What's the Gay Story You Wish Hollywood Would Produce?
I'm sick of mopey, navel-gazing, gay themes in movies; I want to see a fun, bubble gum, gay rom-com! No edge, no darkness, just a light and uplifting 1h30min "boy meets boy, boy loses boy, boy finds boy" story like Hollywood churned out in droves in the '90s and noughties. I want a gay Notting Hill or The Proposal or Serendipity (don't judge) - 100% unadulterated treacle. I want a ridiculous set-up like a blind date or a crush on a co-worker or a chance meeting at a club that leads to love, but not before signals are crossed hilariously and encounters are misinterpreted uproariously. But most of all, I want a Hollywood story about how exciting it is to be young and gay and in-love.
What gay story do you wish Hollywood would tell?

Christian McLaughlin's "Sex Toys of the Gods". It's a late 90's novel about a music obsessed gayling who moves from Ohio to LA after college and falls in love with the husband of his Belinda Carlysle-esque in recovery idol when he ends up house sitting next to their Beverly Hills Manse..., and becomes her best buddy at the same time. Mix in shady producer/madams, a gorgon of a housesitting boss, a Broadway star trying to make it in Hollywood, a useless manager and her S&M obsessed client - plus Ex-lax spiked coffee enemas, copier sex, big dicks and over the top gay sex scenes (plus murder) and it becomes a must read. It would be the perfect basis for a Netflix or Amazon series.

I always wanted to make one called "6 Million" about an aspiring actress called into CAA one day and offered six million to marry the gay star of a huge film franchise. She considers it, then turns down the offer -- and someone wants her dead. So she ends up on the run with gay actor who becomes like the action star he plays in the films and, of course, comes out at the end once they are both safe. A bit of "The Firm" but any other connection is total coincidence (er-hem, throat clear).

He's openly gay and boss at MGM tells him to forgo his boyfriend and marry a woman or lose your career. Haines basically tells Mayer he'll give up his boyfriend if Mayer divorces his wife. End of movie career. But, he's besties with Joan Crawford, and he redecorates her house smashingly. Word gets around and he starts a second career as one of the top interior designers, designer to the stars. Plus he and his boyfriend are called by Crawford "the happiest couple in Hollywood". Just do a cool, fun story but rather have the main protagonist be a straight guy like always have him be gay!
You don't need a story that revolves around his sexuality. Why can't a gay people just be a normal protagonist.
Making "gay movies/TV shows" aren't that hard. You can literally use the same script except rather than female love interests you have male love interests.

Try the British A Beautiful Thing, although it might be too Euro-realistic for your liking. Another great and funny British coming of age film is Get Real although to be fair the main guy is crushing on a sports hero. Still, it's extremely well-made film and one of my favorite gay comedy dramas.

r135 Jim Jones was responsible for Jonestown, but there were people who could have investigated the Temple as the cult it was, and prevented them from fleeing to Guyana. And I'm not a retarded freeper for pointing out something written about by mainstream journalists and writers over the years. He did have an influence on the outcome, because he used them for his own political gain, as did Moscone, while ignoring critics. Any investigation would have revealed the truth, but they didn't want to look. Milk was an opportunist, and a complicated man who didn't deserve his fate.

A bio of photographer George Platt Lynes -- went to Paris, friends with Gertrude Stein, Jean Cocteau, others. However, he was able to photograph full-frontals of Yul Brynner and Burt Lancaster before they were famous, dancers with American Ballet Theater and many others. But he knew he couldn't really do a public exhibition of the nudes at that time, and a lot of them were sent to the Kinsey Institute. Lots of opportunities for full-frontal roles for ambitious and uninhibited actors. Sex, nudity, photography, expatriate life in Paris, famous friend, upcoming nude actors, this has a lot of possibilities.

I'd love to see a movie about Carl Panzram, the seriously damaged gay criminal who was just getting started 100 years ago.
[bold]"In my lifetime I have murdered 21 human beings, I have committed thousands of burglaries, robberies, larcenies, arsons and, last but not least, I have committed sodomy on more than 1,000 male human beings. For all these things I am not in the least bit sorry".[/bold]
I'm intrigued especially about the gay angle and how it all happened. Did he have lovers or were they mostly rapes? It sounds like he was a total slag, probably both in and out of prison.
"In his autobiography, Panzram wrote that he was "rage personified" and that he would often rape men whom he had robbed. He was noted for his large stature and great physical strength—due to years of hard labor at Leavenworth and other prisons—which aided him in overpowering most men he encountered. He also engaged in vandalism and arson."
Wikipedia also says that while on death row he became friends with a guard, a man 10 years younger than him. At the time Panzram was in his late 30s. That could be the angle to approach Panzram's life and what he'd done earlier. Maybe he fell in love with the guard, if that was even possible for a man who was quite probably a sociopath.

