Which actors have the most beautiful voices?

The Charles Boyer thread started me thinking: a huge part of his appeal was his voice.

What other actors would you say are attractive chiefly due to their voices?

In classic films, I'd say Robert Preston and Oraon Wells (pre weight gain).

by Anonymousreply 63September 20, 2019 6:04 PM

Orson Wells - sorry, for my clumsy typing .

by Anonymousreply 1June 12, 2016 3:58 AM

Richard Burton

by Anonymousreply 2June 12, 2016 4:04 AM

Alan Rickman. His voice once described as a 'silky tiger's purr'. I think of it as brandy poured over dark chocolate.

by Anonymousreply 3June 12, 2016 4:05 AM

Greer Garson.

by Anonymousreply 4June 12, 2016 4:06 AM

Past, Ronald Coleman.

Now, I hate to say it, but Henry Cavill.

Stellan Skarsgaard. Unbelievably sexy. I try to find an example later.

Another vote for Boyer. Just saw Gaslight. The way he trilled those rrrrrrrs.

by Anonymousreply 16June 12, 2016 7:53 PM

I love Claude Rains' voice.

Alan Rickman, James Earl Jones (my mother said he sounded like god), Morgan Freeman.

Judy Halliday's voice makes me feel warm and giddy... And when added to those spritely dark eyes and dimples, she's adorable!

The actor who played Roose Bolton on Games of Thrones.

by Anonymousreply 22August 30, 2016 5:07 AM

Jean Arthur, definitely. She had dreamy good looks in the right light, too...

Sean Connery. His deep voiced Scottish brogue may have turned me as a kid watching him in James Bond movies.

June Allyson!

I can't get past the bangs R25.

by Anonymousreply 26August 30, 2016 5:35 AM

Rock Hudson sounded great (though I've read that this was surgically-obtained, as his natural voice had been considered "too high").

by Anonymousreply 27August 30, 2016 5:40 AM

True, [R26]... But here's a good shot:

Somewhat off the mark but I find Alex Skarsgard’s slow enunciation and deep voice very sexy.

Anthony Hopkins, Colin Farrell (when he's not doing accents), Allen Leech, Tab Hunter, Gerard Depardieu (when he's not playing white trash), Bruno Ganz & mMx von Sydow.

by Anonymousreply 43September 18, 2019 3:46 PM

Beth Broderick. It's like a musical instrument.

by Anonymousreply 44September 18, 2019 3:47 PM

Robert Donat (The Thirty-Nine Steps, Goodbye, Mr. Chips). His voice had a beautiful baritone timbre, mellifluous when the text and character demanded it, but never overdone.

by Anonymousreply 45September 18, 2019 3:49 PM

Olivier!

Russell Crowe

by Anonymousreply 46September 18, 2019 3:51 PM

Here's another vote for Jeremy Irons.

As himself, he comes across as an awful person. As Charles Ryder, though, his narration was possibly the best part of "Brideshead Revisited."

by Anonymousreply 47September 18, 2019 4:02 PM

I love Sean Bean's voice over narrations. Gorgeous.

by Anonymousreply 48September 18, 2019 4:10 PM

Peter Coyote: I love his narration of Ken Burns' films. Just evocative of the past.

by Anonymousreply 49September 18, 2019 4:14 PM

r43, I love Florence Pugh's voice -- like Suzanne Pleshette with an English accent.

Catherine Deneuve

At times, I've even listened to French audio interviews even though I miss half of what she's saying. However, she does speak very fast, even for native speakers. But her voice certainly adds to her sex appeal.

Also, Patrick Stewart and Jeremy Irons.

Oddly enough, can't think of any American actors whose voice gives me a hard-on. No, not even James Earl Jones.

Alan Rickman had a distinct voice IMO, but beautiful? Subjective. As are most of the responses, I guess.

by Anonymousreply 54September 18, 2019 6:29 PM

Juliet Stevenson--she starred with Alan Rickman in Truly, Madly, Deeply and played featured roles in a number of Austen adaptations. But I listen to her narrating audiobooks, and she is an amazingly gifted audiobook narrator and her voice is pure honey classical English, low and mellifluous. Too bad she didn't have a better movie career but if you want to be truly soothed by a human voice, listen to one of her narrations. Just finished her doing "A Woman of No Importance," a fascinating bio of a real spy, Virginia Hall, who, although American, was the chief organizer of the British spy network (precursor of MI6) in France during the war. Great voice, amazing story. Book is a bit too long maybe.

by Anonymousreply 55September 18, 2019 7:13 PM

I love Kate Blanchett's growl. Also Glenda Jackson's neurotic and unforgettable tones. Julie Andrews - both in speech and in song.

Among the men, I prefer the British school - John Gielgud is a bit too thrilly for me but Stephen Fry sounds great. I love Derek Bogarde's higher, posh voice and Alan Bates is incredibly exciting to listen to, I can't explain why.

But the most beautiful of them all has to be Laurence Olivier. Not because of the voice itself but because of the intelligent, mellifluous cadence he lends to it with the virtuosity of a great musician.

Joan Fontaine, Isabelle Adjani, Anjelica Huston, and Faye Dunaway all have (had in Joan Fontaine’s case) very attractive speaking voices.
