SPOILERS
Carrie is now a champion for the sweet terrorists of the religion of peace. Quinn..it makes me mad what they did to him. Dar Adal is, as always, up to no good. The president elect is a woman (they sure thought it would parallel a Hillary win - ha!).
It doesn't look good.

The show has become boring as fuck. A bi-polar whore who is off her meds. I can see that on the streets of WeHo on any given night.
I only watched it for Damien Lewis, and Quinn. There is nothing interesting about Claire Danes, even though word has it that she's as big a whore as Carrie.

I hate it when shows like this make me wait so incredibly long between seasons that I forget important characters and plot points. Homeland, Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, I am talking about you. Six month hiatus, bah! Stop taking yourself so fucking seriously and get on with it - you are TV shows and not the cure for cancer.

Wall Street Journal review:
‘Homeland,’ Season 6 Review: A Politically Correct Carrie
Gone is the series’ original vitality, replaced with predictable politeness.
It’s a far from familiar Carrie, bipolar scourge of terrorists, who shows up in season 6 of “Homeland,’’ set in that destination strivers around the world dream of living in—namely, Brooklyn. She’s there having abandoned any further service to the CIA, because—she makes clear in the show’s opening episodes—she’s become increasingly dismayed by America’s policies in the Middle East. Not to mention at home, where she’s appalled to discover that the U.S government has been taking the threat of homegrown terrorism seriously and going so far as to investigate enthusiasts of jihad, creators of websites for the dissemination of messages from Islamic State, devotees of suicide bombers, and even charging some suspected of connection with terror networks abroad.
So it is that we find an even more chronically infuriated Carrie than the one of previous seasons. Instead of chasing around the capitals of the world hunting down terrorists about to set off explosions intended to take the lives of tens of thousands of unbelievers, she’s now spending her days in her Brooklyn offices devoted to legal defense of Muslim males she considers unjustly charged victims of the U.S. government. Unjustly charged in many ways, in Carrie’s view—the most remarkable aspect of which is her complaint that the government investigators aiming to prevent the next mass murder.
.... My guess she is working undercover and will kick Muslim ass later in the season. Otherwise the series will end this year as the audience turns off the SJW Carrie show.

Carrie's German boyfriend in the last season was hot AF. Bummer. Yes, I'm talking about the young one, not Otto.

I'm with R31. The hot German boyfriend made last season. If they'd just shown his crotch for the entire hour, it'd have been worth watching.
I'm ok the storyline this season, but the only hottie I've noticed is the Middle Eastern lawyer. They downgraded Quinn's looks for his current predicament.

Quinn should have stayed badass, the sarin gas storyline was a mistake. And, back when he was first introduced in season 2, Quinn had a wife, a kid and his real name was John - I liked his mysterious persona and the no romantic ties with Carrie. Making Peter Quionn a schoolboy with googly eyes for Carrie was the beginning of the end of the character.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | February 17, 2017 6:07 PM

I agree R45. It was a mistake trying to get Carrie and Quinn together.

It's definitely picking up steam so glad the smug Seku blew up. He was a difficult character to root for.
London Spy with Ben Whishaw is a really good one but it's short, only 4 episodes. Lazy Brits.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | February 20, 2017 4:11 PM

The whole Quinn storyline makes increasingly less sense. I mean, even for Homeland.
First, how did all those protesters know to gather at Carrie's house.
Second, given how well known Quinn's story is-- didn't Carrie even show him the video in the first or second episode this season and explain that everyone knew about it-- given how famous his story is, why didn't Carrie just tell the police chief who he was. And wasn't there someone at the CIA or Army hospital she could call to explain what was going on. The whole hostage thing seemed really far fetched.
I'd still jump Rupert Friend's bones in a heartbeat and he's doing a great job of playing brain damaged Quinn.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | February 20, 2017 5:05 PM
|
Agree I love Rupert Friend too. I want him cleaned up soon though. This episode was epic. One of the best in a while, and the best this season. Yes, you have to suspend belief at the raid, but with social media that shit could happen fast.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | February 22, 2017 1:11 AM

I think the guy across the street or his organization set up the protest. The aggressive protestors seemed staged like they were plants there to cause trouble or a riot. I think they are setting Carrie up by helping get her client released then implicating him in a terror plot and then bringing attention to her house. They did not count on Quinn though. I love how his instincts kicked in even though he has diminished capacity. I hope he stays on the show. I started with Season One and am a lifer too. I met Saul randomly. He was nice, I was worried he would be a dick because of what people here have said about him but he was cool.
There are some good Swedish crime dramas but they are hard to get. They were on PBS a few years ago.

