Infectious Disease Expert Says It's Entirely Possible Trump Suffers From Untreated Syphilis

There has been a great deal of speculation in recent weeks about Pres. Donald Trump’s mental health and a debate has sprung up among psychiatric professionals as to the ethics of discussing the chief executives wellness. After Trump’s voluble, rambling hour and 17 minute press conference on Thursday, that speculation has acquired a new urgency.

On Friday, The New Republic published an essay by infectious disease specialist Steven Beutler who believes that Pres. Trump may well be suffering from dementia but that the cause could be clinical rather than psychological.

“Physicians like me have also taken notice of Trump’s bizarre, volatile behavior,” Beutler wrote. “Given our experience, we can’t help but wonder if there’s a medical diagnosis to be made. After all, many medical conditions exhibit their first symptoms in the form of psychiatric issues and personality changes. One condition in particular is notable for doing so: Neurosyphilis.”

Beutler explained that syphilis has been known through history as “The Great Imposter” because it mimics so many other illnesses and syndromes as it moves through its various stages of infection.

“Primary syphilis is the most widely recognized form of the disease. It is characterized by the development of an ulcer, usually genital, a few weeks to a few months after sexual contact with an infected person. If the ulcer is not noticed, or not treated, it heals on its own, and the disease enters a dormant phase. But during this time, the bacteria—a spirochete called Treponema pallidum—spreads throughout the body without causing any symptoms,” he said.

Secondary syphilis develops weeks or months later and is characterized by a wide array of symptoms including fever, rash, fatigue, sores in the mouth and genitals, malaise, muscle aches and swollen glands.

If left untreated at this stage, Beutler said, “the infection enters a prolonged latent phase, which can last decades. During this time, it is asymptomatic and it is not contagious. In some cases, this is followed by a tertiary stage, which is the most serious and may involve any organ in the body. It is seen 10 to 30 years after the initial infection, and is best known for causing neurologic and neuropsychiatric disease: Neurosyphilis.”

Neurosyphilis symptoms can manifest in an array of ways depending upon the patient.

“Commonly recognized symptoms include irritability, loss of ability to concentrate, delusional thinking, and grandiosity,” said Beutler. “Memory, insight, and judgment can become impaired. Insomnia may occur. Visual problems may develop, including the inability of pupils to react to the light. This, along other ocular pathology, can result in photophobia, dimming of vision, and squinting. All of these things have been observed in Trump. Dementia, headaches, gait disturbances. and patchy hair loss can also be seen in later stages of syphilis.”

As you do Op.

by Anonymousreply 1February 18, 2017 12:49 AM

OMg! Our administration is like a Strindberg play!

by Anonymousreply 2February 18, 2017 12:51 AM

Untreated Syph or the clap. Let's face it, there is something extremely wrong with him.

by Anonymousreply 3February 18, 2017 12:54 AM

R1, if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen!

by Anonymousreply 4February 18, 2017 12:55 AM

Or maybe he's just an asshole. I'm as Democrat as anybody but articles like this achieve nothing. There's enough wrong about Trump without making shit up. The New Republic should be smarter than this.

by Anonymousreply 5February 18, 2017 12:56 AM

Can you get it from being peed all over your face by hookers?

by Anonymousreply 6February 18, 2017 12:59 AM

R1, you can kiss my ass, right in the crack!

by Anonymousreply 7February 18, 2017 1:00 AM

God, OP

This is truly stupid!

by Anonymousreply 8February 18, 2017 1:04 AM

One month and I'm exhausted, worn-out. We laughed at banana republic countries; guerilla warfare, military coups, puppet governments; loony leaders like Qadaffi, Idi Amin Dada, Kim Jong Whoever...

And here we are.

by Anonymousreply 9February 18, 2017 1:29 AM

Seems plausible. It's now believed that Syphilis was what made James Joyce lose his vision, yeah?

