Matt Bomer in Mark Ruffalo's movie Anything premiere
EXCLUSIVE: Matt Bomer and John Carroll Lynch topline Anything, a drama from first-time feature director Timothy McNeil that stars Bomer as a transgender woman who falls in love with a straight man. This is the first look at the Mark Ruffalo-exec produced pic, which has its world premiere this weekend in the LA Muse section of the Los Angeles Film Festival.
A sultry Bomer says, "I like things deep, know what I mean?"

I'm really not sure what to think. I knew I would be a little shocked. But he kinda looks a little rough as a woman. IMOโ˜บ๏ธ

by Anonymousreply 5June 13, 2017 9:03 PM

Yeah he doesn't look great as a woman honestly.

by Anonymousreply 6June 13, 2017 9:15 PM

Sociopath eyes. Why's he trying to be a serious actor? Just play the pretty boy. Jeeze - it's simple.

by Anonymousreply 23June 14, 2017 1:19 AM

Has appropriate trans face. There should be something slightly "off" about it. I mean please, lets get real: Most of the time there is this gut, foundational thing that makes you cock your head a bit and squint.

by Anonymousreply 24June 14, 2017 1:34 AM

He looks great, exactly like a trans woman: Masculine.

by Anonymousreply 25June 14, 2017 1:37 AM

I love Matt Bomer, but do not want to see him as a tucking transsexual, so won't watch it.

by Anonymousreply 34June 14, 2017 8:03 AM

Such a silly argument. Actors are not limited to playing themselves in art. The Ts are supposed to be part of the LGBT, but they are trashing a gay actor because he is "cis." If the divide is between Ts and "cis" LGBs, they need to start their own organization. They should give this performance by a sensitive, culturally aware gay man a chance before they condemn it.

by Anonymousreply 35June 14, 2017 8:52 AM
They should give this performance by a sensitive, culturally aware gay man

LOL Duckling went to war on Twitter with any Trans who criticized him.

by Anonymousreply 36June 14, 2017 10:44 AM

R36 He didn't go to war with anybody, you fucking idiot. He hasn't even said a word about this movie.

by Anonymousreply 37June 14, 2017 10:48 AM

R36 Duckling blocked every trans on Twitter who tweeted negatively about his casting. Several of them made videos about it, which you can find in the thread, "TRANSBOMER'S COLLAPSE IS COMPLETE"

by Anonymousreply 38June 14, 2017 11:46 AM

R38 He blocked two bitches, because he didn't know who they were, then unblocked them and followed them. That is all. There was no war.

by Anonymousreply 39June 14, 2017 11:51 AM

Was it someone on this board who said he always looks like someone is shining a flashlight on his face?

by Anonymousreply 42June 14, 2017 12:38 PM

The whole blocking incident lasted a couple of hours. It was hardly a war! Ruffalo "reached out" to the Ts and mollified them. There was a little flurry of op eds and then it all died down within a week.

Somebody on DL loves to bring it up every chance he gets, but that same troll is always calling Matt names, posting unflattering photos, declaring him a failure, and predicting the end of his career. It's tiresome, but persistent.

No, the backlash started as soon as the movie was announced in the trades. Jen Richards tweeted "Matt Bomer, I hope one day you have the chance to do some good for the transgender community" and he blocked her! So she made so vlog about it.

"Iโ€™m only going to do it if itโ€™s the right story thatโ€™s told for the right reason, and thatโ€™s relevant to this day and age, as much as it pays homage to who this man was. by Anonymousreply 64June 16, 2017 12:57 AM

Please Bomer would have been a terrible Clift. I doubt he even is that familiar with his work, apparently Bomer hadn't even watched "Sunset Boulevard" until last year so that tells you a lot about his passion for classic movies.

by Anonymousreply 65June 16, 2017 2:52 AM

R53 I believe the trans actress from Sense8 was the one who tweeted that. (It was also tweeted at Michelle Rodriguez.) I thought it was odd because I'm assuming he's donated to numerous LGBT charities. Given how the T has taken over most of those organizations, most of the money probably goes to them.

I think Jen was the one who sent off a tweet storm with the classic "crying as I type this" and, of course, LITERAL VIOLENCE.

by Anonymousreply 66June 16, 2017 3:07 AM

Is there proof that most of the money donated to LGBT organizations goes solely to Trans issues and not to any Gay, Lesbian and Bisexual issues? I haven't seen the numbers.

by Anonymousreply 67June 16, 2017 3:16 AM

Jen Richards is once again dumping on Matt Bomer.

Jen just doesn't get it. There's no audience for a film starring a trans lead.

Women can't relate to trans women. Most men are not attracted to trans women. So who would actually watch the film if a trans woman was playing the lead?

Matt is a charming and good-looing guy thus women and gay guys will watch him in a movie. It's that simple.

by Anonymousreply 68June 16, 2017 6:07 PM

R68 = idiot

by Anonymousreply 69June 16, 2017 6:25 PM

Like I said, there is no audience for transgender stories, R69.

by Anonymousreply 70June 16, 2017 6:27 PM

About 0.03% of the population would be interested in watching a trans actor.

by Anonymousreply 71June 16, 2017 6:29 PM

Tell that to Transbomer, R70.

by Anonymousreply 72June 16, 2017 6:30 PM

I think this is something that Matt wishes he hadn't done.

by Anonymousreply 73June 16, 2017 6:31 PM

How do you know? Maybe he always wished to play trans.

by Anonymousreply 74June 16, 2017 6:35 PM

I think he probably thought the trans community would be more supportive, R74.

by Anonymousreply 75June 16, 2017 6:39 PM

Mark Ruffalo is a certified social activist. They hired a couple of trans actors and consultants. It comes down to whether only trans can play trans. The play has been around for awhile and Freda has been played by men. The question is whether the trans protests will have enough influence to hurt the movie. They may just be creating curiosity and publicity for it.

by Anonymousreply 76June 16, 2017 6:49 PM

Most of these projects are awards bait roles for the actors in them. No one expects them to make $$$. Jen Richards is a pathetic professional victim clown and a delusional liar.

by Anonymousreply 77June 16, 2017 6:52 PM
I think this is something that Matt wishes he hadn't done.