Dar always comes across as shifty but has not been shifty so far. Next season they have to have a president undermined by IC for the sake of the country then Dar will be useful.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | February 22, 2017 10:00 AM

I think the plan is have the president elect killed before she takes office.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | February 23, 2017 9:14 AM
|
I hear you all re: conspiracy and social media gathering the crowd and all, but what about my other point--that the show has been pretty clear to point out that Quinn was considered a hero because of what happened in Berlin and his story was very well known.
Given that, why didn't carry just say "that's Quinn, the guy who got gassed in Berlin" to try and stop the police from thinking they had a hostage situation on their hands.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | February 23, 2017 9:43 AM
|
Because Homeland is full of plot holes and now in season 6 the writers are even more lazy.
If it isn't Dar sabotaging and framing Carrie, then it is the president's aide, the black guy. It can't be Saul, the president or Quinn....and the cast's pretty much these people.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | February 23, 2017 9:02 PM

Last fall the show was renewed for seasons 7 and 8. I suppose both seasons will also concentrate on fighting the evil jews in Israel and American intelligence agencies. I haven't seen weekly ratings on the news season yet but you know they have to be in freefall. Nononono Not ASTRID! OMG! That just gave me a huge case of the Sads. Nina Hoss' character was the SMARTEST, TOUGHEST, and she was never complicated - just all business and good at it. Was a pleasure to see her appear on screen last week. I had loved the way she handled that foolish american leaker. Quinn will never get over that bullet business.
She was played by Dar too, that cocksucker! Now HTF is Quinn going to get back to Carrie and Saul? Dar just froze them out of the PETUS circle by corrupting that Iranian. Carrie is back at the agency, She is going to need the protection and so is Quinn and Quinn has it all figured out now.

R127, Quinn didn't trust Astrid then, he took bullets out in case she was gonna use it on him.
Quinn was already in dar's house before far came back, so he probably did it then. Also Quinn had used this same tech last season to find out carries location in the woods.

About those bullets - Astrid drew a bead on that gunman he was toast, all would have been resolved. Dar would have been exposed But now Quinn has to either kill the assasin first, or contact Carrie and Saul. Someone that lives in the nabe where the show is filmed stated they had seen or heard an explosion I expect that it was the Young man in the truck? Nobody has anything to say about the PETUS. Too sensitive a topic I suppose.
It was very cool to display how organized Trolling to saboutage political opponents actually looks. The issue of fake hate story plants was in today's news cycle exposing Anti Hillary bloggers on Sanders pages. That is something worth revisiting in an investigative report. It might go a way to exposing Trump as a true enemy of the US.

I just got to watch the episode tonight, which shockingly shows the "bots" company that creates fake SM profiles, etc that are anti-Keane (ala anti-Clinton-esque) right after I had just watched Rachel's show tonight which was about the exact same thing happening in real life re: Russia. I've always loved how this show is VERY concurrent with certain political issues of the immediate present.

Just before Quinn hits Dar unconscious, Dar tells Quinn, he didn't try to have him killed because.... "I love you."
So did Dar molest Quinn when he was younger? Is this why Quinn is such an emotional mess?

The only person dar loves is himself, he merely said that so Quinn would spare him, he even told Quinn he was his child etc

Looks like the end of Dar this season. Too bad because I liked the character.

Yes R131 -- as R133 notes, it was pretty much spelled out-- last season they said Peter was pretty and so good bait for a Hong Kong underworld figure they were trying to lure (assumption was said underworld figure was male.) Then Peter said something like his skills weren't the only reason Dar liked him back in the day and then called him a dirty old man, to which Dar replied it was all consensual (or something to that effect.)
My guess is that they will not explain it however as it makes for too much of a non-PC mess. Gay Dar the Pedophile (maybe he could get shot at the Pizzagate restaurant, lol) Quinn being fucked up because he was molested and sexualized by men at a young age (hi Bruce Weber and Brian G!) --all too messy in today's climate.

I thought with Trump and cronies nothing scripted could be as interesting as this and I'm wrong. The parallels to what is going on in D.C. now are right there, whether they got the president right or wrong. Imagine if Hillary had won, this could easily have been done to her. Great stuff.

R163 really? Hell no, she was Secretary of State, as Sen of NY she was in on intelligence briefings post 9/11, she had long established ties To people in the the various intelligence agencies. R162 is not far off. Consider the Internal Affairs branch of the FBI is investigating (and very very likely to prosecute) the NYC branch of The FBI for apparently blackmailing Comey with press leaks if he refused to participate in the "Clinton Cash" BS. Guliani hinted at the pending "October surprise" and that ruthless pathologically steaming pile of shit is well in on the game.
So Mercer funded/Breitbart-Bannon published Screed is pedaled by high ranking US Security Agency/FBI to destabilize a Female Candidate. Yeah - it does sound like the Homeland PETUS theme. Homeland has a number of former CIA/FBI agents as advisors. With liberties it borrows themes. They could have made the fake news site more realistic with a min of 300 fake news workers though.