Whatever the origins of Trump's problems with thought process are, the real issue is that everyone seems to recognize that he's not mentally fit for office and yet no one seems to be able or willing to do anything about it.

by Anonymousreply 10February 18, 2017 1:37 AM

R5 why is it so implausible?

by Anonymousreply 11February 18, 2017 1:42 AM

Syphylis! Yes! And anal warts. I'm sure he has anal warts.

by Anonymousreply 12February 18, 2017 2:12 AM

He's even named his anal warts: Kellyanne, Sean and Reince.

by Anonymousreply 13February 18, 2017 2:24 AM

Syphlis does make you orangey- pissy yellow

by Anonymousreply 14February 18, 2017 8:49 AM

We'll only know for sure when Donald submits to a real medical exam and releases the results. Until then, we have no option but to assume that yes, he's suffering from syphilis.

by Anonymousreply 15February 18, 2017 8:59 AM

Just as OP suffers from untreated OCD.

by Anonymousreply 16February 18, 2017 9:01 AM

Can syphilis can be gotten from Russian teen girl pee?

by Anonymousreply 17February 18, 2017 9:01 AM

Is jaundice a symptom? Could the orange makeup be covering up something?

by Anonymousreply 18February 18, 2017 9:24 AM

He's just a sociopath from Queens, a hopper as John Waters called him. That's why he looks up to Putin who, as a psychopath, is an even bigger sociopath than he is.

by Anonymousreply 19February 18, 2017 11:38 AM

...the President's Annual Physical... should be fun this year.

by Anonymousreply 20February 18, 2017 11:56 AM

Now, I'm paranoid that I have syph.

by Anonymousreply 21February 18, 2017 11:57 AM

Ibsen play, GHOSTS, not Strindberg.

by Anonymousreply 22February 18, 2017 12:00 PM

These kinds of articles are stupid clickbait for angry voters. The press did the same thing to George W. I have no doubt that Trump has unchecked mental health issues and I can even believe he has a range of STIs from a lifetime of irresponsible sexual behavior. But I don't know that and I can't know that. I can only make suppositions about it. When actual doctors start participating in these kinds of articles, I immediately discount their opinion. After all, they're the kind of quacks who try to diagnose a patient without having met them or even seen any clinical information gathered about them. It's a highly irresponsible thing for any medical or psychiatric professionals to do publicly.

I hate Trump and I think he's dangerously insane, but articles like this one don't help make that case. It's just political porn.

by Anonymousreply 23February 18, 2017 12:13 PM

I bet he's never made a woman come even once.

by Anonymousreply 24February 18, 2017 12:15 PM

I'd dismiss it out of hand IF he hadn't refused to release a medical exam.

by Anonymousreply 25February 18, 2017 12:38 PM

It's true. It's just silly stuff, that will spread on the internet. And they all have a chuckle, or really believe it, and there is still no reporting on stuff like Trump's now allowing toxic coal mining debris to be dumped in rivers.

by Anonymousreply 26February 18, 2017 12:50 PM

This story was floating around at the end of 2015 without much attention. Is it relevant?

Maybe not the STD part, but it's remarkable to have a President who's mental instability and erratic behavior is cause for speculation.

That should be the real concern when reading these stories.

by Anonymousreply 27February 18, 2017 1:00 PM

Didn't stop Reagan, GWB, and Nixon from being elected and re-elected.

by Anonymousreply 28February 18, 2017 1:20 PM

This story is like the fugly ones that came out about Barry.

by Anonymousreply 30February 18, 2017 2:10 PM

by Anonymousreply 31February 18, 2017 2:25 PM

Ugh. I feel sick.

by Anonymousreply 32February 18, 2017 2:43 PM

Does he have GRIDs too?

by Anonymousreply 33February 18, 2017 2:46 PM

Fake News. And that doctor is an illegal immigrant.

by Anonymousreply 34February 18, 2017 2:53 PM

This is ridiculous. Much more likely that he has garden variety dementia. The person who posted here about how Trump's behavior reminded him of his grandma's behavior as she descended into denrntia was much more convincing.

by Anonymousreply 35February 18, 2017 2:56 PM

R35 *as she descended into dementia

by Anonymousreply 36February 18, 2017 2:57 PM

Dementia can only make a presidency greater.