Like Magic Mike 2: Electric Bugaloo?

by Anonymousreply 78June 16, 2017 6:57 PM

Why would someone who looks like Matt Boner, male or female, be interested in someone who looks like John Carroll Lynch. It beggars belief and I will not go to the theater to see this picture.

by Anonymousreply 79June 16, 2017 7:03 PM

R78, Matt didn't do Magic Mike with the hope of getting an award.

Trans protests against the film now make any award unlikely.

by Anonymousreply 80June 16, 2017 7:05 PM

Is the character someone who takes female hormones and has had surgery? I know some think only trans should play trans, but trans encompasses a lot of things. Someone who has medically transitioned looks a lot different than a male bodied person who dresses like a woman. I remember people being upset that about Transparent before it started. I wondered where they were supposed to find a 70 year old actor who was Trans but hadn't taken any hormones or had surgery yet, just like the character.

by Anonymousreply 81June 16, 2017 7:15 PM

Here is Jen's argument, but it is ridiculous to insist that this movie will lead directly to violence against trans women. She actually says at one point that she doesn't object to any actor being able to play any role, but then returns to her violence argument. She also says she likes Matt, who is a nice guy, but she feels compelled to trash his movie anyway. It's like she wants to seem sympathetic but she just HAS to speak out to SAVE LIVES! So does that make Matt & Mark accessories to crime if they don't withdraw the movie?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 82June 16, 2017 7:16 PM

You're absolutely right, R81. Eddie Izzard identifies as trans. He has no surgery plans.

by Anonymousreply 83June 16, 2017 7:20 PM

That rhymes, R83.

by Anonymousreply 84June 16, 2017 7:28 PM
Like Magic Mike 2: Electric Bugaloo?

Again in retrospect we can say something like that was bad for his career, but again we don't know who his goals are/were. Much like Transbomer film.

by Anonymousreply 85June 16, 2017 7:30 PM

Trans women are stomping on women's rights. Why would women want to watch them in a movie?

by Anonymousreply 86June 16, 2017 7:36 PM

R83 Izzard also dresses as a man some times. Not just when playing a part either. I saw him in concert and he was dressed as a man. Someone asked why he didn't have makeup and heels on. He said something like don't put me in a box. I like Izzard but he is definitely a man. A man who likes traditionally feminine clothing.

by Anonymousreply 87June 16, 2017 7:49 PM

For some reason, the anti-Anything comments seem to be directed more to Bomer than Ruffalo. Wonder why?

by Anonymousreply 88June 16, 2017 8:02 PM
The play has been around for awhile and Freda has been played by men.

The character in the play is a transvestite. Ruffalo changed it to transsexual because he thought he was "woke." (He isn't!)

by Anonymousreply 89June 16, 2017 8:13 PM

Is the character in the movie supposed to be transitioning?

by Anonymousreply 90June 16, 2017 8:41 PM

How the fuck should we know?

by Anonymousreply 91June 16, 2017 9:08 PM

Ruffalo & Bomer are maintaining radio silence so far. No tweets, no nothing. No promotion for this movie either.

by Anonymousreply 92June 16, 2017 9:25 PM

I don't know, R90. The character is supposed to be transgender but not sure where they are supposed to be in their "transition".

I don't understand the logic of the trans community. They seem to think if a "passable" trans woman played Bomer's role that filmgoers would suddenly believe that trans women are women. But this is wrong because most trans women can't pass as women. The trans we see in real-life still look like men under the makeup and dresses. So Bomer is an appropriate casting choice if the trans community wants to promote acceptance of real-life trans women like Jen Richards.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 93June 16, 2017 9:25 PM

Matt should just say he's trans. They can't touch him/her if he/she does that. After all, there are now numerous people claiming to be trans and fully supported who just request different pronouns and do nothing about their appearance.

by Anonymousreply 94June 16, 2017 9:51 PM

They are all just jealous that Bomer looks better than they do in a dress. No one would go see the film with a no name actor - Trans or no Trans. She needs to get over herself and stop begging for attention. It's unbecoming!

by Anonymousreply 95June 16, 2017 9:55 PM
No one would go see the film with a no name actor - Trans or no Trans.

by Anonymousreply 98June 16, 2017 10:03 PM

R98 Who knows but the only way to see it is to show up at the venue an hour before and get a number to see if you can get in. If it's anything like Sundance they did a pre-sale for the local area and kept passes for VIP'S.

by Anonymousreply 99June 16, 2017 10:08 PM

Well shit! Tickets are now available! LOL!

by Anonymousreply 100June 16, 2017 10:13 PM

Someone should point out to Jen Richards that misrepresenting that you are a biological man to potential sex partners will about 100000000 times more likely cause violence against trans people then Matt Bomer playing a tranny in a movie. Also, this kind of shit pretty much will seal the deal that films about trans people won't get made. Sheryl Underwood on The Talk when discussing her career and Mo'Nique's referenced a list in Hollywood called the "LIFE'S TOO SHORT LIST" which basically blackballs people who are too much of a pain in the ass and not worth the effort. Jen Richards and her fellow SJW trans actors fit into this category.

