assessment of the capabilities of drag queens. When you sign up for a reality show, you are at the mercy of producers and editors. Just hold on, have fun, and maximize the value of the exposure that an international hit show gives to your career.
This show owes her nothing. She “deserves” nothing. Thorgy is obviously an idiot and idiots are no fun to root for.
Bye, bitch.
by Anonymous | reply 370 | February 2, 2018 2:02 PM |
Well said r370.
Thorgy isn't wrong, but at the end of the day you can't honestly expect everything to somehow be completely fair. You just have to do your best and make the most out of the TV exposure.
by Anonymous | reply 371 | February 2, 2018 2:14 PM |
Thorgy gives me the creeps, sort of, but I still like her better than Milk or Aja!
I don't understand this whole thing about Trixie being a "star"--I didn't even remember her much from her season.
I loved Chi Chi on her season, but she's not impressing me this go around and seems pretty lost.
Shangela and Ben are the top choices--I like them both for different reasons and would be happy with either winning.
I don't understand this whole thing about Trixie being a "star"--I didn't even remember her much from her season.
Well yes, she didn't do particularly well on Drag Race. But that is just a TV competition, she did become one of the most popular queens around after the show. Definitely one of the "stars" to come out of the show.

by Anonymous | reply 374 | February 2, 2018 2:55 PM |
Milk is fucking weird. The crying? The whining? The unfunny bitchiness? So unattractive. Ben knew he was beat the second Shangela pulled out the jump rope. His comedy saved the performance and made him evenly matched with Shangela.
by Anonymous | reply 375 | February 2, 2018 3:03 PM |
In the regular season, I just thought Milk was weird. I didn't realize what a whiny bitch he is too. For being one of the best looking out-of-drag queens on the show, he sure seems to feel quite oppressed. His Celine was awful and his cocktail party dress was something you could get at a store & stick some pins on. I thought he was going to be in the bottom.
I didn't think the Janet impression was that bad - given the makeup and costume, but I know her dance moves are much different. That being said, all Bebe did was stand there and smile (to top 3), yet Thorgy got sent home for not doing enough. Thorgy's neurotic personality is annoying though. I'm glad she was sent home instead of the other one.

Shangela, Trixie and Bendela all walked into this season as the most obvious contenders for the crown.. They know it, the other queens know it.

R36 - I am still not over the death of Delores O'Riordan! It's scary to think now that anyone under 25 probably has no idea who they are I guess... yikes.
Trixie is the funniest one in ages... and it's much more subtle than someone like Bianca. If you watch UNHHHH on YouTube (her show with Katya) or Viceland - it's hilarious. It's better on TV in the Viceland format because YouTube videos aren't put together as well.

I've said this before here, but as much as Lucian Piane fails as a human being, he was so much better than Todrick at creating these musical numbers. It is unfortunate.
You look at Todrick's numbers and they just aren't as fun and entertaining as when Lucian's fucked up ass was making them.
by Anonymous | reply 380 | February 2, 2018 7:30 PM |
I assume that Todrick (dumb name) is either a nepotism hire or fucking a producer. No other explanation for his appearances on the show.
Milk also has a popular web series where he shows off his considerable make up talents. It also shows off his funny personality. He’s hot and he knows it but he has a sense of humor about it all. The snippets of him on Drag Race don’t do him justice, IMO.
by Anonymous | reply 381 | February 2, 2018 7:48 PM |
I mean Todrick Hall was an obvious choice to replace Lucian. He makes fun, campy music numbers for a living.
But like I said, we have seen a couple of his numbers on the show now (Kardashian the Musical and now this Diva medley) and they just aren't that great for me.
by Anonymous | reply 382 | February 2, 2018 7:51 PM |
Todrink appeals to the teenage girl demographic this show is chasing these days...

by Anonymous | reply 384 | February 2, 2018 7:55 PM |
I really liked the badass Julie Andrews Todrick came up with (and Ben performed so well). I’ll remember that part of the performance.
I also don’t think Shangela is an underdog by any means. She has lived with and was groomed by actress Jenifer Lewis, who is insane and insanely talented. RuPaul and Michelle dedicated much of their interview with Lewis to discussing her mentoring of Shangela. So Shangela has a wealthy veteran actress-singer as a surrogate mother, which gives her a huge leg up on probably every other drag queen. Shangela was given a chance one season, was voted off, and then was invited back for another season. Now she is on All Stars. RuPaul has given Shangela more TV and podcast time than probably any other contestant. I don’t see how anyone can consider her an underdog.
by Anonymous | reply 385 | February 2, 2018 10:50 PM |
Jenifer Lewis and Shangela apparently even have their own YouTube account!

by Anonymous | reply 390 | February 3, 2018 1:37 AM |
When did Milk say he’s a “fashion diva”?
His chosen profession is performer and he’s doing pretty well at that. Why would he want to do something soul sucking like PR?
He’s been in a long-term relationship for years.
Why are you projecting all these weird assumptions on a person you’ve never met?

I recently watched some of Milk’s original season and he was fine. He was kind of obnoxious and insecure but didn’t stand out as a dick. In the two All Stars episodes so far, he’s a dick. There’s no excuse for any adult to behave the way he has behaved in these eps. I hope he turned it off as the season went on.

Rewatching episode two, and I also rewatched a few old ones including when Ben played Maggie Smith. I’m sure many will disagree, but IMO Ben is the best of the best of the best. He’s got a different skill set than Jinx, but he is consistently great at most of what he does. The makeup and costumes are almost always great. His wit is different than but as sharp and quick as Bob’s and Bianca’s, but less caustic and so a little less showy. No matter what the challenge, he makes it funny in a way that’s not awkward or forced (which is the case with many of the others). He can do camp and glam, often at the same time.
I also think Shangela is very talented and has a lot of personality, but Ben IMO is more seasoned and natural and just rises to the top. That may not hold as the season goes on, but I am really impressed. To do a crotchety old Maggie Smith with a spot-on accent and spot-on makeup and improvised bon mots as well as a prim hiphop-swagger Julie Andrews that are both funny, recognizeable caricatures and pretty much beyond criticism is a unique talent. Shangela is funny and glammy and dances well but I don’t remember anything as distinctive from her as those performances. Plus I feel like she benefits from some producer favoritism, having been on two regular seasons plus All Stars.

