I saw Karen Lynnn Gorney in an off-Broadway (or off-off Broadway Equity showcase) where she played Wallis Simpson. She was actually very good and looked fine. I always thought her acting was fine in "Saturday Night Fever", and while, of course, the film didn't help her like Travolta, I rather expected to see her in some other big films roles after that film's success. Her Dad, btw, wrote the classic song "Brother, Can You Spare A Dime?"

What constitutes "15 minutes." Seriously, I know it's not simply based on time in the public spotlight, as all sorts of differing lengths of time can be called "15 minutes" of fame. Is it the solitary nature of why someone is famous - they're known for one thing and one thing only; or is more to do with after-the-fact - how much they disappear from public memory after they're "famous", and how forgettable whatever they were famous for is. Spike Lee is a really bad example, IMO. He's not a 15 minutes guy, just someone whose career is past its prime.

R107, I think "15 Minutes" is combination of the factors you described. If a person was famous for any reasonable amount of time they are disqualified. I think it's someone who burns hot and bright, but then quickly fades away. The nation is obsessed for three-four months, but then they fade back into the obscurity from which they came. It helps if what they're famous for is some frivolous, like a reality show.
Someone like Debra Winger, who was nominated for three Best Actress Oscars which spanned a decade was too big a star to only be considered a 15 minutes of fame person.
On the other hand, I do think someone like Ty Pennington could qualify, even though his reality show ran for many successful years. He was only known for the one thing and it is so largely forgotten today. If anyone does remember it at all, it's with derision.
