Blood in urine
About 2 years ago I was peeing blood (a pinkish color) for several months.
I went to the doctor. No infection, no stones. They made me drink a chalky milk type drink and did an X-ray and found no stones or anything. Eventually I just stopped peeing blood.
Last night it came back. I feel like I constantly have to pee but not much comes out. It doesn't burn as much as it feels tingly after I finish.
Any ideas what is wrong?

It sounds like a urinary tract infection.

Urinary tract infection.
Cranberry juice (with little or no apple juice added, and as low in added sugars as you can get) will help with symptoms. Some say it cures it but I don't know how true that is -- will probably keep it from becoming a kidney infection, unless it already is. Cranberry pills are available if you can't drink the juice.
Drink tons of water.

Do you have other health problems? The first time, that wasn't UTI? No pain?

I have some cranberry pills and just took 2. I just really feel like I need to pee right now yet I don't. It is a weird feeling. My lower back feels "tight." Like I need to stretch.
The first time this happened, 2 years ago, no pain. Not even the urgency to go like now. It just lasted for several months. I stopped short of them running a camera up my pee hole.

Yeah, get a nap in, set the alarm and call the doctor the second their office opens. If he or a nurse practitioner can't see you today then make a trip to the ER. (Or an urgent care clinic if you have any good ones around; ours won't do anything, not even set broken bones or give antibiotics.)

Yes, if it's a UTI, it will get worse. You need antibiotics.
Cranberry juice won't kill an infection. It has properties that may prevent bacteria from growing if consumed regularly.

Really dumb question, but, you haven't been eating a lot of beets have you? I know this makes me sound like a total moron, but last year I started eating a ton of beets - had them in nearly every salad I made for lunch, often had a few slices with dinner etc. Started peeing red, couldn't get in to see my doctor for a week and assumed I was dying, until I had a two day space without beets and realized - fucking idiot - it was the beets turning my pee red, not blood.
I'm sure it's not that, because no one could possibly be as stupid as I was. But, report back after your dr. visit, OP!

Try cranberry juice unsweetened and undiluted that they sell at health foods stores. Drink a cup in the morning and again at night. Do this at least for three days. If it's an infection this will help. Do not drink the cranberry juice cocktail type, it's watered down and sweetened. Also don't drink alcohol or carbonated drinks until your symptoms go away. If this doesnt help see a doctor or urologist.

Your symptoms sure sound almost exactly like when I had kidney stones, but even then my pee didn't turn pinkish but doctors tested my urine and said I had blood in my urine. The feeling of needing to pee and nothing comes out, the back pain, just horrible pain all over.
Thank God for the morphine drip they gave me for the pain, this was years and years ago when they still hospitalized you for kidney stones, they gave me a saline IV on full drip. Made me drink tons of water and strain my urine. I have never peed so much in my life. I wasn't allowed any solid foods only clear liquids (meaning no milky fluids). Tea, apple juice, cranberry juice, jello and tons of water. A nurse would come in every hour and make me drink as much water as I could take. I was peeing every half hour. I was in the hospital for 5 days and they never found a kidney stone, but thankfully 40 years later I have never had another episode.

Cipro is a broad spectrum antibiotic commonly prescribed for UTIs. The doctor can quickly assess for presence of WBCs in urine which indicates bacterial infection. What he is waiting for are the culture results - based on the specific bacteria present in the culture, you may need to switch antibiotics.

You've got the classic signs of a UTI. Hopefully your dr will ask for tests for kidney function as well. Make sure you take the full course of antibiotics and if the infection comes back, you will need much stronger ones. In your place, I would go to a urologist. Hope you feel better and get it sorted out.

Also - regarding prostate issues - the PSA is only 35% accurate; for an accurate result, you need a prostate ultrasound.