by Anonymousreply 101June 16, 2017 10:16 PM

Jen Richards says that casting a man as a trans reinforces they believe that trans women are men, she thinks that if they had cast HER people were going to see an actual woman. Well, not really, she still looks like a dude with good make up. She is really delusional and vindictive. She is mad she wasn't cast and is going full on cunt on Matt. This is hurting her cause and image. I personally can't wait to watch this film, and I know Bomer is going to do a great job, he is a good actor who can actually sell a movie, unlike an unknown trans like Richards.

by Anonymousreply 102June 16, 2017 10:26 PM

It's startling that Jen Richards is unable to realize that she looks like a man.

by Anonymousreply 103June 16, 2017 10:31 PM

by Anonymousreply 112June 17, 2017 6:28 AM

Apparently, he called Jen Richards personally and spoke with her. She says, "This is not about Matt Bomer or me. He is a nice guy."

He has not responded on Twitter to her article, which has been posted ad nauseum to his Twitter feed, but he did not block anyone. Ruffalo has not responded either.

by Anonymousreply 113June 17, 2017 7:06 AM

R105 Mmm. That receding hairline. So feminine.

by Anonymousreply 114June 17, 2017 7:15 AM

He has been pretty quiet on all of his social media accounts since the trailer dropped, you can't really blame him. He does read his mentions.

I'm sure he's learned how to mute people on Twitter now instead of blocking them.

The main issue, even before all of this, is that originally the character in the play Anything, on which this movie was based, was a crossdresser and not transgender.

For some odd reason they decided to change the character to transgender and had they not done this and left it alone in the first place none of this would be happening.

by Anonymousreply 115June 17, 2017 7:23 AM

I'm much more interested in Bomer's project for Amazon about the Golden Age of Hollywood based on the novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald called, "The Last Tycoon".

It looks gorgeous and I love stories about old Hollywood...

by Anonymousreply 117June 17, 2017 7:45 AM

Hope all the controversy over Anything won't hurt The Last Tycoon. Matt has a loyal fan base, but it doesn't seem like he is inundated with offers of parts. Coming out as gay has not helped that. Since he will be 40 this year, he needs to be successful in a serious role.

by Anonymousreply 120June 17, 2017 9:21 AM

[R118], I posted about "The Last Tycoon" @[R116]/[R117]; I do not consider myself a Matt Bomer fan, but after seeing the LT trailer I got really excited for this series and very open to giving Bomer a real try as an actor.

I never got into "White Collar" and haven't really seen anything else he's done since then.

"The Last Tycoon" looks very good to me though, and--judging by the trailer--it seems like Bomer will do a great job in a very meaty role (and it also looks like he's working with several good actors in it--which is another plus).

I'm not interested in the trans movie at all (and am not happy about what trans activists are doing to gay rights and women's rights). I don't judge him for doing the movie, but I won't be watching it.

I definitely am looking forward to seeing him in "The Last Tycoon" though!

Because like many privileged white heterosexual people in Hollywood who fancy themselves as outspoken progressives (see also: Banks, Elizabeth and Damon, Matt) he is so fucking dense he can't see how obnoxious he is when he unconsciously exercises his privilege. Everything you need to know is from his explanation about why he cast Bomer: because he was so good playing a gay man in The Normal Heart. So the next logical step would be to cast him as transgender right? Because to people like Ruffalo, those are the same thing. And of course Bomer is such a cocksucker to his big Hollywood friend, he says yes.

by Anonymousreply 122June 17, 2017 12:04 PM

And that's also why Ruffalo changed it from trasvestite to transgender. Because in his mind, those are the same thing. But transgender is trendier now, so why not?

by Anonymousreply 123June 17, 2017 12:08 PM

If they had left it transvestite, they probably would have gotten the same crap from the same people. "Why didn't you make the character trans instead of just a man who looks like a woman?!" After all, it would still be a man with good hair and makeup in a woman's clothes - and everybody knows that's what killing trans women - "literally"....

by Anonymousreply 124June 17, 2017 2:19 PM

Walking Out looks like a pretty good movie, too. It's hard to imagine 3 more different roles than Walking Out, Last Tycoon and Anything, which will all be shown about the same time. Magic Mike, The Normal Heart, Spaceship 76, and The Nice Guys all had very different characters, too. Matt has been busy since White Collar ended, but no future projects have been announced.

Have you noticed that some of his die-hard stalkers aren't keen on this movie?

R127 Yes, I noticed that. They are SJWs, that's why, and so fucking self righteous. But the majority of his fans are backing him up 100%, I'm sure he appreciates it.

Oh, the tranny drama of it all!

Someone ought to explain to the SJWs that movies are private businesses, not social justice tools paid for by tax dollars!

by Anonymousreply 135June 18, 2017 2:43 AM

Someone needs to explain to Republicans that whining about "SJWs" is tiresome and marks them out as probable Trump voters and Rush Limbaugh fans

by Anonymousreply 136June 18, 2017 3:04 AM

This was his trans coach:

Kylene K. Steele was an associate producer and personally worked with Bomer, as shown in a video on YouTube. She posted on Facebook that she โ€œworked so hard together on the development and honesty of the character; I am truly touched by his openness and commitment to developing Freda with authenticity.โ€ (lgbtqnation.com)

[bold]kylenekristensteele[/bold] "The awesome Matt Bomer and I were working on a film 3 weeks ago, but we worked together about a month beforehand. Working with him was a pleasure and he was so kind, down to earth, humble, and so connected to the Universe; of course handsome as well. We laughed, shared, and talked about important issues that society is facing today in this world. I can't talk much about our film but I will tell you that he is spectacular and I can't wait for the whole world to see it. Also his eyes are even more amazing in real life." (Twitter)

by Anonymousreply 184June 19, 2017 2:00 PM

R184 He just can't seem to get away from Murphy! I think it's good for him to concentrate on this series.