R396 I’m tired of divisive politics. Instead of making this political (alt-right people use the term “special snowflake” to refer to any liberal person when convenient), why can’t we just call it as it is: The Milk is spolied. He’s an ass. He feels entitled to special treatment beyond what he has earned. He’s a whiner.
I am almost 40 and so I am GenX, I guess, and I’ve known plenty of entitled and whiny Millennials—mostly 10-15 years ago—but I’ve known more who are not entitled or whiny. I don’t think generational or political labels should be used here, just individual labels. Milk has proven this season to be a total asshole, and it’s perfectly within any viewer’s right to dislike him. He introduced himself bragging about knowing Marc Jacobs, and then he gave two poor performances in poorly designed costumes and whined that he should have won. He’s delusional. Spoiled fucking Milk. I get that people hate Aja, but from what I’ve seen Milk has made himself more of an annoyance than Aja has. Get rid of him.

Performance-by-performance review with the sound off:
1. I would never know Milk is supposed to be Celine Dion.
2. I can sort of see Janet Jackson in Kennedy’s costume and the choreography, but she is not dancing at all like Janet.
3. Aja’s makeup and wig are reminiscent of Amy Winehouse. Her movements have nothing at all to do with Amy Winehouse. Having already seen the episode, though, I will give Aja this: Amy Winehouse is as non-gay-dance-diva as Stevie Nicks is, and Aja didn’t make all the whiny excuses that Thorgy did. Still, Aja probably belonged in the bottom for not embodying Amy W at all with her body language IMO. His dance and facial expressions were more Lady Gaga.
4. With no sound, Chi Chi is obviously being Patty LaBelle, although the hair has everything to do with it. He does capture her body language perfectly during moments of the performance, and at other times moves like Chi Chi or could be mistaken for a Tina Turner impersonator.
5. Trixie...erm, I get Dolly Parton, but it’s far more stylized and draggy than some of the other diva costumes. To out-drag cartoon Dolly Parton is an accomplishment of a kind. I feel like Trixie is too high energy and dances too much while performing to really come across as Dolly, but on the other had I guess as a drag performance that is required. Overall good job, and I guess I give Trixie some credit for not doing an avant garde cubist makeup mess.
6. With the sound off, I don’t really get Mariah much from Shangela. I think it’s because their features are so different. Her body language is good. It just doesn’t really translate as Mariah to me. Still entertaining, though.
7. Thorgy looks like drag Stevie Nicks. If he designed the outfit, he hit the nail on the head. The dancing is Stevie, too. Hmm. Watching this back without sound I am sympathetic to Thorgy and I don’t feel like he was whining unreasonably. His Stevie Nicks impersonation is actually really good. What else could he have done to satisfy the judges?
8. Ben doesn’t look like Julie Andrews in the face, but between the costume and especially the body language he reads Julie Andrews loud and clear. The prissy hiphop dancing is really funny even with no sound.
My verdict: The judges were wrong this week. Thorgy (who I frankly dislike watching) did the very best anyone could have done with Stevie Nicks. Aja was a bad Amy Winehouse and should have been in the bottom, but Amy was frankly a poor choice for a drag diva (at least with the dancing that was required—Amy Winehouse was a drunken blues singer, not a pop star who pranced around!), and Milk should have been sent home because his Celine Dion in no way resembled Celine Dion.
by Anonymous | reply 400 | February 3, 2018 1:49 PM |
Celine’s movements and body language are really distinctive. Milk should have been able to embody her if he had access to footage of her.
by Anonymous | reply 401 | February 3, 2018 1:54 PM |
The choreography Aja had to do as Amy Winehouse totally took away from the characterization. Amy stood at a mic and swayed. She never would have done Britney Spears-style “chair dancing” with shirtless guys. I’m annoyed by Todrick’s direction with that one. It really disrespects the type of artist Amy Winehouse was. If they needed an over the top diva, they could have gone with Britney, Christina, Katie Perry, Madonna, Kylie Minogue, so many other options.

The contestants must be asked to bring certain things or are asked certain questions in advance of taping the show because they have to know what to bring with them. They were probably asked to bring their favorite diva costume but weren't told how it would be used which would explain Thorgy's disappointment. He probably thought he'd be doing Stevie in more of a Snatch Game scenario, not lip syncing to someone else's vocal parody and existing track. I also believe they are sent all the songs they may to lip sync to in the battles before any of the season starts filming.
by Anonymous | reply 403 | February 3, 2018 2:02 PM |
Ha R403, I was literally just writing that very same thing when you posted!
It did seem as if they were allowed to choose their own diva too, rather than being assigned. They all knew they were going to be using the diva outfit but just didn't know exactly what the challenge was. Knowing how the show works they should have been prepared for anything and studied the performances of their divas. Absolutely no excuse to not get their diva right.

Courtney Act was voted the winner of Celebrity Big Brother UK last night, beating out elderly homophobe and former Conservative MP Ann Widdecombe in a landslide. S/he had a showmance in the house with Andrew Brady, a former contestant on The Apprentice UK.

I love Ben, but what was with the wig he wore as Julie Andrews? When did Julie have that style or color of hair? Surely not in her two iconic roles in Sound of Music or Mary Poppins.
AND NOT ONE JUDGE MENTIONED IT. WTF?
by Anonymous | reply 406 | February 3, 2018 2:16 PM |
For sure. They obviously already knew what Diva they were playing, because they were asked to bring a costume for that diva. So yes, no one has an excuse for not being prepared for how to portray them.
by Anonymous | reply 407 | February 3, 2018 2:18 PM |
And congrats to Courtney Act. The winners are based on voting right? The Rupauls fanbase turned out.
Great honor for her and the show. Also she has guaranteed herself to be the first call for AS4 if she wants to come back.

Oops. I neglected to review Bebe. With the sound off, Bebe embodies Diana Ross. She may not have done a lot dancewise, but that’s fitting (as it would have been with Amy Winehouse). Her movements and her facial expressions really do convey Diana Ross, and of course the costume and the wig are unmistakeable. Bebe did a solid job.
by Anonymous | reply 409 | February 3, 2018 2:21 PM |
Ben didn't look like Julie Andrews, he looked like Joyce Bulifant!