Hmm, this is odd. I know that felling wanting to go but cant, its from a kidney stone. They can be smaller then a grain of sand so you may never even see it. In that case, start drinking a lot more water. Your normal pee should be very light yellow almost clear if you are getting enough water. And you need to keep that up on a regular basis. The smell and color I have had before too. In that case it was a UTI. It cleared up on its own with a lot of cranberry. I drank a small cup throughout the day for about a week. Went through about 2 large 1/2 gallons. I have also has the scope up my piss slit into my bladder. Doctor was looking for cancer, found nothing. He told me the tube that goes from the kidneys to the bladder is like the thickness of a hair. So even something like a grain of sand can scrape the sides going down and cause bleeding. The blood could also be from some kind of minor tear. If you do really strenuous exercises like sit ups with weights or something similar could cause this. I agree with the others, you really need to see a doctor and figure this one out. Dont let them just write it off without an answer.
Hate to be graphic but one time after not jerking off for two weeks (working a lot) my cum load was brown. I freaked out called the doctor. He just kind of chucked and said I need to clean my pipes on a regular basis. It was blood coming from some minor tear. He said it was very common. Sure enough, I fallowed DR orders jerk off every day and I am cured!
My guess is you are not drinking enough fluids, but I am not a doctor. In theory, you should be drinking about a 2 liter soda bottle amount of water or fluid per day. If you are taking meds, this is even more important. Lots of medications from HIV to everything else under the sun will dehydrate you. Thats actually how I got my first kidney stone forcing me to the ER. Side effect of medication I was on.

Also, keep taking the Cipro until you see the doctor again. Some tests are not that accurate. Cloudy pee also says UTI. Especially if it really smells bad. Good news is, from your MRI sounds like you dont have a stone or other major internal problem like cancer.

Finally saw the urologist, or rather his nurse practitioner today. Had an ultrasound of my bladder (no blockages) and an x-ray (no visible stones).
Next up is an injection of dye into my pelvis on the 19th. She seems to think I may have tiny, non-visible stones since my hypertension medication has a side effect that causes...kidney stones. We'll see. It would also explain why I had this same situation two+ years ago and it went away...I had passed the stone but never felt it.
She pretty much ruled out cancer and said my kidneys were functioning perfectly so we'll just have to see what the next step says. I did give another urine and blood sample today so that will officially rule out cancer.
I told her I was scared of the cystoscopy and running a tube up my peehole, but she says it is simple and only lasts 90 seconds to 4 minutes and I'm numbed with lidocaine. And I may not even have to have it.

Hey op if you need a cystoscopy that numbing stuff doesn't really help when the camera enters your bladder, maybe it does when they first insert it into the dick, but in my experience its pretty horrible. It is official...I'm getting a camera up my peehole on August 30th.
I had a CT Scan and met with the urologist today and he said my kidneys and everything above my bl;adder are functioning perfectly. No hidden stones.
Now he thinks I might have a tear in my bladder that he can cauterize when he runs the camera up there. I'll be completely knocked out and he said it should last about 15 minutes.

OP, if you're going to have that procedure with some form of anesthesia please have it done at a hospital, not a doctor's office. If this doctor won't do that find one who will or go to a doctor who works out of a hospital. Make sure a real anesthesiologist is there, not just any doctor or nurse. Remember what happened to Joan Rivers.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | August 20, 2016 1:00 AM

R82 is one paranoid bitch. Its not the same as Joan Rivers, he was on general Anastasia, they put her out completely. They dont do that for a simple procedure like this. How do I know? Because I have had both a colonoscopy and cystoscopy done in the last couple of years. The urologist I went to was in his office with medical rooms not a hospital. The first visit was a test the get samples, I had to come back for the actual procedure. It was no big deal. They asked if I wanted to be something to relax me and I said yes. Nuse came in, put in an IV and 2 minutes later the next thing I remember is the doctor saying were done, didn't find anything.
OP dont freak out, its a common thing to have blood in your pee for a whole host of reasons. They never figured out what caused mine and it went away on its own. Most likely it was a very small kidney stone the size of a grain of sand. Even something that small can cause bleeding because the tube that connects your kidney to your bladder is shockingly thin, about the width of a hair. Its like trying to shove a jagged rock through a hose. People without knowledge of kidney stones think its all about the penis which it is not. At that point its an easy exit.

Burning when you pee is totally normal after something has been shoved up your shaft. Its not comfortable but its normal. Its from scraping the very delicate lining of your urethra. If he lubed it up enough and totally sterile then you should not have that problem. Guys that play with sounds in their dick are very familiar with this issue after play. Should go away in a day or two.

I just had the cystoscopy done by the urologist. He said my bladder is fine. No growths or abnormalities. He did cauterize a tear near my prostate and said my blood work is all good. No abnormalities on my cell counts, etc... He needs to do a second cysto to go further in my kidneys and cauterize that popped or leaking vein in my ureter.