by Anonymousreply 185June 19, 2017 2:08 PM

Most series contracts have a clause that allows three guest appearances on another series, at most.

by Anonymousreply 186June 19, 2017 2:35 PM

That's okay. This show looks like it has real potential to last a few years. Nice for Matt to have a little stability in his life while the kids are growing up.

by Anonymousreply 187June 19, 2017 2:38 PM

The show is absolutely terrible, but it will probably get two seasons because Amazon renews everything. If it doesn't get two seasons it'll be because of costs which are considerable for any period show. Or if Amazon replaces its original programming team which everyone is expecting given its continued failure to generate hits.

by Anonymousreply 188June 19, 2017 2:47 PM

Actually, the pilot wasn't bad, but it sounds like the show will get better with time. Bomer and Grammer have enough fans to at least give it a good start. Last summer Amazon voters picked it to continue as a series. Hard to imagine it lasting 5 seasons, but who knows?

Matt has a such a thing for older men. Simon, Ryan Murphy and Tim DeKay are all about the same age and Kelsey Grammer is only a little older. More the age of an uncle than a father. Or maybe a teacher.

Murphy is supposedly working on a sequel to TNH so maybe Matt will have a flashback role in that.

Jen Richards has those horrible super fake refund gap tits.

by Anonymousreply 193June 19, 2017 5:16 PM

The NYT panned it, too, but this is a fairly positive review that suggests the show will succeed better as a reimagined plot set in Fitzgerald's milieu than it would to attempt a literal interpretation of the unfinished novel. In the interview at R181, that is what screenwriter Chris Keyser said they are trying to do. Reviews for the 1976 version of TLT and all, versions of Great Gatsby have been weak, so trying something different may work better.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 194June 19, 2017 5:21 PM

I think The Last Tycoon will improve with time. Also you can see that Grammer and Bomer get along great, but who doesn't get alone with Matt?. All his co stars praise him after working with him.

by Anonymousreply 195June 19, 2017 10:41 PM

I think "The Last Tycoon" looks great. Are they dropping all of the episodes at the same time in July or releasing them slowly week to week?

by Anonymousreply 197June 19, 2017 11:10 PM
Bomer, who was decorative in the Magic Mike movies but dug deep as the closeted New York Times reporter in Ryan Murphy's The Normal Heart, gives a performance of real warmth and delicacy. Rather than play Freda as a force of nature or a collection of mannerisms โ€” the typical default modes of actors playing trans women โ€” Bomer renders her fully dimensional: an unpredictable tangle of impulses, by turns defensive and tender. (It's worth noting that associate producer Kylene K. Steele, a transgender woman, was a personal consultant to Bomer throughout the shoot.)

by Anonymousreply 203June 20, 2017 1:01 PM

Bomer and Ruffalo were smart not to reply to @SmartMouthJen et al and instead let transwomen who liked the show speak for them. Without anyone to argue with, they threw their fit and now they have nothing left to say. They're just creating more publicity for the movie. Few people care what they think.

by Anonymousreply 204June 20, 2017 2:46 PM

I think it was a smart move to let the film and other actors speak for themselves.

by Anonymousreply 205June 20, 2017 2:50 PM
I love how much people bitch about all the white male privilege in Hollywood but then we are supposed to praise the white men that decide to change their gender to become White Women. Like the Wachowskiโ€™s were just another example of white privilege in hollywood, but now that they have become women they are now the two most successful female directors of all time and have become part of a protected class that you cannot question without being called a biggot. I genuinely couldnโ€™t care less how a person decides to dress or act, but Iโ€™m not sure why I have to play into the fairytale and act like itโ€™s real.

by Anonymousreply 225June 20, 2017 11:05 PM

I would have loved to see Monroe Stahr be portrayed in The Last Tycoon as a closeted homosexual (although Fitzgerald did not imagine that). He could have idealized his beautiful wife and their short lived marriage retrospectively. He could flirt with attractive young actors and have clandestine encounters with them. Women could find him attractive because he is so unattainable and he could lead them on. It could be a secret that many people suspected and a few people knew. Brady could hold it over him.

by Anonymousreply 233June 21, 2017 1:25 PM

I don't think I have the stomach to watch it. To me, Bomer is a 21st century Cary Grant, he is debasing himself not for playing a transgendered person but in many of the roles he has chosen to play he has not been living up to his potential and this is one more example of this.

by Anonymousreply 234June 21, 2017 1:26 PM
To me, Bomer is a 21st century Cary Grant, he is debasing himself

No, Duckling is Duckling. All his roles from Magic Mike to Transbomer are a testament to his Ducklingness; even Ryan Murphy sees this which is why he puts Bomer in these borderline insulting roles while giving better roles to Wes Bentley and Finn Wittrock.

by Anonymousreply 235June 21, 2017 1:47 PM

This is what has been going on for years in dealing with Hollywood's homophobia. Gay actors can't come out. Being encouraged to stay in the closet from homosexuals above and below the line. Straight men playing gay roles etc. All for the bottom line...

But isn't that the point of this website. It's not a fan site. I'm here because I like the contradictory comments. It's witty humor to me. And sometimes there really are some valid points. If it were all praise and love then it would be his Instagram.

by Anonymousreply 242June 21, 2017 3:24 PM

Oh sure, controversy and real criticism are great, but repetitively posting the same juvenile insults is not witty. Silly name calling and pointless disparagement are just annoying after a while. "Ducklingness" is an absurdity. It contributes nothing to the thread, especially when it is posted over and over again on every thread that has to do with Matt Bomer. If people were amused, they wouldn't keep calling you troll, dear.

