Krystle is now the Latina Cristal, the actress playing Fallon seems better than Emma Samms if not as good as Pamela Sue Martin, and Steven actually gets to touch boys.
The boy he touches is Cristal's nephew, Sammy Joe.
All this, plus a catfight.

Steven got more cock in that trailer than he got in 8 years on ABC.

Chick playing Fallon reminds me of Lindsay Lohan. She's not even Emma Samms much less Pamela Sue Martin. Ugh typical CW shit. It'll be gone in probably a month.

It's Rafael De La Fuente playing the gay character's love interest again. I've only seen him play gay roles but he hasn't officially come out right? I think he has always tried to stay silent on his sexuality which is silly.
I'll have to check this out. Not expecting it to be great, just hope it will be entertaining.

by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 12, 2017 4:04 AM |
R18, Only briefly. At the beginning when Fallon is setting up the story, they show a flashback Home movie of a young Fallon and Steven. He’s playing the theme on the piano in the flashback. I doubt that part will say in every show.
The show really sucks.

Fallon was the only good part of this version.
Everything else just sucks. This is a cheap imitation of the original that doesn’t have the intelligence of “Revenge”.

lt could almost be good... except it isn't. The house is atrocious. The Carringtons all had a veneer of respectability..... they were trying to fake class and did not a bad job of it some of the time. The first two or three seasons of the show told a real story and then went down camp hill. This series has just rushed to the camp phase. There's not a lot to it.

Lord, it's such a train wreck. I don't even know where to start. There is nothing original. The stories are straight from the 80s show. And re-written with lousy, clicheed dialogues. Why even bother? The pilot had no surprising element. Bad acting couldn't save it. Everything was to be expected. So why did they even do this? Did somebody need a major write-off?
by Anonymous | reply 46 | October 14, 2017 3:09 PM |
The actress who plays Crystal has no presence. Linda at least had those wings and her twisty figure. This Crystal has a wonky eye.

And to think just a couple of months ago DLers were complaining that it was too [italic]different[/italic] from the original. A Hispanic Crystal!! A black Jeff Colby!!! A male Sammy Jo!!!
I actually thought they had done a good job of mixing older plot elements (slutty Fallon's resentment of Crystal, Cristal's immediate rapport with Steven) with more modern topics (fracking, being gay without shame).
it apparently hemorrhaged its lead in from that Riverdale show.
As The CW had to know would happen. It's going to have to find it's audience. Much as Supergirl is a better fit on CW than on CBS, Dynasty would do better on another channel. Devious Maids lasted four seasons on Lifetime. Dallas lasted three seasons on TNT and might have lasted longer had Larry Hagman not died.

Dynasty is a known property, this is a show they were hoping would have a lot of people tuning at first out of curiosity if nothing else. They gave it the best possible time-slot by putting it after the premiere of their Riverdale hit. Those ratings were disappointing. Period. It can't really be spun.

Only season 1 of Revenge was written intelligently, R63.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | October 15, 2017 12:29 PM |
Same with the OC really, it was pretty entertaining at first and fell off fast. There is a reason that even though the show was a break out hit during season 1 it didn't last that long.
But yeah, "Revenge" especially is a textbook example of a show falling off a cliff after one season. Yikes.

The repetitive storylines certainly didn't help.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | October 15, 2017 3:25 PM |
The problem with The O.C. Is how quickly it burnt through storylines. By S2 it was tough not to be repetitive.
I recently binged all 4 seasons (I only saw the first season and a half when it originally aired), and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised with how the show regained its footing by Season 4. They got rid of some two-dimensional characters/actors (Marisa) and brought in some new blood.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | October 15, 2017 3:51 PM |
I never liked Marissa and was glad she got killed off. The Ryan/Marissa relationship was the definition of co dependent. And it was always the same shit. They're together and then she'd start paying attention to some new guy, being completely oblivious to their crush on her and then it would end in tears.

Apparently the poor ratings don't matter to CW, expect this show to keep going.
“Dynasty” opened to meager ratings last week. It lost more than half of its lead-in audience from “Riverdale” and finished with just a 0.3 rating among adults 18-49. On another network, that’s disastrous. On The CW, with this particular property, it simply doesn’t matter. Let Les Moonves, the head of CW part-owner (and “Dynasty” producer) CBS Corp., explain why: “A great recent example of the power of owning content is the new version of Dynasty that will premiere this fall on The CW. We own 100 percent of the show, and we’ve already licensed it to Netflix in 188 countries. … So this means ‘Dynasty’ is profitable before it even hits the air.”