Anyone read Han Ong's Fixer Chao? It's about a young Filipino hustler enlisted by an embittered middle-aged man to scam NY's upper middle class by posing as a Feng Shui expert. The specific expertise can be updated but the clever detail is that the young man is instructed to study Feng Shui and offer the wrong advice so that just in case FS isn't bullshit, he'll have fucked over his clients by positioning the mirror so as to drain the soul, and so forth. The hustler's being gay is incidental but doesn't have to be. Fucking loved that book.

Eventually they were allowed to be in the same prison and spend a lot of time with each other until Richard Loeb was brutally murdered by another inmate in 1936 at age 29. Nathan Leopold eventually went free after over 34 years in prison. He died at the age of 67 after living the last 13 years of his life as a free man. Until the end, he always professed his undying love for Richard Loeb. I would like to see a BB Mountain type story, but instead of cowboys, it would be a love story between 2 police officers. Both very straight acting, one has a girlfriend the other is married with kids. They are partnered up to work to clean up the community, but slowly, they discover they have mutual homosexual feelings for each other. Eventually they decide to come out, it obviously being harder for the older cop who has to tell his wife and children. The movie would also deal with how their department struggles to accept this situation or face societal backlash in an era of Black Lives Matter and gay acceptance. Channing Tatum could play the younger officer, and Matt Damon could play the older, married cop. Graphic male to male ass grinding sex scenes may push it to an R rating.

There will be a controversial scene where they have their first sexual encounter in one of the "shower" facilities. Eventually, Dieter, the German guard, is caught and is told if he personally murders his lover Ezra, their tryst will be forgotten. In the climactic scene of the movie, rather than killing his lover, Dieter points the gun at his own head and pulls the trigger. Another guard immediately steps in and kills Ezra. His body falls on top of Dieter and they lay dying together. Camera zooms out into an aerial view of the region showing Allied troops, who will eventually liberate the camp, just miles away. Roll credits.

"Gay Space" During a year long space mission, two American astronauts help each other discover their true sexuality and fall deeply in love. Russian hackers get into the camera system and catch glimpses of them sharing tender moments which include plenty of open mouth kissing. They threaten to reveal the footage to the world unless the US Government pays them 100 million dollars. They refuse and the footage is made public. Once the two find out, they use their platform on the world stage to start a dialogue to the masses about homosexuality. The POTUS, loosely based on Trump is outraged and tells them to stop immediately or he will trash funding for future missions. The two decide they have only one choice, ask the hackers to keep the feed open to the world and get down to some serious butt naked gravity free male to male hard ass grinding, in front of 5 billion viewers. The POTUS literally has a heart attack while watching the action as his trophy wife first lady continues to watch in fascination oblivious to the fact her out of shape hubby is on the floor being resuscitated by Secret Service men. He comes to while one of the agents is giving him mouth to mouth. He then faints after realizing he had another man's mouth over his. Nice little comedy bit thrown in. When the astronauts come home, they are welcomed by the gay community as true heroes and given their own parade -pride style of course. Yes. I want to see this movie!

Not needed. We need to have gay protagonists that aren't hiding the fact that they're men who are attracted to men or visa versa for the ladies. No closet. No AIDS. No homophobia. No stereotypes unless straight/bisexual characters share them. Real world gay; not circuit party gay.

(R230) You have a great imagination, but Hollywood would never produce the space story. It sounds like it deserves and X rating at least which has been a box office kiss of death for the last few decades. I could see this being produced by some eccentric European filmmaker who would want this to be a big middle finger to the status quo. Anything done right could work, I guess. The cop movie wouldn't work for the fact that homophobic cops across America would boycott the movie and make it a political issue so people on the right would jump in and spoil the fun for everybody. I do like the idea of ultra straight so called he men coming out. Many are closet cases and I like seeing them get called out on their hypocrisy. The cops that would be leading the charge against the movie would be the ultra macho straight acting closet cases that are married and have kids. This movie would hit too close to home for them to handle. Oh, the irony.
