Scream

Why is this considered one of the best 1000 films of all time?

by Anonymousreply 44June 6, 2020 3:43 AM

I guess nobody knows, OP!

by Anonymousreply 1September 17, 2017 1:38 AM

It launched the meta revolution

by Anonymousreply 2September 17, 2017 2:28 AM

It was smart, funny and scary and had a great cast including Matthew Lillard, Rose McGowan, Neve Campbell and her two front veneers.

by Anonymousreply 3September 17, 2017 2:44 AM

r2 what is the meta revolution? I've never heard of that term

by Anonymousreply 4September 19, 2017 7:06 PM

Yes it is and so is the first sequel.

by Anonymousreply 5September 19, 2017 7:14 PM

I was surprised to have loved this movie. I thought it would be a boar, but it was great.

by Anonymousreply 6September 19, 2017 7:22 PM

Like a razorback boar?

by Anonymousreply 7September 19, 2017 7:43 PM

R4:

The onslaught of self-referential media that has become so common.

Half of Scream is Wes Craven making fun of Wes Craven movies and horror in general.

It was as if he was doing his own fan fiction.

by Anonymousreply 8September 19, 2017 7:47 PM

Does Courteney Cox ever get bumped off in any of them? I wasn't going to sit through parts 3 or 4 unless she did.

by Anonymousreply 9September 19, 2017 7:49 PM

I think she was even in the reboot with that cunt from that Reba bio show

by Anonymousreply 10September 19, 2017 7:51 PM

I'm rewatching it now. Skeet was so cute then.

by Anonymousreply 11September 19, 2017 9:00 PM

It was brilliant to market Drew as the lead star because that secured an audience. If they had marketed Neve, only the Party of Five audience would have shown up. Brilliant strategy.

Who's big face is that on the poster?

by Anonymousreply 13September 19, 2017 10:06 PM

r13, that's supposed to be Drew's character as well

by Anonymousreply 14September 19, 2017 10:06 PM

I think the big draw was the big twist that *gasp* the big star, Drew Barrymore, is the first to die!

by Anonymousreply 15September 19, 2017 10:10 PM

Those don't look like Drew's eyes.

by Anonymousreply 16September 19, 2017 10:13 PM

r16, it's an illustration, not a photo.

by Anonymousreply 17September 19, 2017 10:22 PM

I think that's supposed to be Rose McGowan. She's the only one missing from the poster.

by Anonymousreply 18September 20, 2017 12:29 AM

They made multiple posters with that motif and released different covers with various actors on the VHS sleeve.

by Anonymousreply 19September 20, 2017 12:36 AM

It's a fast-paced, suspenseful thriller with what was then novel meta dialogue. If it still holds up, it's not because of the self-referential shit but because Wes Craven directed the shit out of it.

by Anonymousreply 20September 20, 2017 12:43 AM

It helps that the meta-dialog is play absolutely straightly, with no winking at the camera. It would work as a slasher movie even without the meta stuff.

Great soundtrack too.

by Anonymousreply 21September 20, 2017 12:56 AM

The most frightening thing about Scream 3 is Courtney's bangs.

Parker Posey as fake Gail Weathers stole Scream 3

by Anonymousreply 23September 20, 2017 2:18 AM

Any film where Drew B is killed in the beginning is wonderful!

by Anonymousreply 24September 20, 2017 2:32 AM

R22 Dear god those are awful.

But yea, it revitalized the slasher genre and updated the way movies were marketed to teenagers and pre-25 crowd. It made them feel like they were in on the joke instead of the facetious pandering they were used to.

by Anonymousreply 25September 20, 2017 3:02 AM

Scream 2 was hilarious and quite scary as well. I prefer it to the first, which I love. Scream 3 was awful. I was pleased with scream 4 even though I cannot stand Emma Roberts.

by Anonymousreply 26September 20, 2017 5:11 AM

I happened to watch this yesterday. What the hell was with all the closeups?! I was always backing away from the screen. And I thought Matthew Lillard was just awful - way too over-the-top.

by Anonymousreply 27September 20, 2017 5:31 AM

It was a brilliant movie. Thought the aftermath of self-referential movies was not appreciated.

r24 = Tom Green!

by Anonymousreply 29September 20, 2017 5:33 AM

Scream 4 was utter shit. Scream 3 has grown on me. I kinda liked the whole Hollywood thing.

by Anonymousreply 30September 20, 2017 11:16 AM

Because people have shit for taste in movies.

by Anonymousreply 31September 20, 2017 11:19 AM

Because the entire audience, even straight boys, would lick Skeet Ulrich from head to toe and suck him dry.

by Anonymousreply 32September 20, 2017 6:50 PM

Skeet was so greasy looking in Scream.

by Anonymousreply 33September 21, 2017 1:09 AM

Remember those epic credits at the end? Everybody gave a standing ovation when Drew Barrymore's name came up.

by Anonymousreply 34September 21, 2017 1:23 AM

What was epic above the credits? What was special about Drew's credit?

Why did they put Drew in such a fake wig?

by Anonymousreply 35September 21, 2017 11:14 AM

Benihime

by Anonymousreply 36September 21, 2017 11:17 AM

It happens to the best of us, R35.

by Anonymousreply 37September 21, 2017 11:20 AM

"By the way: nice streaks."

by Anonymousreply 38September 21, 2017 11:28 AM

It was nice of the Ulrich parents to give their son another name for semen.

by Anonymousreply 39September 24, 2017 2:14 PM

Skeet is not his real name. It is a nickname. When he was a kid he was light and fast on his feet--"like a mosquito." Skeet came out of mosquito.

by Anonymousreply 40September 24, 2017 2:23 PM

Then why does his father affectionately refer to him as "my little jism?"

by Anonymousreply 41September 24, 2017 2:35 PM

I wonder of Neve Campbell moving to London had anything to do with James Toback and John Cusack?

by Anonymousreply 42June 5, 2020 9:11 PM

Skeet aged well. His character on Riverdale is so wonderful. He knows what those boys need!

by Anonymousreply 43June 6, 2020 3:14 AM

Stop acting like Drew was some huge "get" at that time. Bitch hadn't had a hit movie in years.