This is not a fan site, but for there to be contradictory comments in a discussion, there have to be positive as well as negative points of view. This is not a Bomer bashing site, either.

by Anonymousreply 243June 21, 2017 4:33 PM

I am not the troll dear! Just trying to keep the peace.

r243

I do agree that he looks and acts like a Duckling plus I'm glad someone spotted it, especially that surprised look he does all the time but I can see why it would annoy being said ALL the time.

People can criticize Bomer as well. You're a stan and gossip is no fun with stans. Bomer is letting himself become this machine like stepford husband and he needs to get called out on it. He needs to grow up and show some personality. I used to be a major fan but his lack of balls, daddy issues, ruining White Collar cause he was drooling over De Kay every 5 mins and now virtue signalling with this Trans project when all Trans people do is WHINE that they don't want men to represent them, well, it couldn't happen to a more fake guy!

Now that's an interesting reply, R245! We don't have to agree, but I think you make some good points there. I generally admire Matt Bomer, but I don't love everything he says or does.

I started this thread because I'm interested in the trans controversy about what looks like it will be a good movie. I wonder if that movie will be successful or even released for the public, and also whether this controversy will bleed over into his other projects. When he came out to the public as gay, the DL consensus was that he would never be able to get a straight leading man role, but that's what he has in The Last Tycoon.

by Anonymousreply 246June 21, 2017 5:10 PM

Thanks R245. Although I am not the Duckling guy or Botox guy and also mostly admire Bomer. Calling everyone a Troll is not cool either. So let's agree to disagree. Here is my peace offering for the 100 degree heat today.

by Anonymousreply 249June 21, 2017 10:00 PM

What's the deal with the twitter user with the name Bomerholic? he always likes her tweets, she is sending him her photos now, I would be a bit afraid if I was him.

by Anonymousreply 250June 22, 2017 1:19 AM

Yes but as long as you defended him from the transes you are good in his book.

by Anonymousreply 251June 22, 2017 1:21 AM

She is an online stalker.

by Anonymousreply 252June 22, 2017 1:23 AM

Yes, probably.

by Anonymousreply 253June 22, 2017 2:00 AM

She sends him multiple tweets and comments on Instagram, I don't know how he's not freaking out.

by Anonymousreply 254June 22, 2017 2:08 AM

Darling, Duckling got into this Twitter war mess because he was SEARCHING for his name on Twitter.

He's probably as crazy as her.

by Anonymousreply 255June 22, 2017 2:12 AM

All the crazy ones are on there. Hoping for a retweet or reply. I was actually wondering if he replied to random fans? It's kinda creepy.

by Anonymousreply 256June 22, 2017 2:12 AM

How do you know he was searching his name? and what twitter war mess are you talking about? he never engaged in arguments with the trans.

by Anonymousreply 257June 22, 2017 2:18 AM

Duckling craves an audience of adoring sycophants. Their mental health is irrelevant.

by Anonymousreply 259June 22, 2017 2:24 AM

R257 people who had tweeted stuff that was unfavorable to him were tweeting that they were blocked by him, even though their tweets did not include the @.

by Anonymousreply 260June 22, 2017 2:24 AM

He apparently searched for negative tweets and blocked those peeps. Then followed the fans who defended him.

by Anonymousreply 261June 22, 2017 2:27 AM

I bet that every celebrity searches its own name on twitter and google.

by Anonymousreply 262June 22, 2017 2:32 AM

He is handling his fans on Twitter the same way other celebs do. He has met a few of them in person that are Pres of his fan clubs, etc. They are not any crazier than any other fans. He has stepped up his tweets of XO & โค๏ธlately In reply to requests, somewhere between 5-10 a day, but not every day. Presumably it is part of his visibility campaign to encourage an audience for TLT. He has never mentioned trans or the movie Anything.

The incident with the trans was last August when Jen Richards sent her first complaint. He was attending his grandfather's funeral in TX at the time and, for a few hours, he blocked anything to do with the trans controversy. Then he unblocked and followed some of the fans. Jen said he called her and they had a nice conversation. He follows a little over a thousand people and that number has not dramatically changed. He has more than 600,000 followers.

by Anonymousreply 263June 22, 2017 2:56 AM

Matt only got on Twitter after WC had been on for several yrs. He just started an Instagram account a month or so ago. He doesn't post anything very personal. It's a pr tool.

by Anonymousreply 264June 22, 2017 3:23 AM
He was attending his grandfather's funeral in TX at the time and, for a few hours, he blocked anything to do with the trans controversy.

So he was at the funeral, searching and blocking. Jesus.

by Anonymousreply 265June 22, 2017 3:27 AM

Wasn't this storyline covered in The Crying Game? Besides. I only want to see Bomer as a man. He is beautiful as a man, but ugly as a woman.

by Anonymousreply 266June 22, 2017 3:30 AM

R266 IKR! Nothing more has come up about the movie. I have a feeling we will never see it anyway.

by Anonymousreply 267June 22, 2017 4:09 AM

R265 You took that very literally, didn't you? I don't know exactly what time the funeral was and what time Matt was on Twitter. I bet he didn't have to search as he was probably alerted about Jen's rant. It's possible he didn't even do it himself. A pr rep could have done it for him.

R266 Well, all movies with a man playing a woman are exactly the same, aren't they? You know, Matt has been criticized here on DL for being too pretty to play substantive characters. Guess that won't be a problem in Anything.