Yep, viewers evict and vote on the winner in BBUK/CBBUK—you can't vote outside the UK and Ireland, though, so the UK contingent of the RPDR subreddit took PayPal and proxy-voted for members in the US and elsewhere.
by Anonymous | reply 411 | February 3, 2018 2:26 PM |
I would have been Aja in the top three over Bebe.
She did a great drag-version of Amy Winehouse, she made it funny, which is really what the challenge is all about. And she had the best "rudemption" on the runway, she took her awful Princess Disastah look and made it gorgeous.

Ugh. I really disliked Courtney Act on his season. I rewatched some of it recently and he wasn’t quite as bad as I remembered, but his arrogance still turns me off. He was an asshole to Jocelyn, who was green but very sweet and didn’t deserve to be kicked around the way Courtney did.
I confess that I also just don’t like Courtney’s forced smiles and generally artificial attitude, and I unfairly hold it against him that he resembles Derrick Berry, who I ***really*** could not stand. I almost stopped watching Berry’s season just because he was such an asshole. For some reason I always confuse Courtney and Derrick and I think part of my dislike of Berry is that confusion.

I think the selection criteria for All Stars is
1) Available and will to work for the time and money offerred
2) Sane enough and healthy enough to stay on the show until kicked off.
3) Social media following and personal relationships with producers
4) talent and charisma
in order of importance

The editors tried to pretend like Courtney Act was a bitch for the sake of drama, but really she wasn't. Her main problem is she was too low key a personality for reality TV. You need to be a "big personality", so she sorta faded into the background.

Chad Michaels
Courtney Act
Derrick Berry
The first time I saw Chad, and it was before he was on the show, I thought he was quite creepy and pathetic. But on the show I liked him quickly enough. The other two just stayed creepy.

R416 Most likely about right, but nevertheless the majority of this cast is impressive so far. Chi Chi is the one I was most looking forward to and has been the greatest disappointment...but Ben, Bebe, Shangela, Trixie and (yes, sorry) Aja have been consistently entertaining. Milk is a Milk Dud. Kennedy is sort of milquetoast. Thorgy and Morgan’s personalities always annoyed me, but they’re gone so no complaints from me about them at this point.

by Anonymous | reply 421 | February 3, 2018 2:38 PM |
R418 I don’t know. I think Courtney’s ego is a problem, at least for my taste. He came in and bragged about winning Australian Idol...OK, fair bragging rights, I guess. But his singing wasn’t really that Idol-worthy IMO—certainly better than the average drag queen but not Kelly Clarkson caliber—so his bravado felt unearned. More annoying than that, he kept saying he is the RuPaul of Australia and therefore deserves to win. That really fucking bothered me. He was a contestant on RuPaul’s show saying he is RuPaul’s peer—which he is not in the US. It felt ungrateful to me. If he is RuPaul to Australia, he should build his empire in Australia. So those are two points of bragging than felt unearned to me: I am Australia’s Kelly Clarkson (hardly) and I am Australia’s RuPaul (begging RuPaul to award him the win on a reality show?? Hardly RuPaul’s peer.). And then he constantly insulted cute little Jocelyn, who was star struck by him. No one wants to see a famous person behave ungratefully toward a fan, even if they are competitors. It was more than a bitch edit. Derrick Berry seems like a legit bitch of a sort that Courtney Act doesn’t, but Courtney does seem egotistical, entitled and most of all ungrateful and that really turns me off. I don’t want to see Courtney win anything because Courtney walked into the competition resting on her laurels and feeling superior to everyone else. If you’re that great, go build an empire instead of degrading your supposed talents on a basic cable reality show.

Folie de grandeur should be put on, for the most part, in a drag queen. Not a truly deluded identity.
by Anonymous | reply 423 | February 3, 2018 2:49 PM |
TL:DR version of R422
Courtney Act claims to be Australia’s RuPaul. RuPaul is globally famous, made drag mainstream, and is iconic to every drag queen alive today. RuPaul created a successful, smart and creative reality show that has made careers for dozens of people, and has oriented mainstream viewers with camp sensibility.
Courtney Act, meanwhile, has won two reality shows and lost RuPaul’s reality show. Courtney claims—on RuPaul’s show!—to be RuPaul’s equal, but in reality is a drag Omarosa, just a professional reality show character who has made one one thousandth of the impact on pop culture that RuPaul has.

by Anonymous | reply 425 | February 3, 2018 2:53 PM |
R425 No, and I recognize that a lot of homos who are into drag are also into mean girls and cattiness, etc., but I am not and I’m turned off by Courtney Act, Derrick Berry, Milk et al. I don’t expect everyone to feel the same way. But I love this show because it is so creative—the contestants can perform and make costumes and do makeup and often are funny—and the design of the show is imaginative, often just totally random with nods to old Hollywood and obscure gay culture references. So I love the ingredients and I watch for the fun of it. Nasty contestants make the show much less fun for me. I do realize some people watch for “the drama,” but any show like this or Project Runway to me is a rare opportunity today to witness the creative process and I loooooooove that and “drama” is an unwelcome distraction from it for me. That’s all. But I know the parts I dislike are the appeal to some other viewers.

On one hand I'm thrilled that Courtney won CBB against that old dragon, but I too remember her being a low-key cunt on S6—not just her shadiness to Joslyn Fox (my favorite filler queen!) but her defensiveness about being critiqued and her "resting on pretty." Her fans on the RPDR subreddit gushed about how sweet and humble and lovable she was in the BB house, but it rang kind of false knowing that she wasn't all that warm and fuzzy on Drag Race. I don't think she's a terrible person, though, just a typical entitled millennial.
by Anonymous | reply 432 | February 3, 2018 4:59 PM |
Too entitled, R432. I really can’t get over her calling herself the RuPaul of Australia. If she is going to claim that, then she needs to go out on her own and prove it by creating an empire that she controls instead of just getting cast on other people’s reality shows. Bah.

Someone posted on Twitter a theory I think makes sense: (going with The Handmaid’s Tale theme) Bebe is a mole. She’ll be unveiled as such at the end and “help” Ru pick a winner based on backstage observations. This way, Bebe gets exposure that didn’t exist at the time, she doesn’t win twice, nor does she mar her win with a loss. She shows up, is fierce, is safe each challenge, and gains a new generation of fans.

Someone here presented a “theory” about the season closer of Game of Thrones in which Cersei blew up the Sept. I thought I was reading a fun, clever fan theory and it turned out to be a shot-for-shot telling of the episode that hadn’t aired yet. It ruined the suspense of a really great episode, and I still resent DL for it. People need to be more respectful.