by Anonymous | reply 188 | April 6, 2017 4:38 AM

Dar Adal is annoying. He looks like a character who would have had his heyday in the 1960s. Instead, we're stuck with him season after season, while he repeatedly undermines the agency he helped create.
And I find the story line to be absolutely ridiculous. Carrie leaves the agency, in order to practice immigration law (among other things), but she secretly advises the PEOTUS? Please BITE ME!
Also very offensive, is the portrayal of the first woman president. Why would she need to receive foreign policy advice from a bi-polar, recovering alkie, ex spook, who has pretty much fucked up every single assignment or post throughout her career with the agency? I understand that this is pretty much what is currently playing out in our own country, but they should have had a "Trumo like PEOTUS", rather than a portraying this woman as incapable of doing her job. Very sexist and lazy of the writers to do that.

R 189 Really? Apparently you havent watched the show much. Carried repeatedly saves the day, well ahead of her colleagues. Much like women in the CIA have been known to do - capture of Osama Bin Laden is the most famous example of a successful operation,
I think you are simply a misogynistic troll. How refreshing.
by Anonymous | reply 193 | April 6, 2017 7:39 PM
|
R192 and R193, I understand that this show is fiction, but a woman like Carrie (who I actually DO like as a character) would have a pretty difficult time just making it in a normal, day to day job. She wouldn't last more than 6 months with the CIA. And the ONLY reason why I'm choosing six months as the threshold, is because I've worked in very intense situations, where I saw colleagues who were under the same kind of pressure that I was under, be given the courtesy of a six month trial period, before they were terminated.
There are certain jobs that just don't allow a lot of "wiggle room". Fuck ups are not reversed and cannot be fixed in those types of jobs. CIA Officer is one of those jobs. Carrie would have been either accidentally killed, purposely killed by enemies of the state, held as a prisoner in some God forsaken hole in the ME, fired, and/or in federal prison or a federal hospital, had she actually worked for the company.
I enjoy the show immensely. I have watched it from day one. I LOVE Quinn. But I wish that they would make Crazy Carrie less crazy!
And now she's drinking again. Fuck!!!! Why can't she ever learn from her past mistakes? No doubt the intelligence community has seen its fair share of alcoholics, but this is getting old. People genuinely don't function at their best when manic, or when under the influence. It's extremely difficult to get decent analysis on the table under the best of conditions. No way will you get it with a bunch of handicaps like addiction and untreated mental illness. Please, let me see Carrie at her absolute best for once in this fucking show!
Now, on that note: we are currently launching warheads into Syria. This too, will not end well, and it is happening much much sooner than I had guessed.

Sorry But Hillary just spoke about this Syria situation she said that she would also attack the airfields that were used to launch the Sarin gas from. She said that the world is a global community and that there are standards for conduct and international tribunals are real. Hillary of course had tried 3 or 4 times to end this horror years ago, with proposals to replace Assad during her tenure, as a Candidate to create no fly zones to protect the Resistance. Now Assad has been shown. Trump must be replaced, and he must go.

Quinn is what the CIA calls a 'NOC'. Carrie was never a NOC. She can't get away with the same shit Quinn gets away with.
For dramatic purposes, this show goes way overboard. I get it, but it is still somewhat annoying to watch at times. It's difficult for me not to SMH during certain set ups and scenes. No way would most of this shit fly IRL.
IRL, Quinn would not have survived the Sarin Gas exposure. And IRL, Carrie would have been fired in S1. And plenty of people leave the agency and do remain friends with active officers. However, no one starts meddling in company work once out. Either you are on the reservation, or off, regardless of official cover, or NOC. There's no in between.

I think President Kean has been marginalized and will do as told by the Military because she knows what they are capable of. Nothing new here. All presidents once in office learn WHO controls them and they are veiled threats. Jimmy Carter had a supposed assassin named Ray Lee Harvey (sound familiar) who was said to be tracking him. IT was an obvious CIA ploy to keep Jimmy Carter in line and to know anytime they wanted to take him out they would.

R228, I think the job offer was not really serious. Keane wanted to use Carrie to lull her former colleagues into a false sense of semi-security before lowering the boom on them. After that, there's no way Keane would ever trust Carrie enough to have her on board. At least that's my interpretation.
I wonder if Keane is a plant by some foreign government or just wants to dismantle the intelligence community.

David Wellington (Linus Roache) will be one of the show's villains next season, not a hottie. A crew friend told me they'll be shooting the entire season in DC.

Thanks, R231. I wonder if Wellington is leading Keane down a dark path, or if both of them are villains.
I will say that the show has become more like "24" with Carrie in the Kiefer Sutherland role, rather than the more complex dramatics of Seasons 1,2 and 4.

