Religion or mental illness?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | February 17, 2016 2:36 AM |
MJ wasn't ruined by religion, he was ruined by an abusive money grubbing father, a weak mother, mental illness, and his own paedophilia.

Pretty sure the Osmomds were a Mormon family before they became a famous family. I don't think religion ruined them. Marie just happens to have some mental health issues.

Y'all just posting people that you find annoying because you feel their art/music/otherwise work was influenced by religious views and you don't like it.
"Ruined by religion" means predatory destruction. I'd say River Phoenix's parents dragging their kids into the "Children of God" cult did real damage.

One could say that people like Mel Gibson, Mel Jackson, et al. were ruined by mental health issues rather than by religion, but some of us think that anyone who's aggressively religious has mental health issues to some degree.
I have another one for the list, though he's a minor entry: Jim Caviezel.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | April 14, 2016 1:35 AM |
The Pope. He had that whole "barely legal" thing wrapped up. What happened?

The KKK were religious, i guess they are all in Heaven too right?
by Anonymous | reply 56 | April 14, 2016 1:47 AM |
[quote]What was "ruined" about Jim Caviezel?
After his first big success in THE THIN RED LINE, he became very vocal about how religious he was, what kinds of roles he would and wouldn't play, how he wouldn't do any kind of heavy love/sex scene because of his religion, etc. "Ruined" is too strong a word, but I think all of that had a negative impact on his career, given that he was gorgeous and a decent actor.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | April 14, 2016 2:07 AM |
Agnes Moorehead? Really? Details, please.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | April 14, 2016 2:12 AM |
Yes how bizarre that someone would want to live their life in a moral way and be at grace with the God of their choice. Jim Caveizal has had a perfectly fine career he is not an amazing actor with incredible charisma. I think he has done pretty well for himself. Practicing Catholic and all. He also happens to be a nice guy . Married forever and adopted his children.

by Anonymous | reply 61 | April 14, 2016 3:26 AM |
God and religion are 2 separate things. What you do in your own time is your business but i don't like it when so many religious fanatics use their Bible to spread hatred and bigotry towards people who are different than they are, especially when a lot of them are hypocrites and are living more dirty than the people that they are condemning. GOD IS LOVE.

Whitney Houston--a lesbian raised by a fanatically religious mother who pressured her to give up the love of her life, which drove her into a self-destructive spiral filled with drug addiction and an abusive husband. All in the name of money and God's supposed will.
Didn't Cissy say she would rather have Whitney dead than come out as gay? That's how deeply gone this woman was. So consumed and brainwashed by religion she'd give up her own flesh and blood daughter (with a voice that sounded like it was a gift from God), to appease some fairytale made up by people thousands of years ago.
Unfortunately, poor Whitney just wasn't that bright and ended up internalizing all that poison. And it destroyed her, literally--and in the end probably destroyed her daughter too.
What tragic irony that Whitney and her daughter are dead, but that evil woman, Cissy, continues to live, feeding off all that money her bled from her own daughter. I honestly don't know how she can sleep at night.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | April 15, 2016 8:10 AM |
Religion sure ruined that fella named Jesus.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | April 15, 2016 6:25 PM |
Talk about irony...Oprah (a closeted lesbian herself) asking Cissy about her closeted lesbian daughter.
What a fucked up world we live in. We're all taught to hate ourselves in one way or another.