Most of the casting/reimagining has been good but a fugly Jeff Colby in music streaming--is he supposed to be Camel Face Jay-Z ?--was a mistake.
However, Alexis has already been mentioned so it's far from impossible that her cousin Sable will appear at some point. Her beef with Alexis could be related to issues other than Jason Colby.

by Anonymous | reply 90 | October 19, 2017 2:09 AM |
Claudiaaaaaaaa............!!!!!!!
by Anonymous | reply 91 | October 19, 2017 2:10 AM |
Matthew Blaisdel was a nothing character on the original show. Mainly because John Forstyhe insisted that Blake and Krystle would never cheat on each other.
No loss in losing Matthew, though it would be great if somehow he was Sammy Joe's father with Crystal. But both actors are too young to be Sam's parents.
Claudia Blaisdel was a major character, though I thought she was mostly tiresome, with only a few good scenes, like accidentally throwing Fallon's baby (a doll, it turned out) off the roof. In the Warhol diaries, he laughed about how much he loved that episode because they showed "a real baby, with its head bouncing around." I haven't seen it in years but it does seem it was a real baby, to fool the audience...Or maybe Claudia switched it for the doll at some point. Was this kid L.B., Little Blake?

The woman in OP's link was on "Sex & Drugs & Rock'n'Roll", Dennis Leary's FX show about a rock band, she's basically a Broadway singer/actress. I guess since she's now on this series "Sex, Drugs & Rock'n'Roll" isn't coming back for another season, the show was pretty good.
What I think is missing is a "good girl". All the female characters are written as hyper gutsy, ballsy and sexually charged. There's no-one to deflect all of that.
I think that has been a problem with soaps in general the last number of years. I now the good guy and woman characters are more boring, but you need them to relate to and balance off the other characters. Soaps have always had their shocking moments and cliff hangers, but they also used to have some heart and more real emotional moments as well. Those have tended to disappear or have been minimized the last ten to 20 years.

(R122) That's very true. While I watching the show I couldn't help but think that the character Cristal would be so much more interesting if she wasn't just another sassy, gold digger, but rather a woman with a shady past that she has fought to leave behind and gone on to make something of her life. A rreformed bad girl who is keeps getting dragged back to her past and is worried about being exposed and losing all the positive progress she's made.

Are you watching the show? We're only two episodes in and that is exactly where they're going with the character. There's been no indication she's only into money. She has feelings still for her former, married lover but so did Krystle. And unlike Krystle, Crystal is more than a secretary; it's a little more believable that the boss would marry his head of PR.
Now, Sammy Joe is probably mostly into Steven's money but he may develop real feelings. I hope so, anyway.
As for being "a woman with a shady past," that's been pretty well established by both Anders and Sammy Joe.

Here’s an idea... how about Alyssa Milano or Tiffani Thiessen for Alexis?
by Anonymous | reply 129 | October 21, 2017 5:14 AM |
Joan Collins blew the doors off the show when she joined in the first episode of the second season. A real professional with looks and style and an actual personality. Everyone had to step up their game once she came onboard.
Who in the world can they get nowadays to bring the larger-than-life, movie star glamour that the show really needs
by Anonymous | reply 130 | October 21, 2017 6:06 AM |
Nicole Kidman would make a great Alexis, but she’s too big for the CW

Shannon Doherty would be funny casting as Alexis, but I don't know how her health is now.
Was Grant Show better or worse (acting wise) on Melrose Place??
I haven't watched this reboot yet, but I never thought Grant was a bad actor on Melrose. Of course, with Andrew Shue in the cast, it kind of made the rest of the guys look like Laurence Olivier by comparison.

Andrea Parker would be perfect Alexis.
it's a little more believable that the boss would marry his head of PR.
Except head of PR to COO at an extractive company is never gonna happen.... it's a technical job.
I just wish the house weren't so crap cheap and I think the show still misses the pretensions to grandeur that Blake Carrington (and the Shapiros) aspired to in the first season. Blake was about looking/acting like old money and these people just have the biggest McMansion on the block. The use of the word 'manor' makes me cringe every time I hear it.
But I gotta say, for what it is, it's actually really good. I laughed out loud several times... I like the movement of the Fallon character away from daddy's girl crying for attention to daddy's girl going to war for daddy's attention. And I like tough Cristal. Overall, I like the edge of these characters. If they could have fused the best of season 1 with the edge of this series it could have been an HBO show.
Anyway, it's good fun. Laughed out loud at the grave scene. I can't believe this show is nowhere nearly as bad as I thought it would be.
No loss in losing Matthew, though it would be great if somehow he was Sammy Joe's father with Crystal. But both actors are too young to be Sam's parents.
Wasn't Stephanie Beacham only like five years older than Tracey Scoggins?
I didn't know he was nude (did I miss something?)
There's a very brief shot of his ass when he got out of the pool.
What I think is missing is a "good girl". All the female characters are written as hyper gutsy, ballsy and sexually charged. There's no-one to deflect all of that.
Isn't Steven the good girl here? He's the only one who doesn't really seem to have an agenda.