by Anonymousreply 37February 18, 2017 3:02 PM

R35, this is not garden variety dementia. It's full-blown madness. It is a whole degree beyond the alleged symptoms of Reagan and Bush, and I think that is apparent to a lot of people.

by Anonymousreply 38February 18, 2017 4:05 PM

"I hate Trump and I think he's dangerously insane, but articles like this one don't help make that case. It's just political porn. "

It's not that at all. It is an entirely reasonable and fair response to Trump's unreasonable and unconventional choice to voluntarily give up no information on himself. No tax returns. No authoritative detailed disclosure of his financial holdings and his debt, in lieu of actual tax returns. No actual assessment of his health. And that with him being the oldest person ever elected to the office.

He has thumbed his nose at these important conventions. And we have a right, and a burning need, to get the information he has actively, brazenly concealed.

So, if you read the article as merely information about Trump's health, then it is not very reliable. But if you recognize it as a strategy to put pressure on Trump to disclose the information he has withheld, it is a good move. Put the pressure on. Let him have to answer to the press, "I don't have syphilis. I am not insane. I have paid my taxes.... and you will just have to take my word for it." I would love to see that. And won't the reaction from 70% of the country be interesting.

by Anonymousreply 39February 18, 2017 4:29 PM

No credible physician will speculate about the health of a living person. Dr. Oz or Dr. Drew, yes, but that pretty much says it all. It's feel good rubbish but its rubbish.

by Anonymousreply 40February 18, 2017 4:37 PM

Nope, it's nonsense and clickbait for outraged lefties, r39. It will have the same effect similar stories about George W. Bush had on his presidency, which is to say, none.

by Anonymousreply 41February 18, 2017 6:05 PM

Trump as an insane syphilitic tax dodger? I can buy that.

by Anonymousreply 42February 18, 2017 7:01 PM

Syphilis might make a person crazy but not evil. Besides, Trump has always been like this. If he's had Syph all these years his brain would be like Swiss cheese by now o,r he'd be dead. He wouldn't even be able to talk. Now if someone said he was possessed by a demon, that I might believe.

by Anonymousreply 43February 18, 2017 10:50 PM

With all his money he could afford secret doctors and secret treatment for any illnesses. James Joyce! This isn't the early 20th century!

by Anonymousreply 44February 18, 2017 11:08 PM

Preposterous! His doctor told us during the election that Trump's health was TREMENDOUS and that he would be the healthiest president we've ever had!

by Anonymousreply 45February 19, 2017 4:01 PM

Now THERE'S something Biden should ask him on Monday.

by Anonymousreply 46September 23, 2020 3:09 PM

I don't know why people are so quick to dismiss this. We know this pig doesn't use protection and sleeps with sexually indiscriminate women. And he would never get tested or treated for anything. He's a complete pig.

by Anonymousreply 47September 23, 2020 3:29 PM

This is dementia that Trump's army of suckers is accusing Biden of.

by Anonymousreply 48September 23, 2020 3:36 PM

[quote]As you do Op.

more illiteracy from a trumptard. The real trump turds are so obvious as they can't string a complete seance together to save their lives.

by Anonymousreply 49September 23, 2020 3:39 PM

I honestly doubt that those women who he had kids with would not have been tested or known or had access to the best care and so told him if he had it. Plus I am sure the US prez gets all kind of testing all the time. C'mon. And no, I don't like him.

by Anonymousreply 50September 23, 2020 4:25 PM

R49 - have you ever tried reading some comments on Fox or Brietbart? Painful...there really is a high level of illiteracy among right wingers.

by Anonymousreply 51September 24, 2020 2:52 AM

You can have syphilis for many many years. my nana had a miscarriage caused by my grandfather's untreated syphilis. he never got it treated and died like 20 years later of cyrosis and neurosyphilis.

by Anonymousreply 52September 24, 2020 3:14 AM

Any doubts as to whether King Donald's brain has turned to oatmeal should have been laid firmly to rest by now.

