If I were living by myself, I'd want a bungalow, with pale blue walls on both the inside and outside. And also a large backyard with a swimming pool.
If I had a boyfriend/husband, I may consider a two story house.
What about you?

I'd want a library for used textbooks.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | October 28, 2016 1:04 AM |
I want to live in a stone cottage in a forest with a view of distant mountains.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | October 28, 2016 1:06 AM |
I have a thing about mid-60's gas stations. I love the cinderblocks, the tiles, etc. I would want to convert an old gas station and live there.

Whatever my house looks like I want it to be located away from everyone else.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | October 28, 2016 1:09 AM |
John, pale blue won't go well with your hubby ken beck's gorgeous hair. Also, you'll need large walk in coolers for your cadavers.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | October 28, 2016 1:35 AM |
I wanna own one of those cute little baroque houses in the Czech countryside. Not only do these houses look gorgeous but there's also plenty of ridiculously cheap beer and hot Czech boys nearby.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | October 28, 2016 1:55 AM |
One that comes with staff
by Anonymous | reply 7 | October 28, 2016 2:14 AM |
Tom Hardy hates blue. So there's that.

I like blue.

Rosecliff is a perfect little American chateau. If a bit feminine. It has brilliant rooms and spaces that look out over the sea. It's very airy. It would be wonderful to be young and party all night in those salons and sleep it off on lazy summer days.

I really like the English Manor style of houses. I'll never be able to afford a big one, but maybe a smaller one someday.
The house pictured is Leona Helmsley's former home in Greenwich, CT.
I would KILL for this house.

Something mid-century, or an apartment on RSD looking at NJ.

a three bedroom condo; a room for me, one for my stuff; one for guests or a study

Rose Tarlow's house, magically teleported to the Texas Hill Country. I'd have to have the entire county emptied out just for me, of course. There'd be a terrace facing my own personal valley where I could drink my coffee and watch my horses frolic.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 28, 2016 7:18 AM |
Craftsman house for me. Must include a boyfriend who is handy. And handsy.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 28, 2016 10:14 AM |
penthouse in the sky

One of those Hobbity-looking, custom-made cob houses with rounded corners inside that you often see in Europe. And without a mortgage.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | October 28, 2016 10:48 AM |
Ghost Ranch, minus all the development since about 1940.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | October 28, 2016 10:54 AM |
Someplace with a lot of distance between neighbours. A place in the woods with a long road leading to it would be ideal. My friend lives in such a place and hates it but I love it.

I love Frank Lloyd Wright's work, but who could ever experience one first hand? Here's a 'just right' Wright cottage in Wisconsin that's small, cozy and efficient...and also available for overnight rentals. Delightful.

A five bedroom bungalow with naked Chris Meloni clones in every bedroom.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | October 28, 2016 12:29 PM |
R10 you copied me!! That's MY dream home! Mostly because of the land. It looks so secluded, which is perfect because I just want to be left the fuck alone.

Handsy?
by Anonymous | reply 28 | October 28, 2016 1:18 PM |
Love that stone cottage, r25. Thanks for posting the link.

by Anonymous | reply 30 | October 28, 2016 3:16 PM |
R30, will you have beach friends?

I'd like something modern and small built of rammed earth with a green roof, preferably heated and cooled passively so the bills to run it are small.

I like houses. Do you like houses? I hope you have a nice house. I wish people were nice to me. If I had a house I could have parties and people would have to be nice to me. Are parties fun? I've never been to a party. The bare tree branches want to kill me.

Deep South plantation.

Something glassy and modern in a wooded area.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | October 28, 2016 9:10 PM |
I like those glass walled houses but I would have to have those electro-chromatic windows that darken electrically with the touch of a button.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | October 28, 2016 9:18 PM |
Surely if you live in a glass house in the woods you'd have a terrible problem with insects in the summer.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | October 28, 2016 9:23 PM |
Bugs would be all over your windows, trying to get to the interior lights.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | October 28, 2016 9:25 PM |
I do like the the wooded setting of the New Canaan houses in The Ice Storm.
As well as the wooded setting of the friend's house in Ferris Bueller.

Mid-century masterpiece the Farnsworth house... drolling....
by Anonymous | reply 57 | October 28, 2016 10:22 PM |
That looks like a mid-century outdoor studio apartment, r58. I love it, but why not another room or two?
by Anonymous | reply 59 | October 28, 2016 10:55 PM |
Thank you R39.
R5, I think light green looks best with red hair, so if Ken wants the house that colour, I will paint it so.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | October 29, 2016 1:42 AM |
I want one in the middle of the street.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | October 29, 2016 1:43 AM |
r60 I like that shade of green, too, John. I have lots of sheets and pillowcases in that color. I do not have red hair, however.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | October 29, 2016 1:57 AM |
I would change the third-floor windows though.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | October 29, 2016 2:14 AM |
These spazzy wooden plank houses are disgusting.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | October 29, 2016 2:15 AM |
Really, a thatched roof R66? Are you SURE?
by Anonymous | reply 67 | October 29, 2016 3:01 AM |
The Farnsworth house is badly sited and it floods. Plus it's creepy at night.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | October 29, 2016 3:02 AM |
People in glass houses....
by Anonymous | reply 69 | October 29, 2016 3:07 AM |

"Thatch" and "thatch"! What is "thatch"?
by Anonymous | reply 74 | October 29, 2016 3:16 AM |
It's better than those spazzy clapboard houses that look like garden sheds.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | October 29, 2016 3:17 AM |

Beachfront in Southern or Central California, semi-secluded, built of natural stone and wood.
Or Michael Corleone's Lake Tahoe house in "Godfather II"

You'll just have to grin and bear it.

As much as I would love to own and live in an English castle, imagine the heating bills. The grounds maintenance costs. The interior cleaning and repair costs.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$...
by Anonymous | reply 81 | October 29, 2016 1:19 PM |
Do you like to dream? What do you dream about? I dream of some of you sometimes. I dream that you are all my friends. I do not have any real friends. When I ask people if they will be my friend I ask them what they dream about they usually say they dream I'm dead and they will have a party. My mother screams at me that I took her dreams away when they ripped me out of her cursed womb. Will you email me your dreams? Maybe I can dream them too. Coconuts look like hairy brains.

This is supposed to be a 'dream' thread.
However nice your English castle, who'd choose that awful English weather?
by Anonymous | reply 83 | October 29, 2016 2:42 PM |
I don't think I would like to live in an abode that required a daily staff to keep it up and envy invoking.
No gardeners, maids, butlers, cooks, handymen, etc. and their requisite payroll.
Therefore Biltmore is off my wish list.