R267 Yeah, it premiered on Sat and we haven't heard anything else about it for a day or two, so I guess it's all over now! We didn't hear anything about the movie from Sept until the premiere was announced about a month ago, though. If they were going to pull it, why not announce that and take credit for being so sensitive to the trans complaints?

Information on Irving Thalberg, producer for MGM, married to Norma Shearer. Grammer' character Brady is based on Louis Meyer.
He and Mayer had completely different personalities, and approached the business of picure making from opposite directions, with Mayer doing the business management and Thalberg taking charge of making the 'product', but together they made a formidable combination. Their partnership over the next decade made MGM the pre-eminent Hollywood studio and one of the few studios to remain profitable through the years of the Great Depression.

LOL! The Advocate mocking Matt Bomer. Mr Peabody's days as the horse whisperer of LGBT issues for Hollywood are truly over.

by Anonymousreply 293June 22, 2017 10:39 AM

BTW, Fitzgerald worked for them as writer and that's how the book was inspired. It was never finished and was not published during his lifetime. That's why it leaves plenty of room for improvisation on the story from the initial setup. The story is told from the point of view of Brady's daughter Cecelia (played by Lily Collins) who is a college aged girl with a crush on Stahr.

by Anonymousreply 300June 22, 2017 11:13 AM

R295 what does "trans" takeover have to do with this? If anything Mr Peabody should have known that increased trans visibility on LGBT organizations would be the death knell for this movie. This is what he was KNOWN for and why people PAID him money for his advice on LGBT issues.

by Anonymousreply 301June 22, 2017 11:19 AM

R299 That's great! Maybe time will produce more thoughtful perspectives like this instead of knee jerk rejections.

by Anonymousreply 302June 22, 2017 11:45 AM

R301 Simon is not Matt's publicist, remember? (Your Mr Peabody crap has gotten very old and unfunny.) You might want to read the article about the timeframe of the Anything movie at R299.

by Anonymousreply 303June 22, 2017 11:52 AM

Mr Peabody is not his publicist, he is his HUSBAND

Bomer had the counsel of an LGBT issues "expert" at his bedside, and he still made the movie.

by Anonymousreply 304June 22, 2017 12:15 PM

Really?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 305June 22, 2017 1:56 PM

So ASSUMING Matt only does what his husband tells him, Simon as an LGBT expert should have advised Matt to give in to trans politics rather than take a an interesting and challenging role offered to him by his friend Mark Ruffalo? Maybe Simon & Matt believe, as many posters here do, that the trans are being unreasonable and actors should play the roles they want to, even if their choice isn't popular with everyone. Maybe it will not turn out to be a big mistake after all.

by Anonymousreply 306June 22, 2017 7:32 PM

If hypothetical Matt had listened to hypothetical Simon, hypothetical Matt wouldn't have been disinvited from throwing out the pitch at the Dodger's game.

by Anonymousreply 307June 22, 2017 7:44 PM

R300 Matt has mentioned in a number of interviews that he read The Day of the Locust by Nathaniel West when they first started making Last Tycoon and he took inspiration from that as well as the Fitzgerald book. Here is a fascinating description and review of that book. It was made into a movie in 1975 starring William Atherton, Karen Black, Donald Sutherland, and Geraldine Page.

by Anonymousreply 330June 23, 2017 12:17 PM

Wow - rave review. Too bad they spell Bomer wrong! No mention of the trans- cis- controversy.
Freda is a wall of sound and fury in the hands of Matt Boomer. Her quick aggressive responses show her years of distrust and misuse at the hands of others. Boomer plays Freda as though sheโ€™s been scraped across the concrete by the world, finding herself jagged and used. McNeil never succumbs to playing Freda as a visual gag or a means to an end. Rather Boomer is allowed to create a fully-realized character; she is not simply a statement to rest an ideal on.
Anything is a balancing act of humor, humanity and small intimate moments. The film carries with it a compassion and heart that is enough to melt even the most jaded of viewers if open to the experience. There is neither bombast nor flag waving in Anything. In the end, itโ€™s about those basic human truths we all strive for and need: love, compassion, understanding and someone to stand by us no matter what. In 2017 few (if any) films will carry that message better than Anything.

Man up and show people who you really are! Matt was one of the few actors gay or straight who was genuinely liked and organically respected but he's thrown out all that good will to behave like some frigging boy scout and to only do TV or projects involved with bl**dy Ryan Murphy!

Why is he so SCARED?

I hope the Trans project fails and they protest the film. It will teach him a harsh lesson. If you are a part of a community and you smugly think that makes you better then others, then do as they say!

I could see Murphy casting Duckling as Alan, the flattest and most cipher-like character in the group. It's in keeping with the other kinds of roles Murphy has given him.

Interesting information - According to this UCLA study apparently the number of people in the US who self-identify as transgender has doubled since 2011. Still, not a large pool, especially when you break it down by age.

National and State-Level Estimates of Transgender-Identifed Adults
An estimated 0.6% of adults, about 1.4 million, identify as transgender in the United States. States vary in the percentage of residents who identify as transgender (See Table 1). Hawaii has the highest percentage of adults who identify as transgender, approximately 0.8% of adults, and North Dakota has the lowest percentage, at 0.3%. The District of Columbia is notable for its relatively high percentage of transgender-identi ed adults (2.8%).6. Twenty states and the District of Columbia are estimated to have a higher percentage of transgender-identifed adults than the national average.

Estimates of Transgender-Identifed Adults by Age
Prior research suggests that individuals who identify as transgender are younger, on average, than non-transgender individuals. As expected, we found that younger adults are more likely than older adults to identify as transgender. An estimated 0.7% of adults between the ages of 18 and 24 identify as transgender. Lower percentages of older adults identify as transgender, with 0.6% of adults age 25 to 64 and 0.5% of adults age 65 or older identifying as transgender.