Not sure this show needs an Alexis. Anders is basically Alexis.
by Anonymous | reply 139 | October 21, 2017 2:09 PM |
They should go for Heather Locklear as Alexis, they can afford Heather. If they wanted to go with a goof, Daphne Zuniga. Personally, I think this show is a great reflection of what Americans consider "wealth" to be these days. Remember, we are living in an age where not an insignificant amount of Americans think DJT and his horrible family is what wealth and class is about. This is right in line with this delusion of what wealth and class is.
And on one final shallow note, I wish both Stephen and Sammy Jo were hotter. Out of all the actors in LA, they couldn't find one that looked like a young Grant Show and Latin Dude that was scorching hot? Quite frankly, I think Fallon could be prettier, but that Stephen... eek.
They should go for Heather Locklear as Alexis, they can afford Heather.
I was thinking Heather was the right age to be Grant's first wife and could play the part, but after looking so good for so long didn't she mess up her face a few years ago. Similarly, after seeming like she really had her act together for so long, hasn't she shown some signs that she might not be the most stable the last few years (drinking etc)?
by Anonymous | reply 142 | October 21, 2017 2:28 PM |
I don't think they really care about stars on the show. Grant Show is about the most recognizable. But they'll probably just cast for publicity anyway. The thing is, the actress who plays Cristal does play her tough and with an edge, so the actress playing Alexis will need to be able hold her own... I don't think Locklear has the chops.... she's got that soft voice, limited range, she can play a mean girl but I don't think she can play a ballsy Alexis or Sable type.

This show has about as much in common with Dynasty as Twin Peaks: The Return had in common with Twin Peaks.
The difference is this show is far better at entertaining.
by Anonymous | reply 145 | October 21, 2017 3:59 PM |
I'll give them a break on the sets as compared to the original. As was pointed out upthread, the budget isn't the same. In the first episode, they showed an aerial view of the house and it's quite big. The indoor sets seem scaled down compared to the exterior.
As for Steven, he's cute in some shots. I think a truly hot Steven--both rich and drop-dead gorgeous--would be too secure to hook up with an obvious hustler like Sammy Joe.

He'd still be a bottom, and therefore would need to take whatever top offered.
by Anonymous | reply 147 | October 21, 2017 4:43 PM |
I enjoyed it, it's trashy fun. However, I did think it looked quite cheap - that house they're living in is basically a McMansion and the set design is less sumptuous than the old show. I was quite surprised that it was shot on a set as the acoustics were pretty terrible and made the whole thing look cheap, as well as the decor, which was very nouveau riche.
It also doesn't make sense that a family that wealthy would live in Atlanta, but then the Carringtons living in Denver never made sense either.
I liked Fallon being more of a bitch but still a massive slut. Grant Show is still hot in his 50s. Sammy Jo was clearly written by a gay man as he's a quintessential young gay. Steven is annoyingly pussified, even more so than the original. Jeff is also totally gay. The chauffeur has a really nice body.
I was disappointed to see Claudia. She infected the old show like antibiotic resistant chlamydia, I hope she doesn't do the same again.

I don't know, for some reason it feels like there are only four characters on the show.
by Anonymous | reply 155 | October 22, 2017 2:31 PM |
I was thinking on it tonight... one of the flaws is that Fallon in this show (so far) shows none of the vulnerability of the character as written in the original. Fallon was a spoiled child and a hedonist but she adored her father... right that they should take the character in a different direction but I don't quite understand her motivation. Is she actually her mother's child.... resentful of Blake? Why is she hard? Greed? She's not fleshed out.
by Anonymous | reply 156 | October 25, 2017 1:05 AM |
I have no clue who they'll cast as Alexis or how they will write the character. In the last episode Blake described her as both a reader of feminist books and having tried to launch a line of lip fillers or some such.