Plenty of other things I've seen him do on his own videos are really good, he blocks his stuff well when he's the one directing the camera moves. I wish the crap editing and camera work would be brought to the producers attention because it ruing my enjoyment of everything on the runway.

r433 you know RuPaul has been around for a looooong time. Most of that time he was not the producer of Drag Race he was just well known drag queen trying to make a dolla in America.
Courtney calling herself the RuPaul of Australia is okay because she is the most well known drag queen from Australia. But if you NEED to hate on her please continue to do so.
by Anonymous | reply 459 | February 4, 2018 2:29 AM |
Oh r433 also it could be argued that Courtney is presently creating her brand. She has performed all over the world and continues to do so. She has music and several reality shows on her resume. And in these times YouTube channels makes stars of people you've never heard of. There is a girl who has a YouTube channel and she has 11million subscribers and makes a couple million dollars a year. Courtney has her own YouTube channel she only has 227,000 subs but that probably makes her in the tens of thousands if they are monetized.
For Australia Courtney is a major star as a drag queen so I think it's all right for her to make that claim.
by Anonymous | reply 460 | February 4, 2018 2:36 AM |
For everyone shitting on Courtney and the "I'm the RuPaul of Australia." comment here is where that came from. This was one year ago and now someone is dragging it out again now that she has won Big Brother UK. Clearly someone just wants to push this to create some bullshit. It was said a year ago to no great reaction.
Why can't we just let our sis enjoy her win?
Below is taken from Reddit thread "RuPual of Australia"
"the RuPaul of Australia" self.rupaulsdragrace
submitted 1 year ago by AlaskaThunderfcvkr/rupaulsdragrace's brand ambassador
Probably a shitpost or whatever, just needed to get this off my chest. I was watching a video yesterday of the BotS Snatch Game on one of the Australian dates, where 'Willam as Courtney' made a joke about Courtney's segment in her final three speech, where Courtney refered to herself as 'the RuPaul of Australia'. Michelle laughed her ass off on BotS and repeated it with laughter. I know that also on this sub that statement is met with laughter.
However I just don't understand why that is. I don't know how widely known this is, but after Courtney signed with Sony in 2003 her debut single 'Rub Me Wrong' entered the top 40 and peaked at #29 on the Australian charts. For reference, RuPaul's 'Supermodel' peaked at #42 on America's charts in 1992.
Also, like Supermodel, 'Rub Me Wrong' had a high producten value video that was very often played on Australia's MTV. (It was 2003, so Potato Quality)
Hence I don't get the controversy around that statement. Which other Drag Queen Musician in Australia reached that kind of mainstream exposure? She's not saying she's as big as Ru. Just that in Australia, she would've been the closest thing. And I don't see who else could've been called that.
by Anonymous | reply 461 | February 4, 2018 2:45 AM |
Courtney is free to call herself anything she wants. As far as the "RuPaul of Australia" comment goes, she's purposely slapping Ru because Ru took it as a personal insult when she asked Courtney why she doesn't shave her brows and Courtney said, "Because I still have a sex life."
Ru blocked her on social media and Courtney has been MIA on just about everything to do with Drag Race. She won't play the game unless it seems worth it to her, and so her remarks are a smack at Ru as a dare for the big ol' control-freakish, brittle, arrogant and full-of-herself queen of all drag to say something.
Which she won't, because she knows what free publicity is worth in a drag cat fight.

I met Courtney before she got on RPDR at a show - She spent 2 hours after the show meeting and talking to everyone who stayed to meet her. She took pics with everyone - was really nice and friendly. She has a very dry wit that can come off as condescending but she is really very nice and sweet and has used what fame she has gained to advance LGBT causes. She is very political and stands up for what she believes in. Ru may have blocked her but she still wears Wigs by Vanity - Courtney is half owner in that.

by Anonymous | reply 472 | February 4, 2018 1:34 PM |
I think it was after the season, R471. Courtney said she didn't mean anything personally to Ru and was making a general comment. Of course Ru seems rather browless and took it as directed at her, and that was that.
I suspect that the more potent reason behind RuPaul's cutting Courtney was Courtney's smart and thoughtful comments on Ru's first reactions to trans people complaining about "Shemail." Courtney questioned the trans response but said that since she wasn't part of a group of which 1 in 12 people appeared to be victims of homicide it seemed humane to be respectful and responsive. Courtney is very bright and a good communicator.
Ru accepts no real criticism of any kind. She can take a joke but if she thinks there's any substance behind a dig she comes down hard to protect her brand and her "place." There are a lot of examples, but the Courtney one is interesting because Courtney just laughs and shrugs.

“The shemail controversy...” so sad.
I am a great defender of trans inclusiveness with the LGBT community, and I’ve had many debates with other gay men about it and have even published opinion pieces about it. I also have a sense of humor and can differentiate between pejorative usage and playful, innocuous usage. There should not have been a “shemail controversy.” People need to chill out just a little and realize who is an enemy intent on hurting them and who is not. And then if people really felt offended and enough told RuPaul, then OK, fine, the guy is clearly creative enough to replace “shemail” (which was IMO a punny-funny spin on ‘Tyra Mail’ from ANTM) with something else and just do it without making so much of it. Ugh. People are so intent on getting their ways that they really lose sight of what they are fighting for.
by Anonymous | reply 476 | February 4, 2018 5:15 PM |
I always took "shemail" as fun wordplay as well rather than a slam on anybody. (Lady Bunny used it on her website/blog for years, and she's one of the least anti-trans people I can think of.) I think the bigger controversy was the "Female or Shemale?" quiz, which caused "You've Got She-Mail" to get caught in that net.

And now instead of taking away the power from the word "shemale" by appropriating it from the haters and disarming it with humour, we're back where it's considered a slur again. Good luck with that.
I heard some rumblings last year on the AV Club that the concept of drag itself is dated because it's transphobic and deeply misogynistic. I'm sure they'll take this whole show away from us before soon and shame us all for ever having watched it at all. And while we're all fighting each other, The Handmaid's Tale is slowly being made a reality in D.C.
by Anonymous | reply 480 | February 4, 2018 5:31 PM |
I certainly side with RuPaul on the “shemail controversy,” but I have also heard RuPaul kind of go off defensively when people mistakenly assumed he was transgender. I mean, he put himself in a pretty high liability field if he is that sensitive about people mistaking him for a “tranny” or a “crossdresser”—both terms he has used humorously. Like, if I wear makeup and a dress, I am pretty sure I would understand people’s confusion. I am not 100% sure but I think the fight he had on the View years ago with Joy Behar was something like that...she misunderstood the way he presents himself or made a joke about a man in a dress and RuPaul’s fuse went off. As RuPaul would say, “She DO got a tempa!” But at least he admits that he is a hermit who has little tolerance for people and is at his best when left alone, aside from the job.