Let's not turn this into a trans thread!

I like the guy who is mad at Matt for following people who put him down, but says Matt follows him even though he puts Matt down all the time. I guess this is the same guy who is so worked up about Matt's choices in his career, his marriage & appearance.

by Anonymousreply 376June 27, 2017 2:53 AM

The TV Guide interview was really good. He seemed very natural and relaxed.

by Anonymousreply 377June 27, 2017 2:58 AM

R374 Alan is the only straight guy in the ensemble and he is quite interesting. What even? lol

by Anonymousreply 378June 27, 2017 9:15 AM

R374 = idiot. Alan lives a straight life but his sexuality is always intended to be ambiguous. A common interpretation is that he means to come out when he visits Michael but is scared back into the closet when he sees how horrible the gay men are to each other. He is a cipher character, a blank canvas.

by Anonymousreply 379June 27, 2017 10:24 AM

Or cipher (Normal Heart)

Bomer should make a similar statement. "I'm trans except for not wanting physical tits and a vaj."

by Anonymousreply 408July 8, 2017 11:55 AM

The trouble is, if gay actors take gay roles, then everyone will say that's all they can play. It's a ridiculous idea that someone can't play a role unless he has experienced what the character has. (So, you know, like soldiers should play soldiers, Wall Street tycoons should play tycoons, doctors should play docs, etc.) Sort of takes all the art and imagination out of it, doesn't it? Theater is supposed to be about an illusion of reality; not simply a recording of real life.

Why should gay actors be forced to perpetuate this lie? Where's the gay male equivalent of Nell Harper to say "don't you realize you're making fun of gay people" to Matt Damon's Joey-Lawrence-in-blackface caliber HBO gayface followed by telling gay actors to stay in the closet?

Oh, and [italic]Myra Breckinridge[/italic] was a warning, not an instruction manual. Gay actors need to demand more and better gay roles and demand that gay roles go to gay actors. Enough is enough.

He also will be directing an episode of Versace for Ryan Murphy.

โ€œI will say that in the past couple of months Iโ€™ve really realized that itโ€™s OK to not say yes to everything,โ€ he continues. โ€œItโ€™s OK to take your time as an artist and pull in the purse strings and wait for something that really hits you with a thump in the heart. by Anonymousreply 432July 26, 2017 6:47 PM

TM = Transcendental Meditation. His husband Simon is supposedly Buddhist, but I don't think Matt is. He's just an enthusiastic practitioner and proponent of meditation. He definitely doesn't ever say he is an active Christian believer as an adult.

Are you kidding? He WORSHIPS "Stefani."

by Anonymousreply 435July 26, 2017 7:42 PM
I think he is embarrassed by his role in AHS with that stupid orgy with the stupid Gaga.

It's telling that he hasn't been back since that season on screen. He did a quick voice over in AHS: Roanoke but that was uncredited and he's never commented on it. He likely won't be appearing this season on AHS either but he also mentioned that he's limited in what he can do because of his contract with Amazon.

It was interesting that he mentioned he'll be directing an episode of Versace and the project he's been hinting at doing in NYC in theatre may also be a Murphy production.

Overall this was the most open and honest interview he has given in a long time. No repeated stories that he's regurgitated multiple times. There was a bit of personality there. It's refreshing.

by Anonymousreply 436July 26, 2017 7:57 PM

He mentions losing out on Thoroughly Modern Millie all the time. That was twenty years ago and he was only up for the role because he was screwing the choreographer.

by Anonymousreply 437July 26, 2017 8:09 PM

He's obviously disappointed with AHS, he signed up for a role opposite Jessica Lange and ended up with Lady Gaga! I would be disappointed too.

by Anonymousreply 438July 26, 2017 11:11 PM

He probably has been heavily influenced in his career choices by his friends (and his husband). Most of them are older and more experienced than he is plus they offered him opportunities. Ryan Murphy, Mark Ruffalo, Channng Tatum. He also likes to become friends with people he works with (like Stefani). AHS and Magic Mike made him very well known. He never mentions his tv shows like Chuck, Traveler, or Tru Calling or movies like Space Station 76 , Flightplan, etc. He has at least managed to be a working actor most of the time. Billy Ray says Matt is the only actor he considered for Last Tycoon, but he never says why. Did they already know each other?

by Anonymousreply 439July 27, 2017 12:10 AM

R439 Yes, they did. Billy Ray and Matt Bomer met years ago. Billy wrote the script for Flightplan.

by Anonymousreply 440July 27, 2017 12:19 AM

By "doing favors for friends" does he mean Ruffalo and Murphy?

by Anonymousreply 441July 27, 2017 12:21 AM

I would imagine he is referring to Ruffalo, since Murphy is still providing work which he takes,

Here's the thing: Bomer and Halls are both huge cocksuckers for anyone higher on the Hollywood food chain than them. Anyone with two brain cells could have told Bomer it was a terrible idea to play trans, but ooooooooh Mark Ruffalo. So there we have that.

by Anonymousreply 442July 27, 2017 1:55 AM

Yup! I truly think they have listed the Tranny Movie as a DO NOT ASK topic for interviews. It is literally dead.

by Anonymousreply 443July 27, 2017 1:59 AM

think Bomer is talking about saying no to certain roles, Murphy, Ruffalo, Channing. He is directing for Murphy not acting on AHS. Btw what's wrong with role? So many actors have won awards. It's a dream role. The political climate right now is bad, that's all.

by Anonymousreply 444July 27, 2017 2:48 AM

If he regrets his role in Anything, it is probably only because of the political fallout. It would have been a challenging role and the critics who saw the movie liked it. Too bad the rest of us won't get a chance to see it.

by Anonymousreply 445July 27, 2017 5:20 AM

I bet he's amazing in Anything ( and in anything) too bad the trans activism killed this movie before it came out. I would LOVE to see it. I'm sure he put his heart and soul into it like he did in The Normal Heart.

by Anonymousreply 448July 27, 2017 8:01 AM

Jesus Christ, learn to read. He said "over ten years." I don't know why the fuck he's so paranoid about telling people he's been with Mr Peabody since 2004, nobody gives a fuck that he stole him away from David Burtka.