by Anonymous | reply 160 | October 28, 2017 2:44 AM |
I've always liked Grant Show, but he isn't good in this. He doesn't have the gravitas to play Blake Carrington.
If they are going to center the show around Fallon, they need a stronger actress. Or at least give Elizabeth Gillies an on-set acting coach to help her get through these scenes. Her line readings are the same for every scene -- all flat, no emotion. Heaven forbid if they gave her any lines with subtext -- she'd never get through such a scene.
The show also needs to slow down a little bit. They seem to be rushing from scene to scene without giving time for an emotional beat, even if that beat is just to appreciate the campiness of something that was just said.
by Anonymous | reply 161 | October 28, 2017 6:08 AM |
This show is so low-rent in every way. It's not even fun enough to laugh at.
by Anonymous | reply 162 | October 28, 2017 6:25 AM |
It is cheaply done and that's evident. I quite like Gillies. Even though the focus is on Cristal and Fallon, I agree Show doesn't have the gravitas for the part. More than that, though, all the characters just seem to be present and doing things, but without any motivation. The central conflicts in season 1 were Blake/Krystle/Fallon and then Blake/Steven and then Matthew/Krystle/Blake and to a lesser extent Krystle/Joseph. This Cristal seems tougher so you'd think she'd be pushing to shit can Joseph by now. He's got a mouth on him. When they bring on Alexis they will have the same problem for Fallon they had back then: one bitch too many. They should make Fallon hate both Krystle and Alexis, as they should have done back then.
by Anonymous | reply 163 | October 28, 2017 2:56 PM |
The house set doesn't have any gravitas, either.
by Anonymous | reply 164 | October 28, 2017 3:03 PM |
One of my biggest issues wit this show is casting and the lack of hot guys.
Given that it's set in Atlanta, I have no issue with Jeff Colby being black. However, with all the fine black men in LA and Atlanta, you mean to tell me that they couldn't find one hot black guy to play a pivotal role like Jeff Colby? Think about a Drake type in that role.
Stephen is just down right ugly. They should have gotten someone like Robbie Amell.
I think Grant Show is just fine for the Blake role. But that Jeff and Stephen need to go.

No, the Carringtons in the original series were never old money, the plot lines and scripts showed that from the beginning.... Blake was a self-made man. But the veneer of respectability was (in the first and second season where Blake was more of a hard ass) very important to him. But it was a character driver. They aren't even trying here. It's just a big house. And ugly.

I have watched it a couple of times. For what it is, it is not too bad. I think Fallon would benefit from showing more of an underlying vulnerability or hurt. She just seems all attitude and snarky comments without a lot of real substance or emotions (although I have missed a number of episodes, so I might have missed some of those moments).
I appreciate the nods to the original show, but I think Claudia would have been one element they should have left to the 1980's. She kind of sucks the air out of any scene I have seen her in, and they have to dumb down the characters around her to keep her in the plot.

I don't know about the USA, but Netflix is showing each episode as it airs in Australia.
by Anonymous | reply 217 | November 18, 2017 10:47 AM |
The Deadline article is confusing but it appears Dynasty will be on Netflix in the US:
"Dynasty is produced by CBS TV Studios. The deal for the show between CBS Studios International and Netflix follows a similar pact between the two companies for another reboot of a series with global name recognition: Star Trek: Discovery. The sci-fi drama, which will run on CBS’ streaming service CBS All Access in the U.S., will have Netflix as its exclusive premiere home in 188 countries (excluding the U.S. and Canada), with each episode available globally within 24 hours of its U.S. premiere.
Similarly, I hear Dynasty is expected to launch globally in the fall, premiering around the world on Oct. 11 simultaneously with its U.S. debut on the CW.
In anticipation of the Netflix deal, the Dynasty pilot was not shown to international buyers at the L.A. Screenings last month. With its heavy serialization, the soapy drama is considered a great fit for international distribution on a streaming platform.
The international deal compliments the domestic streaming pact Netflix has with the CW affiliated studios CBS TV Studios and Warner Bros. TV for library rights to all of the network’s scripted series, which also covers Dynasty."

The Fallon character is actually being developed... there's aspects to her.... Cristal is underdeveloped (like usual.) I though the show was supposed to be about Fallon and Cristal more this time and the tension between them, but Fallon seems to be pulling away toward the Fallon show. Steven, as usual, is a big Zzzzzzz..... Sammy Jo is basically somebody for Cristal to talk to. Wonder what they'll do with Alexis. They almost don't need her. And she's been mentioned so much there isn't a lot of mystery to her. Just like with Pamela Sue Martin, the arrival of Alexis could kill the Fallon character.
Still think that house is shit. They was mention a couple shows back of how Tom Carrington had lived there. It's a McMansion... Tom Carrington didn't live there.

by Anonymous | reply 223 | November 18, 2017 5:37 PM |
I dont think some of the posters are using the term McMansion properly. Wikipedia describes it as:
In suburban communities, McMansion is a pejorative term for a large "mass-produced" dwelling, constructed with low-quality materials and craftsmanship, using a mishmash of architectural symbols to invoke connotations of wealth or taste, executed via poorly thought-out exterior and interior design.
The house may not be to your taste but it's no McMansion. The overhead shot of it in the pilot showed it to be a substantial property.
Something like the Filoli mansion wouldn't be realistic today. Most rich people don't maintain such grand estates any longer. Actually, most didn't during the time of the original Dynasty. Filoli hasn't been a private residence since the 70s.

