Oh really, R28. Actually, when I was kid and regularly watched gymnastics on tv, he was one of my favorites. He might not have been as consistent or artistic as some of his contemporaries, but he had explosive power which resulted in incredible amplitude, especially on floor ex and vault. He also had a fantastic smile, and looked like he was really enjoying himself. I never had a chance to meet him, but I got really lucky when one of my other favorites became a coach at my gym! Years before, I had seen on tv Yuejiu Li (back then he was called Li Yuejiu by the sportscasters). He was another gymnast who was very high-flying and exciting. During some competition, probably a world championships, he did a high bar release move, was too close to the bar, and smashed his mouth on the bar, but incredibly he didn't fall off, and finished his routine. It made a big impression on me. A few years later he became a coach at my gym in Nevada. When he was being introduced to us, I was the only kid who recognized him and dorkily called out his name before our head coach could say it. He was surprised I recognized him. He was a lot of fun as a coach, very sweet and did a lot of tumbling and goofing around. When I asked him about the mouth-smashing bar routine, he laughed and said it really hurt.