Yeah, this has been blathered about on twitter and the other usual suspects.
Just because 50 trannies have an opinion, the whole fucking gay community doesn't have to bow down for fuck's sake...

Oh and since when is drag misogynistic against women? Since the trans started trying to convince women that it is?
Back in the "old days" of female impersonators in Vegas (mostly) - people loved it. More than half the audience was straight women, and their straight husbands even liked it. It's just performance ffs.
Oh and since when is drag misogynistic against women? Since the trans started trying to convince women that it is?
This argument has been around a long time. Long before trans became part of the mainstream. Just because some women are into drag, doesn't mean they all are. And many straight men find it extremely off putting.

Okay, just caught up with both episodes. At first I didn't recognize half the people on there.
Was sad to see Morgan go. She's way more talented and has a much better look than Chi Chi.
Dear god, she's a hot mess. That neon green leotard with the fringe was beyond horrid.
Poor Thorgy.
I'm loving Ben DeLa Creme.
I'm liking the idea someone posted above about Bebe Zahara Bennet. Why would she be back? She already won. It's more than likely Ru wants her to get more exposure so she can cash in like most everybody has done. I loved her look in the talent show. She's also weirdly silent in most talks when they wait for the judges to ruminate.
Don't care about Courtney at all.
by Anonymous | reply 485 | February 4, 2018 5:47 PM |
Joan Rivers used to have them on her talk show all the time. I watched as a teenager. She always called them “female impersonators” instead of drag queens.
Speaking of Joan, why doesn’t anyone on Drag Race (or the show itself) ever make references to her? Bianca could have done a great Joan in Snatch Game because he is so quick witted and lovably mean.
by Anonymous | reply 486 | February 4, 2018 5:49 PM |
Joan also sued her "female impersonator" for 5 million dollars in the 80s! I forgot the exact outcome but they resolved it.
I don't get this "some people don't like" or "some people are bothered by" bullshit. I don't like football. I find it very annoying. I don't like the noise coming from the TV of people watching football. It's the superbowl now, and it's all everyone is talking about and I couldn't care less. Does this mean I should start banning it because I don't like it and I always sucked at it? It's very triggering to me to see athletic muscular masculine straight football players, something I'll never be... not even with surgery.
by Anonymous | reply 487 | February 4, 2018 5:55 PM |
R487 I don’t like football either! Let’s start a movement to shame the country into pushing it underground.
by Anonymous | reply 488 | February 4, 2018 5:56 PM |
And football players made fun of me once... it's all being brought up right now. It's literal violence and homophobia. Who called me a fag? Football players called me a fag. Who said "smear the queer" ? Football players did. (seriously, I think that was actually a game of tackle...)
And who wouldn't fuck me in the dorms in college but fucked my friend Katherine (multiple times) - TWO football players!
That's it, I'm writing to all of the Sponsors NOW & the Superbowl will be shut down! (with r488's help)

R466, I miss Shawn too. A lot was lost when they replaced him with Bryce. I liked the message that all different body types can be sexy. I also liked that the whole pit crew was gay. It was nice to see a spectrum of different types of gay people being represented on the show. The more feminine contestants and masculine pit crew. I don’t like that Bryce always goes out of his way to tell people he’s straight.
It mostly bothers me because the sort of straight guy fetishization is at odds with the accepting nature of the show. I don’t think there’s a problem with gay guys lusting after straight guys but it’s not the healthiest. There are lots of good looking masculine gay men and I think they should bring back Shawn or replace Bryce with another furry gay guy.
by Anonymous | reply 490 | February 4, 2018 6:51 PM |
If Bryce didn’t have a gay voice and gay mannerisms, I wouldn’t mind that he’s *choke* straight. I think Drag Race really goes full circle with acceptance. Most of the contestants are incredibly flamboyant and they and the show CELEBRATE it instread of just tolerating it as most gay men do. Others are not, and they’re not usually challenged about it. People just accept it. The people on the show are overwhelmingly gay because drag is gay culture, but they are not exclusively gay. Straight men are occasionally made over in good humor. Straight women judge. Parents and siblings are sometimes involved. The show appears to just be a gay old time that brings everyone together with an appreciation for fun and creativity. I love it.
And I thank and give RuPaul heaps of credit for having such a gay show for so many years and NOT inviting Andy Cohen, Anderson Cooper or any of their gay minstrel friends to be a part of it.

ooo I never thought about this. Do you think Andy wanted to be a judge? He constantly has the queens on WWHL - I wouldn't have suspected anything bad to have happened between him and rupaul. Maybe he just doesn't feel like flying to LA to judge it?
Cooper has a stick so far up his humorless ass, there's no way Ru would have him on... and perhaps he's self aware enough to know that he wouldn't be a fit for the show as a judge.
by Anonymous | reply 493 | February 4, 2018 7:19 PM |
R493 I don’t know and won’t speculate about whether RuPaul and Andy like one another. But I LOVE that RuPaul has been on Andy’s radio network and he has never had Andy on his show or podcast. Andy professes to be obsessed (as Ru is) with pop culture, gay culture and old games shows...yet no old Andy mug has materialized on drag race. Sashay away, Cohen. You’re not wanted here.

So glad that greasy piece of "I'm so black" scum has skittered away and left the thread clean again.
I like the season so far - the big Ben feature will play interestingly, especially if things turn out the way the spoilers have indicated. But the editing/scripting does appear obvious to kick certain people out (as in Thorgy) and highlight others (Shangela and, in a different way especially if the spoilers are right, Bebe.).
So when will Trixie start rising up, or does Ben have to "allow" that later in the season?

It’s not only season one that’s hard to find. Season four for unexplained reasons is no longer available on Amazon, and I PAID to watch it. Just like season one, it’s listed but every episode says “unavailable.”
I also paid for several other seasons that are still available from Amazon, but it wants me to pay again to watch even though purchases are not supposed to expire. I’m going back to buying DVDs of TV shows and movies that are worth paying for because streaming is scammy.