Same interview over and over. Artist artist artist.

by Anonymousreply 449July 27, 2017 10:29 AM

Halls was never Bomer's publicist in an official capacity. Once Bomer actually needed a publicist for White Collar, Halls assigned him to Jennifer Allen who was an underling at PMKHBH. Then when that agency imploded, Allen kept him as a client when she went on to start her own agency.

Bomer hooked up two friends, Zachary Quinto and Lee Pace, with Halls for PR. They both fired him.

by Anonymousreply 450July 27, 2017 10:33 AM

Does Bomer know that Ruffalo is a big fan of Linda Cockroach?

by Anonymousreply 451July 27, 2017 10:52 AM

Of course Bomer only regrets Anything because of the political fallout. Surely his agents/managers with all their breadth of experience, would have warned him against taking a trans prostitute role in this climate, after what Jared Leto went through. But noooo, Mark Ruffalo needed his cock sucked (metaphorically) so he took the role.

Same thing with Magic Mike 2, Bomer actually had some leverage with that film because they needed him, you think he could have insisted that he get written some funny scenes. But no, Channing needed his cock sucked, so he settled for warbling out those two songs and as a result his big finale he does with microphone wires coming out of his ass.

by Anonymousreply 452July 27, 2017 10:53 AM

by Anonymousreply 453July 27, 2017 10:59 AM

The twins are 9 and kit is 12. The article originally said Matt and Simon have been together for 10 years but, has since been updated. It now says together for over 10 years.

by Anonymousreply 454July 27, 2017 11:15 AM

I really would have liked to see this movie too. It's really sad it couldn't be viewed as just a love story.

As I read these different interviews and reviews it saddens me that he is referred to as an out gay actor and not just an actor. I wonder if we will ever see the day when all those labels will be dropped.

R448 The article from r447 stated he used to represent him. ๐Ÿค”

by Anonymousreply 455July 27, 2017 2:15 PM

That's a great article! I think it's pretty obvious that in 2004 he got together with Simon, and came out to his family, and had his first (Simon's) child. He has talked in other interviews about how that changed his life. It fits with his career history, too. They seem amazingly happy with each other after so many years together. He tries hard to balance his personal & professional life in an authentic way. For him, being gay is just part of who he is, not a "lifestyle." He seems more comfortable with himself in recent interviews, less rehearsed, maybe because he will be 40 yrs old this Fall.

by Anonymousreply 456July 27, 2017 3:03 PM

If the article stated that he used to represent him, it was never in any official capacity (not saying he didn't do pro bono work). When Bomer got together with Mr Peabody, he was so minor (just off Tru Calling) he would not have needed/been able to afford a top Hollywood publicist.

by Anonymousreply 457July 27, 2017 5:03 PM

They seem like a solid couple. Would love to hear a joint interview some day. I wish being gay wasn't such a taboo for an actor.

Duckling troll symptoms are flaring up lmfao. R471 Having a hard time with boners eh? don't blame it on Bomer lmao.

Bomer says โ€œItโ€™s OK to take your time as the gay artist and pull the purse strings and wait for something that really hits you in the butt with a hump in the hole by Simon to recover."

That was a deeply honest interview from an artist.

R429 He always blame others for things he didn't get. He's such a weak character.
To me, Bomer is a 21st century Cary Grant, he is debasing himself -No, Duckling is Duckling. All his roles from Magic Mike to Transbomer are a testament to his Ducklingness; even Ryan Murphy sees this which is why he puts Bomer in these borderline insulting roles while giving better roles to Wes Bentley and Finn Wittrock.

Makes more sense on why he was namedropping his puberty orgy partner Gaga as "Stefani", to feel more serious, more adult.

I WANT TO SEE ANYTHING!

Ok, guys, you can go back to trash talking now.

Okay, now that the movie is available to watch online, has anyone seen it? Was Matt credible? Was the movie well written? What about the other characters? Is it worth seeing?

I thought the acting was okay, but the plot was unbelievable. This grieving newly widowed insurance aged from Mississippi moves to Los Angeles at the insistence of his overbearing sister after he attempts suicide. He then decides to move into a sleazy apartment in Hollywood where his neighbors are drug addicts and prostitutes and he falls in love with a trans. When he tries to introduce her to his sister and her family, things go badly. Really???

(No spoilers. You can get that much from the trailer.)

by Anonymousreply 480August 5, 2018 5:31 AM

OK, SPOILER: So it seems that the widower โ€œlovesโ€ the trans and is relatively unconcerned about what their sexual relationship will be like as long as itโ€™s โ€œfun.โ€ They never even kiss, so where the passion is coming from is a mystery. The sister acts like a total bitch, but she does kind of have a point about her brotherโ€™s naรฏvetรฉ. Meanwhile the whole heroin dealer-victim sidestory seems pointless. Itโ€™s unclear why any of these people care about each other, if they really even do.

You know thereโ€™s a problem when the most attractive character is a drug dealer. Micah Hauptmann plays David.