I got the sense that maybe Dar et al. had caused Keane to become the thing they feared she would be; that their behaviors had scared her personality and made her paranoid.

Probably the right way to read it, R236.

Keane realizes she is a puppet and the military will kill her if she does not allow their agenda to move forward.

Good point R236. You're probably right, and Wellington may be taking advantage of her state of mind for his own purposes.

Was she looking at a photo of her son in that final shot? It would make sense that the trashing of her beloved son caused her to come a tad unhinged.

It's a shame what they did to Quinn. I wonder if Claire Danes has some beef with Rupert Friend? By reading his exit interviews, it doesn't seem they liked or even appreciated him that much. Maybe she put the kibosh on the Quinn-Carrie pairing? Anyway. Quinn was supposed to be the sexy badass and having him physically and mentally impaired just wouldn't work.

Rupert deserves an award for this season.

By reading his interviews, it's pretty clear Danes, the producers and even Patinkin have no love for him. Bitches.

They shouldn't have killed off both Quinn and Astrid and effectively removed Dar and Saul from the action. They'll wind up introducing too many new characters at once who no one will be invested in.

Personality clash maybe??

They shouldn't have tried to pair them up in the first place.

I agree but Rupert did an excellent job this season.

I've never heard any specific beef between Danes and Friend. In fact, she was complimentary about him the first season his character was introduced. But things can change, and now that the series has become more about Carrie being practically a Jack Bauer-type character, I wonder if Danes just wants to be even more the center of attention.

I worked on set back in February in the scene when the garage exploded. Danes and Friend seemed amicable but worked differently. He'd bounce around set chatting with crew and she'd be preoccupied by her phone, a book or a magazine.

R250 Thanks for sharing. Did you get to chat to Rupert??

I did, R251. He was adorable. He talked about his wife and joked that he made such a big effort to get home early enough on Valentine's Day and she was conked out on the couch.

Sad they wrote Quinn out, but I like you cannot be sure any other than Carrie and Saul, who are both producers, will stay.

I think they did the right thing with Quinn's character, and Friend was definitely up to it. It was a much meatier part for an actor than just being James Bond. As for all this other speculation about who likes who in the cast, how junior high girlish can you get?

They'll have to come up with more interesting regulars for Season 7 to be in the administration with the Elizabeth Marvel and Linus Roache characters.

Someday I'd like to get the inside of how much, if any, the November election result changed the Homeland plotline.
The episodes filmed before the election had Reformed Carrie and Wise Humane Lady President learning the "truth" how the bad people were not actually Muslim terrorists at home and abroad, but rather evil Jews in Mossad and evil white guys in CIA.
Then Hillary loses her certain path to 270, Trump is the president-elect, and they still have four episodes left to film. I'm reasonably confident demonstrators chanting "Not my president" would not have been dialogue written in the summer of 2016. I just wonder if the finale followed the original plan with the big reveal of the treacherous president-elect declaring martial law and purging all her enemies.
I really have trouble believing before the election they'd have let Dar say that he’s not sure what he did was wrong, and that there’s something off about Keane: she’s “dogmatic,” “dangerous,” and “distinctly un-American.” , and then proving him correct.

R258, what I heard from crew people was that Elizabeth ran as a progressive Bernie type but would turn out to be a vicious fascist who would order Muslims to be arrested and put in concentration camps.

After becoming bored one Night, I decided to look up Berlin Station. Very entertaining!. If you like Homeland, you'll get hooked on this show. I might say that it was just aso good or better than this past season of Homeland. Ashley Judd will be joining the show for the second season.

R261, i'm glad you liked it. I enjoyed it as well, I'm looking forward to the new season. Hopefully Ashley Judd's plastic surgery won't be too distracting. Stike Force might be interesting to you as well. It's more action packed.

Ashley Judd was excellent in that limited ABC show about her son being kidnapped in Europe. Can't remember the name but was bummed it was canned.

R258, I do think you have a point about the real election maybe changing some things in the plot. I don't think you are right, however, about the "Not My President" dialogue not being a part of the plans for the show in the Summer of 2016 and something that had to be changed later. The saying itself goes way back. I even had a button with the saying that I used to wear during the early years of the Reagan presidency. It was heard by conservatives throughout the Clinton presidency, by liberals throughout the W. presidency, and by conservatives again throughout the Obama presidency. Think back to the election. People who opposed Hillary were already saying she wouldn't be their president well before the election just as many others were saying the same about Trump. Given how much the Breitbart character had ginned up hatred against the President elect, it wasn't too far-fetched to think there would be crowds screaming it.

It seems season 7 will feature a Trumpy president who hates intelligence offices and was elected by Russia. I might be back in. I stopped watching last season as soon as I saw Quinn was a nerve-damaged zombie foaming at the mouth. I really don’t like to watch anyone suffering that much. It seemed sadistic.