Do y'all remember Venus DLite, the delusional Madonna impersonator and first boot from S3? She is like a John Waters character. The RPDR subreddit loves her in an ironic way even though she clearly isn't right. Someone there wrote an amazing account of attending a meet-and-greet she did at a rundown Ramada Inn in Fort Lauderdale (see link).
There's also a now-legendary story about her and a fan in her Facebook group. This person was feeling depressed and suicidal, so Venus did something nice and talked the fan down off the ledge. A few days later, Venus messaged the fan asking if she would post a public message about how Venus DLite saved her life. As a reward, she offered the fan an autographed copy of the latest edition of the [italic]Ripley's Believe It or Not![/italic] book, in which she was featured due to all the money she's spent on plastic surgery to (unsuccessfully) look like Madonna.

Best comment I've seen so far about Milk on last week's episode:
by Anonymous | reply 512 | February 5, 2018 2:04 PM |
Part 1
This weekend was Pride in Fort Lauderdale; as I browsed various events, I was abolutely tickled to see a very odd happening involving none other than the ORIGINAL lipsync assassin herself, Queen of Reality Shows, Miss Venus D'lite. I wavered on whether it was worth attending merely for the irony, but when Sunday afternoon arrived, my boyfriend (pictured, I ain't posting my busted face on this sub) and I decided last minute to pay our respects to the one true Madonna.
We knew it would be a mess from the start. It was at the bar adjacent to the pool at a very broke down RAMADA INN (is "broke down Ramada Inn" too tautological?) that had clearly not been renovated since the 50s. The event seemed to be hosted by an organization committed to developing friendships between queer older men, so the hotel pool bar was full of greying and greyed white dudes slowly nursing late-afternoon mimosas. The bar had a short, five-item food menu with frighteningly low prices: a $2 hot dog and $3 BOWL OF STEW were particular highlights. We quickly stopped laughing at the idea of having stew at a poolside bar BECAUSE THE STEW WAS SELLING ABNORMALLY WELL. EVERYONE WAS EATING STEW WHILE WAITING FOR VENUS D'LITE.
STEW.
I ordered two sparkling wines for my partner and I. The bartender cheerily asked if I would like that with Sprite. We were off to an auspicious start.
by Anonymous | reply 513 | February 5, 2018 2:37 PM |
Part 2
I'd bet my boyfriend that no more than two messy heauxs would actually show up in sincerity to see Venus. Turns out those two messy heauxs were us, surrounded by the drizzle of early-summer rain and grizzle of late-life gays. The only other under-55 person there was one of the hotel employees, an excitable gay who'd chosen to pair his teased-out Party City wig (yes, he literally told us it was from Party City) and toilet-paper headpiece (crafted, apparently, with help from Venus herself #touchedbyanangel) with his everyday work polo for the Ramada. I was gaggedt at the eleganza! I will say that he seemed to make an effort to pair the red of the trim of his polo with his lip (#attentiontodetail). To be fair, the look as a whole was quite striking when paired with a cigarette and a speech about her love for Alaska Thunderfuck (who no doubt would have appreciated the trashy glamour of this hotel queen).
So eventually Venus arrives, after an aging Chinese fish named Diamond "warms up" the "crowd" with a handful of old bar queen "jokes." She unceremonious passes the mic to Venus, who has been hanging out by the end of the bar, and with her trademark lack of irony spouts out a short spiel about her love of this Ramada (lordt) and how honored she was to be with her fans for Pride. She invites us to come say hi to her and passes the mic back. She plops into a bar chair momentarily, is legitimately gagged over by a group of old women for a minute, then goes over to the grill to order food.
So there was no performance! Or no...anything! It was just a meet and greet and barely that! Venus came in almost two hours after the scheduled start time, said one or two lines into the mic, proceeded to the grill, purchased three pulled pork sliders, and promptly sat her ass down to eat at the bar, occasionally standing to take a few pics with elderly fans who--I'm not sure--might actually believe she is Madonna? Don't get me wrong! I wasn't upset! It was just such a weird thing? Like, what kind of thing is this that a queen just comes to a place in geish and you are invited to approach her while she is having food by herself? I have never been to a thing like that before.
After a few minutes, I decide to interrupt her mid-slider because if I don't get my supposedly ironic (who am I kidding, I'm loving all this) Venus pic then what was this all for. She was very welcoming and gracious! I, of course, was not at all shady and expressed my appreciation for her work blah blah blah no mention of Suicidegate. I asked her how school was going and she was so delighted to talk about it! She's apparently headed to France to do some studying abroad (I did not inquire about what sort of French study abroad programs are offered by community college...) and we chatted about European travel. I was very complimentary, though she kept getting distracted and feeling up my boyfriend. Nonetheless, I think she was super excited about getting some specific attention and told me to definitely follow up with her via social media etc etc. It was cute.
A particularly hilarious side moment: the hosting drag queen struck up a conversation with me about RPDR during which she asked "Do you know about The Reddit?" and I cackled in response, assuring her that, yes, I am more than acquianted and quite nearly obsessed. She wondered in a whisper about whether I thought "their finale rumors are true" and I explained to her that yes, pictures have been posted, stories have been coroborated, and the tea this season has been scalding. She was shook!
It was all so ridiculous we actually ended up having a fantastic time just being appalled at how absurd everything was. Venus was clearly excited and touched to have had some "fans" come out and I was all too happy to indulge. Hey, even the messiest among us deserve a lil' love.
Disco kisses!

I’m confused by some of the bigger musical extravaganzas that have become more frequent on Drag Race. Do the queens have any input into the numbers they’re lipsynching or not? Ben and Shangela’s were really funny. Thorgy’s was flat and unfunny, but it doesn’t seem fair if she had no say in the writing. It sounds like the producers are getting professional singers to imitate the famous divas, writing the material and choreographing it, then making the queens lipsynch to it?
Ru is starting to go full Little Rascals “Let’s put on a show!” with the complicated musical numbers. Sorry, but they’re usually hokey and dumb.

That RPDR subreddit is hilarious. I’m reading the thread about the purported queen meltdown later in the season. Lots of very solemn discussion about how mental illness is a serious issue, concern about queens becoming so popular that they just can’t handle it and snap. LOLOL. It sounds SO MUCH how Fametracker used to sound, lots of straights (mostly women, I’m guessing) and very young gays taking the drama so seriously. Almost brought a tear to my eye.

