What little things make your life more pleasant?

Clean sheets

Coffee

Raindrops on the window

Datalounge

Air conditioning.

A colleague at work who sends me appreciative thank you emails when I go above and beyond for him. He's in a different department and knows my department isn't great at acknowledging good work. It's a small thing that means a lot.

Coffee

My dog laying on the floor seemingly asleep but being aware of where I am at all times.

My kid saying goodnight and "I love you" every night before he goes to bed.

Long baths with some great scents.

The Peppermint Gum tree in my backyard just after it rains, it really does smell like peppermint.

Thunderstorms.

by Anonymousreply 3September 24, 2017 2:05 AM

Let's see, raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens, and brown paper packages tied up with string

Fresh flowers in your home. A must.

by Anonymousreply 6September 24, 2017 2:08 AM

A cat cuddling up with you.

by Anonymousreply 7September 24, 2017 2:09 AM

My narcissus return every year, without fail. And tulips that were planted 40 years ago, by my Mom. The snow crocus that my Mom was given by our across-the-street neighbor, Ruby, who now resides not too far from my dear Mom. The sound of cicadas and tree frogs in the summer. My Mom planted a Viburnum X Carlcephalum bush in a terrible place (too close to the house) in honor of her (mentally disabled) sister when her sister passed away. The flowers are modest, but their perfume is swooningly beautiful. So it stays where it's planted.

by Anonymousreply 8September 24, 2017 2:20 AM

Waking up super early in the morning with the energy to complete chores like laundry before having to get ready for work; also, iced coffee, the smell and feel of my Lush Karma soap, listening to podcasts as I drive to work.

I also love the smell in the air when it is about to rain. Watching birds visit the bird feeders on my porch from my bay window. And, getting under the covers and stretching out on my bed at the end of the day as I prepare to go to sleep, exhausted but happy.

by Anonymousreply 9September 24, 2017 2:21 AM

Fresh hot coffee in the morning

My comfortable bed after a busy day and hot shower.

Little lizards who inspect my shoes (I live in Florida)

Bashing Republicans and The Dotard

by Anonymousreply 10September 24, 2017 2:25 AM

I love rainy days

by Anonymousreply 11September 24, 2017 2:33 AM

In the fall and winter, I use a heated mattress pad, which I turn on a couple hours before going to bed. Some days, getting into a pre-warmed bed is the best thing that happens. It's always a treat, though.

And, as others have mentioned: hot baths and showers, fresh coffee, cuddly cats.

by Anonymousreply 12September 24, 2017 2:37 AM

Getting interesting job offers to quit current low paying job.

by Anonymousreply 13September 24, 2017 2:43 AM

Daily morning coffee. My cat plopping down next to my leg, an after work-out shower and fresh bedding, hearing from someone you are waiting to hear from. Random compliments. An intriguing article or discussion. Talking about future plans or hopes-anything that gets me out of this dead end rut feeling.

by Anonymousreply 14September 24, 2017 2:45 AM

I don't get all this love of rainstorms. The sun shining through my window after the rain is my joy. A hot day at the beach is even better.

[quote]Snuggling in with a good book when it snows.

I'm jealous because much of what is written here is to do with living in America.

anyway, my turn, I have a very expensive hand held vacuum thing that's so terrific, so cleaning is so much easier and it definitely makes my life more pleasant when things are all vacuumed and not waiting until things get out of hand before I vacuum - like I used to.

Also having things organised. I've been getting organisers for my cupboards and for the fridge.

Drinking hot coffee and reading the newspaper in the morning. Watching the changes in my garden throughout the year. Soon the leaves will start to change. Feeling my 10 pound cat's body crushed up against me during the night. He's like a 10 pound boulder when he sleeps. However, I do not like to see his butt anywhere near my pillow. The little face, it can be on my pillow anytime. A friendly conversation with a stranger.

by Anonymousreply 32September 24, 2017 4:29 AM

How can the cat sleeping with you be pleasant? Mine insists on sleeping between my legs and I wake up in the middle of the night because I can't turn over. A plugged in heating pad on a pet bed and a cat who would take the hint would make my life more pleasant.

by Anonymousreply 33September 24, 2017 4:32 AM

A refreshing dip in the pool on a hot day.

Sitting by the fire when it's cold.

by Anonymousreply 34September 24, 2017 4:36 AM

Other than sex or an excellent jackoff session, the first time a guy you've been seeing reaches over and holds your hand, and my favorite most pleasant thing is being in a house in the woods where snow is falling and a fire in the fireplace by myself.

The backup camera on my Nissan, so I can at least see who I'm going to back over.

The tight, faded Levi's 501s that my gardener always wears, causing me to have masturbatory fantasies for days. If I could just think of a way to tap dat azz for real…

Direct pay from my checking account, so I never have to write a monthly check again for any reason.

Stouffer's macaroni & cheeze. Frozen food perfection.

by Anonymousreply 39September 24, 2017 5:24 AM

My dogs, Starbucks and their good whipped cream, naps

by Anonymousreply 40September 24, 2017 5:37 AM

Silicone cock rings on my old man balls. I was threatened with saggy testicles as I aged and it just isn't happening.

The ring pushes them away from my body - giving a pleasant swing at odd times.

by Anonymousreply 41September 24, 2017 11:59 AM

A really excellent read.

A warm day, slight breeze, low humidity.

The smile and kindness from a strange.

My smile and kindness to a stranger.

Watching my dog chase things I can't see in my yard (snakes? lizards? it's a mystery).

