Why do and how can viewers accept two people playing the same role who look nothing alike? I didn't get it on Bewitched, and I don't get it on soaps.

Anyway, I think producers go out of their way not to cast a clone of the previous actor in the role, so that the new actor can have a chance to make the role his/her own. It's striking the right balance between resembling the previous actor but not being an exact replica.

This is my opinion. Strudel was set up for failure. There was no way he was going to be successful in that role. Chandler was fired because he made a silly faux pas, that many other young actors have made. The problem was, his faux pas pissed off the head dude in charge, who some speculated was besotted with Chandler. Who knows if that is true, but it is juicy speculation.

This is how it should have played out. Chandler still had time on his contract. Instead of being pissed off and demanding Chandler's head for making a mistake, they should have allowed Chandler to finish out his contract and play the wedding to Sonny and then Will and Sonny could have gone off on their honeymoon. When Will and Sonny returned from their honeymoon, Will could have been played by a different actor. The audience may have needed some time to adjust, but it would have given the new actor a clean playing field.

Instead of clean, new beginning... Chandler gets canned and Strudel comes in and they didn't even slow down the story to allow the audience to accept Strudel. It was like someone saying, we've got to play this gay wedding. I hate Chandler and his perky pink nipples and that mischievous smirk, so just get somebody, anybody so we can do this gay wedding. What was the rush? They had already gotten a GLAAD award.

Think about that classic Days Elvis wedding /Kristen's takedown in 1997. What if they would have replaced Eileen Davidson only a short time before they played that beat of the story.
