It's basically just Brigadoon without the singing and dancing. Right?

Yes, OP, and without charm, whimsy, pacing, or humanity, too.

What was the point of the movie?
I've watched it several times and still don't "get" it.
Well, it did make me hate BDH - to this day.

It's as good a description of the deplorables as any.

It's an allegory for how Hollywood talent management deals with gay actors.

He inadvertently stole the plot from a young adult novel called Running Out of Time by Margaret Perterson Haddix . There must have been a payout and a nondisclosure agreement as it got hushed up pretty quickly.

Is “get over the fence” a metaphor for something?

Are you really going to spend time thinking about this shitty movie? Lol
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 9, 2019 5:24 PM |
The whole movie was a metaphor about how humans beings cage themselves with the fantasy of organised religion.

Hahah, I remember taking note of the cop as a young gayling... not hot in the traditional sense, but definitely has an appeal. That actor showed up in Mad Men later as Peggy's liberal journalist love interest who moves her into that sketchy neighborhood.
Charlie Hofheimer's the actor's name.
Also, this film is quite aesthetically pleasing. Exceptional score by James Newton Howard, wonderful cinematography by Roger Deakins, that great set piece when the monsters descend on the village, and overall an impressive cast. The writing's kinda preposterous, but ultimately an unfairly maligned film.
