Madonna is Not Taking This Ageing Thing Well
She's lashing out AGAIN on Facebook at people. My god, she's going to be 60 soon. What is she going to do THEN?! Madonna 25 years ago, the one people actually liked, would be mortified by what she's turned into. She'd be making fun of 58-year-old Madonna today.
"Still Acting my Age!!! Photo by Mert Alas.š. How do i know I'm still acting my Age? Because its MY age and its MY life and all of you Women Hating Bigots need to sit down and try to understand why you feel the need to limit me with your fear of what you aren't familiar with. You know what happens to Bigots? NOTHING! Nothing happens to people who. Think in a limited way. Facts.....But i forgive you. šš» Because its the month of Slicha. šš»" -Madonna
Too bad she relies on that cult and not a proper shrink to sort out her issues.

The trouble with Madonna is that she has no sense of humor about herself. That sets her apart from someone like Cher. Even Tina Turner could be sexy in her 40s and 50s and keep her dignity. Madonna just takes herself waaaay too seriously.

Her body is alright, but her only real talent was ripping off other people. Unfortunately, she ripped off everyone and everything and there's nothing left, so she's back to repeating herself. She only showed actual originality in social commentary, and that lasted for about a second back in the late 80s, early to mid 90s.
...and she was the first female pop star to purposely release and market a pornographic book and music video.
She's not a very bright woman when it all comes down to it. She made money the easy way. I guess she should get an award for not turning to drugs and alcohol like her peers to deal with her narcissism. She did however, turn to a cult.

Back in her heyday, she wasn't warm or charming or funny, but she was totally fearless - and that made her cool. It was her best quality and now it's gone, you can feel the desperate fear of age in every pixel of those photos.
With her money and her looks she could have aged into an incredibly elegant woman, and that would have been the fearless way to go - if she'd let herself age and still looked good, she might still be cool! But no, she can't live without projecting sexuality, and she doesn't know how to be a sexy grownup so she tries to be young and looks like a fool doing so.

Madonna does NOT "need" to be a clone of other old aging performers. She IS Madonna, after all.
Writing books, heading charities... she did all that shit in the Early 2000s - try to keep up.

No one said she had to "imitate" anyone else, dear. Pay attention. MDNA can have her own style and her own passion projects, of course. But instead of desperately trying to hang on to youth with her veiny, arthritic claws, which is humiliating, she should seek to emulate the attitude, philosophy and spirit of those who have successfully traversed the rickety bridge from youth to middle age to old age with grace and elegance. The lucky ones have even greater respect and admiration (as well as opportunities---see Mirren) in their golden years than they ever enjoyed in their youth.

I think Helen Mirren is great, but I wouldn't cite her as a beauty. I agree with the lack of maturity issue. Saying she should act/dress her age, follow the example set by Helen Mirren, mentor younger artists etc. is not gonna work. She doesn't have it in her. She sees HERSELF as a younger artist. She's acknowledging her immaturity and saying "I'm living my life the way I want to, in a way that feels right for me. This is how I'm wired." She has never given two fucks about what anyone's thought about her and she can afford to live any way she chooses.
And yes she's made some atrocious/embarrassing decisions that look like a meltdown, like a subtler version of Britney Spears shaving her hair off and attacking the paparazzi with an umbrella. She's totally over projecting a certain image for the public and is just letting her freak flag fly. If social media was around when she was up-and-coming we would seen this side of her all along.

Helen Mirren was certainly not considered a beauty in her younger years. I will never forget the late Joan Rivers remarking that she was needed to do something about the "warts" on her face during the red carpet coverage for the Golden Globes back in the early/mid 90s.
She was out and out plain in The Mosquito Coast(in which she played Harrison Ford's wife) an nothing special in White Nights with Baryshnikov in '85. Therefore the comparison with Madge is not that far fetched. Neither was a natural born beauty.
Helen Mirren has become the go to example of how great women in their 50s-60s can look if they maintain a great figure and keep it chic and elegant. I just don't think Madonna even understands that concept. Has she ever looked "elegant?" The right stylist could get her close though, and she really needs to give it a shot. Otherwise she IS going to be what Mae West was in the 70s. A jokey old former bombshell.