Bebe was robbed of a win by Ben. Since when was Julie Andrews a VH1 diva? Trixie & Ben got safe characters to play while Thorgy got screwed with Stevie Nicks (who is a gay icon by the way, Thorgy, you asshole). Milk is behaving & performing terribly this season. Get rid. The Alaska 2.0 rigger morris for Trixie & Ben has set in already...
by Anonymous | reply 538 | February 7, 2018 1:33 PM |
I think Ben was excellent in the first and second episodes and deserved to win. I didn’t think about Julie A not belonging with the divas, but you’re right, that never would have happened IRL. Still, it’s Drag Race and if the drag queens can occasionally get praise for wearing beards and men’s suits, then I think Julie Andrews as a diva is excusable.
I do like Bebe a lot.
Ben, like Jinkx, Bianca and Bob, strikes me as a legitimately talented impressionist/potential comic actor who could do well outside of drag, which I don’t see in most of the contestants. He’s got a really sharp wit and great comic timing and body language.

Ben's apotheosis is approaching.
Thorgy wasn't screwed with Stevie or her runway. She was screwed by being unfairly targeted by the production team for elimination, which was the result of her self-sabotaging talk. She was better in her number than Milk, who is TERRIBLE. Thorgy's runway was better than Milk's. Milk cannot apply makeup, and he always looks off in drag. He's simply not a drag queen. But he's more valuable to the show with his snide superiority, which is setting him up to be booted. Thorgy wasn't fun or interesting with the whining. And Thorgy, being white (I'll say it) doesn't get the tolerance that Nina got as a similar head case.
Trixie did very well and looked great. Ben wasn't "safe" because the heavy requirements of his number could have killed him.
SO - Thorgy should have been safe, and it was Shangela who was handed the top spot out of the need for an arc. Her Mariah was just okay - she didn't need to really do anything. In fact, the focus on Shangela is the most obvious imbalance so far. She yammers and poses and is full of shit. AND has improved a lot.
by Anonymous | reply 546 | February 7, 2018 9:38 PM |
I agree R546 that a lot seems skewed in favor of Shangela—AND she is very good. But she was on two prior seasons, and now a third. She gets high marks for performing well, but for me not always in a way that rises above the rest of the best. Viewers here seem to have pre-determined that she deserves the win regardless of her weekly performances. I don’t have anything against her at all, but she does seem to be a favorite of both the production team and viewers in such a way that may be a bit of a handicap to some others. I am glad Ben is being recognized for doing well but I’m a little concerned it’s a setup for a hard fall so that someone else can have a “shocking” ascendance to the top. (Shangela, obvs.)

Trixie is having this entire season pandered to her so she can win, just like Alaska.
by Anonymous | reply 552 | February 8, 2018 10:53 AM |
R552 I hope not, because if it’s catering to Trixie’s strengths...Trixie ain’t so strong.
by Anonymous | reply 553 | February 8, 2018 10:57 AM |
That’s why she got Dolly. How convenient when she released a country album in 2017.
by Anonymous | reply 554 | February 8, 2018 3:32 PM |
Milk’s “attitude” is a put-on. It entertains him. He’s putting on a show for his fans and his haters.
by Anonymous | reply 557 | February 8, 2018 8:16 PM |
Yeah, I'm not buying that. It would take someone immensely intelligent and determined to pull that off so consistently. And Lord knows Milk is neither of those things; he's just a generic bitch.
by Anonymous | reply 558 | February 8, 2018 8:23 PM |
Kennedy doesn't have a chance, does she?
by Anonymous | reply 559 | February 8, 2018 8:43 PM |
Kennedy, like Ginger, is really underperforming and it’s making me sad.
It would take someone immensely intelligent and determined to pull that off so consistently
Are you joking? It's a highly produced reality show, edited down to 1hr (roughly) chunks. We're not watching a 24hr feed.
I also think Milk is putting on an act. He may be a whiny bitch in real life, I don't know, but he's clearly playing one for the cameras. His crying/meltdown... well, it was about as convincing as Alaska's. They have a story producer guiding them, and not just in the talking heads parts.
I think the point upthread about whiny and entitled but NOT especially mean is a good one. The producers likely know that Milk will get a quicker rudemption by being the former rather than the latter.
by Anonymous | reply 561 | February 8, 2018 9:03 PM |
I agree that the reaction to Thorgy as Stevie Nicks waa unwarranted. He didn't deserve to go but his paranoid schtick put a target on his back.
Milk stunk in the challenge.
The real problem with the challenge, though, is that Ru's songs are awful. They're fine if heard as brief jingles but even 30/40 seconds is too much.
by Anonymous | reply 562 | February 8, 2018 9:08 PM |
Milk is spoiled and FOUL
by Anonymous | reply 563 | February 8, 2018 9:10 PM |
Milk was practically background scenery in Season 6, so he needed to stand out somehow. Mission accomplished.
Kennedy, like Chi Chi (who I adore), has no chance in hell. Ru loves her old school club performers but Kennedy just doesn't stack up with today's modern drag queen.
by Anonymous | reply 564 | February 8, 2018 9:26 PM |
Other than Bob, it seems like most of the AA queens lack any sort of personality. They look good and can dance but is that it?
This makes it hard to root for queens like Kennedy and Shea. I mostly feel sorry for Chi Chi.
by Anonymous | reply 565 | February 8, 2018 9:52 PM |
Hold on sis 565 Shea did great in the acting challenges with Sasha. Shea is a well rounded queen.
by Anonymous | reply 566 | February 8, 2018 10:06 PM |
You must admit that Milk has child-bearing hips.
by Anonymous | reply 567 | February 8, 2018 10:09 PM |
I was about the say the same thing, Shea had lots of personality and great at the acting/comedy challenges. There is a reason she won the most challenges her season. Also to point out the obvious Shangela is black who you seemed to have ignored.
Idk, you are painting with an awful wide brush to try to make your point.
by Anonymous | reply 568 | February 8, 2018 10:10 PM |
Even though she is undoubtedly talented, I found Shea rather boring. The intangible "it" quality seemed to be missing. Granted, this is solely based on her TV presence, as I've never seen her live.
But as to the original assertion, Shangela does not lack personality, nor does Nina Bo'nina Brown. Love them both.
by Anonymous | reply 569 | February 8, 2018 10:13 PM |
How about we just say you don't care for any Black queen except Bob 565.
by Anonymous | reply 570 | February 8, 2018 10:16 PM |
I definitely think Kennedy is the most talented dancer of this group. I don't go to many drag shows, but she is the only one from this group I would go see live. The queen reveal episode showed how she has a somewhat rough looking life down in Texas, which I found surprising based on the impression I got that she is somewhat of a regaled queen among other AA queens on the show. Is it the teenage girl affect at play here? Are the Adore Delanos' of this show getting all the good money gigs and the truly classic, talented queens like Kennedy aren't hitting?
by Anonymous | reply 571 | February 8, 2018 10:49 PM |
The "DIVAS" were assigned to each in a rather logical way. There was nothing from left field. Ben would get Andress, that makes sense. As well Trixie Dolly. Thorgy getting Stevie made sense to me, but Thorgy didn't know how to jazz it up in any way, and furthermore, should have kept his complaining mouth shut. How stupid to claim Stevie isn't an icon and a Diva and a gay favorite.
by Anonymous | reply 572 | February 8, 2018 11:48 PM |
Thorgy was quite clear what he meant by that. Apart from the scarf twirling, Nicks dozesn't have iconic moves, gestures etc. Neither does Amy Winehouse unless one counts crack tremors but Todrick choreographed a routine that meant Aja did not suffer because of it
by Anonymous | reply 573 | February 9, 2018 12:25 AM |
I wish Thorgy and Morgan were here for the Bitchelor challenge. They both would have killed it.

