I spent an hour just in the meat department at Aldi's. Their sumptuous leg and thigh poultry packs are to die for!

They're so delectable my mouth is still watering. Have a delicious day.

If only you would die.

You and Aldi's both.

by Anonymousreply 1June 2, 2016 7:53 PM

Settle down now chicken dipper at r1.

by Anonymousreply 2June 2, 2016 7:56 PM

Yum!

by Anonymousreply 3June 2, 2016 8:10 PM

Ehhhh. Hate the chicken recipe with "Italian seasoning." Dried basil has no reason to live.

by Anonymousreply 6June 2, 2016 8:29 PM

Shop there every once in awhile. They"re Box Truffle Mac & Cheese is good

by Anonymousreply 7June 2, 2016 8:39 PM

Suuuuuuuumptuous!

by Anonymousreply 8June 2, 2016 8:49 PM

What is with the Aldi troll on this board? We never go long without some poster starting a random ass thread trying their hardest to promote Aldis.

by Anonymousreply 9June 2, 2016 8:55 PM

It must be a newly graduated frau who's interning at a PR company, and thinks this is how gay men talk.

Believe it.

by Anonymousreply 10June 2, 2016 9:00 PM

Spending an hour in the meat department anywhere says so many things about you OP... All of them sad. Poor thing.

by Anonymousreply 11June 2, 2016 9:14 PM

I hate dark meat ... except when it comes to men.

by Anonymousreply 12June 2, 2016 9:15 PM

How about the sumptuous legs and thighs of the BUTCHER in Aldi's??

by Anonymousreply 13June 2, 2016 9:17 PM

Aren't Aldi stores all tiny, little shopfronts in strip malls? I've only been in one years ago and it was very small, not to mention dirty. I can't imagine how anyone could spend an hour in any part of the store as it's so small. I've driven by others and they all seem to be the size of convenience stores. Do you also spend an hour at the pre-prepared sandwich cooler at the 7-11, OP?

by Anonymousreply 14June 2, 2016 9:21 PM

The Aldi's near me is in the ground floor of a building that used to be a car showroom. The parking garage has the weird lights and right-of-way lanes from that incarnation. Not a "tiny little shopfront in a strip mall." I wish they had more cashiers. There's usually only one.

by Anonymousreply 15June 2, 2016 9:40 PM

I've shopped the one in La Quinta now and then. It just seems like the food products are "seconds" or repackaged production over runs. It is next to Trader Joes so if that store is packed and I just need milk or small kine food, Aldis is usually empty. Not a bad experience just don't see the quality like Costco or Ralph's.

by Anonymousreply 16June 2, 2016 9:47 PM

The Aldis near me is a fucking dump. I went in walked around a few minutes, and left. I didn't even take my quarter back. It looked like a charity food pantry.

by Anonymousreply 17June 2, 2016 9:48 PM

Mine is really nice but it's new.

by Anonymousreply 18June 2, 2016 10:05 PM

Aldi's IS Trader Joe's, no?

by Anonymousreply 19June 2, 2016 10:27 PM

R19 No.

by Anonymousreply 20June 2, 2016 10:37 PM

[quote]How about the sumptuous legs and thighs of the BUTCHER in Aldi's??

There ARE no butchers at Aldi's (unless they're shopping there, of course.)

by Anonymousreply 21June 2, 2016 10:38 PM

OP - I don't know why you are going to so much work with your recipe. Here is a much tastier and simpler recipe.

by Anonymousreply 26June 3, 2016 12:34 AM

r25, please remove your "van" from DL parking lot. Thanks.

by Anonymousreply 30June 3, 2016 8:45 PM

I love my store! It's fab!

by Anonymousreply 31June 4, 2016 6:54 PM

Who cares so much about fucking, dingy, dirty, cramped, cheap Aldi to keep bumping this thread and starting others? This isn't some MommyBlog for people living in manufactured housing. Do we really have that many posters here who can only afford cut-rate foods and who find visiting the grocery-store equivalent of a dollar store so thoroughly exciting?

It's all very reminiscent of the influx of bullshit we had from that insipid Andy Towle site not too long ago. If you want to advertise, then advertise, damnit! Don't clutter up the place with this cheap nonsense.

by Anonymousreply 32June 4, 2016 7:01 PM

You sound stressed, r32.

Have a cookie it will make your feel better, dear.

by Anonymousreply 33June 5, 2016 2:44 AM

LOL!

by Anonymousreply 34June 5, 2016 7:31 PM

The point is, it's pretty hard to screw up chicken.

by Anonymousreply 35June 5, 2016 7:42 PM

I can't stand those dirty, ghetto-looking stores with all those off-brand products. Ick.

by Anonymousreply 36June 5, 2016 8:32 PM

sounds delish!

by Anonymousreply 37October 18, 2016 12:07 AM

Even though I've never spent an hour in their meat department, Aldi is great. If you have a ghetto looking Aldi nearby, it's probably because you don't live in a good neighborhood to begin with.

It's ridiculous how the same p pole who rave about Trader Joe's, talk shit about Aldi. Same stuff, guys. The reason their prices are lower has nothing to do with quality.

by Anonymousreply 38October 18, 2016 12:16 AM

what r38 said.

by Anonymousreply 39October 18, 2016 4:45 AM

by Anonymousreply 40November 22, 2016 9:42 PM

[quote]who rave about Trader Joe's, talk shit about Aldi. Same stuff, guys.