Alexis has to be played by a 50 year old Joan Collins type. Alyssa just quit a series because it moved location and Heather is a bit of a train wreck who hasn’t aged well and plus her character in MP was an Alexis copy. Bridget Fonda?

If you adopt the same age of Grant Show reasoning, among actresses born in 1962, making the actress 55 years old, are DL faves: Jennifer Jason Leigh, Demi Moore, Jodi ("Blake was so bad I'm going marry Cecile Colby") Foster, Daphne Zuniga, Ally Sheedy, Melissa Sue Anderson, Kristy ("Yum, Cecile Colby") McNicol, Janine Turner, Amanda ("I can't love Cecile Colby but I can play it on TV") Donohoe, Marcia Cross, Genie Francis, Alison Arngrim, Hunter Tylo, Jensen "Prior Commitment" Buchanan, Mary Kay Adams and, the natural front runner: Rosie O'Donnell as A-Lexus.
Never could you imagine so much aggressive lobbying for a B movie.

Whoever plays it, she's going to have to have gusto, because Collins is so indelibly imprinted on the part. It won't matter to new viewers, but almost all the media reviewers recall the original so it's got to measure up or there's bad press... and someone who measures up guarantees a fairly good round of free publicity. I bet the casting of this part has a new seriousness attached to the process.
I can't tell how they are going to reintroduce her as there is no mystery to her departure and her principal axe to grind was with Blake, who in this show is truthfully a fairly minor character. He's probably the part with the least to do and the least understanding of what he does. Sometimes I think I see a suggestion there will be a Blake murder trial to set up the entry of the Alexis character, either Blake arrested for Matthew's murder or maybe he does murder Dinard like the original too. Can't tell. And maybe it won't be that at all.

I've got the perfect Alexis: Catherine Zeta-Jones. At 48, she's old enough to have been married to Show and have adult children. She's certainly theatrical enough to play the flamboyant Alexis, and it would be a change for her.
Would she do It? It's not a prestige TV production like Feud but she may have fond memories of the original.
by Anonymous | reply 236 | November 19, 2017 2:35 PM |
Lol, you think Zeta-Jones wants to do some low rent CW show.

R237 You never know until you ask. Sophia Loren agreed to play original Alexis but wouldn't commit to a weekly show.
by Anonymous | reply 239 | November 19, 2017 3:22 PM |
I wonder if Loren regrets the decision. It was a lot of fun for Collins and pretty lucrative. Though to be honest, I can't see Loren giving the bravura performance that Collins did, in the early days. Any ham could have delivered season four onward.

Courtney Cox or Marcia Cross.

I loved Cross in Melrose and Desperate but can't picture what she'd bring to Alexis we haven't already seen.
If you wanted to play Alexis as cray-cray, hire CW alum Kelly Rutherford. She's the right age (born 1968) and it would be life imitating art - or vice versa - with the husband having received full custody of his son and daughter.
by Anonymous | reply 248 | November 19, 2017 8:08 PM |
Daphne Zuniga should play a snotty East Coast originating Alexis who despises Atlanta.
Like an evil Jo Beth Reynolds.

Tori Spelling as Alexis!!! Just recast Blake with the guy who played Ray and watch those ratings soar.

I'm loving that idea. Rutherford could play a great Alexis. But would anyone hire her, knowing how unstable she is?
by Anonymous | reply 256 | November 20, 2017 4:51 AM |
I think rather than hire an actress from the 80s/90s Arron Spelling stable they should go for someone who was iconic, but not necessarily a famous actress. Cindy Crawford could be a great choice. Still attractive and has some fashion cred. I'm not sure she's the best actress but no-one on the show can act all that well so that's clearly not a priority. As much as I like Heather Locklear, recent photos show her looking a bit tubby and matronly. Alexis has to be slim and hot.

by Anonymous | reply 283 | November 30, 2017 4:39 AM |
R283 Because they hated her and wished they'd been the one to slap her.
Granted, it clearly was an unhappy workplace on Desperate Housewives. There was a VF article that said even getting the main 4 together for a photo shoot was hell. (Sheridan wasn't invited IIRC but she wasn't considered a lead.)
The VF article implied Cross was the problematic bitch, causing Hatcher to run off in tears during the shoot.
Later, DL "insiders" said Hatcher was the impossible cunt, not Cross. Who knows?
There were definitely no stories about issues with FH or EL. When asked about on-set fights, Eva said "I'm just happy to be here."
For the Nicollette friend, she was no angel. Jealousy due to her "lesser" standing apparently made her cool, then cold, then cunty to her co-stars. They all were thrilled when she got killed off.
by Anonymous | reply 284 | November 30, 2017 5:16 AM |
LMAO at [R284]. You're misinformed. Nicollette WAS invited for the Vanity Fair Cover piece (photo is below). Would you risk losing your job and hefty salary because your colleague had an incident with your boss? I don't think so. That's why they didn't side with her.