Someone has never been to Night of 1000 Stevies
by Anonymous | reply 576 | February 9, 2018 12:40 AM |
Kenntity had me hollering
by Anonymous | reply 577 | February 9, 2018 12:41 AM |
Jeffrey B-C is so adorable! <3
by Anonymous | reply 578 | February 9, 2018 12:43 AM |
“Have you ever taken out a catheter?”
Hahaha. Ben is dominating every episode so far.
by Anonymous | reply 579 | February 9, 2018 12:50 AM |
I laughed so hard at Kennedy’s performance. Did not expect that!
by Anonymous | reply 580 | February 9, 2018 12:55 AM |
I forgot how funny Kennedy can be. Her brilliant performance as Little Richard completely slipped my mind.
by Anonymous | reply 581 | February 9, 2018 1:11 AM |
Crazy how much Ben looks like Michelle.
by Anonymous | reply 582 | February 9, 2018 1:17 AM |
Kennedy killed Snatch Game and the John Waters skit her season, everyone wants to underestimate her.
by Anonymous | reply 583 | February 9, 2018 1:18 AM |
What’s most impressive about Kennedy this week is that this was pretty much a character of her own creation, and it was just a hilarious mess. This is one of those “rudemption” moments for sure.
by Anonymous | reply 584 | February 9, 2018 1:19 AM |
Chi Chi is a charming underdog who I liked a lot in bis original season. I’m sad he’s such a mess this time.
by Anonymous | reply 585 | February 9, 2018 1:21 AM |
Listen up. Thorgy went completely wrong with Stevie and it's his own fault. And being such a whiner no one was going to intervene, or the edit didn't want to show it.
Stevie a "witch"? Thorgy was mad because props would give her a cauldron? Thorgy's error was thinking she needed to make Stevie funny, which she's not, and the clear way that she had been bypassed in the music writing/performance should have told her the fun-da-mental of drag performance. If you don't have the material you do it straight.
If she had committed to doing a fierce Stevie, channeling the Rumours anger and pain and coke mess and delivered a real performance, she'd have been safe. Milk should have gone home anyway, both for his performance and his runway. If Thorgy had focused and given the judges (meaning Ru and Williams) eye contact and maybe slipped in just a little dizzy-eye subtly after the spins, maybe scattering some glitter at the end, the self-deluded-fill-him-full-of-sap-until-he-blows-his-nose-into-a-pancake (Thank you, Lisa Simpson), she would have stayed.
Because Ru HATES head cases. Especially white head cases, because it comes across uglier to him.
by Anonymous | reply 586 | February 9, 2018 1:28 AM |
Shit. And all Bebe did was waddle around fluffing her big wig - NO performance at all. But commitment.
by Anonymous | reply 587 | February 9, 2018 1:29 AM |
Getting sick of Ben, Kennedy was the right call, bye milk you won’t be missed.
by Anonymous | reply 588 | February 9, 2018 1:31 AM |
LOL at Marc Jacobs being the guest on the episode after Milk is eliminated.
by Anonymous | reply 589 | February 9, 2018 1:33 AM |
I liked this lipsynch! Kennedy had real gravitas. Ben overdid it by comparison. I’m glad there were no splits or death drops. These things are usually always the same.
by Anonymous | reply 590 | February 9, 2018 1:38 AM |
IMO it was a bad song choice, because the song takes like two minutes to build. You can't get it across in a one-minute TV edit.
by Anonymous | reply 591 | February 9, 2018 1:39 AM |
R591 Still glad that it forced an emotional performance instead of cartwheels and back hand flips for a change
by Anonymous | reply 592 | February 9, 2018 1:48 AM |
" bye milk you won’t be missed."
In his head he was Whole Milk, but fact is he was Skimming the surface.
by Anonymous | reply 593 | February 9, 2018 1:53 AM |
IS Anyone shocked to learn that Aja is a high school drop out?
by Anonymous | reply 594 | February 9, 2018 2:34 AM |
R594 Yes...she made it to the ninth grade??
by Anonymous | reply 595 | February 9, 2018 2:40 AM |
Ben threw the lip sync so that Kennedy is the target of Milk’s fans.
by Anonymous | reply 596 | February 9, 2018 3:15 AM |
Just like Ben threw last week's lip sync so that he wouldn't have to be the one to eliminate Thorgy.
by Anonymous | reply 597 | February 9, 2018 3:18 AM |
Much like me, Ben should not wear white tights.
by Anonymous | reply 598 | February 9, 2018 3:21 AM |
r596 does milk have a big fan base? He's a pretty boring queen.
by Anonymous | reply 599 | February 9, 2018 3:24 AM |
Milk is an attractive boy, and this is still a show with a primarily gay fanbase, so being hot is still The Most Important Thing.