No, the sell different products. I wish I could find everything that Trader Joe's sells at Aldis, but you most certainly cannot.

by Anonymousreply 41November 22, 2016 9:46 PM

Bet you saved a bundle shopping at Aldi's so maybe you'll have enough mad money to buy yourself a Christmas gift!

by Anonymousreply 42November 22, 2016 9:48 PM

Nothing wrong with Aldi store. The one near me is a stand-alone building, clean, not overly large, but it offers items I've only found in Europe, like cornichons and certain chocolate desserts. I'd compare Aldi's to T. Leclerc in France, only a bit smaller. Prices are about half what I pay at the local chains.

by Anonymousreply 43November 22, 2016 9:51 PM

Aldi sucks. Cheap food

by Anonymousreply 44November 22, 2016 9:55 PM

I feel soiled just reading this thread!

by Anonymousreply 45November 22, 2016 9:58 PM

[quote]I spent an hour just in the meat department at Aldi's.

Their meat "department" is barely six feet long. What did you do for an entire hour?

by Anonymousreply 46November 22, 2016 10:10 PM

My Aldi's meat dept is about 50ft, r56.

by Anonymousreply 47November 22, 2016 10:17 PM

R47 Seriously? The meat department in most full-sized supermarkets isn't even that big.

by Anonymousreply 48November 22, 2016 10:25 PM

[quote]Seriously?

Of course not.

by Anonymousreply 49November 22, 2016 10:26 PM

I would NEVER buy meat at Aldi.

by Anonymousreply 50November 22, 2016 10:45 PM

[Quote] Seriously? The meat department in most full-sized supermarkets isn't even that big.

okay, r47 maybe it's forty to fifty.

My Ralphs store meat dept is at at least 50 ft. Not usually in LA.

by Anonymousreply 59November 1, 2017 5:26 AM

One of our Aldi's store was recently remodeled by adding an addition.!We have three stores in my area, and they are growing by leaps and bounds, just keep getting better and better. I waiting for the Thanksgiving and Christmas gourmet and specialty items to start arriving. I love the large selection of gourmet cheeses and specialty dips.

And OP is right, they have a large deletion of fresh meats at the best prices anywhere. I already have my Thanksgiving dinner items stashed away, and my spiral glazed ham for Christmas.

If you haven't ever shopped there, or haven't been there for a while, do stop in. You will be amazed . . . . . . . .

by Anonymousreply 60November 1, 2017 5:36 AM

They just opened one near me, but it is tiny.

They did have low prices on frozen ducks.

by Anonymousreply 61November 1, 2017 5:40 AM

English Stilton Cheddar with cranberries, Kerrygold Swiss, and Havarti Dill cheese are my favorite cheeses. I also like all four flavors of their hummus. I drink the mild German roast coffee every morning. And I'm hooked on the Mosier-Roth dark chocolate bars with chili, and dark chocolate bars with mint. Garlic and cheese flatbread is amazing!

by Anonymousreply 62November 1, 2017 6:01 AM

Are they as sumptuous as a Mother's Day feast at Whataburger?

by Anonymousreply 63November 1, 2017 6:33 AM

Ali's doesn't need to be promoted on sleazy DL. The last thing I would like to run into while shopping is a pack of swishy queens. Yes I'm an old homo, but the entire gay part of my adult life was also the biggest waste of my life.

by Anonymousreply 64November 1, 2017 6:56 AM

I spent several hours just in the Meat Rack on Fire Island!

love my aldi. fab store.

by Anonymousreply 86October 24, 2020 2:41 AM

I never buy meat or fish at Aldi. Never buy it at Trader Joes either. There are all kinds of things that may be cheaper at Aldi's. But never buy meat ther Or fish. Ever. I only buy fish at Whole Foods and then only fresh wild caught from the North Atlantic. And Trader Joes has some great things. Their Brand Peanut butter is wonderful. I love their frozen spanakopita and the Indian tikka masala and vegetarian Samosas. Certain items of produce are fine at TJ's too. And their bread and muffins. Know what to buy and where to get it is important.

by Anonymousreply 87October 24, 2020 3:05 AM

Large German milk chocolate bar with almonds is awesome!

by Anonymousreply 89October 24, 2020 3:16 AM

This is why I rarely eat meat or chicken. Not for the I’m so superior vegan crap.

Just that it grosses me out. I can stomach white turkey breast in a salad or sandwich.

But legs and thighs ???? So chicken like full of fat and awful skin etc.

My daughter once commented that her chicken tasted like a bird, and it was never the same. And she had never eaten a bird

by Anonymousreply 90October 24, 2020 3:20 AM

I tried one, ithe store was small and had a bunch of off-brands. The layout was confusing and 25 cent cart thing was a hassle. Never again.

by Anonymousreply 91October 24, 2020 3:23 AM

Is the Aldi's troll the same as the Trader Joe's troll?

by Anonymousreply 92October 24, 2020 3:42 AM

Aldi meat here in Los Angeles is quite expensive, It's grass fed and antibiotic free. The selection is not very broad. Fish is vacuum sealed, two kinds of fish. and some vacuum sealed shrimp. There frozen food selection is exceedingly skimpy. Their brand of cereals is splendid. Any of there house brand items are superior too. Their house brand can goods make the trip worth while. Their house brand version of Kraft Mac & Cheese is better than Kraft's. Milk and eggs are a true bargain. Most items in the deli case are mostly superior quality. Their produce is sketchy at best, but the basics, potatoes, onions, squash are fairly high quality and pretty inexpensive. Their baked good.s are so so. Their chips are very much a bargain, and high quality

by Anonymousreply 93October 24, 2020 4:12 AM