Nicollette was one of the best things on DH (along with Harriet Sansom Harris), Teri Hatcher had a great chemistry with her and her best scenes on the show were with Sheridan. She was much more interesting than all of those cunts combined together.

[bold]BEST PRIMETIME SOAP
Dynasty[/bold]
While many people called this show a “stinker” and an insult to the original version of the 80’s, this CW torque is like a soap on steroids with all the clichés, the smut, the back-stabbing and double-crossings of a double-crossing. For some odd reason, we found it an enjoyable romp and an hour of escape amidst the same ole’ same ole’ on Empire and Nashville, two definitively more polished and more well-written shows. What is happening to us? LOL

R308 I was thinking it's bad news, too. It's not really a CW type of show.
R304 This character isn't Jeff Colby. They should have made his some scheming relative of Dominique. The whole Colby situation screws up possible developments like bring back Sable, though she could be Alexis' cousin but not a Colby.

by Anonymous | reply 314 | January 14, 2018 9:30 PM |
The shows back and another good episode. The past two episodes have been more self-contained, in that the major problem is resolved by the end of the show. Maybe long story arcs of the old soap variety are too hard to sustain. Even DOOL is resolving plots in days or weeks that, once upon a time, would have stretched on for months.
by Anonymous | reply 315 | January 31, 2018 8:05 AM |
The show's ratings are terrible, regardless of what Netflix/Moonves wants. Every decision was ill-conceived. Moving the show from Denver to Atlanta, Josh Schwartz, casting.

R316 For the time being, ratings aren't important. It will run a full season. Now, will it be renewed? Who knows?
by Anonymous | reply 318 | February 1, 2018 8:12 PM |
One thing I don't like about the show is that everyone is a liar, conniver, etc. Spelling famously said that he added Joan and James Farentino to the cast in season two because you had to throw in some cats with the pigeons. However, in this reboot, everyone is a cat.
by Anonymous | reply 319 | February 2, 2018 11:08 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 320 | February 3, 2018 12:41 AM |
r319, Agreed. There's no contrast in characters. As stated upthread, you could switch Cristal/Fallon's dialogue without any changes.
by Anonymous | reply 321 | February 5, 2018 12:31 PM |
I like the show, except there's not enough gay stuff. Fallon is sleeping around with everyone, yet we've only seen the gays bang once. It's not like Steven is a huge catch, but Sam is hot, so why isn't he getting laid more often? Because he's gay. They cut the original kissing scene too, the one in the trailer was much longer. Once again we have neutered gay guys on tv. And don't even get me started on Steven and his ex, they fucking censored the kiss! We didn't even get to see their faces! WTF?!

I'm keeping an open mind about Nicolette Sheridan. I've never been a huge fan but don't dislike her, either. She's aged a lot since Desperate Housewives. But if Alexis is down on her luck it makes sense she wouldn't be lifted and Botoxed to perfection.

Tonight’s show was certainly the best of the season IMO. The actors seem fairly confident on social media that this will be renewed.
by Anonymous | reply 344 | March 31, 2018 4:31 AM |
Never having seen the original, I have nothing to compare it to. But up til last week's episode, it really was awful, with all the endless business deals, double-crossing deals which were in turn undercut by other deals. Did the original also have all that endless trickery? And was it executed better? I just never understand why anyone would view that as escapist entertainment. .I thought it was so dull. But then last week and--more so--tonight, it seemed like they were making a show about relationships rather than who owns what business and who gets what deal with the city of Atlanta and yada yada yada. Everyone's still evil--did the writers not realize they've created a show with absolutely no heroes?--but at least, estate aside, they've turned to more relationship-centered stories than drama-less business deals. But I do think Nicolette is playing Alexis with too much comedy. There's no threat to her character. I thought Alexis was supposed to be THE bitch. Here's hoping. . .