Driving to work when it's overcast. Laid-back attitudes on Fridays. Dachshunds. My autumnal house decorations. Christmas music (any time of the year). A nice cold glass of white wine. Neck kisses. Jane Austen novels.

by Anonymousreply 65September 25, 2017 4:04 AM

The aroma of the coffee being ground and the sound of the water boiling = delicious anticipation.

by Anonymousreply 66September 25, 2017 4:05 AM

Having my LPs, even after I sold nearly everything else.

Care packages (sea salt, coffee) from a gal pal in Hawaii.

The neighbor's kittehs nonchalantly waltzing into the garage and meowing expectantly. The cacophony of brooding robins, and the desert hares grazing on the lawn.

Punching through my snow-covered drive in the Forester.

ANY precipitation, thunder & lightning, or fog. Especially dry, cloud-to-cloud lightning. It makes the loudest thunder.

Taking a picture that resonates in one way or another: a close-up of a dragonfly, light nicely catching a classic car, someone's cat looking decidedly uninterested in the world.

I agree with R12. I have a bed warmer, too, and sliding into a warm bed with comfortable sheets on a bitter cold night is amazing.

by Anonymousreply 69September 25, 2017 4:39 AM

Taking a picture that makes me say "Wow!".

Good quality items for the kitchen, like a solid corkscrew, can opener, knives, and plenty of dish towels.

Sky-diving into enemy territory and not getting shot down by jihadis' mortars.

An emergency kit with rain poncho in the back of the car for when disaster strikes.

A tire iron in hand to swing at the heads of numbnut car prowlers when they try to get at my emergency kit. (You think I'm going to have anything pricier than that in my car, fools?)

A warm gun, baby.

Properly rotated and inflated tires.

Astroglide.

Zinc oxide for those long weekends in Aruba.

Driving gloves for the Aston-Martin. Amelita Galli-Curci or Maria Callas warbles swelling from the car speakers drowning out some turd's booming bass beat in nearby traffic.

by Anonymousreply 96September 25, 2017 9:22 PM

If only Maria or Amelita could drown out the booming bass of a nearby turd. I'm convinced that to really annoy people with music you need a beat, and part of the beauty of arias and "warbles" lies in their not having a beat.

"piping hot"...

[quote]The derivation of this little phrase is the sizzling, whistling sound made by steam escaping from very hot food, which is similar to the sound of high-pitched musical pipes.

An early citation is given in Philemon Holland's translation of Pliny's Historie of the world, 1601:

"Beanes... fried all whole as they be, and so cast piping hot into sharp vineger."

She does the grocery shopping and cooks a little bit for me, keeps the house clean, is home when I need to have people come in for repairs, deliveries, etc. It's a significant expense for me but worth every penny. I would give up cable and would happily give up vacations and going out before I would cut back on this service. It truly makes my life more pleasant.

Eldergay here, lost my mother last fall . I did not know much about a computer, but have been finding my way. So when I get a WW from DL, it makes me smile. And BTW, when some of these whores get in a back and forth, it's very entertaining. Sometimes I am laughing out loud. Thanks DLrs!

Clean and fresh bedding to slip into has been mentioned which I wholeheartedly endorse as a smaller joy here.

My acquisition and bedding splurge last year on a quartet pile of feather down larger pillows have taken that feeling next level.

Fortunately, I've had no allergic reaction, I need to use a liner slip and have bulked them up double-stuff* but the satisfying crinkle type crunch in the distinct way this type of cushioning cocoons, cradles and shapes exactly as my neck and shoulders need makes for splendid indolence and 5-star luxe home comfort lolling.

*Don't predictably go there DL.

Some of you sound like you ought to change your sheets more often.

by Anonymousreply 307September 10, 2018 9:45 AM

Raindrops on the window do not signify a "more pleasant" life when you know you have to go out in the rain in 30 minutes.

by Anonymousreply 308September 10, 2018 9:47 AM

What thread count for sheets is acceptable for whores vs. visitors? Anyone know the official rules? Does Sateen apply? TIA

by Anonymousreply 309September 10, 2018 10:10 AM

Sateen never applies.

r326 Listening to shitty music like John Denver (and the Carpenters, ONJ, and Afternoon Delight) is the very definition of suffering.

I love the feeling of satisfaction I get from an industrious weekend where I totally clean the house, get all the laundry done, have wonderful things in the fridge to eat and drink, the weather is horrible, cold and rainy, and I can cuddle on the couch and watch something really great on my 65 inch TV or read a good book. I treasure ties of tranquility because my day to day is so turbulent.

by Anonymousreply 335December 6, 2019 5:50 PM

a good cup of strong coffee every morning

by Anonymousreply 336December 6, 2019 6:12 PM

Boiling hot showers. The luxury of not having to set an alarm on weekends. "Forgetting" to charge my phone and enjoying a few blessed hours, or even a day without any kind of unwanted human interaction. The sun and wind on my skin when I'm running. Blasting music in my car during long rides when there's no one around.

And cats. Obviously.

Sounds corny, but I like to be stocked-up on everyday things like toilet paper, paper towels, breakfast foods, etc. Helps especially when I get sick. If I need to stay home and rest, at least I don't need to run out to the store to get something I've run out of.

Getting pleasantly buzzed with my husband on Friday nights and having our weekly great dinner and movie night.

It’s funny how many people are saying being at home with books, pets etc. is their greatest pleasure right now because every day life has become so draining. It’s certainly become my favorite thing.