Madonna's audience simply outgrew her. The teenage girls from the mid '80s are now 50 and the gay club boys of the early 2000s are around 35. For the most part, her fan base grew up and moved on to other things. Her would-be fan base of the next generation didn't materialize because there were other singers doing the same thing who weren't in their Mom's CD collection. It's happened with every musician - if they don't mature with their fan base, eventually they become nothing more than a nostalgia act because the new audience doesn't care. Plenty of 40- and -50-year-olds will see Madonna in concert because she may have been fun and reminds them if their youth but I doubt they have much interest in whatever she's doing next.

She doesn't need to create new music. She could still make a lot of money from just touring. A lot of people who don't even like her music will go to her concerts because a Madonna show is considered an "event."
Other women a little older are still successfully touring regularly: Stevie Nicks (going out in a few months with the Pretenders), Heart, Cher (unless her last tour really was a farewell tour).

Again, why does Madonna "need" to go glam? She did that in the Early 200os with her silly books and English accent. She did that in 1996-1997 with "Evita" promotion. She's DONE it. She doesn't "need" to follow Helen Mirren's Script For Old Ladies.
Madonna has DONE glamorous photo shoots and sleek dresses and high class elegance several times throughout her career. She doesn't "need" to be a Helen Mirren Clone.
Stevie Nicks, Cher, Chrissie Hynde... All still following their own paths with their own unique styles. I guess they all need to put on designer gowns and sing show tunes in order to successfully transform into Proper Old Ladies a la La Mirren.

FFS, R117. Give it up. You admitted it yourself. You mention several people who are NOT anything like Helen Mirren and yet they STILL have their own style and are writing their own script in an sensible, mature way to remain relevant, admired and respected into their 70's. None of these women are acting like teenage ghetto thugs.

Yes, R121, either would be fabulous. Not THAT would be a way for her to show that she doesn't take herself too seriously, while affording her an opportunity to take on a juicy role. She's never been one to be able to poke fun at herself though. Too bad. It could work so well in her favor.

MANdonna has done a stadium tour ONCE in her career. That was the Sticky and Sweet tour. Before that tour, like Janet, she would play arenas in the US, and some stadiums outside the states. The MDNA tour played stadiums abroad, but mostly arenas in the states. The Rebel Heart tour was ARENAS only.
Most people had written Queen Janet off, and said she would never play arenas again, and she made that happen with the Unbreakable tour, even playing a Stadium sized venue in Japan (The Saitama Super Arena... look it up) on THIS tour.

Madge makes me sad because I know there really is no hope once you hit 50, if you are really fair skinned as she is. And I am too. With how well she's taken care of herself (no booz or drugs. clean diet) and all the money in the world for the best surgeons, she should look great, but she still looks like crap.

Go to YouTube and watch some of your favorite Madonna music videos from the 80s and 90s. It will provide irrefutable evidence she's become a fucking pathetic joke.
I watched Like a Virgin, Deeper and Deeper, Open Your Heart to Me, Material Girl, Secret, Frozen and others. She really had "it" and now she's tragically trying to keep up with girls 3 times younger than her.

[quote] This is why Iām against all forms of invasive āanti-ageingā procedures. Too many women (and men) regardless of age, do not know when to stop. I keep saying this, they donāt look younger, they just look as if theyāve had work done.
I can see HOW it happens though. That first shot of Botox melts away the years and you look fresher, a better version of yourself ā isnāt that what we all want?
But then you begin to find fault with other parts of your face. Along with your next needle (needles!) of Botox, you might want to tackle that thin upper lip, or those drooping cheeks ā And so the cycle begins.
Know when to stop before you become a caricature.