Me, too. I still think crazy ass Kelly Rutherford (or several others) would have been a better choice for a vicious Alexis. But as R345 pointed out, this Alexis is being played with a bit of humor and Sheridan can pull that off.
by Anonymous | reply 348 | March 31, 2018 5:06 AM |
I don't see the pain behind her eyes for abandoning her children.
It is called subtext.
Joan Collins pulled that off. Even Sheridan did on DH.
But here she plays her like she doesn't have any emotional connection whatsoever.
Weird and lifeless.
She needs to play her like Cookie if she can't pull off Alexis.
The whole thing seems off somehow.

by Anonymous | reply 360 | April 2, 2018 1:25 AM |
r354,'s racism causes him to misunderstand the problem. It's the producers' cynical attempt to appeal to black audiences that is failing because it's inauthentic. Making the Colbys black had no thought process other than diversity. It also gives short shrift to a groundbreaking character in Dominique Deveraux.
What's worse is that just as the show's improving (probably still too little too late) they have a chunk of the audience rooting for Fallon and a white guy over two black suitors. That has ugly racial overtones but I don't think the audience is completely to blame. Now Liam could be Adam as some have speculated but that only kicks the can down the road.
It's the producers' cynical attempt to appeal to black audiences that is failing because it's inauthentic.
All the multicultural changes, whether cynical or well-intentioned, seem forced. Crystal, Sammy Jo and Michael turned out fine but the Colbys have been the weakest element of the show from the beginning. (What language is "Cesil" Colby speaking? The actor is Nigerian.) It's not that they're black, though. The characters and the actors portraying them aren't appealing.
they have a chunk of the audience rooting for Fallon and a white guy over two black suitors. That has ugly racial overtones
OK, fair enough, your take on it. I think people root for her and Michael. They've already given hints Liam has another identity, at the funeral; I wouldn't be shocked if he [bold]is[/bold] Adam Carrington. After all, they've already burned through the Blaisdels and (hopefully) the Colbys.

Despite once flirting with a 0 rating, Dynasty was renewed!
by Anonymous | reply 364 | April 2, 2018 8:49 PM |
R364 If this shitty show gets renewed and Gotham doesn't I'm gonna get pissed (I know they're not on the same network, but still).
by Anonymous | reply 365 | April 2, 2018 9:09 PM |
Gotham's been on long enough
by Anonymous | reply 366 | April 2, 2018 9:10 PM |
Dynasty is the lowest rated show on network television now, but it still got renewed. At least "Crazy Ex-Girlriend" is no longer the lowest rated show that the CW still renews.
by Anonymous | reply 368 | April 3, 2018 7:38 PM |
You really need to work hard at not getting a season 2 on the CW. I was surprised that they were expanding another night, because all of their ratings are pretty low. I wonder how the network is doing financially. Maybe their viewers skew young enough that they can get good advertising revenue. Some of those shows really should be put out of their misery.
by Anonymous | reply 369 | April 3, 2018 8:00 PM |
They couldn't even find an actor who looked like Steven to play the young version.
by Anonymous | reply 370 | April 30, 2018 3:37 PM |
Uh oh.... Claudia is back this Friday!

I posted this on another thread but I think I’ll post it here too. Warning, it’s a long post. Sorry about that, bitches. Just skip if you don’t want to read.
Too many negative Nellies here, so I’m going to make some positive observations:
The reboot’s characters are ALL written with a certain degree of complexity. Unlike the original, not one single character is completely good or evil. For the poster upthread who said Michael Culhane is too much of a Saint, remember he’s been lying to his parents for most of his professional life. That’s a tough charade to keep up.
I think this Cristal is a step up from frozen-faced, ditzy Linda Evans. At least, this one has a career, and is not some secretary-cum-socialite. Plus she has beauty pageant looks (Miss Venezuela?) whereas Evans looked like a dried-up, cross-eyed line backer.
The bilingual element is progressive (just like pop songs nowadays) and, whereas it will piss off bigoted deplorables (some of which have shown their true colors in this thread), it is attracting a huge Hispanic and international audience, all known soap lovers. So I wouldn’t worry about the show’s fate.
Rafael de la Fuente as Sammy Jo is exquisite, and a great departure from the also exquisite Heather Locklear. Here’s a wonderful example of derivative characters, both of which work on their own merits (even if both had that basic honest-yet-trashy quality). I especially love the actor’s side talents (singing/dancing) and the character’s relationship with Anders, who has taken quite an affection for him, not unlike that of an older gay man looking after a younger, straying one and performing daddy/mentor functions. What’s not to love? (Is this still a gay web site??! I’ve been wondering).
Speaking of side talents, Peruvian actress Nathalie Kelly (new Cristal, spelled differently for those of you who are still getting it wrong) is quite the Latin Ballroom dancer!
Despite his wooden performance, Grant Show is doing a good job delivering a cold callous Blake Carrington, and looks a lot more desirable than John Forsyth, whom I had trouble picturing as fucking a voluptuous woman with shoulders twice his size. And talk about one-note and wooden! The new Blake at least has some father issues through which his vulnerability shows.
Those of you trashing the show as glitzy and cheap-looking have clearly forgotten a) the ruffly, glittery shoulder-padded triangle fashions of the 1980’s that haunted the original and b) the low budget photography and set designs of the original. It was and us a soap opera! We are indulging in the tinsel. After all, the show doesn’t take place in New York Paris or Milan, but more in Housewives Of McMansionland.
I take the show at face value. One of the few negatives I have is why did they bother to move the show to Atlanta (probably to feature a larger multi-culture). Not a single southern accent in the crowd!! Not even the local police or waitstaff!