by Anonymousreply 53November 17, 2020 10:49 PM

So I’m supposed to think Trump never got an antibiotic for any disease at all for the past 40 years? Penicillin will kill syphilis dead and I’m sure he’s taken it for other STDs at the very least, not to mention it’s given for other infections from earaches to tooth infections to respiratory infections. Tertiary syphilis takes decades to develop. I’m sure he’s had a macrolide along the way

by Anonymousreply 54November 17, 2020 10:58 PM

No, it’s decades of daily drug abuse (prescription and non prescription)

by Anonymousreply 55November 17, 2020 10:58 PM

I’ve been saying this since he entered politics. It’s clear there’s a neurological issue, and he is a whoremonger, so-o-o-o

by Anonymousreply 56November 17, 2020 11:01 PM

Eeeeew. Syphilis?? Gross. Al Capone territory now.

by Anonymousreply 57November 17, 2020 11:01 PM

Uh, no. He's a run-of-the-mill psychopath.

by Anonymousreply 58November 17, 2020 11:03 PM

[quote] You can have syphilis for many many years. my nana had a miscarriage caused by my grandfather's untreated syphilis. he never got it treated and died like 20 years later of cyrosis and neurosyphilis.

Yeah but nowadays people take antibiotics for all kinds of infections that will also kill syphilis even if you don’t know you have it. It’s not until the late stages that it can’t be cured. Somewhere along the way, pretty much everybody takes an antibiotic for whatever infection they have and it kills syphilis. Trump I’m sure has taken antibiotics in the 60s 70s 80s 90s for an infection. He’s the type who would demand an antibiotic if he had a sore throat. “And only the best out there. I want the best antibiotic. The strongest one.”

by Anonymousreply 59November 17, 2020 11:03 PM

Drag Hope Hicks in for testing

by Anonymousreply 60November 17, 2020 11:09 PM

We just need him dead.

by Anonymousreply 61November 17, 2020 11:11 PM

This thread is so old that it has existed longer than the latency phase of the disease.

by Anonymousreply 62November 17, 2020 11:12 PM

He is NOW being treated by Walter Reed as a President. I am pretty sure they have run all these tests and are treating him for what he has. There is treatment for late stage syphilis.

They are all sociopaths. I think this is the answer. You cannot treat sociopaths.

by Anonymousreply 63November 17, 2020 11:15 PM

[quote] I don't know why people are so quick to dismiss this. We know this pig doesn't use protection and sleeps with sexually indiscriminate w

We’re not quick to dismiss it. It’s been 3 years & we’re dismissing it.

by Anonymousreply 64November 17, 2020 11:16 PM

There is TREATMENT for Syphilis. It's funny that republicans think is it a better spin of Trump, to say trump has Syphilis.

They are all SOCIOPATHS.

by Anonymousreply 65November 17, 2020 11:19 PM

So THAT'S why Melania always looks so pissed off!

by Anonymousreply 66November 17, 2020 11:45 PM

Trump has a personality disorder. There's no need to make stupid excuses (like syphilis) for his behavior.

Literally NOBODY in the US with normal access to healthcare progresses to advanced syphilis anymore, because pretty much EVERYONE takes antibiotics for SOMETHING at least once per decade, which will trivially clear their syphilis -- EVEN IF the syphilis ITSELF was unknown -- long before it makes it to end stage.

by Anonymousreply 67November 17, 2020 11:58 PM

Just die already!

by Anonymousreply 68November 18, 2020 12:07 AM

R66 - she can't even scratch her pussy in public when it itches. Of course she's pissed! Plus menopause...maybe she beats him.

by Anonymousreply 69November 18, 2020 12:20 AM

I feel ya R68

by Anonymousreply 70November 18, 2020 6:45 AM

His brain is still sharp, and he'll keep finding ways to get out of legal trouble and make more money. But he is a narcissist/sociopath.

I think he would have conceded and moved on by now, but the Republicans wanted him to keep 'fighting' so the Deplorable money would keep flowing in.