The problem is these fillers take so long to dissolve completely, there can be days when it doesn't look like there's anything there, then it can swell again. No question things can get messy under the surface with repeated injections.... If there was rehab center for chronic filler addiction (Madonna, Meg Ryan, Nicole Kidman) they would literally need to kept away from injectables for five years or more so all the chemicals can dissolve away.

r139 it's so funny you mentioned that because a friend and I were just talking about how Madonna and Tom Cruise both prove that after 50 it's just over, no matter what you do. Here are two people who have the money for the best cosmetic surgeons and dermatologists in the world, they never got into drugs or drinking, and they've always been healthy eaters and exercise fiends. And guess what? They STILL look old and busted. You might as well just have those drinks and eat those cheeseburgers because there's nothing that can be done after a certain age.

So many people get normal, conservative, facelifts and look good. My friend's grandmother did this around 65 and looked incredible. It wasn't just anti-aging, but she looked happier and healthier. Tens of thousands of facelifts are done every year, often with some *small* amount of fat grafting for lost volume (not the 10 tons of fat she has had injected).
If Madonna would've just stayed on the conservative path (which stars seem unable to do) then she would've looked better - plain and simple. It appears she is either dictating her delusional needs to a surgeon who won't say no - or she is going to one of the over-the-top surgeons. Kenny Rogers and Burt Reynolds and Meg Ryan, and Melanie Griffith have all given facial surgery a very visible bad name.
Normal everyday patients, however, are another story. I realize the smiling is different in the two pics, but you can still tell the change is normal and natural. I picked this somewhat randomly - the point being there's nothing wrong with facial rejuvenation for the average person. She lost it a long time ago. Even her brother quipped "maybe they shouldn't have pulled it all so tight" in an interview. He's right.

One more for fun... this is a good surgeon doing proper facial rejuvenation work.

Some big stars can be unbelievably rude, vain and idiotic to cosmetic surgery staff, like they're God's gift therefore don't need to put their ego's aside long enough for the surgeon's to see them as anything but big bags of money (cough*Kartrashians)
by Anonymous | reply 154 | September 26, 2016 6:55 PM

Those two do look good. Maybe it all goes bad when you try to look 25 instead of just a healthier, fresher 50. I also think Madge's low fat diet, touted to be "healthy" for decades, is actually not healthy at all. We need fat---lots of it. What we can not metabolize is sugar and carbs.

The sister actually looks better. She's pretty wash and wear, but with a blowout and a little makeup and more flattering glasses she could look downright elegant. Sadly they look a lot alike, but Madonna has had so much work done she's barely recognizable now. It reminds me of a remark Margit Kidder once made along the lines of the problem with being a woman in the business isn't all the dumb blondes setting the tone but all the smart women who should know better who still get sucked into that mindset. Probably the best thing Melanie has going for her is she hasn't spent the last 30 years in a millieu where aging is akin to death.

Never got into drugs? Not only did Madonna used to smoke (a lot), but she also partook in various drugs in her earlier days. She also drinks, and has gone out on stage recently half-lit. Don't let that yoga-new age shit fool you.

She's worried she'll be sacrificed next by the cabal responsible for her fame, hence the sudden blitzkrieg on social media. She wants to make it past the age of 58 (5+8=13), a number which has esoteric meaning in their and her belief system . It's insurance; as long as she's having her public hissy fit, they won't try to fuck (with) her (see Amanda Bynes, Bill Cosby & Brad Pitt). The average citizen cannot fathom how scary the real world is.

Yes, she does look good there in 2007. She's reflecting the image we have all suggested would be best for her: age appropriate, elegant, mature but still beautiful.....the envy of every other woman HER OWN AGE.
The most important thing for older stars to remember is to never compete with younger women. That's a game you can't win, so don't even play. Take yourself out of that race. Stop playing checkers and learn how to play chess by 1.) out classing everyone else and 2.) making sure you look better than 99% of women your own age.
You're welcome!

r168 that's how they should do it. Look at past divas like Katharine Hepburn and Marlene Dietrich. They had an age-appropriate look and it worked wonders for them. In fact, when we think of Hepburn our popular image of her is when she was an older woman, not when she was young.

This performance is what Madonna tried to do with the Madame X tour but failed.