Oh, and I loved Michael’s sister and hope she comes back.

It has become The Fallon Carrington Show.
by Anonymous | reply 374 | May 24, 2018 10:00 AM |
Just got through binging the entire first season. I just about gave up on it about half way through the season, but stuck with it because I wanted to see how they handled the arrival of Alexis. The second half of the season got much better and Alexis truly did spice things up.
By the season finale, I was totally into it. The show came into its own in the second half. Obviously comparisons to the original are inevitable, but they have made it into its own show. They've gone off in some different directions from the original (the Colbys are cousins of the Carrington, Adam is a fraud), plus added some nice twists (Fallon has a social conscious, Cristal is working to get away from Blake), all of which helped make it into its own series.
Star of the show clearly is Elizabeth Gillies. She came off as abrasive at first, but by the end she was my favorite character (they give her great one liners). Grant Show doesn't have the gravitas of John Forsythe, but he's done a good job with this Blake. And Alan Dale as Anders is fantastic.
Really looking forward to where they go with season two.

How much are they paying Nicollette? Who knows the exact number?
by Anonymous | reply 376 | October 5, 2018 1:00 PM |
It's like a Drag version of Dynasty, which was already a Drag version of Falcon Crest.

LMAO at the new promo:
STEVEN: I may have gotten someone pregnant! FALLLON: You what? ALEXIS: A woman?????? STEVEN: Yes, a woman!!

Sharpen your cocks, bitches. Dynasty comes back next Friday.

[quotes] Sharpen your cocks, bitches.
What does that mean? Your attemots at humor generally fall flat. This is a perfect example.
by Anonymous | reply 380 | October 7, 2018 10:35 AM |
Did you just compare my attempts at humor to your attempts in the bedroom? Okay then.

Sneak peek with Fallon, Blake, Alexis, Steven and Anders :)

An important question: does Grant show's cock curve up or down? It matters.
by Anonymous | reply 383 | October 16, 2018 12:10 PM |
[R383] It's up according to Ms. Sheridan.

Harriet Sansom Harris is guest starring on tonight's episode.
by Anonymous | reply 385 | November 9, 2018 6:58 PM |
They’re redoing the fortune teller, huh?
by Anonymous | reply 386 | November 9, 2018 11:26 PM |
Of course! [R386]! And they also just fired James MacKay (Steven) from the show. Probably re-casting his part just like on the original show.
by Anonymous | reply 387 | November 9, 2018 11:34 PM |
Yes, James MacKay is gone.
Guess the this version of the show is following in the footsteps of the original in recasting many key roles.
by Anonymous | reply 388 | November 10, 2018 2:16 AM |
Well, I'm done.
by Anonymous | reply 389 | November 10, 2018 2:40 AM |
Okay, I’m sorry, but the black male characters are not handsome or compelling. I am rooting for Fallon to ditch Michael and get with Liam.
by Anonymous | reply 390 | November 10, 2018 5:19 AM |
Wow, they totally lifted the dialogue from the original.
by Anonymous | reply 391 | November 10, 2018 6:07 AM |
Here are the scenes with the psychic in the new show.
by Anonymous | reply 392 | November 10, 2018 9:28 AM |
Steven is back tonight, so I guess James Mackay wasn't completely fired...
by Anonymous | reply 393 | March 16, 2019 12:17 AM |
Is there another Dynasty thread? I couldn't find one…
by Anonymous | reply 394 | March 16, 2019 12:18 AM |
I've given up on this show
by Anonymous | reply 395 | March 16, 2019 2:26 AM |
So they drag Steven back so Adam can off him. Well, that was productive. At least he get an exit episode. I like NuCrystal going full tilt darkside.
by Anonymous | reply 396 | March 16, 2019 5:55 PM |
Without Steven, why the hell would Sam need to even be on the show? They might as well just admit that they don't want gays on the show.
by Anonymous | reply 397 | March 16, 2019 5:57 PM |
I thought I read the Steven scenes were shot awhile ago, maybe as part of the plot to bring back Adam. But then I also saw in Rafael's IG they were shooting in Paris in January. Who knows. We don't know Steven is completely dead, hopefully he's not. But yeah - Sam has no relationship to anyone on the show, now. I guess that's what was with Fallon's "no, continue to leech off our family for no other reason than I consider you my brother" bullshit. I hope they make Adam really evil, though. Sam Underwood has the look for it. Maybe make him a bisexual monster so he can fuck Sam.
